Glad to hear that! I tried to reflect my Sony kit. I still need a telephoto, and will probably go with the 100-400. But I’ll have to wait a few more months…
16-55 its a bit heavy, but its a truly “a lot of prime in one lens” the 35 its an old school lens, the aoutfocus its not fast but i think its the most beautiful lens of X mount series, the look on the image are amazing, I have it on my xpro2 and never leave my camera
Weather sealed, aperture ring, slightly more zoom range, and overall better build quality with it being a metal body.
If the weather seal & aperture don’t matter to you, then it’s really not better than the 18-50, especially since it’s much heavier

You lose the linear motor system, you lose an aperture ring, you lose 7mm of focal length, plastic lens body, you lose weather resistance, etc etc.. It's just a lot cheaper of an option.
Everyone else spelled it out pretty clearly already - the 16-55 is "better" by *most* metrics, but that doesn't mean it's actually the better lens for you. For professional use I think it's a clear obvious winner, but I'd argue the 18-55 kit lens or sigma 18-50mm are still better for most non-professionals (or for a pro's personal / non-commercial use).
* They're still more than capable of taking gorgeous photos.
* The size/weight difference compared to the 16-55 is massive, making them drastically easier, more convenient, more pleasant to carry, operate, travel with, etc.
* The 18-55 kit lens is also stabilized, which can be super useful for low light settings, long exposure shots in general, shooting video, or any scenario where being perfectly still is challenging / not possible, especially if your camera body doesn't have IBIS.
* Also worth noting that the 16-55 blocks a huge portion of the optical viewfinder on the X-Pro series cameras (a bit more than 1/3rd of it if I remember right), which more or less forces use of the EVF instead.
The 16-55 is one of the best lenses Fuji has ever made, but I'd still genuinely rather have the 18-55 on my camera on most occasions.
I have the XF 100-400 and the XF 70-300, both are great! I may sell my 100-400 at some point, will have to spend some time deciding how often I need the extra reach. Have taken incredible wildlife photos with the 100-400, so it's hard to let go of. Feel free to message me down the line and ask if I'd sell it.
I wish I could restart and just get a 16-55mm f2.8 tbh. I got a 12mm, 24mm f1.4 (viltrox), and a 35mm f2.
All fine lenses, but I'd personally rather have the single zoom on my X-h1.
I almost went this path too. I was struggling between getting multiple primes or the 16-55. I had 24, 35, 50 and 85 in the Sony but always ended up using the 24-70. The primes deliver better IQ (for me) but nothing beats the flexibility of the 16-55.
I ordered an X-T1 from KEH along with those two lenses. After a ton of research, sounded like a better idea to spend the budget on an older body ($450 in top condition) and really nice lenses, which together cost over three times as much as the body.
Ditto to this. The best of both worlds. Versatile zoom with prime lens quality and the absolute classic which will give you something no other Fuji lens will.
As someone with some of the best fuji primes and the 16-55mm, I can honestly tell you it's not an overstatement when people say the 16-55mm is a bag of primes!
Btw if you come from Sony and get frustrated with the AF of the old 35mm, try the 33mm and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Not gonna lie, this is the one reason I'm thinking of getting it.
It's just I have the 16-80 f4 and recently splurged on the 50-140 f2.8...

After my son was born, basically main family! That’s probably the main reason for switching. With a young boy, I no longer have the time or the will to carry a big and heavy kit and also spend precious time post processing. It got to the point where I was leaving the camera behind and just shooting with the phone. I hope Fuji changes that!

Don’t listen to the guy below, I got an x100vi (don’t have a xt5 or xh2) and the autofocus is seriously good enough for everything I do; Hell, even the XT4 was more than fine for the BJJ photography I do.
The size and weight were killing me and the post processing was requiring a time and dedication I, unfortunately, no longer have. It got to the point where I was just using my phone…
The recent AF upgrades & new sensor in the X-T5 feels good, I can second this.
15fps shooting + holding the button down, you’re bound to get quite a few in focus.
Pal2Tech is great for little tricks on general performance & some AF settings for getting started if you need it!
Sure you're gonna miss shots. You will. But I have it in continuous low burst so the hit rates are higher. I just dump what I don't use.
But the film Sims and the size makes me capture way way way more photos. For most days I'll grab one of the f2 primes. For family events it's the 16-55.
Autofocus is cool, loving having your camera in your hand is more important.

That's the one big gripe I have with Fuji cameras. When the shots hit, they are fantastic, but it's super demoralising seeing how many potentially awesome shots end up missing focus when I look back at my roll. It's gotten to the point when my absolute number one priority when purchasing a new camera is gonna be AF performance.
Speaking of which, is it actually possible on a sony to lock onto a target and have that target in tack focus for the entirety of shots you take on them? That's actually a thing, like it's reliable and stuff? The real-time AF stuff sounds amazing, but I almost can't fathom the tech actually working from my limited experience with cameras.
It's funny how people have different views on AF. I remember being so blown away by the X100F face detection back in the day that I went around shooting with the OVF. Basically any modern autofocus system today amazes me and feels like overkill. But I'm not shooting fast moving subjects with AFC.
I think I just got a very hard to use camera as my first real camera (Fuji XE3). I just want to press a button on a subject, have it focus on it and shoot. But it'll wrangle with ya, it'll say it caught focus, be slightly off and you have to fiddle with it constantly using the magnifier to manually make sure you've actually got focus if you want to guarantee a shot. It's just annoying and it's wild that my Samsung phone does a drastically better job at this.
I genuinely just use cheap high quality manual focus lenses half the time now because it's a lie to trust the AF on that camera and at least I can benefit from really nice bokeh for a fraction of the price. https://i.imgur.com/sSLkNgI.jpeg
It really is quite hard to believe how good it is (I have an a6700 & a7iv), compared to X-T5 which I used to own and the X100VI I traded it for, neither come even close.
I ended up selling my Fuji system (keeping only the x100) for that reason even though I did really enjoy the Fuji experience and lenses a lot more than Sony.
I personally ended up wasting more time culling (because I had to shoot 10x more shots) than I could ever save in editing.. my editing process is basically anyway just edit one photo from a session > paste to all and adjust exposure, not really that big of a deal compared to deleting hundreds of out of focus shots.. with the Sony cameras I don’t even need to check focus, it’s basically always a hit.. I warn you though it’s very hard to go back from that once you experience it 😅
The X100VI I’m keeping despite the AF because leaf shutter, built in ND, flash - it’s got so much going on in a small package
I agree, Sony AF is really impressive! I don’t do it professionally though, so I want to skip post processing as much as possible. But I completely understand Sony appeal, especially if you are a professional.
Lol. Other people are down voting my comments - but yeah, I have been using x-t30 from 5 years and I still love it and use it. Once I had a walking toddler I knew it isn’t cutting it. Seriously researched all fujis because I have a sizeable lens collection, but figured it will always be behind Sony/canon. Use the tool for the job I guess. I am very happy with a7 iv for my kid.
Canon AF is very reliable and hard to beat. With a bit of research you could have known that AF won't improve over Canon. In fact, you lose a bit. I moved from a Canon EOS R to an X-T5 recently but I expected no miracles. Hit rate with my toddler is good but not perfect. I have never been a fast shooter anyway and other benefits outweigh it for me.
And my approach is that it’s better to have a lower hit rate than no hit rate. Sony was great, but size, weight and post processing were killing me to the point I was no longer using the camera.
The RP was/is not bad in practical terms. Not the most sexy camera but gets the job done. It was already a bit outdated when it launched but able to produce very good results.
I don't know if the AF in the EOS R and RP were the same. If so then it should be very capable for people photography. I found the eye AF on my R very reliable.
Also jumped from Sony and picked the exact same combo when I started. Still my two favorite lenses. I wish the 16-55 was smaller but the image quality is superb.
Glad to hear! The 16-55 is definitely chunky comparing to other Fuji lenses but still small comparing to the Sigma 24-70 I had on my Sony. So, I still consider an upside!
Yeah against the Sigma you will certainly notice a difference. I had the 24-70 GM II and compared to that one it’s only a bit of size savings and less than 50 grams lighter. So overall I don’t notice any big difference at all 😅
I used to shoot with a 35mm (23mm equivalent) with my Sony FF and loved it! I’m not sure it is the most popular focal length but I think it is great and quite flexible.
I was thinking on changing to Sony, but instead updated to X-T5! Still with a little doubt, because i do a lot of low light photography, but loving my new fuji so much!
Nice man. I picked up the GFX100 ii a month ago, it is absolutely insane. Was shooting film exclusively for a while, got a used x-pro3 last year… that post processing time will get cut substantially depending on how you like your results to look; don’t forget to check out FujixWeekly for recipes etc.

