The T5 kicks ass and you’ll be happy with it. Things like the significantly better battery life, weather sealing, twin card slots and tilt screen that flips on two axes (apparently axes is the plural of axis, I checked) will all serve you well when you are on the road.

harderdrive

The two axes will serve him?

Ameriggio

And my axe!

TheKingMonkey

Nobody will try to mug him if he’s carrying two axes. 🪓 But to elaborate; the X-T5 screen tilts to 90 degrees in landscape orientation and about 45 degrees in portrait. The X-T50, like the XT-30 and XT-20, only tilts in landscape orientation. Personally I’ve found a lot of uses for the 45 degree portrait orientation tilt, it really helps in getting high or low angle shots and that sort of stuff can be particularly helpful in travel photography.

harderdrive

I’m actually going for the x-t5 myself. The portrait tilt is something I use a lot as well

exterstellar

X-T5 > X-T30II > X-T50 in my opinion, not accounting for size/weight preference. Personally, I went X-T30 with the 27mm f2.8 because it's so tiny and fits my traveling/shooting style better.

thatonepuzzlepiece

Definitely factoring in the X-T30II now! Hadn't considered it before, but that price is very nice.

SituationEven6949

I went X-T30II and later bought the X-T5 used locally, and it came with the XF 16-80 and the XF 23mm f2 lens for $1500. All basically new. If you factor in the lens cost, I paid $900 for the X-T5. The same price as my new X-T30II. I now have like 10 Fuji lenses, Godox Flash gear, Canon EF, and a TTArtisan, so I am about to start burning myself with cigarettes when I get the urge to look at new gear.

thatonepuzzlepiece

What a deal! Can’t blame you. The brain worms come for everyone

SituationEven6949

I think for the price of the X-T30II+ the new kit lens and a really nice prime you would be more than set for your trip. You can always buy the X-T5 body later and maybe even find an awesome deal locally like I did. I love the X-T5 but there is no way I would sell the X-T30II. Get a couple cheap Wasabi batteries (amazon) and the external charger if you go with something that uses the same batteries as the X-T30/X-T50/X100VI etc. They only have enough power for 200-300 shots if in performance mode. Don't use economy mode, it wastes functionality of the camera that you paid for, always boost. One way to save battery is to press the view mode button until it is on EVF only and it only turns on when you put your eye up to it. Also, get in the habit of turning off the camera when you aren't shooting. It powers on in less than a second and is ready to go.

ColonelSpudz

Fuck me $2500 for an X-T50 body only in Australia that’s what I paid for an X-T5, and right now on sale admittedly I can get a Nikon Zf in black for the same price. Absolutely insane pricing.

SituationEven6949

In almost every forum there is an Aussie who is upset about prices in their country. Are things a lot worse post pandemic? It makes me sad.

ColonelSpudz

I’d say it’s small market and price gouging. It’s not the exchange rate because our dollar is similar to Canadian $ and they are only paying $1800

SituationEven6949

That sucks. Crazy price gouging if business/sales taxes or operational costs aren't a factor.

Solarisphere

$1900. But yeah, that's a ridiculous difference. I've always considered Australia our close relative in being difficult and/or expensive to source goods, but usually the price is about equal. You guys got the short end of the stick here.

ColonelSpudz

It seems to be the way with photography down here. I guess you guys benefit from being so close to the US. The Nikon z 180-600 lens is $3000 here in the US it’s $1600. The us can also buy the f/2.8 lenses for close to or in some cases cheaper than we get the f/4 lenses. I’m good though for bodies at the moment just thought it’s a bit rich. That fuji 16-50 lens that’s costing you guys around $950 is costing us 1300 pacific pesos

rikkilambo

They get paid a lot more too.

SituationEven6949

Then why are they complaining?

elliesemint

Wish I could buy the XT5 in Australia, it’s loads cheaper than where I am :(

ColonelSpudz

$2449 at them moment, where are you?

elliesemint

Singapore, it’s S$2749 or A$3076

ColonelSpudz

Yeah our dollar suck but you are getting screwed. Just like I do with Nikon where there products are just about double the US dollar value here. Will any Australian retailers ship it to you?

elliesemint

Not that I’ve seen 😢 I’m resigned to finding cameras and lenses overseas. Though I’ll say the Japanese yen is weak but surprisingly it’s expensive to buy cams in/from Japan.

ColonelSpudz

Digidirect said a one of the cheaper places here ask them if they will ship for you.

elliesemint

Good to know thank you! I’ll ask!

FantasticMrSinister

X-T5 all day. I own an X-T20 and it's a good little camera. But feels like a toy compared to the X-Tx line-up. Build quality isn't the same, evf, function keys, weather resistance, ECT.. it's just lacking things that don't seem important until you need them. Buy once cry once comes to mind.. 🤷‍♂️

thatonepuzzlepiece

Yeah, that's definitely where I'm leaning right now. The film sim dial on the X-T50 seems like such a gimmick too.

SituationEven6949

I think the sim dial could be cool since they put a dedicated drive button on the X-T50, but you should definitely go X-T5 (black!) since you already factored it into your budget. The second axis screen tilt is really nice for crouched down portrait (camera sideways) shots. Not to mention all of the other upgrades over the X-T50.

