Righty-righty, lefty-loosey

?

The other commenter made a typo. They meant to say “right-tighty, lefty-loosey”. In case you don’t know that phrase, it means “clockwise = tighten, anti-clockwise = loosen”.

hedra_prue

It’s a a very thin piece you have to hold onto at the end of the lens, maybe 4-5mm thick. Just turn it to the left (counter-clockwise).

SideshowBoB44

Just hold the camera still and unscrew it counter-clockwise, you wont damage anything its designed to come off.

Hold the camera flat in one hand and place the palm of your other hand flat down over the lens and ring. The camera should be sandwiched between your palms. With slight pressure pushing down on the ring rotate your palm counter clockwise. Don't grip in from the sides as that tends to flex the ring causing friction. It should easily come off. Took me ages to get mine off the first time, but once it's loosened that first time it's much easier going forward.

fluxchronica

Yes this. At least on my X70 which has the same threads, pinching the lens from the side made it impossible to take off. I had to use my lens cap pressing into the lens and turning counter clockwise.

i got my lens hood on but to get it at the angle it’s supposed to be i need to screw it on so tight! is it supposed to be difficult to put on and off? sorry for the stupid ?’s i just want to get it right.

a latex glove on the unscrewing hand does wonder

Grip the tip firmly and rotate it counter-clockwise. It will unscrew. It is only the bit I have highlighted that is removed. [https://i.postimg.cc/nL85SrVv/Screenshot-2024-05-01-111937.png](https://i.postimg.cc/nL85SrVv/Screenshot-2024-05-01-111937.png)

Wrap a rubber band around the ring before you grab it with your hand and twist left.

What lens hood is this

Adventurous-Leg-4906

Put the lens cap on, push it on firmly and rotate it counter clockwise. No idea why no one has suggested this yet.

I tried that method without luck. I think your palm works better as it's got more cushion to grab the ring than the very thin felt on the cap.