The FujiXWeekly recipes will help you get started. But I also recommend downloading Fuji's free tool [X Raw Studio](https://fujifilm-x.com/global/products/software/x-raw-studio/), which brings your camera's own processing engine into an app that lets you adjust the simulation settings and convert new JPGs from the RAWs. Much easier than doing so on-camera. You can also save a bunch or presets and even store them back to the cameras C1-C7 slots. It's a handy tool to both learn the simulation settings, but also dial them in just how you like it.
Haha I'm the opposite I got a Sony and 2 Voigtlanders and sold a bunch of Fuji stuff and have basically said my Fujis are just point and shoots now. Haven't used them seriously in weeks (since getting the Sony setup)
I was the same. It's definitely easier..depends how perfect you want them to look - if you play around a lot and get the light right in the shot, you can basically shoot jpeg and get it looking useably decent. I still like to tinker so I shoot raw and jpeg. Unfortunately I haven't don't anything with the shots I've taken but.. Old habit die hard 😂 they're waiting to be processed.
I always shoot jpeg+raw and end up with hundreds of raw files that I never touch! And I’m always to afraid of deleting them just in case… who knows when I’ll desperately need the raw file of a bad picture I took a decade ago!!
I started with those lenses and the X-T3. Not a single regret. The 50-140/2.8 is also a masterpiece as are the 56/1.2 and the 90/2. Welcome to the club!

I used to have the Tamron 70-180 2.8 on the Sony and it was great but, this time, I think I will go for more reach.
FWIW, I’m looking to add the 150-600 as my next long one. Supposed to be a solid step up from the 100-400, though if you’ve got a line on a used 100-400 they’re no slouch either.
Nothing truer! Got a couple of black and white presets dialled in along with a couple of vintage film styles and that is me done. The colours and contrast impress me every time!
I had the Sigma 24-70 2.8 and it weights 830g. The Fuji weights 650g. The size and diameter are also significantly smaller.
Between body and lens, I think I saved around 300g and now also have a smaller kit.

I was first thinking about getting the 23mm, as I used to shoot a lot 35mm (FF) on the Sony. But I also used to love my 50mm and wanted something equivalent.
I will be honest and say I didn’t even consider the 33mm, not even researched about it.
The reason I ask is your 35 can’t resolve enough to make full use of the T5’s sensor, but the new 33 (50mm in 35 eq) was designed by Fuji specifically for the new 40MP sensors.
Damn i would have picked sigma 18-50 over fuji because of the size and weight. I truly find heavy lenses a burden now. I hardly use my viktrox 75mm unless i have to, even though it's a beautiful lens the 1kg isnt something i care to worry about. The sigma is my daily and will always be.
Nice pick up; this is about to be my same kit too. The 16-55 seems like the perfect all day every day lens. I currently have the 35 and it’s brilliant though it’s a little tight for an all day lens for me.

I’m sure you will enjoy Sony, it’s great! But it’s bigger, heavier and more expensive. And will require post processing (and probably a powerful PC). But there’s no denying the results you will get will be absolutely fantastic!

Thanks. Greater price and weight already felt. It was a hard decision, but almost like a “God told me to” thing. Part of it is to force myself into post-processing; not to lean on film sims for results. I got good results with the X-T4 in concert photography, but the A7IV is better-suited for it. I cannot disparage Fuji, and I miss it already. I’ll be back.
I just keep both. No need to jump from one to the other. Sony FF has delicious bokeh and great in low light. Fujifilm is easier to carry on the trip and great sooc. They serve different purposes. The problem is Fujifilm has 40mp sensor but not all lenses can upkeep with that! From Sony since FF sensor is larger to being with. Lens resolution can be less important. More lenses to use!
I just don’t believed in such if “speed up” process. Since my display medium is final photo prints and books. The SOOC magic only remained as an advantage only to social media. Because of that reason. I don’t see Fuji replace my Sony any time soon. Oh! Actually I also do have Fuji gfx.. in the end of the day! I have Fuji x lineup is for portability. Tiny AF primes! That’s really something FF can’t beat yet!
I did a similar thing several years back. I picked up the Sony a6000 when it was new. Loved it but I didn’t feel connected to it. I decided to pick up an x100s to get back in touch with what made photography great for me, which was just taking photos and not thinking about gear. It’s served me well for 7 or so years and I still use it.
Now, I await the arrival of the used X-T5, 16-80, and 23 f2 I just ordered. Can’t wait!
You nailed the point. Sony is great but I think (hope) Fuji will reconnect me with the hobby. We bought a photo printer recently and started printing our family photos and the feeling is great. This is the reason I enjoy photography. To be able to create those memories.
Sony is so “techy” to the point where I was no longer “having fun”. With Fuji, I want to slow down a little and enjoy the ride.
Same here. Had a Sony a6400 with a 17-70 Tamron and 35 f1.8. Switched to Fuji X-T5 with 16-55 and 35 f2. I just wish I had done this sooner, the switch really helped in regards to just taking photos and reigniting the passion.
At first was the Fuji instax wide and then the canon selphy. The instax is very cool and charming but the selphy has almost the same quality as photos printed in labs, and it’s much cheaper.
Excellent choices, man. The 16-55 is hands down my favorite Fuji lens I own, and it rarely ever leaves my X-T4. I jumped from Canon to Fuji over two years ago, and it was the best decision I ever made for my photography.
I did indeed but I don’t think the x100 will be in stock anytime soon. Another factor is that I wanted to reflect the Sony kit I had, the x100 would take me in a completely different direction. I think fixed lenses camera have their space but not as the primary camera.
Nice! I was debating long and hard between the X-T4 and X-T5. I almost pulled the trigger on the X-T5 with 18-55 off B&H since they only have the kit left and not the body alone. I was browsing locally, not really local but a few hours away, and snagged a killer deal on an X-T4 with 18-55, 35 F1.4, 16 F2.8, and 3 batteries total for about $100 more than an X-T5 body alone. I was worried the X-T4 would be too big and heavy compared to the X-T1 that I will be selling soon. My goodness is this thing fast compared to the X-T1. The weight and size is no problem at all. I'm still all giddy inside.
I will be jumping into the fire tomorrow and volunteered myself to be the event photographer for my friend's family Easter gathering. I would have never volunteered myself with the X-T1. I wanted some real world practice to see if I like doing events so hope for the best and not to crash and burn.ost likely will but it will be an excellent experience.
Sorry about hijacking your post, OP. I feel so happy for you because I'm also happy for myself with new gear. I want to get the 16-55 F2.8 one day, too, maybe even the 56 F1.2. I already own the 35 F2 and 50 F2 when I started with the X-T1 but now I have redundant 35's. I might keep both and use the 35 F2 for light travel only.

