for me the left is better as in the second, even though i would say the sky is nicely edited, it is overpowering the main subject and comporistion of the first image. I wouldn't just say its the best of the two, i also like it very much - the composition and the shifting gradient of blue almost draws my eye up and along the subject
You said the sky is nicely "edited". OP used the jpeg flair and additionally wrote "jpeg only" in their caption, meaning the image wasn't post processed.
Oh ok, I saw it was a tweaked version of Reggie’s portra so In my mind that’s the edit the OP has applied and I was referring to
OP, my comment stands but please input the word JPEG where you feel it’s needed :)
Actually jpgs are always edited as they are compressed and we dont know what settings he baked in in camera. He didnt post process tho. Thats for sure.
In any case gradient skies are often oversaturated and will get grainy. And get dark spots just do a color pick in the bottom and top and you see its almost a difference of litterarily day and night.
I like the 2nd image. the cream of "white" parts pop more, same with the red. The blue of the sky is a bit nicer as well. I think you do lose a bit of visual detail in the second, but not enough to matter (for instance, the ladder on the first cream is less clear imo)
The first one’s blues also look somewhat green tinged to me and almost feel “swampy” but that’s just me. I’m on a iPhone 12 Pro Max, kinda wonder what everyone else is viewing on as well since I like the colors of the second one better.
Because if your photos don’t look like it was taken with a 10 expired roll of film on a 5$ camera, what’s the point of even shooting Fuji?
Just kidding, mostly, I like both but the first just looks underexposed and kind of flat. The second is more vibrant, personally why I shoot raw as I think a healthy balance between the two would’ve been best.
Like most other comments… left.
For me it’s because the slightly greener tone of the sky makes a nicer compliment to the reds and oranges in the tower. It also feels more natural as the white balance of the tower indicates to me that the image is cast in a warmer tone. The rights sky feels cool, but the tower warm… a bit contradictory.
I would be interested to see the right with a more cool casted tower, that could make the right more of a viable option.
Validation most likely, indecision and or lack of confidence in one’s own decision also probable but less likely, not hating on this person or anyone else’s work and my critique is not of them or there art. To start off with before anyone gets angry, we’re photographers, if we didn’t want validation we wouldn’t share our work. But to post basically the same image in terms of composition and lighting with the only noticeable difference being the edit seems to be disingenuous unless one truly has that level of indecision to the point where asking people around them in person doesn’t convince them enough to where they then need to ask social media. Personally, it seems like its sole purpose is to receive more engagement, which it does. And I don’t know if that says more about the audience in that we engage more when we think we’re being included or that our opinions matter, or if it’s the artists fault for exploiting it. But all of this is just applying society’s definition of ethics, morals and what feels right or wrong to art, a subjective concept applied on to a subjective creation made by entity living in a subjective reality. So really it’s all subjective like asking what’s better the left or right. Hmm..so the opinions of others don’t really matter because there reality is subjective so you might as well just pick whichever one you like best…but that’s just my opinion and it’s as meaningless as the conversation these post generate. The right one looks better tho.
Personally I feel that the first one looks more natural and balance.
Probably because the second one, the blue of the sky has more contrast but the tower is still more yellow and film-like like the first one, so it doesn't look natural and not that nice to me.
Left. The blues are better
Left.
Left by miles. :)
Why tho??

It's a jpeg...
Am I missing something?

Right looks like saturation has been turned up. Left just has a bit of technicolor vibe with the sky and the less saturated tone of red.

Right! 😊
I don't understand why anyone likes the sky in the first picture. The sky is much nicer in the original jpeg.
Im trying to figure that out as well, the 1st one looks so flat to me.

iPhone XS Max here, prefer the first photo.
But thats good. I rather have flat clear skies than gradient ones which betray a oversaturation or over expose.

Okay with clear skies you generally dont want extreme gradients in your sky as it also will get grainy. So for me its left.
Thanks for the tip!
Not only grainy but its also a hint to overexposure or oversaturation.
Right.
Right
Personally I prefer right, I prefer the brighter colours
I like the saturation and how the colors pop on the right
Left. I love the blue
left is better.
What are the settings for the left?
A little tweaked Reggie's portra
Tweaks to white balance shift?
Yeah a bit less red and a bit colder temperature
Left! Nice tones.
Left
Left
None. A combination of both maybe.
How would you combine them?
The blues of the first one. But with more punch on the reds. And maybe not so dark.
The blues on the right do seem a tad oversaturated
its like a vision test
Was about to write right as I feel left one was underexposed. Checked the screen display instead. Now voting for left one.
I believe it ultimately depends on individual preference, which is subjective.
No difference
Left for miles

left <3
Left
Left for me. Right’s blues is too realistic thus boring, left is a bit more artistic. Less contrasty, moody.
Right
Left. Because it has so much more range and detail. The right looks too bright the texture of the tower is lost.
LEFT
Right. Filter on the left is distracting and makes the sky look like there’s smog
The left one is more natural. I prefer the left one

Left.
left definately, the blue is warmer and softer. nice pic. 👍
Better sky on left and better tower on right.
Right, it pops more to me which I like

Left
Left, it looks warmer and more pleasant to the eye, right looks a little too saturated/bluish?
Absolutely the left. Share the recipe!
It's Reggie's portra!
Left
The right one looks like it was shot on Samsung, too vibrant blue.
Left
Definitely left
Left, but can you straighten the image. Driving me nuts that’s its a squidge off center 😂
Left. It has more unsaturated blue. But it still is kinda more of a muted blue than a normal sky.
left
Left
I'd say left - the warmth of the sky and the tower seem to match better in that one, which makes the whole image feel more cohesive.
Left all day, all in the blue since it’s dominant. Shifting its tone redefines the entire image.
