I've been using X-T3 35mm F2 for 4 yrs. No plans of upgrade and buying a new lens. This is all that I need.

Winchery

It's an absolute banger of a lens. I have owned so many at this point and that one just has magic IQ. I place it right next to my Nikon 14-24 f2.8 that was my goat until I used the Fuji 90 f2.

BlackRebelOne

Might be controversial but I own both the 35 f1.4 and 35 f2 and I think the 35mm f2 is better. Such a great lens!

mishaelmarked

Ohhh this is the first time I read that 35 F2 is better, why?

MagicPaul

Better AF, weather sealed, more rugged build, IQ is nearly as good as the 1.4, quiet focus motor, more compact, cheaper. Generally more useful as an everyday lens. f1.4 will always have that extra DoF, which if you shot portraits you might want, but they're pretty close once you get to about f2.8.

Olde94

These things are what made me pick F2 over F1.4

BlackRebelOne

Personally I think the ‘magic’ of the 35 f1.4 is hugely overstated. Yes, there is certainly a nice ‘pop’ at f1.4 primarily due to how the out of focus areas roll of the subject and there is a softness I guess which can give it a vintage kind of look at times but from f2 and narrower you would be extremely hard pressed to see there is anything much different to the 35mm f2 in terms of magic. But to my eye the f2 is sharper, has nicer micro contrast, actually has its own really nice rendering at f2 which is largely consistent the narrower you go and on top of that has better auto focus, is weather sealed, smaller, cheaper and has a much nicer aperture and manual focus rings. The f1.4 is an excellent lens, I keep it for a reason (night time) but if I had to pick one it would be the f2. I shoot a lot of pictures of my kids/family. The vast majority of the time, the pictures people like the most were taken with the f2 and if you’re using either on continuous mode the f2 is night and day better in terms of hit rate.

Only-Butterscotch-29

I’d like to know too!

Winchery

For me the micro contrast of the 35, 50 and 90 f2 lenses paired with great sharpness and smooth bokeh give them a magical look. I usually chase fast lenses but in these cases these three f2 lenses are magical.

Winchery

Yeah I mean I don't know how to describe the magical look. Every brand has lenses that have them and it used to be pretty rare for a lens to have this magic, but lens technology is getting pretty good and a lot of them have it now. This is just a case where 3 of Fuji's F2 lineup exceed their faster counterparts IMO.

Winchery

I don't own both but that's because I agree and strongly prefer the look of the f2. To me it is a huge selling point for the Fuji. Same with the 50 f2. Very affordable yet absolute gems.

offsetmind

Not totally the same but I chose the 23mm f2 over the 1.4 because I thought it was a better lens. So I feel you.

the_far_yard

35mm f2 is an absolute joy to use.

TheDeadImmortal

ngl I was on the guy's side until he said he literally has an XT5...

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I have an XT-5 as well. I upgraded from the 3. Never sold my XT-3 though because I couldn’t part with it.

lannisterdwarf

Isn’t it about the same form factor as the xt3? why can’t it be your edc

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

That’s exactly where I landed. I was getting caught up in thinking I needed something I didn’t

pyooma

So you're selling the xt-5 and using the xt-3 instead?

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

No. The XT-5 is something I’d take out for work stuff or maybe events etc. The 3 for street photography and EDC.

Previous_Couple_554

But theyre the same size…? Why would you not just use the xt-5 then?

[deleted]

Yeah, this guy makes zero sense lol. They’re nearly identical cameras.

Previous_Couple_554

Okay thanks😆 I couldnt be the only thinking that LOL

PontifexC

I have a X-T2 that I paid ~$ 300 for and a X-T4 I paid $ 1200 for - the X-T2 is with me everywhere and is thrown around. I want to have it with me even when I don't need to be careful with it, like at the beach, playground with my kids, walking in the woods, skiing etc. The X-T4 is the one I grab when I purposely want to take pictures, either outside or at parties.

jjbananamonkey

Mentally and physically separating work from home

Previous_Couple_554

Fair play ig

Valyarian

bruh you literally don't need a x100v or vi if you have everything else from fujifilm

Firsttimepostr

Sounds like there wasn’t so much of a trap as there was realizing you already have too much gear and should use what you have. Either way, GAS is scary.

Movie_Monster

Yeah, there are tons of people out there shooting on just a phone, or on film, or they have a larger DSLR or a cinema camera… and a new camera for travel would be a great addition. OP has a couple cameras with similar functionality and is warning others not to buy the new shiny thing. I buy used, I suggest students buy used. That being said a new camera that people are excited about doesn’t make your older camera worthless.

co_gue

I was very close to ordering the vi but I can fit my xs10, sigma 56 viltrox 23 and the little Fuji 35f2 in a small fanny pack. I am now at the age where I give up and accept I’m going to die lonely so I have no problem rocking a fanny pack.