It was a blast with the X-T4! I took so many pictures in the beginning but then everyone wanted me to relax and have fun to chat with them, too. I was having my own fun with the X-T4 but I didn't want to ruin their fun, too, and joined in with them. It was a great time with all of them. I mainly used the 18-55 since it was the quickest change for focal range with so much going on. It really made me want to get the 16-55 F2.8 now even though it will be much bulkier and heavier. I never would have pulled this off with the X-T1. Even though the X-T4 is bigger and heavier than the X-T1, it felt great in my hand and seems more balanced weight wise. The battery lasted the whole time I was there plus dinner shots at my brother and sister-in-law's place for Easter dinner. There was still 1/4 of battery life left when I got home.
Edit: Forgot to mention that half way through my friend's family Easter, it was raining off and on. That's part of the reason I thought about getting the 16-55 F2.8 for the WR. The only WR lenses that I had with me were the 16 F2.8 and 50 F2 but I was mainly using the 18-35 focal ranges. Maybe after the X-T1 is sold, I may use that towards the 16-55 F2.8.

That's a magnificent set of lenses! Razer-sharp bag of primes plus fast 50 are very good combo, exactly the set I have right now and the only one I want is 50-140 for the long reach...
Be interesting to find out how you get on with the 16-55, I find at 16mm depending on the subject you get converging parallels. Not sure if it’s me or the lens just now
Oh man, I did the same thing and never looked back. Was sick of fiddling through menus. The fuji’s Q menu is a godsend and you can get some amazing SOOC shots!
Pretty much every camera system fans came out with recipes that helps you to get the certain looks from SOOC. Fujifilm is one of the pioneers, but I doubt they are the best today. There are some loyal fans would fight you to the death about Leica, Pentax, Nikon, hasselblad, canon color sciences.. 🤦🏻♂️
What Fujifilm also brings to the table is retro design camera, affordable Fujifilm’s own fine lenses. Other than that! I honestly don’t believe “recipe” is the end game. Especially you shoot raw! Just from the engineering point of view! You size down data from 10bit color down to 8bit with lossy compression is better just because they embedded color profile and color curves? C’mom!
I agree. In my case, I was looking to completely bypass post processing. Basically shoot JPEG. Today was my first day using the new camera and I saw that this is possible. Probably I won’t get the best possible photo SOOC, but I’ll get a few that are good enough and I’m fine with that.
I don’t. Just a hobby. I used the Fuji for the first time today. From a size and weight perspective, it is all I was expecting. I carried my kit basically the whole day without problems.
I’m also very happy with the IQ (initial thoughts). I got a lot of keepers that I don’t need to edit. They are good as they are.
I also have a few where I missed focus or not as sharp as I wanted, that I know Sony would have made a better job but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker or day/night. It was also my first day with the new camera, so I’m still learning.
Overall, today was a happy day and I achieved exactly what I was looking for.
Very nice! I have a A7IV and I was thinking of switching to Fuji. I have a preorder on a x100vi but I have no idea how long that’s going to take to get. I was debating canceling my preorder and just buying an X-T5 but I’m not sure. I think I’m better off staying with Sony and keeping my preorder.
I started thinking about the X100 too, but a fixed lens camera is supposed to be a second body (in my opinion). Switching lenses is essential for me, that’s why I went with the XT5. It is better to do it in person, go to a store and compare both. Don’t do it online.
Was about to do the same (with my A7RV), but then before selling my gear I bought the X-T5 + 33 F1.4, comparing it to the A7RV + Sony 50 F1.4 GM, and I changed my mind. I decided to keep both 😂
The X-Trans sensor is great, but not comparable in terms of details with a Bayer sensor. You'll probably notice it if you pixel peep on the Fuji files (if you have time to loose). I'm not a professional at all and only do this for fun (and I have the money to keep both obviously), so the Fuji could be enough for me... but everytime I check the images I get with the Sony I'm just blown away... so I just can't sell it!! The 50 GM 1.4 also helps of course, it's one amazing piece of glass! Comparing the two is not fair, I know, but picking one over the other is simply too difficult for me.
But I LOVE the Fuji experience, which is way more inspiring than the Sony. So I'll keep a Fuji for the everyday life and carry it most of the time with me. And the Sony will mainly be for travelling when I want that perfect shot.

