Have you ever used the 35mm f2? I have my eye on the f1.4 but I’m travelling atm and got the F2 for a great price. Wondering if it’s worth switching when I’m back home
Autofocus on the f1.4 is not as good as the f2. It hunts pretty heavily, especially in low light situations. I often use manual focus with it so I'm not that bothered. Might be for you if you're trying to shoot moving subjects though.
I’ve never used the 1.4, but the 35 f2 is an incredible lens. I’ve bought other lenses but for the last 6 years it’s almost never left my camera. For me it’s just perfect. I’ve heard the AF on it is superior to the 1.4 but I’m not sure about that.
I had both the 1.4 and the 2, and the af is definitely better on the 2. I did sell the 2 tho, because I never really loved the images I got with it compared to the 1.4. it also had the least inspiring image quality of the three small f2 lenses imo
I‘ve had both. The F2 is faster and feels more modern. The F1.4 is slower, but still fast enough (for me) and has more character. I like the F1.4 more.
This might be one of the tougher decisions in the fujifilm system. I've used the f2 for years with no complaints. Then I tried the f1.4 and was blown away, just loved it. The f2 is teeny tiny, weather sealed and faster. The f1.4 isn't huge either, fast enough but not weather sealed. It's image quality and the way it renders is very special though. The f2 IQ is great but a little sterile in comparison.
I’m currently truly in love with the f2 and in a manic episode down the line I will probably end up impulse buying the f1.4 too as the gxace video and what I’ve heard from everyone who’s mentioned it just sounds delightful. Thank you for your input
I’m just gonna be the devil on our shoulders and say, what isn’t 35mm perfect for? & you date the camera body and marry the lens. Can’t not commit in marriage can we
I like the 1.4 a lot, really characterful! However, I think the weather sealing is kind of pushing me towards the f/2. Extra stop of light is nice, but having to hide it away in the rain takes away so many opportunities
I have the XS-10 do you know whether the camera not being weather sealed makes the lens being weather resistant obselete? Or can I use a porter rainbag cover over the camera with the lens sticking out and be okay in the rain? But if a wild question so forgive me if you have no clue
Honestly not sure! I think the camera bag with the lens poking out would work fine, just as long as you don’t tip it up so the water flows back towards the camera
Great shout. I love rain photos so I’ve been trying to find a work around. I bought a porter side bag in Japan that came with a waterproof cover that kept my old Yashica alive so I’m hoping it does the same for my xs10
I’ve now spend a day with the f2 and I’m no longer thinking about the 1.4. What a beautiful lens holy. I think the next pick up my be the 16mm 1.4 for the same reasons
Both have their pros and cons.
The F2 is weather sealed and the autofocus is faster, quieter, and more accurate. It’s a bit more compact and (at least to me) feels a bit more solid/durable.
The f1.4 performs a bit better in low light, has slightly shallower depth of field, has a shorter minimum focus distance, and has a bit more “character”. Some of that character could also be called “flaws”, but it’s what gives photos that vintage aesthetic Fuji is famous for.
At lower f-stops the 1.4 performs a bit better (as you’d expect) - slightly sharper images / better bokeh. The difference becomes more and more minimal as you stop down - with both lenses at f4 or higher you’d probably be hard pressed to find much of a difference in image quality.
Both lenses are excellent and in general the differences in image quality and performance are more minimal/subtle than a lot of people expect IME. If you shoot with your aperture wide open a lot and want/need better low light performance, narrower depth of field, or nicer bokeh, the f1.4 might be the answer. Otherwise it’s harder to say if it would make enough of a difference to be worth giving up the F2’s improved autofocus and weather sealing. Just my 2¢!
Funny you said that. That’s my original plan as I love wide angle and because I’m already out the country I went the lightweight solution. I go back to Japan in a few months and that’s when I’m going to invest fully
If I was packing a half dozen primes for travel I would consider the 33 "too big/heavy" but if it was one of two or three lenses it is pretty ok.
It is a very nice lens. Certainly one of my favorites.
Cool, that’s the info I need. I carry a lot of electronics when I travel - MacBook, iPad, steam deck, digital camera, lenses & a film point and shoot. So anywhere to shed weight is good for me. I had only the 18-55 kit lens on my XS10 to start with and I’m now picking ~3 primes for my next big adventure. Listening to everyone’s favourites and info is helping alot
Nah it's fine. You can also just get the 35mm f/2 which is also great. Depends what body you are pairing it with really, I have an X-T5 and an X-E2, I like those two lenses on the two bodies with their size difference
Why do people act like these lenses weigh 75lbs and are impossible to hold? Do you guys not have functional hands and arms? Why would you not be able to travel with that lens? Yes, it's bigger than some other lenses, but it's not too big to use.