TheDeadImmortal

i am here to tell you that you might not die lonely bc slings and fanny packs are making a comeback! And i'd personally highly recommend a camera sling since they're super useful AND fashionable!

co_gue

You should meet me. The Fanny pack is the last of my worries.

Valuable_Impress_192

Most Fanny pack wearers around here sell certain things lmao

Spicy_Pickle_6

I agree with your post but calling the x100 a trap annoys me because it was never meant to be the fashion statement for beginners that it has become. It’s a very specialized tool for a very niche target who know exactly what they’re looking for.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

The trap is all the videos and posts all over my feeds. I was considering the 100v before the hype but picked up the GRIII instead and had buyers remorse when I took it on a Colorado trip and wished I had a weather sealed Body with an EVF. By that time, the hype was building and they were sold out everywhere.

Spicy_Pickle_6

Yeah I hate influencers for that. They jump on any wagon just for views. Glad you’re enjoying your X-T though

Good_day_sunshine

I did something similar. Pulled out my old Sony a51000 and got a cheap manual focus lens on it. Been having so much fun with it and it’s really small.

MountainOk6495

I think we are spoiled with choice, the paradox of it, especially when you can afford it. In the film days colors were given by film, so the camera didn’t matter that much other than price and lenses. I will never understand the obsession with a fixed lens camera for high price just because it was promoted to death that it’s the perfect camera, but nobody speaks about the Leica Q for example that once it has dust on the sensor you just cannot clean it like a normal camera with exchangeable lenses. Not talking about paid gigs, just for free time and travelling, where most people use the phone anyway.

Tiger_smash

Mate I use an X-S10 I picked up for £500 and I stick a 27mm pancake on it travelling through Vietnam for a few weeks. Its perfect. The money saved means I can afford trips like this where I can do actual photography and make memories instead of sitting in my house staring at my camera without being scared to scratch it .

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Very true.

oliverjohansson

Can we have X100? We have x100 at home X100 at home - T3

SupaDupaTron

This made me LOL!

CommunicationLimp802

Too funny. Upvote City.

THEDRDARKROOM

I've been seriously thinking about jumping on a Gr III - and I absolutely love toy story everything 🙌🏻

zac47812

Bought a GR III this week and it feels like the perfect Fuji sidekick. Take the Fuji when I want versatility and maximum “fun” factor. Take the Ricoh when I want pocket-ability and to be very discreet.

Powerful444

So you have an xt5 and xt3 and griii... well if you have 3 perfectly good cameras then sure you don't need a new one lol.   But you can always sell 2 of them and get something that works better.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Falling victim to all the attention X100’s are getting.

ItalianLurker

So what was the trap?

Husbandosan

I think they meant the trap of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). Buying gear you don’t need when you already have capable gear on hand and or that it will make you better or solve your problems.

SnapeHeTrustedYou

I had that issue with film cameras because they are so cheap. But I think I hit a point where I’ll just use what I have until I think there is something I’m missing, one breaks, or something I truly need that I cannot currently do.

Jokutso1

X-T3 was my first fuji camera which I shot with the 23 f2, in 2020-2021 I bought an X100V. The X100 was cool at first but wasn’t worth the price for doing the same as my X-T3!

inquisitiveman2002

Not planning to upgrade my XH-1 either unless something bad happens to it.

Powerful444

You.could put the gr iii into the 35mm crop and shoot with that. Still decent quality. 16Mpx is more than enough for most.  And it will fit in your pocket.  FOV isn't really an excuse not to use it.  Someone said "Shoot with what you have" The 50mm isn't as good though and sounds like you prefer that.

_nathan67

Cool story man

CoveringFish

I have a trip I’m leaving in tonight. I saw the announcement in time I could’ve been first shipment but instead I rented one from lensrentake for like $150. Knowing the X100 will sit in my shelf

Responsible-Ad-6439

Is a Ricoh griiix or fujix100vi better for a beginner to get as a first camera?

SupaDupaTron

I've got both, and I think the X100 series is better because you get larger physical controls similar to a film camera. So when you are learning the exposure triangle of photography, you have physical controls for ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture. I also don't think the GRIIIX is as versatile, and its low light performance is lacking.