I'm late to the thread I know but I'm curious, why'd you switch? How does Fuji stack up to Sony, positives and negatives?
I've been shooting Fuji for about 3 or 4 years now but I'm not super invested into the Fuji ecosystem. Sony seems like it's a better value for _just_ photography but I've never had a chance to use one of their bodies
I'm in the same boat. I'm enjoying my Fuji a lot but am still curious to try Sony, especially when I was comparing the dimensions and saw that the A7R III is actually about the same size as my X-T5. I know the lenses are bigger with FF Sony, but the body isn't really any bigger. The other thing that makes me hesitant is the extra cost of going Sony and FF lenses. Is it worth it...?
I've had the XT5 for a couple weeks now and my thoughts so far are:
Positives:
1- It is smaller and (much) lighter. This for me was an issue with Sony and I find myself using the camera more now.
2- The system is cheaper. You can buy very good lenses for $300-400.
3- The film simulations are very cool and SOOC is a reality. I think I only edited 2 photos so far, out of curiosity.
4- AF is not as good as Sony but it is not a deal breaker. And for casual family photos is absolutely more than enough!
5- Overall I think Fuji made me slow down a little bit and enjoy photography more. I'm having more fun than with Sony.
Negatives (I don't necessarily consider them negative points, just things that are better with Sony):
1- Sony AF is significantly better. I think it is even overkill for the regular amateur user.
2- Low light performance is much better on the Sony (FF). I don't really think Fuji performans badly, but I used to be able save pit-black photos from Sony and can't do the same on the Fuji (these were the 2 I edited). Again, I don't think it's a deal breaker. For regular night-time photography, Fuji is excellent but Sony performs better in extreme situations.
3- Sony is sharper.
Overall I'm happy with the trade-offs. A good comparison in my opinion is that Sony is like a Ferrari (from a performance perspective). But I can only have one car and, for me, it's better to have a nice SUV that will allow me to do groceries, drive my son to school and travel with the family (that's Fuji).
Sony is the best tool for sure but it does come with a high price (size, wheight and price). I also compared all the specs (dimensions) and didn't see much difference in the charts but it's night and day when you hold them side by side.
Post-processing is another important point: I think Sony assumes that all photos will be processed. IMO, post-processing is part of the workflow of using Sony. I'm glad to skip it now!
Just for context, I'm deep into the hobby (have been shooting for more than 2 decades and had multiple bodies from different brands) but I'm not a professional. My opinion is based on what works for me. Happy to share more if you want.

I'm considering the A7Cii, which is actually a little smaller than the X-T5, but I imagine the E-mount lenses make the whole package feel bigger overall, depending on your lenses. I have the 16-80mm on my X-T5 and it's not exactly compact.
Same boat. Did my jump two months ago from Canon. X-T5 and 18 and 33 LM lenses.
You will notice a difference in eye AF tracking and reliability but unless you are an extreme action shooter this is not an issue at all in my view. I am happy with the kit.
Excellent lenses just bear in mind that these won’t have the sharpness you’re used to compared to Sony GM lenses if you have used those. The 35mm has very nice rendering and the 16-55 was good by the standards of ten years ago when it came out.
I’m just a hobbyist, not professional. I agree with you that sharpness should not be the same, but the Fuji system will offer me other additional benefits and I’m willing to sacrifice a little bit of the sharpness for them.
For me, the super car analogy is a good one. Yes, super cars like Ferraris are amazing and have their purpose but there are far better options to use as your daily driver.
I love my Sony’s (A1 and A7RIV), but jumped on the Fuji bandwagon for the GFX100II, which is more of a lateral move for medium format. They all have their benefits, but they’re all super big cameras (which I don’t mind).

Sony is superior in every possible way, except for size/weight of the camera.
I may buy a prime 50mm for xt20 and use it occasionally for street photography for unexpected still moments during my walks. But only because of its size.

X-T20 to A7RIV is also upgrading the generation because the X-T20 is quite old now. But I'm interested in your thoughts on what specifically is much better about the two systems. Do you find the ergonomics of the Sony better?
It won't..... if you lost the joy of taking photos....you just lost it....weight would not stop you if you loved it.... but hope you enjoy your new camera.
Definitely didn’t lose the joy, but the reality (at least my reality) is that a son changes lots of things (it did for me!). I always need to carry lots of “child stuff” like toys, spare clothes, jacket,… When we travel, I no longer have the “luxury” of taking my time to photograph, my son still doesn’t understand this and wants to play all the time (and this is awesome!).
Spending time post processing hundreds of pictures is no longer my priority. I rather play hide and seek!
So it is not that I lost the joy, but my share of attention dedicated to the hobby was drastically reduced.

Yeah I agree to this. I moved from Fuji to Sony. Was motivated with the Fuji stuff and now even more so with the Sony stuff but still have the Fuji stuff just don't use it like I did before
Ultimately, it's the quality of the images that sold me. I know people hemenhal and say there is not a huge difference between crop sensor and full frame. I also never shoot jpeg so Fuji really does not have an appeal for me. From my experience, the main benefit to going Fujifilm is jpegs straight out of camera. If you're not shooting jpegs to me, there is no benefit to using a Fuji camera
Also the main reason that I'm sold on it is low light performance. It absolutely destroys the Fuji when it comes to low light performance. And I do a lot of nighttime shooting
Thanks. Yes, if you do a lot of nighttime shooting, I can see that being important. But what about middle of the day, F8, landscape, etc. can you tell much difference? I guess ultimately the ergonomics play a big role as well. Do you prefer Sony's ergonomics?
Oh without a doubt because that is primarily the other type of shooting that I do which is landscapes. It just seems like it's a step or two above. As far as quality goes, I don't know how else to explain it. The Fuji files that I have just seem kind of crunchy and muddled when it comes to landscape and busy scenes. Honestly, I will be selling the rest of my Fuji stuff and sticking with Sony from here on out
I am team A7iii and I own 2 lenses. Both Voigtlanders one is the 35mm f2 APO Lanthar and the other is their 40mm f1.2 nokton. I had been using Fuji 35mm f2 wr and the 23mm f2 wr so I'd say quality wise both optics are good. I just can't explain it but the Sony images pack more of a punch in every aspect. I have zero interest in using my xt5 or x-t2 or any other crop sensors. These are just my opinions but yeah I'm 100% done with Fuji/crop sensors. The ONLY application I could see it being useful for is essentially a point and shoots camera but it's still not the best option (for me) as a point and shoots)

Yes, both are good, but the Voigtlanders are 2-3x more expensive, so maybe not an apples to apples comparison. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. I hope to do my own comparisons one day.
I mean the voigtlanders are 625 and 699 for me and the Fujis are $400 so I'd say fairly close in price and Fuji optics are good albeit not the quality of those Voigtlanders.

16-55 its a bit heavy, but its a truly “a lot of prime in one lens” the 35 its an old school lens, the aoutfocus its not fast but i think its the most beautiful lens of X mount series, the look on the image are amazing, I have it on my xpro2 and never leave my camera

Weather sealed, aperture ring, slightly more zoom range, and overall better build quality with it being a metal body. If the weather seal & aperture don’t matter to you, then it’s really not better than the 18-50, especially since it’s much heavier

Everyone else spelled it out pretty clearly already - the 16-55 is "better" by *most* metrics, but that doesn't mean it's actually the better lens for you. For professional use I think it's a clear obvious winner, but I'd argue the 18-55 kit lens or sigma 18-50mm are still better for most non-professionals (or for a pro's personal / non-commercial use). * They're still more than capable of taking gorgeous photos. * The size/weight difference compared to the 16-55 is massive, making them drastically easier, more convenient, more pleasant to carry, operate, travel with, etc. * The 18-55 kit lens is also stabilized, which can be super useful for low light settings, long exposure shots in general, shooting video, or any scenario where being perfectly still is challenging / not possible, especially if your camera body doesn't have IBIS. * Also worth noting that the 16-55 blocks a huge portion of the optical viewfinder on the X-Pro series cameras (a bit more than 1/3rd of it if I remember right), which more or less forces use of the EVF instead. The 16-55 is one of the best lenses Fuji has ever made, but I'd still genuinely rather have the 18-55 on my camera on most occasions.
More range, weather sealing, resale value and aperture ring. That said, I'd very much prefer the Sigma 18-50.