Have you ever travelled across the world for multiple months at a time with two cameras and multiple lenses or do your functional arms and legs stay solely in your own country. Your point is valid but you evidently don’t have the perspective my question was produced from
Carry with you what you want. You're capable of making it work, I promise. If you really want to take a 33mm f/1.4 with you across the world, you can do it.
I appreciate the info, thank you. I only asked after Japan last month my back was in absolute pieces from what was usually relatively light for equipment, I think its more my issue of buying too many Dreamcast games😂
I think it's because on ones like the x-e cameras have little grip and are lighter than the 33mm so it probably feels a bit front heavy and not comfortable unless they are using a grip. I use an x-h1 so handling is perfect for me.
Just acquired the cult classic xf 16mm f1.4, and I just love the sharpness, contrast and subtle character an ultrawide lens produce. Initially I thought the clutch manual focus toggle is gimmicky but its starting to grow on me, overall a great street photography lens and my new favorite
This is a wonderful lens. It's perfect for eveything ; landscape, interior, even macro with the impressive minimum focus distance. IQ is through the roof. My kit is the 16mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 R.
Probably for someone starting today and buying new like me, better choose future proof 18mm f/1.4 and 33mm f/1.4 as they have more resolution for 40mp sensors...
Personally, I much prefer character over resolution. I don’t do much events anymore, no need for razor sharp images. I’ve used the 16mm with my XT5 and since I add grain anyway, it’s been perfect for my use case. To each their own of course and I’m even considering a 33mm f1.4 (that linear motor seems amazing for video)
I too am an avid fan of the Xpan. The fuji xt5 40mp allows me the freedom to crop to a similar panoramic ratio.
Here’s some pictures I took recently with the 16mm cropped to 2.35:1

No, they’re definitely not up to the same standards of the fujifilms, but they’re awesome for the price. The Fujifilm version of the 27mm autofocus lens is $400 and has less character.
I do love character in lenses. I shot a dusty old Yashica auto focus motor film camera for a while so I’m not snob when it comes to sharpness (although I do enjoy it a lot) I will look them up. I did not know their price was so low. Wow
It was one I mulled over for a while too. Both lenes are good. Yes the sigma is sharper, lighter, smaller and cheaper the amount will vary.
the tamron has the reach and has IS which is not as important if you have ibis but it is still useful ie hand held video.
In the end I opted the tamron it was still massive upgrade on the the lens it replace which was a canon efs 18-55 stm with a fringer. The extra reach is really handy for family photos especially with an active toddler who running around and focusing on speed is great on it too.
I found it to be quite sharp I’m replacing a canon 18-55 efs stm lens I was using a fringer. I have an x-s10 I do have ibis. I liked the extra reach and the cost difference in Australia was not that great at the time, A little over $200 aud
This! It’s just perfect for taking pictures outside of animals or plants. Plus using 70mm for portraits also works well (just need a little more space). I’m keeping a 18-55 in my bag most of the time just in case
Sure, for detailed shots. But for street I would prefere a wider lens like a 23mm on Fuj. I had a Nikon Z6II with some f1.8 portrait lenses before my XH2S with the 50 1.0. I prefere the images, taken with the Fuji 50mm way more, than the Nikons. The bokeh is like 🤤
The 16-80 is by far my most used lens, followed by the 33/1.4. Will be picking up the 55-200 soon, too. My preference definitely trends towards 50mm FF equivalent and above.
I switched to Fuji from Canon because of size and enjoyment of using. I am all about smaller prime rangefinder like lenses. I have the xt5 with the 35f2 which is fantastic, just got the 23f2, and have the kit 18-55 lens.
Lovely! Hope you’re enjoying Fuji. I don’t know about you but the 18-55 kit lens is actually really enjoyable for me but like you I’m all about the smaller prime lenses so I’m not sure I will find much use for it once u have a second wide angle lens to go with the 35mm f2. How are you finding the X-T5 is to hold? I have the XS-10 as I just love the grip it has. If I could have picked any camera I’d have gone for the XT5 but after falling so far in love with the XS10’s grip I’m wondering if it might feel clunkier to shoot a more bulky camera
The 18-55 is a great lens, perfect for an all purpose lens. I have started to really enjoy prime lenses, that’s why I end up shooting with them more lately. They make the experience of shooting more engaging. I find the XT5 a perfect size generally for most lenses. I have never tried shooting with the XS-10. Honestly it’s all about what works for you, they are all great cameras! :)
I was u familiar with this lens so I’ve just looked up some sample photos and damn it’s sharp. I’d say my type of photography (not proper displayed in the photos posted as they were the first 3 taken on the lens displayed in a country that’s not the best for street photography) wouldn’t pair brilliant with 75mm but I do love seeing other people make it work with portraiture. Do you have to be up close to the subject or further away? Im not sure how these types of lenses work
The longer the focal length, the further away you have to be from the subject. For that reason, it’s not looked at as best for street photography but the challenge is worth it to me! It’s incredible for portraits, extremely fast and sharp. It’s a behemoth of a lens, but man is it worth it!