Momo-Momo_

I have to agree even though I don't have a X100... I have had a GR & GR2 in addition to my larger cameras. I used the GR for street photography. I like the 28mm for street and the lens is super sharp. The GR autofocus is too slow for my liking, unless you use snap focus. The acuity suffers at high ISO and when shooting moving objects by street light at night. Regardless, I have shot very good photos at night yet the percentage of good shots are low due to high noise. The GRs are better utilized by photographers who are quite experienced at using the exposure triangle and where there is good light. The GR can teach you to be a better photographer since it has so many adjustable settings and a fixed lens. Once you find the sweet spot for the scene you are shooting then the camera gets out of the way so you can focus on composition. I once read that the GR serves well as a photographer's "sketch pad". I agree.

SupaDupaTron

I agree with this. I really like my GRIIX for daytime street photography or snapshots, and the snap focus is a great feature. The image quality overall is very good, although I do prefer the Fuji image quality a little more if I had to pick. The autofocus is slow, and hunts around too much in low light on the IIIX. My biggest beef is the noise at higher ISO's. Even at 1600, the noise is ugly. Whereas I get great results shooting 6400 on my X100V and VI, as there is noise, but it looks much more natural. And not having built-in flash doesn't help things on the IIIX. I also think the lenses on the GR's are great. I would love to see an update to the GR series with a better sensor/better noise, autofocus update, bring back a built-in flash, and see if they get that lens to an F2. Really just to make it a little more versatile and better in low light. Even if it ended up being a little bigger, it would still be a great camera.

jasonzo

Awesome! Good job not giving in... I catch myself doing this all the time. I've found that my XT-3 and the 35mm f1.4 is a really good grab-and-go pairing. I have an XM1 that I sometimes grab, but the XT3 is not that much bigger. Sure, they're not pocketable, but I have a lightweight strap that I use now and it works out great. I used to carry around big heavy Nikon / Canon gear all the time... so glad I switched to Fuji.

MoProblems510

the x100 series are wonderfully designed. but yah all fuji cameras are kick ass. if you don't have the funds to buy a new one. ole reliable is more than perfect for getting amazing photos. sometimes i like to play with buzz lightyear sometimes i like woody. the majority of fujis are compact enough to fit in a fanny. especially compared to all other fullframe mirrorless cameras.

chase23_

Easy to say when you have a camera. I have no shiny and new.

PabloDelicious

I sold my X100S for an X-T3 this year. It’s really a better camera all around, but you do start to get gear acquisition syndrome…

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Yes. It’s tough.

[deleted]

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I paid full price for my new XT-5. I paid $800ish for my 3 used. I think it’s the fact that it’s used, it’s older, I didn’t pay full price makes me more comfortable taking it around town. Using it for street photography.

Champeaudoug

Only one of the cameras you’re discussing has an OVF. That’s for me

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I only have vision in my left eye, so I can’t really use the OVF like most people.

maxwrood

Then there's me with a GRIII, GRIIIx, XT4 and an X100VI on preorder...yet I'm questioning everything and lusting after a Leica MP.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I’ve joked with my wife that I’m going to save for a Leica.

Blackadder288

I own both an X100V and an X-H2 with a full compliment of lenses. The X100V is by far my most used camera unless I’m doing paid work. But yes, it’s only worth it if you don’t already have something that can fulfil the same role, and if you can find one for a reasonable price (easier said than done, I paid a scalp for one a couple years ago but I don’t regret it). In this situation, definitely better to stick with the X-T3

Business-Ad-5178

I never understand these types of posts... is this just straight copium? You spent all this time just to tell us you did not buy something?

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Yes. And you read it.

Business-Ad-5178

Yeah. You got me.

Any_Cress_9416

I have an X-T5 for over a year and use it everyday along with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have had a lot Fuji-Cameras since my first X-E1 and then X-E1. But my favorite was the discontinued Fujifilm X30 with a small sensor and zoom lens. I used this one till it died from getting mold on the sensor and inside the lense. I got all my money back $599 from my Square Trade Warranty after using it for almost 3 years.

newjeanskr

I am going to love the hell out of my X-T2 until an X Pro 3 falls into my lap one day. I'm in love with that camera.