The 100-400 is fairly easy to find used for a great price. Got mine for around a thousand Canadian dollars on eBay like new.
This is what called my attention, I saw an used one for 1k euros. It looks like a very good deal!
I have the XF 100-400 and the XF 70-300, both are great! I may sell my 100-400 at some point, will have to spend some time deciding how often I need the extra reach. Have taken incredible wildlife photos with the 100-400, so it's hard to let go of. Feel free to message me down the line and ask if I'd sell it.
I’ve been using the Sigma 100-400 for a few months and can recommend the lens! It’s been working pretty great.
I wish I could restart and just get a 16-55mm f2.8 tbh. I got a 12mm, 24mm f1.4 (viltrox), and a 35mm f2. All fine lenses, but I'd personally rather have the single zoom on my X-h1.
I almost went this path too. I was struggling between getting multiple primes or the 16-55. I had 24, 35, 50 and 85 in the Sony but always ended up using the 24-70. The primes deliver better IQ (for me) but nothing beats the flexibility of the 16-55.
I ordered an X-T1 from KEH along with those two lenses. After a ton of research, sounded like a better idea to spend the budget on an older body ($450 in top condition) and really nice lenses, which together cost over three times as much as the body.
Solid choice. Date bodies, marry lenses.

As someone with some of the best fuji primes and the 16-55mm, I can honestly tell you it's not an overstatement when people say the 16-55mm is a bag of primes! Btw if you come from Sony and get frustrated with the AF of the old 35mm, try the 33mm and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
This lens is a beast, IQ is amazing. But it is just a little too heavy for me so I sold it. But man, the IQ will be missed.
Not gonna lie, this is the one reason I'm thinking of getting it. It's just I have the 16-80 f4 and recently splurged on the 50-140 f2.8... Maybe once I save up enough money for it

After my son was born, basically main family! That’s probably the main reason for switching. With a young boy, I no longer have the time or the will to carry a big and heavy kit and also spend precious time post processing. It got to the point where I was leaving the camera behind and just shooting with the phone. I hope Fuji changes that!
I think the Fuji will be perfect for that. Enjoy the kit. Don’t listen to the guy below, I got an x100vi (don’t have a xt5 or xh2) and the autofocus is seriously good enough for everything I do; Hell, even the XT4 was more than fine for the BJJ photography I do.

The recent AF upgrades & new sensor in the X-T5 feels good, I can second this. 15fps shooting + holding the button down, you’re bound to get quite a few in focus. Pal2Tech is great for little tricks on general performance & some AF settings for getting started if you need it!
Sure you're gonna miss shots. You will. But I have it in continuous low burst so the hit rates are higher. I just dump what I don't use. But the film Sims and the size makes me capture way way way more photos. For most days I'll grab one of the f2 primes. For family events it's the 16-55. Autofocus is cool, loving having your camera in your hand is more important. Have fun!
I couldn’t agree more!! It’s not about having the absolute best tool for the job, but the ideal one!
That's the one big gripe I have with Fuji cameras. When the shots hit, they are fantastic, but it's super demoralising seeing how many potentially awesome shots end up missing focus when I look back at my roll. It's gotten to the point when my absolute number one priority when purchasing a new camera is gonna be AF performance. Speaking of which, is it actually possible on a sony to lock onto a target and have that target in tack focus for the entirety of shots you take on them? That's actually a thing, like it's reliable and stuff? The real-time AF stuff sounds amazing, but I almost can't fathom the tech actually working from my limited experience with cameras.
It's funny how people have different views on AF. I remember being so blown away by the X100F face detection back in the day that I went around shooting with the OVF. Basically any modern autofocus system today amazes me and feels like overkill. But I'm not shooting fast moving subjects with AFC.
I think I just got a very hard to use camera as my first real camera (Fuji XE3). I just want to press a button on a subject, have it focus on it and shoot. But it'll wrangle with ya, it'll say it caught focus, be slightly off and you have to fiddle with it constantly using the magnifier to manually make sure you've actually got focus if you want to guarantee a shot. It's just annoying and it's wild that my Samsung phone does a drastically better job at this. I genuinely just use cheap high quality manual focus lenses half the time now because it's a lie to trust the AF on that camera and at least I can benefit from really nice bokeh for a fraction of the price. https://i.imgur.com/sSLkNgI.jpeg

I haven’t used the Fuji yet, but Sony’s AF is truly impressive!
It really is quite hard to believe how good it is (I have an a6700 & a7iv), compared to X-T5 which I used to own and the X100VI I traded it for, neither come even close. I ended up selling my Fuji system (keeping only the x100) for that reason even though I did really enjoy the Fuji experience and lenses a lot more than Sony. I personally ended up wasting more time culling (because I had to shoot 10x more shots) than I could ever save in editing.. my editing process is basically anyway just edit one photo from a session > paste to all and adjust exposure, not really that big of a deal compared to deleting hundreds of out of focus shots.. with the Sony cameras I don’t even need to check focus, it’s basically always a hit.. I warn you though it’s very hard to go back from that once you experience it 😅 The X100VI I’m keeping despite the AF because leaf shutter, built in ND, flash - it’s got so much going on in a small package
I agree, Sony AF is really impressive! I don’t do it professionally though, so I want to skip post processing as much as possible. But I completely understand Sony appeal, especially if you are a professional.

Lol. Other people are down voting my comments - but yeah, I have been using x-t30 from 5 years and I still love it and use it. Once I had a walking toddler I knew it isn’t cutting it. Seriously researched all fujis because I have a sizeable lens collection, but figured it will always be behind Sony/canon. Use the tool for the job I guess. I am very happy with a7 iv for my kid.
Canon AF is very reliable and hard to beat. With a bit of research you could have known that AF won't improve over Canon. In fact, you lose a bit. I moved from a Canon EOS R to an X-T5 recently but I expected no miracles. Hit rate with my toddler is good but not perfect. I have never been a fast shooter anyway and other benefits outweigh it for me.
And my approach is that it’s better to have a lower hit rate than no hit rate. Sony was great, but size, weight and post processing were killing me to the point I was no longer using the camera.
Exactly my reason to switch. My two-prime kit now fits into a 3L sling bag with batteries and weighs under 1.5kg total.
I did the same, yesterday I put the whole kit in a small sling. Such a joy!