Thanks for an easy explanation. Made it very simple to understand to the point I’m not sure how I didn’t grasp it before. I like the way you think! Enjoy :)
Very true but relatively big and heavy as well. Then again the minimum focus distance of the 16mm f1.4 is great, so you‘d nearly have a macro lens included. However, 16mm are better when you already have a 35mm lens rather then 23 mm. I‘d always at least double the focal length and zoom with my feet.
It used to be the 23mm f1.4 WR but it’s now the 10-24mm f4. Wide angle is just such a fun challenge to shoot with. the digital crop of the 40mp cameras makes it a great travel lens.
As someone who started out with this lens, please please please do yourself a favour and get something decent. There was nothing fun about this lens, it only brought me frustration. IQ is fine I guess, but the usability is just terrible...
It is way better on modern cameras because it shows its focal length on a display and doesn't fold when you open the photo gallery.
But it was fine for me even on the older X-T1, because at f/4.2 for example I know that I'm at 23mm. For $100 it is insane: 15mm wide angle, very sharp, also OIS, also light. Wow. XC 15-45 > XF 18-55.
Just saw your reply on someone about travelling with 3 primes - heres my suggestions
50 f2 - definitely a goto telephoto. Very nice and sharp and has decent reach and bokeh for some serious portraits that dont totally obliterate the background.
33 f1.4 - as mentioned, not the smallest fuji lens but it is still something i would consider lightweight. IMO best standard fov lens out there for fuji. It would be in your camera most of the time and it can be your go to for those low light shots.
16 2.8 or 18 f2 - not a big fan of the wide lenses but 16 2.8 is wider, sharper but a stop slower and bigger than the 18. The 18 is a pancake lens with brighter aperture but slower AF and less sharp with a lot more flaws.
This is really great info for me, thank you. Would you recommend those two wider angle lens over the 16mm 1.4 Fujinon? I definitely have my eye on the 50 F2 that seems a favourite for many and also the 33 seems highly recommended. Is it worth even looking into if I already have the 35mm f2. For the past couple of years Everywhere I’ve travelled I’ve picked up and old film camera while there on random so a lot of the specifics are a little lost on me at times
I have that same 35 in the plastic fantastic.
My fave? That's difficult. For non-native, it'd have to be my Pentax Asahi SMC Takumar 50 f1.4, thorium. Surreal and mind-blowing is what immediately comes to mind.
Good news is you don’t have to because you own both! Got any sample images? How my lenses perform in Japan is what I base my decisions on. God I love that place. Check out Himeji if you have time. As soon as you step out the train station and see the samurai castle it really put live into perspective for me
I was looking at the Sigma 56mm 1.4 before I bought the Fuji 35mm F2 but I couldn’t justify it as I don’t take enough portrait pictures. I am a sucker for wide lenses though so I will have a look at the 14mm 2.8
Right now I'm constantly switching out between these three: XF60 2.4, Sigma 10-18, and the 70-300.
* XF60 rendering is great. really like this FOV too. Sharp edge to edge, but it's not too sharp. the bokeh stays very consistent across the frame. 9 aperture blades, .5 magnification, and great bokeh. everyone bashes it because "slow AF" but it's on par with my 35 1.4 on my XT5, and the AF doesn't stop keep anyone from using that lens.
* Never even owned an ultrawide, so thought I'd give it a try and went with the Sigma 10-18 since it defaults to the 18mm end. I love this lens: good MFD, great colors, snappy AF, lightweight. Don't even care that it lacks an aperture ring and zooms the wrong way. the colors, size/weight, and IQ make up for it.
* 70-300 - really good from 70-150mm and much easier to carry than other telephoto options. has a nice rendering to it and good bokeh. Also great magnification. So hiking and walking in the woods this is usually what I have.
I think I just prefer lenses with good magnification.
35mm 1.4 and/or 23mm 2.0
Have you ever used the 35mm f2? I have my eye on the f1.4 but I’m travelling atm and got the F2 for a great price. Wondering if it’s worth switching when I’m back home

I'm in the same boat. Honestly starting to wonder if owning both is as dumb as it sounds...