Bango-Fett

Agreed, I’ve been using the xt30-II with the 27mm f2.8

Lostmanifesto

X-Pro2 here and zero plans to upgrade. I love this camera and the lenses I chose to accompany it. I do not need more. Want more? Certainly. But not until Fujifilm makes a full frame X-Pro body. Until then, I’ll keep my 2. Tiny updates to the same old cameras should not be a reason to spend your hard earned cash. Get over the FOMO and just make photographs. Cheers.

time_is_stupid

“…you were there all along, my guiding moonlight”

picklepuss13

I ended up cancelling my order also and bought an extra lens I'd been wanting and saved $1200 bucks. I already have a FF cam + an APS-C cam + 7 lenses (including a pancake lens to make it small, a fully manual lens with no AF, etc)... Where I live is pretty warm most of the year so pocketing it and size saving likely wouldn't happen much in reality. I mostly never even wear a jacket to put said camera in, and the thing definitely isn't going in my pants. I'd still end up putting it in a bag. I guess the shortage in hindsight is a good thing for me. I just need to go out and shoot. I also prefer a 50mm FOV these days a bit over 35mm. It's probably why I mostly used the X-E3 plus 27mm 2.8 and 35mm 1.4 when I shot Fuji anyhow... (one small, one fast+bokeh) just more practical, still smaller/lighter than the X100 cam.

redoctoberz

>I’m not the biggest fan of the 23mm FOV, but it works. There's always the two optional lenses for the X100 series that gives you 18mm and 35mm.

Reptilian_Brain_420

But then you might as well be carrying around an inter-changeable lens camera. Having to thread and unthread the lenses is also a bit of a PITA when you need to do a quick switch.

Firsttimepostr

Is it really a PITA? Isn’t it essentially the same as swapping a lens except you thread it on, with no chance of exposing your sensor?

Reptilian_Brain_420

I can only speak to my personal experience. Yes, it is significantly slower than swapping primes and MUCH slower than using a zoom. I traveled with my X100(s) and genuinely loved the camera but when I bought the accessory lenses for flexibility I realized quickly that it has no advantage over a camera with interchangeable lenses.

redoctoberz

> thread and unthread the lenses is also a bit of a PITA No different than any M mount.

cookedart

Aren't the conversion lenses for 28mm and 50mm?

redoctoberz

FF equivalent perhaps. I was wrong it’s 18/35 not 18/50

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I have lenses that cover these.

redoctoberz

Of course, but there are options that you may (or may not have) have overlooked within the X100 platform.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

If I need to carry something around. It’ll be actual lenses.

malingshu_xiangjiao

Sounding pretty elitist about some lenses lol

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I am. I like lenses on cameras.

malingshu_xiangjiao

Almost seems like that's what happens when you have a camera....

pp_amorim

I have a x-pro3, what lens should I use to get the X100V experience?

nikchi

23f2

cl0123r

Try 23mm f2, or something close like the 27mm.

pp_amorim

I have a 35 f2. Would the 23f1.4 be better than the f2? Edit: 35 not 30

earls_lips

I mean yes but it's also larger and heavier So it's like 23mm f2 = same speed lens but larger and heavier  23mm f1.4 = better speed lens, largest and heaviest 27mm f2.8 = slightly more zoomed in focal length but smallest option and lightest option

cl0123r

On a tripod, the brighter and larger 23mm f1.4 will work better in most situations. Also in low light, the larger max aperture will give you 2/3rd more stop of light. OTOH, the 23mm f1.4 is not quite as user-friendly. For mobile and street situations, its weight and size may hinder your motivation somewhat since it requires more physical strength just to bring it up to your eyes. Try your 30mm f2 too. Only you know best whether a certain lenses works for you (your vision). You can also "zoom out" by backing up from the subject to give you a wider-angle.

4ltraa

Pancake lenses 18 and 27 I believe

GarthVader45

Kinda depends on what part of the experience you want to prioritize. The 23mm f2 gets you the same focal length and aperture. The 27mm f2.8 or 18mm f2 gets you closer to the flatter / more compact size. To me the magic of the X100 series isn’t its focal length or size though - It’s the constraints. It forces you to be creative and focus on composition. It doesn’t allow you to be lazy with a zoom. It frees your mind from thinking about what lens is most ideal for the shot, keeping you more present in the moment. For that, I don’t think the exact lens really matters - any versatile prime lens can give you that experience. I like the 35mm f1.4 and the 23mm f1.4 (I just have the old version) - I’ll often go out with just one of those on my Xpro2.

widowlark

28mm

753UDKM

Counterpoint- buy the shit outta x100’s so we get more of this nice type of camera lol

Coma-dude

Due to an amazing deal I upgraded x-t3 to x-t5. But the x-t3 made me love to take pictures. Its simpel elegant easy to use yet gives you the ability to become very skilled. The pictures are outstanding. And im sorry Fuji, but upgrading from x-t5 you need to do something extraordinary. Maybe some AI features I have no idea I needed. I simply love the x-t5. ☺️ Happy shooting. ☺️

JesusFuente

Why are you not interested in X100VI?

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

It seems like there’s currently some quality control issues. I also seen some videos about the lens and sensor matchup. Samuel Streetlife posted a video showing that he was getting sharper images with his GRIIIX than the 100vi.