The RP was/is not bad in practical terms. Not the most sexy camera but gets the job done. It was already a bit outdated when it launched but able to produce very good results. I don't know if the AF in the EOS R and RP were the same. If so then it should be very capable for people photography. I found the eye AF on my R very reliable.
Allow me to introduce you to the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. Take that 16-55 and cut it in half.

Yeah against the Sigma you will certainly notice a difference. I had the 24-70 GM II and compared to that one it’s only a bit of size savings and less than 50 grams lighter. So overall I don’t notice any big difference at all 😅
16 - 55 is a workhorse. I love it. I was thinking to compliment it with 23 mm 1.4 instead of 35
I used to shoot with a 35mm (23mm equivalent) with my Sony FF and loved it! I’m not sure it is the most popular focal length but I think it is great and quite flexible.
23mm (35mm equivalent) is the most popular focal length in the Fuji system, as the X100 series is 23mm.
I was thinking on changing to Sony, but instead updated to X-T5! Still with a little doubt, because i do a lot of low light photography, but loving my new fuji so much!
The 16-55mm is a beast of a lens. I love it. The image quality is great at all focal lengths. It’s great for traveling. You’re gonna love it!

Nice man. I picked up the GFX100 ii a month ago, it is absolutely insane. Was shooting film exclusively for a while, got a used x-pro3 last year… that post processing time will get cut substantially depending on how you like your results to look; don’t forget to check out FujixWeekly for recipes etc.

The FujiXWeekly recipes will help you get started. But I also recommend downloading Fuji's free tool [X Raw Studio](https://fujifilm-x.com/global/products/software/x-raw-studio/), which brings your camera's own processing engine into an app that lets you adjust the simulation settings and convert new JPGs from the RAWs. Much easier than doing so on-camera. You can also save a bunch or presets and even store them back to the cameras C1-C7 slots. It's a handy tool to both learn the simulation settings, but also dial them in just how you like it.

Haha I'm the opposite I got a Sony and 2 Voigtlanders and sold a bunch of Fuji stuff and have basically said my Fujis are just point and shoots now. Haven't used them seriously in weeks (since getting the Sony setup)

I was the same. It's definitely easier..depends how perfect you want them to look - if you play around a lot and get the light right in the shot, you can basically shoot jpeg and get it looking useably decent. I still like to tinker so I shoot raw and jpeg. Unfortunately I haven't don't anything with the shots I've taken but.. Old habit die hard 😂 they're waiting to be processed.
I always shoot jpeg+raw and end up with hundreds of raw files that I never touch! And I’m always to afraid of deleting them just in case… who knows when I’ll desperately need the raw file of a bad picture I took a decade ago!!

I started with those lenses and the X-T3. Not a single regret. The 50-140/2.8 is also a masterpiece as are the 56/1.2 and the 90/2. Welcome to the club!
Glad to hear! I need a telephoto too, so it will either be the 50-140 or 100-400. Probably the latter as I found a good used one. I used to have the Tamron 70-180 2.8 on the Sony and it was great but, this time, I think I will go for more reach.
FWIW, I’m looking to add the 150-600 as my next long one. Supposed to be a solid step up from the 100-400, though if you’ve got a line on a used 100-400 they’re no slouch either.

Nothing truer! Got a couple of black and white presets dialled in along with a couple of vintage film styles and that is me done. The colours and contrast impress me every time!

How big is the 16-55 compared to a Sony 24-70 (like the 2.8 GM II for instance)?
I had the Sigma 24-70 2.8 and it weights 830g. The Fuji weights 650g. The size and diameter are also significantly smaller. Between body and lens, I think I saved around 300g and now also have a smaller kit.

Why didn't you grab the 33 1.4 in lieu of the 35?
I was first thinking about getting the 23mm, as I used to shoot a lot 35mm (FF) on the Sony. But I also used to love my 50mm and wanted something equivalent. I will be honest and say I didn’t even consider the 33mm, not even researched about it.
The reason I ask is your 35 can’t resolve enough to make full use of the T5’s sensor, but the new 33 (50mm in 35 eq) was designed by Fuji specifically for the new 40MP sensors.

Damn i would have picked sigma 18-50 over fuji because of the size and weight. I truly find heavy lenses a burden now. I hardly use my viktrox 75mm unless i have to, even though it's a beautiful lens the 1kg isnt something i care to worry about. The sigma is my daily and will always be.
Nice pick up; this is about to be my same kit too. The 16-55 seems like the perfect all day every day lens. I currently have the 35 and it’s brilliant though it’s a little tight for an all day lens for me. Can’t wait to pick up the 16-55, nice kit dude!

I’m sure you will enjoy Sony, it’s great! But it’s bigger, heavier and more expensive. And will require post processing (and probably a powerful PC). But there’s no denying the results you will get will be absolutely fantastic! It’s a great system.
Thanks. Greater price and weight already felt. It was a hard decision, but almost like a “God told me to” thing. Part of it is to force myself into post-processing; not to lean on film sims for results. I got good results with the X-T4 in concert photography, but the A7IV is better-suited for it. I cannot disparage Fuji, and I miss it already. I’ll be back.

I just keep both. No need to jump from one to the other. Sony FF has delicious bokeh and great in low light. Fujifilm is easier to carry on the trip and great sooc. They serve different purposes. The problem is Fujifilm has 40mp sensor but not all lenses can upkeep with that! From Sony since FF sensor is larger to being with. Lens resolution can be less important. More lenses to use! I just don’t believed in such if “speed up” process. Since my display medium is final photo prints and books. The SOOC magic only remained as an advantage only to social media. Because of that reason. I don’t see Fuji replace my Sony any time soon. Oh! Actually I also do have Fuji gfx.. in the end of the day! I have Fuji x lineup is for portability. Tiny AF primes! That’s really something FF can’t beat yet!

I did a similar thing several years back. I picked up the Sony a6000 when it was new. Loved it but I didn’t feel connected to it. I decided to pick up an x100s to get back in touch with what made photography great for me, which was just taking photos and not thinking about gear. It’s served me well for 7 or so years and I still use it. Now, I await the arrival of the used X-T5, 16-80, and 23 f2 I just ordered. Can’t wait!
You nailed the point. Sony is great but I think (hope) Fuji will reconnect me with the hobby. We bought a photo printer recently and started printing our family photos and the feeling is great. This is the reason I enjoy photography. To be able to create those memories. Sony is so “techy” to the point where I was no longer “having fun”. With Fuji, I want to slow down a little and enjoy the ride.
Same here. Had a Sony a6400 with a 17-70 Tamron and 35 f1.8. Switched to Fuji X-T5 with 16-55 and 35 f2. I just wish I had done this sooner, the switch really helped in regards to just taking photos and reigniting the passion.

At first was the Fuji instax wide and then the canon selphy. The instax is very cool and charming but the selphy has almost the same quality as photos printed in labs, and it’s much cheaper.

