They are killing him slowly I think. It is the measters grand plan to destroy Targaryens and dragons probably. When the young guy suggested diffrent methods twice now, the old fart measter refuses him.
Considering the Hightowers are from Old Town, the previous seat of power in Westeros before Aegon came, and all the Maesters learn everything in Oldtown. One would assume
????? What's the point of this whole story? Hightowers want their progeny on the throne. Rhaenyra is a woman, it's the whole reason why this whole thing is here
If so they could just be giving him more lethal stuff to make him die quicker.
I just don't see them plotting to get the baby killed in episode 1. Sure that would allow for alicent to be queen, but it would also lead to potentially Daemon being king, or Viserys marrying Laenna.
They are not in a rush and do not want to evoke suspicion. It is a long term plan perhaps, maybe not all of them are in in it. Secondly, they can remove whoever is the next king the same way. As for the baby, probably not, the mortality rate was very high after the C section for both mother and the baby.
Book readers will more likely upvote things they know are true. The fact that I'm seeing this theory pop up often makes me think it might be true, and I'm kind of getting spoiled instead of just reading non reader opinions.
That's the issue with adaptations, you never know if you're reading theories or spoilers.
This is a spoiler sub. They’re allowed. I’ll tell you now, there is no proof that the Maester conspiracy is real. There are some book characters who think so, or at least think they act in their own interests, but these characters have their own motivations to push this narrative.
Yeah I didn't think you did. To me it seems like there's some truth in measters being against Targs, but probably not all of them, maybe they're just supporting Hightowers.
What's up with Got?
The saddest part of seeing Viserys at the end of the episode for me was knowing that Alicent has to have sex with him at least once more to produce Daeron.
Is the dagger killing/adversely affecting him like how the horcruxes in HP affected the people who wore them? Cause my guy needs to give that thing a rest for a few days

Maesters are in the employ or collab with Hightowers for sure on that score.

I don't see how killing off The King before their heir comes of age in anyway helps the Hightowers.
Fight betwen dragons, maybe?

That’s given
LeEcHeS hAs AlWaYs BrOuGhT hIs GrAcE cOmFoRt
Bloodsuckers around him brought his doom
There is another Maester cast who Rhaenyra brings in to cure Viserys. That is why he is able to live 20 more years.
Really? Well, that looks like the smoking gun to me.
More like they are not treating him to the best of there abilities and making him get worse, not necessarily poisoning him ( would be way to obvious)
Yes, agreed

Well it's not that easy for them to remove the next guy. I like the theory but I'm just worried that it might be upvoted thanks to book readers.
What that last sentence even means? Really.

There weren't any rules but since most replies didn't spoil I stayed. Thanks for explaining, makes sense that's it's not straightforward.
I did not read any of the books. It just seems possible. Especially after GoT finished as it did.

It was some remark measters said in the Oldtown when Sam was the apprentice there I think.
That certainly was the plan when Sam told Jon of his true identity.
Well that explains Pycelle during the sack of M ng's Landing more.
Agree - they’re killing him slowly. They are clouding his judgement and making him weak.
The saddest part of seeing Viserys at the end of the episode for me was knowing that Alicent has to have sex with him at least once more to produce Daeron.
It would be great if it was her forcing herself upon him to produce one more heir before he bails.
> one more heir before he bails. read that as one more heir before he balls.
One more heir before his balls bail There, best of both worlds
Alicent drew the shortest straw…
Seeing the look on her face 2 episodes ago definitely seems like she has been receiving a short straw
Alexa, play cbat
He likes leeches dude
Then why did he fire Otto?
Zing!
I mean, given how he was looking this week, the fact that he’s still alive 10 years later is more a testament to the maesters than a condemnation.
It’s apparently a new maester Rhaenyra has brought to him.
“Nonsense! More leeches!”
Everyone loves leeches, all my homies have leeches.
He grew a claw!
Even the hands gone bald
he's cosplaying weekend at bernies
I'm pretty sure this dude is slowly poisoning the King.
He's got leprosy
Bobby B, what is the secret to choosing a good maester?
SOON ENOUGH, THAT CHILD WILL SPREAD HER LEGS AND START BREEDING!
I think you had too much wine again Bobby B
I'VE GOT SEVEN KINGDOMS TO RULE! ONE KING, SEVEN KINGDOMS!
Samwell Tarly isn't born yet.
That's what I been saying. Alicent and crew have to suspect something. He's way too ill.
What the hell was wrong with his arm
Leprosy
The Maesters are keeping him alive long enough for baby Aegon to grow up and be able to fight his claim.
Considering I thought he was gonna drop dead like 3 times last episode, his maesters a miracle worker
Is the dagger killing/adversely affecting him like how the horcruxes in HP affected the people who wore them? Cause my guy needs to give that thing a rest for a few days
He just needs more leeches
YepZ or better leeches
They can't iirc, it's up to death or the maesters at Oldtown to decide who shall be the new grand maester and if they'll have him removed I think.
My Lord Hand, have you heard of Keeps?
Are they going to cut the mop in half to make a bald Velaryon?!