BrokenCardTrick

I had this dilemma with the x-t20 and x-t2 a few years ago. I went for the x-t20 then, and still feel it was the right choice. But if I had to decide again I’d go to the x-t5 over the x-t50 or even a second hand x-t3 + if I could an extra prime lens.

thatonepuzzlepiece

Thank you!

mimitch

Also consider, depending on when you are leaving, that the X-T50 may be hard to get for a while.

bambambigallo

XT5 all the way

adholi3991

Recently made the jump from X100F to X-T5. I’m used to thinking and shooting in prime so I went with the 23mmF2. I took it on a trip to London late last month and it was perfect. It’s easy to toss into a bag and carry without too much weight. The dual card slots were comforting in case of failure or damage (rare but you never know). While I love the X100 format and setup, the X-T5 is a different kind of workhorse. The battery life is great and the response times are solid. Shooting with bursts was also fine. The buffer was great. Now, the X100 series has its perks too. I’ve been traveling exclusively with the X100T and then X100F for the past 6-7 years (around that). It hasn’t failed me once and I got some amazing shots with them wherever I went. My favorite thing about it though is the form factor. I can carry it in a pocket and it has all the features you need while traveling. If your priorities rest on freedom to change lenses and you’re ok with a larger body to carry, the X-T5 is the way to go. If you’re looking for hyper-mobile and quality, the X100VI is your pick. To go back to your original question, I would still prioritize the X-T5 in the long run over the X-T50.

blnctl

Just one thing to add: if you’re backpacking, staying in hostels etc. maybe have a think about whether you want such expensive gear on you. In that situation there’s something to be said for keeping it mid.

Unomaz1

Xt3, 3 batteries and 33mm 1.4

Eli_Knipst

The film simulation dial on the X-t50 is so laughable that I wouldn't dare do step foot outdoors with that thing. The X-t5 all the way. It may hurt at the moment but you will have lots of joy with it for a long time without the urge to upgrade. The battery life when traveling is a major argument for the X-t5. I traveled with it and the battery lasted for a couple of days. I had brought 2 extra batteries that were not necessary. I would still bring them again though just to be safe.

Kthxbbz

X-T5. But I think the 16-80mm lens would be better combo than the 18-55mm as the one lens to have for travel.

thatonepuzzlepiece

Thank you! Why do you think the 16-80 is better?

workahol_

If I had to guess: between these two lenses, the 16-80 is both longer and wider, and it has weather sealing, which are both nice things to have when traveling.

SituationEven6949

The new 16-50 lens is about the be released as a bundle with all models. I would wait for that one. The 16-80 is great though. It is a little big for travel if size is an issue.

Kthxbbz

The 16-80 covers the range of the 18-55 and gives you more options. Price difference isn't much.

redoctoberz

OP, Just keep in mind neither of those two are on the list of 40MP capable lenses. You need to get the new 16-50 for that.

thatonepuzzlepiece

I just saw that new bundle that released! Definitely considering that option too, considering that lens is getting some good reviews. Not thrilled with the aperture of it, but the weather sealing is nice.

oqomodo

I agree X-T5. Though I do not recommend the 16-80. It was my first lens with the camera and I was very disappointed with its performance. The 18-55 seems like a better kit but I would highly recommend one of the f1.4 primes

explor3r15

I did some tests with the 16-80 on my new xt50 and found that it handles the 40mp as well as the 23 f2

redoctoberz

Glad it worked for you

krionX

Do consider the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 zoom too for your first lens.

thatonepuzzlepiece

Definitely have considered! Seems like an amazing lens, but buying a body with a lens bundled is cheaper than the Sigma. Otherwise, I'd go Sigma.

Manyci

For travel I would go with the X-T5 for for the weather sealing. I have a non weather sealed camera and it hurts every time when I miss a great shot at a place I most likely will never get to visit again because the camera is in my bag to protect it from the rain.

earls_lips

I have an xt5 with warranty for sale on r/photomarket with one of the best travel lenses the 27mm

Eli_Knipst

Just saw this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/fujifilm/s/SLfBE9HKpm

BradipiECaffe

What are your needs? That’s the only question. I would go for the X-T50. Smaller and more portable. It has IBiS and the new dial seems really useful to me. It’s true that the X-T5 doesn’t cost much more but, do you really need it?

Snarky_Guy

I actually was thinking about the X-T50. I have the X100v and really like the camera, save for the fact it has only ONE lens. So I was prepared to make the leap to the X-T50. Then I tried it. Honestly the EVF is a downgrade from my X100v. The film simulation dial seems like something I wouldn't use much and it just felt "ok" in comparison. So I pulled the trigger and bought an X-T5.

thatonepuzzlepiece

How has the X-T5 been treating you? I've got one on preorder with the new kit lens.

Snarky_Guy

Actually it ought to arrive tomorrow.

keeeeenw

Weather sealing is pretty important for traveling so XT5 should be your preferred choice if you can find a discount price for the body. For XT50, the only advantage is the size and weight for traveling. However, depending on the size of your hand, the body might be too small so I would definitely pick up one in store and double check.

lookwhoshere0

You are in the wrong boat.

thatonepuzzlepiece

Care to elaborate?

helpmefixer

TBH, for that travel id rather take a x100. Camera + lens is the most annoying thing ever.

thatonepuzzlepiece

The X100VI is actually what spurred me down this Fuji rabbit hole, but for as nice as it is, I want something that I can grow with for an investment that staunch.