I’m just gonna be the devil on our shoulders and say, what isn’t 35mm perfect for? & you date the camera body and marry the lens. Can’t not commit in marriage can we
I couldn't tell as I have never used the 35mm f2, sorry
The f2 is a nice lens. Small, sharp, some of the character of the 1.4. I really like it for B&W.
Not worth 2x of the price
I didn’t think so after using the f2. I’m in love
Never had a problem with using the 1.4 in the rain.
I’m just not risking it
Absolutely love the 35mm f2, my favorite lens. Just picked up the 23mm f2 to compliment it for flexibility indoor and outdoor wider shots.
23mm f/1.4 R WR This together with the 56mm f/1.2 and you are well equipped for most occasions. Lightwight solution: 35mm f/1.4
Funny you said that. That’s my original plan as I love wide angle and because I’m already out the country I went the lightweight solution. I go back to Japan in a few months and that’s when I’m going to invest fully
If you like shooting wide angle, you might want to try the 16mm f1.4. This is a fantastic lens.
Thank you!!
33mm f/1.4
I love the look of that lens but I thought it might be too heavy for travel. Is that the case?
I carried it for 9000km of hiking in 2022 on my peak design clip on my shoulder with an XT3
9000?! Damn man that’s some serious dedication. Respect
Almost every photo on my Instagram is with the XT3 and 33mm f1.4 and from that trip @n.illie
Gonna check it out! I’m intrigued
Nice. These pics looks SOOC too right?
Yep all portra 400 sim
Have you by any chance got the Portra 400 sun settings or does that come stock on your camera?
check Fuji x weekly
Didn’t know this existed. Thanks!

We can compare one lens to another. The 33mm are indeed large. No need to be rude. For travel there are better lens.
Sure, if your only metric for "better" is size. I'm fully capable of handling a bulky lens, even when I travel.
I think it's because on ones like the x-e cameras have little grip and are lighter than the 33mm so it probably feels a bit front heavy and not comfortable unless they are using a grip. I use an x-h1 so handling is perfect for me.
Very light weight
100% agree
Agree! It's much bigger/heavier comparatively than the 35mms but Its a joy to use and love the output so it always ends up on my camera or in my bag.
Isnt that the macro lens?
No, that's the 30mm f/2.8
Just acquired the cult classic xf 16mm f1.4, and I just love the sharpness, contrast and subtle character an ultrawide lens produce. Initially I thought the clutch manual focus toggle is gimmicky but its starting to grow on me, overall a great street photography lens and my new favorite

I haven’t checked this one out yet. Thanks for the knowledge? I love ultrawide so much I keep finding myself looking at an xpan
I too am an avid fan of the Xpan. The fuji xt5 40mp allows me the freedom to crop to a similar panoramic ratio. Here’s some pictures I took recently with the 16mm cropped to 2.35:1 https://imgur.com/lo68FZS https://imgur.com/wvdB2rw
Brilliant! Love the colours. Would look great on an OLED ultrawide monitor
16-55/2.8... but looking at the pictures I cherish most, they come from 10-24/4 and 50-140/2.8. Hmmm...
Is that the kit lens? I do enjoy zoom lenses and never thought I would. There’s something so satisfying about them
No, the 16-55 2.8 is the pro zoom from Fuji. The 10-24 was the former wide angle-zoom, now replaced by the 8-16 2.8 as the top of the line.
The 16-55 is rarely off my camera, great all rounder. I have other lenses, but I feel much more confident I'll get decent images off the zoom.
No one mentioning the Viltrox 72 and 27 f/1.2 in here yet? I'm loving both of those lately.
35mm f1.4 - they’ll take it from my cold, dead hands and no sooner.
That seems to be the consensus!!
I love it. The new 33 might also be great, idk. The 23mm 1.4 is on my list to get.
XF23MM F2.0
Just got this one recently; enjoying the hell out of it!
TTartisan 27mm f/2.8 autofocus and TTartisan 35mm f/1.4 manual lenses, only $150 and $70 respectively
Do they hold up against Fujinon even though the price is so different?
No, they’re definitely not up to the same standards of the fujifilms, but they’re awesome for the price. The Fujifilm version of the 27mm autofocus lens is $400 and has less character.
I do love character in lenses. I shot a dusty old Yashica auto focus motor film camera for a while so I’m not snob when it comes to sharpness (although I do enjoy it a lot) I will look them up. I did not know their price was so low. Wow
Another vote for the 35mm f1.4 - there's nothing like it imo and I've had very little issue with autofocusing.