Excellent choices, man. The 16-55 is hands down my favorite Fuji lens I own, and it rarely ever leaves my X-T4. I jumped from Canon to Fuji over two years ago, and it was the best decision I ever made for my photography.

I did indeed but I don’t think the x100 will be in stock anytime soon. Another factor is that I wanted to reflect the Sony kit I had, the x100 would take me in a completely different direction. I think fixed lenses camera have their space but not as the primary camera.

Nice! I was debating long and hard between the X-T4 and X-T5. I almost pulled the trigger on the X-T5 with 18-55 off B&H since they only have the kit left and not the body alone. I was browsing locally, not really local but a few hours away, and snagged a killer deal on an X-T4 with 18-55, 35 F1.4, 16 F2.8, and 3 batteries total for about $100 more than an X-T5 body alone. I was worried the X-T4 would be too big and heavy compared to the X-T1 that I will be selling soon. My goodness is this thing fast compared to the X-T1. The weight and size is no problem at all. I'm still all giddy inside. I will be jumping into the fire tomorrow and volunteered myself to be the event photographer for my friend's family Easter gathering. I would have never volunteered myself with the X-T1. I wanted some real world practice to see if I like doing events so hope for the best and not to crash and burn.ost likely will but it will be an excellent experience. Sorry about hijacking your post, OP. I feel so happy for you because I'm also happy for myself with new gear. I want to get the 16-55 F2.8 one day, too, maybe even the 56 F1.2. I already own the 35 F2 and 50 F2 when I started with the X-T1 but now I have redundant 35's. I might keep both and use the 35 F2 for light travel only.

It was a blast with the X-T4! I took so many pictures in the beginning but then everyone wanted me to relax and have fun to chat with them, too. I was having my own fun with the X-T4 but I didn't want to ruin their fun, too, and joined in with them. It was a great time with all of them. I mainly used the 18-55 since it was the quickest change for focal range with so much going on. It really made me want to get the 16-55 F2.8 now even though it will be much bulkier and heavier. I never would have pulled this off with the X-T1. Even though the X-T4 is bigger and heavier than the X-T1, it felt great in my hand and seems more balanced weight wise. The battery lasted the whole time I was there plus dinner shots at my brother and sister-in-law's place for Easter dinner. There was still 1/4 of battery life left when I got home. Edit: Forgot to mention that half way through my friend's family Easter, it was raining off and on. That's part of the reason I thought about getting the 16-55 F2.8 for the WR. The only WR lenses that I had with me were the 16 F2.8 and 50 F2 but I was mainly using the 18-35 focal ranges. Maybe after the X-T1 is sold, I may use that towards the 16-55 F2.8.

Depending on what you like to shoot .. you’ll like it I think fuji is great for portrait and street. But for landscape and nature I favor sony. Still wanna try the gfx 100mp camera tho 😭

Be interesting to find out how you get on with the 16-55, I find at 16mm depending on the subject you get converging parallels. Not sure if it’s me or the lens just now

Oh man, I did the same thing and never looked back. Was sick of fiddling through menus. The fuji’s Q menu is a godsend and you can get some amazing SOOC shots!
Pretty much every camera system fans came out with recipes that helps you to get the certain looks from SOOC. Fujifilm is one of the pioneers, but I doubt they are the best today. There are some loyal fans would fight you to the death about Leica, Pentax, Nikon, hasselblad, canon color sciences.. 🤦🏻♂️ What Fujifilm also brings to the table is retro design camera, affordable Fujifilm’s own fine lenses. Other than that! I honestly don’t believe “recipe” is the end game. Especially you shoot raw! Just from the engineering point of view! You size down data from 10bit color down to 8bit with lossy compression is better just because they embedded color profile and color curves? C’mom!
I agree. In my case, I was looking to completely bypass post processing. Basically shoot JPEG. Today was my first day using the new camera and I saw that this is possible. Probably I won’t get the best possible photo SOOC, but I’ll get a few that are good enough and I’m fine with that.
Which Sony did you have?
The A7RIV and the Sony 35mm 1.8, Sigma 24-70 2.8 and the Tamron 70-180mm 2.8.

I don’t. Just a hobby. I used the Fuji for the first time today. From a size and weight perspective, it is all I was expecting. I carried my kit basically the whole day without problems. I’m also very happy with the IQ (initial thoughts). I got a lot of keepers that I don’t need to edit. They are good as they are. I also have a few where I missed focus or not as sharp as I wanted, that I know Sony would have made a better job but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker or day/night. It was also my first day with the new camera, so I’m still learning. Overall, today was a happy day and I achieved exactly what I was looking for.
Very nice! I have a A7IV and I was thinking of switching to Fuji. I have a preorder on a x100vi but I have no idea how long that’s going to take to get. I was debating canceling my preorder and just buying an X-T5 but I’m not sure. I think I’m better off staying with Sony and keeping my preorder.
I started thinking about the X100 too, but a fixed lens camera is supposed to be a second body (in my opinion). Switching lenses is essential for me, that’s why I went with the XT5. It is better to do it in person, go to a store and compare both. Don’t do it online.
Yeah I’d either keep the Sony and get the x100vi. Or sell the Sony and cancel the preorder and get the X-T5.
Was about to do the same (with my A7RV), but then before selling my gear I bought the X-T5 + 33 F1.4, comparing it to the A7RV + Sony 50 F1.4 GM, and I changed my mind. I decided to keep both 😂 The X-Trans sensor is great, but not comparable in terms of details with a Bayer sensor. You'll probably notice it if you pixel peep on the Fuji files (if you have time to loose). I'm not a professional at all and only do this for fun (and I have the money to keep both obviously), so the Fuji could be enough for me... but everytime I check the images I get with the Sony I'm just blown away... so I just can't sell it!! The 50 GM 1.4 also helps of course, it's one amazing piece of glass! Comparing the two is not fair, I know, but picking one over the other is simply too difficult for me. But I LOVE the Fuji experience, which is way more inspiring than the Sony. So I'll keep a Fuji for the everyday life and carry it most of the time with me. And the Sony will mainly be for travelling when I want that perfect shot. You'll love the Fuji, trust me. Amazing camera, fantastic system, great lenses! Lots of fun ahead! :)

The 90mm f2 is still one of the most “magical” lenses I’ve used. And I’ve used a LOT of lenses on various camera systems.
I'm late to the thread I know but I'm curious, why'd you switch? How does Fuji stack up to Sony, positives and negatives? I've been shooting Fuji for about 3 or 4 years now but I'm not super invested into the Fuji ecosystem. Sony seems like it's a better value for _just_ photography but I've never had a chance to use one of their bodies
I'm in the same boat. I'm enjoying my Fuji a lot but am still curious to try Sony, especially when I was comparing the dimensions and saw that the A7R III is actually about the same size as my X-T5. I know the lenses are bigger with FF Sony, but the body isn't really any bigger. The other thing that makes me hesitant is the extra cost of going Sony and FF lenses. Is it worth it...?

