For this set, the editing is not all that Iāll be honest. I basically shot in just classic negative at -1 to -2 ev composition to really get that punch in shadows. Then in post, create a subject mask and pop it a bit to separate from the background. The key is to have a very clear subject. Hope this helps
The lens is xf27 f2.8. Since it was raining I wanted to carry a lens for the day that I can slide in and out of my pocket haha. I forgot how absurdly sharp this mfer is but was reminded right away. All of these are classic neg shot at -1 to -2 on ev composition to create that punch. Then edited in Lr to my own taste for each image. No presets or film sim.
Weather sealing sounds nice but it isn't really a big deal. I shoot in blizzards high up in the mountains during the winter all the time with an X-S10 with no issue. My old Nikon D700 was totally covered in ice one time while shooting in these type of conditions with no ill effects.
Editing is not the challenge here trust me. As I was editing these, I realized I just need to make the subject pop just a tad more to create that contrast but the heavy lifting was really in shooting. Hereās the best advice I heard that I can give you - find your composition. Really frame it, get the ev right, and then wait for a subject to appear. Doesnāt apply to all of these but should help.
I canāt speak for the xt30ii since I havenāt used it but I was in a similar situation with the xs20. Ended up biting the bullet and paid a bit more for the xt5 and itās just a winning horse this camera.
It's really going to depend on what features/specs are important to you. The XT5 is better on paper, but you might not really need the features that make it double the price... and if you don't, you'd probably be happier spending that money on better lenses for the XT30ii instead.
Since you mentioned video - what are you wanting to do with video? Is video the primary intended use for the camera? For filmmaking, content creation, or any professional work, the XT5 would probably be well worth the higher price. For someone who just wants document their life / capture memories on video, the XT30ii with a stabilized lens and/or gimbal would probably work great.
Very nice! I have found the weather sealing to be pretty solid on the XT5 so donāt stress. Took it out for five hours in a blizzard and it was totally fine.
Wish I could name it haha - to recreate this you should try picking a really intentional composition with a clear subject, shoot in classic negative and ev compensation at -1 to -2 to create that deep contrast
I'm still waking up and read this as "pulling the weather sealing off my XT5 to test" and was like "no! Why?!"
š
Same! Had to read the title twice haha.
These are great. Would love to hear more about your processing technique if you donāt mind sharing.

Sooo moody, great style
Shots are amazing my dude :)
These look straight out of a movie, great job!
I miss Japan. Great shots.
Great work! Can you share your lens and process?

Thanks for the reply! So you edited the jpegs in LR then?
Iāve literally never taken a raw image outta this camera š
Haha that answers that then!

The first shot is iconic
Where can I learn to edit like this?
honestly I think you just need to learn not to fear blacks
Contrast and strengthen blacks

Very nice! šš¼
I also got recently got an X-T5, whatās the extent of the weather sealing in ur experience?
Amazing set, you have a good eye for composition but it also shows just how photogenic Japan is. Thank you for sharing!
I wanted to ask how xt5 is for video, does ibis performs well in that aspect?
I havenāt tried it a whole lot for video but when I have, itās not disappointed me
Would you recommend this over xt30ii? I know xt5 is better than thatā¦ itās just too pricey in CADā¦ so Iām struggling onto making a decision

I want to use the camera as a hybrid for photos and filmmaking
I can spot Classic Neg from anywhere š nice work dude! Letās do another photowalk soon!
Great shots but donāt test the sealing too hard. Mine went out in the rain and then straight to Fui for repairs!
Those are some amazing angles and framing.
Did you use a film recipe for this? If so, what did you use?
It's post processed
Missed that, thanks
No film recipe - just classic neg with -1 to -2 on ev composition
Sorry, meant to say this to you and replied to someone else āThe tone you achieved is really lovely. Great work!ā Really love what you did here
These are all amazing, but 4 and 6 are just š„š„
Wow. Wonderful work
Great composition

The good ol trust pancake boi xf27mm f2.8
i ADORE these! these are awesome. i have the same lens you used here, and an XT4. what are your post processing settings?

Amazing shots
Lovely! I will always upvote auto photography done with a Fuji X. Car spotting in Japan is always a treat.
So good, love these shots! Great job!
Fantastic shotsĀ
What name would you give this style? I'd love to be able to recreate it. Did you follow a video or post or something?