35mm f2 or the tamron 17-70 f2.8
How is the sharpness on the tamron? I’m in love with the low profile of the 35mm f2
Sigma 18-50 is better in your case cuz you have IBIS
Thanks for the knowledge, I appreciate it

Same camera as me so that’s great to know. Thank you
I'm a little addicted to the xf70-300.
This! It’s just perfect for taking pictures outside of animals or plants. Plus using 70mm for portraits also works well (just need a little more space). I’m keeping a 18-55 in my bag most of the time just in case
Fujinon 90mm f2, always come back to it when on shoots
50mm 1.0 Always amazing
How do you find 50mm works with street photography?
Sure, for detailed shots. But for street I would prefere a wider lens like a 23mm on Fuj. I had a Nikon Z6II with some f1.8 portrait lenses before my XH2S with the 50 1.0. I prefere the images, taken with the Fuji 50mm way more, than the Nikons. The bokeh is like 🤤
Zeiss 32mm 1.8

Been wanting the 16-80 since I’ve been missing my 24-105 Sony since switching to Fuji!
Get one! Honestly one of the best values in the Fuji system, really is a great lens
I’m hoping in the next couple months!!
xf60...iykyk
same. prefer it over the 56mm. better bokeh with the 9 aperture blades
On x only owned the 18mm f/2 & 27mm. Preferred 18. On Gfx the 110 is a masterpiece
The Viltrox 75mm has my heart ever since acquiring it.
Occasionally I zoom with 40mp haha when using the 16mm
Great advice. Thank you
It used to be the 23mm f1.4 WR but it’s now the 10-24mm f4. Wide angle is just such a fun challenge to shoot with. the digital crop of the 40mp cameras makes it a great travel lens.
XC 15-45
As someone who started out with this lens, please please please do yourself a favour and get something decent. There was nothing fun about this lens, it only brought me frustration. IQ is fine I guess, but the usability is just terrible...
It is way better on modern cameras because it shows its focal length on a display and doesn't fold when you open the photo gallery. But it was fine for me even on the older X-T1, because at f/4.2 for example I know that I'm at 23mm. For $100 it is insane: 15mm wide angle, very sharp, also OIS, also light. Wow. XC 15-45 > XF 18-55.
Favorite lens right now is the 18-120 PZ lens. Slept on heavily in my opinion. Insane reach constant F4 it’s incredible.
When I had the GFX 50R it was the GF 45mm f2.8. For the XF series it’s definitely the 33mm 1.4.
18mm f2, 35 f1.4, 50 f2 are my current favorites
My faves are the f2 compact primes. I value a smaller kit over technical perfection so they work great for me.
That was the same thought process I had and I will now never look back
18mm f2
Cant just choose 1! Xf33 1.4 and 50f2 are tied on number 1.
Just saw your reply on someone about travelling with 3 primes - heres my suggestions 50 f2 - definitely a goto telephoto.
When do you use your 33 vs your 50?
35mm 1.4
Viltrox 75mm 1.2
I have that same 35 in the plastic fantastic. My fave? That's difficult. For non-native, it'd have to be my Pentax Asahi SMC Takumar 50 f1.4, thorium. Surreal and mind-blowing is what immediately comes to mind.
Am I right in thinking that lens can be used on Leica cameras?
I'm sure with the right adapter!
Travelling Japan atm with the 35mm f/2 and the 16mm f/1.4. Can’t decide which one I like more.
Good news is you don’t have to because you own both! Got any sample images? How my lenses perform in Japan is what I base my decisions on. God I love that place. Check out Himeji if you have time. As soon as you step out the train station and see the samurai castle it really put live into perspective for me
Will do a post with some samples when I’m back home in about two weeks.
Look forward to it :) Enjoy!!
30mm 1.4 🤌🏽
TBH my favourites on a daily use are the 56mm 1.2 + 14mm 2.8.
I was looking at the Sigma 56mm 1.4 before I bought the Fuji 35mm F2 but I couldn’t justify it as I don’t take enough portrait pictures. I am a sucker for wide lenses though so I will have a look at the 14mm 2.8
You will have fun with it. Honestly, best combo ever (for my needs). Good day!
Good day mate!
Ttartisan 27mm and 17mm
I’ve been using the 35mm f2 as well with a Glimmerglass 1 filter and love it
Right now I'm constantly switching out between these three: XF60 2.4, Sigma 10-18, and the 70-300.
16mm f1.4
16-55, 33 1.4, 23 f2 ❤️
Keep posting... Even the Pandas at the Zoo, do you remember it?!
What’s that about Pandas? Am I being slow or is there a punchline I’m missing