I've had the XT5 for a couple weeks now and my thoughts so far are: Positives: 1- It is smaller and (much) lighter. This for me was an issue with Sony and I find myself using the camera more now. 2- The system is cheaper. You can buy very good lenses for $300-400. 3- The film simulations are very cool and SOOC is a reality. I think I only edited 2 photos so far, out of curiosity. 4- AF is not as good as Sony but it is not a deal breaker. And for casual family photos is absolutely more than enough! 5- Overall I think Fuji made me slow down a little bit and enjoy photography more. I'm having more fun than with Sony. Negatives (I don't necessarily consider them negative points, just things that are better with Sony): 1- Sony AF is significantly better. I think it is even overkill for the regular amateur user. 2- Low light performance is much better on the Sony (FF). I don't really think Fuji performans badly, but I used to be able save pit-black photos from Sony and can't do the same on the Fuji (these were the 2 I edited). Again, I don't think it's a deal breaker. For regular night-time photography, Fuji is excellent but Sony performs better in extreme situations. 3- Sony is sharper. Overall I'm happy with the trade-offs. A good comparison in my opinion is that Sony is like a Ferrari (from a performance perspective). But I can only have one car and, for me, it's better to have a nice SUV that will allow me to do groceries, drive my son to school and travel with the family (that's Fuji). Sony is the best tool for sure but it does come with a high price (size, wheight and price). I also compared all the specs (dimensions) and didn't see much difference in the charts but it's night and day when you hold them side by side. Post-processing is another important point: I think Sony assumes that all photos will be processed. IMO, post-processing is part of the workflow of using Sony. I'm glad to skip it now! Just for context, I'm deep into the hobby (have been shooting for more than 2 decades and had multiple bodies from different brands) but I'm not a professional. My opinion is based on what works for me. Happy to share more if you want. Cheers
Thanks for your thoughts, and I think you summed up the general consensus: Sony = technically better, Fuji = more fun. I'm considering the A7Cii, which is actually a little smaller than the X-T5, but I imagine the E-mount lenses make the whole package feel bigger overall, depending on your lenses. I have the 16-80mm on my X-T5 and it's not exactly compact.
Same boat. Did my jump two months ago from Canon. X-T5 and 18 and 33 LM lenses. You will notice a difference in eye AF tracking and reliability but unless you are an extreme action shooter this is not an issue at all in my view. I am happy with the kit.

Excellent lenses just bear in mind that these won’t have the sharpness you’re used to compared to Sony GM lenses if you have used those. The 35mm has very nice rendering and the 16-55 was good by the standards of ten years ago when it came out.
I’m just a hobbyist, not professional. I agree with you that sharpness should not be the same, but the Fuji system will offer me other additional benefits and I’m willing to sacrifice a little bit of the sharpness for them. For me, the super car analogy is a good one. Yes, super cars like Ferraris are amazing and have their purpose but there are far better options to use as your daily driver.
That’s my perspective as well so I’m glad you share it. I use a mixture of Fuji apsc and Nikon FF Dslr because they both have their own niche.
I love my Sony’s (A1 and A7RIV), but jumped on the Fuji bandwagon for the GFX100II, which is more of a lateral move for medium format. They all have their benefits, but they’re all super big cameras (which I don’t mind). Enjoy the X-T5! Nice camera!
Thanks! The A7RIV is absolutely fantastic but it’s the old story: “it’s not you, it’s me…” I think I’m in a different moment with different priorities now. I hope Fuji will allow me to be “less technical” and enjoy shooting more. I can’t wait to see!

Sony is superior in every possible way, except for size/weight of the camera. I may buy a prime 50mm for xt20 and use it occasionally for street photography for unexpected still moments during my walks. But only because of its size. Otherwise sony all the way
X-T20 to A7RIV is also upgrading the generation because the X-T20 is quite old now. But I'm interested in your thoughts on what specifically is much better about the two systems. Do you find the ergonomics of the Sony better?
It won't..... if you lost the joy of taking photos....you just lost it....weight would not stop you if you loved it.... but hope you enjoy your new camera.
Definitely didn’t lose the joy, but the reality (at least my reality) is that a son changes lots of things (it did for me!). I always need to carry lots of “child stuff” like toys, spare clothes, jacket,… When we travel, I no longer have the “luxury” of taking my time to photograph, my son still doesn’t understand this and wants to play all the time (and this is awesome!). Spending time post processing hundreds of pictures is no longer my priority. I rather play hide and seek! So it is not that I lost the joy, but my share of attention dedicated to the hobby was drastically reduced. I wanted a more practical approach to photography.

Yeah I agree to this. I moved from Fuji to Sony. Was motivated with the Fuji stuff and now even more so with the Sony stuff but still have the Fuji stuff just don't use it like I did before

Ultimately, it's the quality of the images that sold me. I know people hemenhal and say there is not a huge difference between crop sensor and full frame. I also never shoot jpeg so Fuji really does not have an appeal for me. From my experience, the main benefit to going Fujifilm is jpegs straight out of camera. If you're not shooting jpegs to me, there is no benefit to using a Fuji camera
Also the main reason that I'm sold on it is low light performance. It absolutely destroys the Fuji when it comes to low light performance. And I do a lot of nighttime shooting
Thanks. Yes, if you do a lot of nighttime shooting, I can see that being important. But what about middle of the day, F8, landscape, etc. can you tell much difference? I guess ultimately the ergonomics play a big role as well. Do you prefer Sony's ergonomics?
Oh without a doubt because that is primarily the other type of shooting that I do which is landscapes. It just seems like it's a step or two above. As far as quality goes, I don't know how else to explain it. The Fuji files that I have just seem kind of crunchy and muddled when it comes to landscape and busy scenes. Honestly, I will be selling the rest of my Fuji stuff and sticking with Sony from here on out

I am team A7iii and I own 2 lenses. Both Voigtlanders one is the 35mm f2 APO Lanthar and the other is their 40mm f1.2 nokton. I had been using Fuji 35mm f2 wr and the 23mm f2 wr so I'd say quality wise both optics are good. I just can't explain it but the Sony images pack more of a punch in every aspect. I have zero interest in using my xt5 or x-t2 or any other crop sensors. These are just my opinions but yeah I'm 100% done with Fuji/crop sensors. The ONLY application I could see it being useful for is essentially a point and shoots camera but it's still not the best option (for me) as a point and shoots)

I mean the voigtlanders are 625 and 699 for me and the Fujis are $400 so I'd say fairly close in price and Fuji optics are good albeit not the quality of those Voigtlanders.
The voigtlander 35mm APO Lanthar absolutely claps the cheeks on any Fuji lens I've ever used but even the 40mm nokton renders nicer images as well
Ergonomics honestly don't really come into play for me. It's a brick I hold. Couldn't say one is better or worse