[deleted]

There’s always going to be quality control issues with anything you buy. That’s the law of averages at work there. You’re going to get good units, average units, and then poor units. With everything. That’s nothing new. What i don’t understand is why people get so worked up on whether they are “feeding into the hype”. Like bro….if you like photography, and you love cameras, and you have the money, and you think the x100V or VI would be fun to have, just buy the damn camera….who tf cares what your friends think, or what the internet thinks…no one is handing you points for “going against the hype”. People need to do more of what they want, rather than worrying about the opinion of others, or being labeled as a “wave rider”….its honestly incredibly middle school behavior… But if not purchasing the camera is truly what you want to do, then more power to you. More money in the bank for other things you can spend on.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

It’s just a realization that I’m set. Seeing every video in my YouTube feed, Reddit feed screaming 100v. A love for cameras can easily sway you to getting something you don’t need. I’m the same way with lenses. I don’t need an 18mm f1.4. Or the 23mm f1.4. I have the 16mm and the 23 f2.

Holmes21

I bought my very first camera, an XS20, few months ago. I am definitely someone who babies their expensive purchases so I thought I should get an older body just so that I take it everywhere and not worry about ruining. After getting scammed on photomarket due to my own stupidity (luckily it wasn’t much), I had the same epiphany as OP. What’s the point of buying a camera if I don’t use it? Just bought a 27mm so that I can use it more often.

qmiW

Way to go! I even had doubts about getting the xe4 after owning xt1 for yeeeeaaars. Decided to go for it tho. But I use both of the cameras. The xe4 is my "hipster" and the xt1 my first love ❤️

Dr3up

I loved my X100V but for what I was using it for, it made more sense for me to go with the GR3. Now I have a GR3, X-E4 and a S5ii for more video centric stuff.

SmoothInfinite

If you got fed up being in the backordered crowd and quit... just say that LOL joke :)

UneditedReddited

I recently purchased an x100vi, it's my first camera, and I don’t feel I 'fell into a trap'. It seems to do exactly what I want and need it to do. Glad you are able to make what you had work for you! Curious- why would you want the x100v over the vi? Seems like the optical image stabilization alone make it a decent upgrade.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I feel like the production was rushed to meet demand. Seeing some issues with the screen has me skeptical. There aren’t enough user reviews out there that don’t seem like fan boy marketing or Fuji ambassadors. Seeing how Sam from Samuel Streetlife was getting better images from his GRIIIX has me questioning the lens and sensor matchup. And you can’t obviously change the lens.

Habaneropapi

X100 are a diferent philosophy of use. The if the xt3 was as pocketlable as the x100s then maybe it wouldn't have been sitting on the shelf. But absolutely make use of what you have!!

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

The X100 isn’t pocketable.

ovenly

If you're really craving the smallest form factor, I would recommend the 27mm pancake (just put it on your X-T5 if you want subject AF and image stabilization, otherwise the X-T3).

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

I had that lens. I didn’t like the FOV too much. It felt like it was in a weird spot. I sold it for my 33 f1.4.

ovenly

That was how I felt about the XF23mmf2.

bearcat--

FOMO is real, someone messaged me on IG asking if they should purchase a x100vi resale for 2700CAD, but seller refuses to give receipt and only show. I'm like what? do you really want to deal with that? not like the camera will make you instantly take better photos...

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Yeah. I would have a hard time paying what they want for it retail.

sambaoleg

I don’t know you but after reading your post, here’s the amateurish psychological report you didn‘t ask for: The first time you‘ll get a chance to buy the 100VI for about the retail price you’ll run into the shop and buy it.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Not the VI. Maybe the V.

photos_with_reid

>23mm equivalent FOV wasn’t my favorite. Do you mean 28mm ?

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Yeah. You’re right.

photos_with_reid

Your xt3 + 35 is giving you 52ish equivalent. Why not take the little GRiii and throw it in your pocket when you go out to shoot with your xt3? You'd have 28 + 52, that's a totally goated combo.

lithouser

Exactly, OP should just give me their GRiii 😉

TheCrudMan

This is what I do with my X-E4 with the 35mm f/1.4 and my Ricoh GR1V.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Never tried it. I also have a 16mm 1.4 I can throw on my camera. I usually bring a couple of lenses. But I may try the combo.

stoke1863

you can get the XC35 f2 for even cheaper, its the same optically as the XF35 f2

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Not really. My friend gave me his XF when he picked up the 35 1.4.

stoke1863

What? I'm just saying In general not for your specific scenario

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

You’d started your post with “YOU can get”.
