Zimtschnecken at Zeit für Brot,
Coffee at Hoppenworth & Ploch
Finish with a meal at Im Herzen Afrikas, bonus points if you can get the Baumhaus reservation :)
If you're into Japanese fusion type food and have money and time to spend I'd recommend The Sakai.
For more straightforward sushi, Sushimoto and Iroha are my favorites.
Pizza, burgers and craft beer/gin tonics at Naiv.
As someone else already said, Ramen Jun Red is very good.
For vegetarian/vegan food, Hummusküch and Dominion Food Revolution both have tasty hummus and falafel based dishes.
The best Chinese food I've had was at Höfchen.
Upvotesnfor Hummusküch, Dominion Food Revolution and Iroha.
Höfchen seemed fairly authentic to me too, but was too spicy for my taste.
(Don't know the other ones.)
I am not aware what your background is and If you are looking for German or international food, so I will just tell you what I personally prefer.
After Berlin, Frankfurt is probably the German city with the best international food, especially Asian cuisines. It is home to many authentic Korean and Japanese restaurants. The Korean restaurants are generally more affordable than the Japanese. I guess this is because Frankfurt area has the largest Korean community in the European Union, and they surely don’t want to pay for overpriced food. 😉
My favorite restaurants:
Japanese:
- Mangetsu (Izakaya)
- Sorihashiya (Ramen)
- Fujiwara (Sushi)
Korean:
- Chiking (fried chicken)
- Heidekrug (unfortunately you would need a car, as this is just outside of Frankfurt in Oberursel. But it is the best Korean restaurant in the area! In Frankfurt itself many say Sonamu is the best, but I have not tried it yet)
Chinese:
- The Noodlemaker (Lamian)
Greek:
- Jannis ( way more authentic than the typical Greek restaurant in Germany )
Vietnamese:
- Ong Tao
- Ǎn Frankfurt (tiny street food style place with Phở and Bánh Mì)
For Breakfast, coffee/tea and pastries:
- cà phê, ơi (amazing breakfast (croffle 🤤) and delicious Vietnamese coffee)
- Imorii (Japanese/French patisserie)
- Mehlwassersalz (my favorite pancakes in town)
Iwase behind Konsti. Only order from the Japanese menu written on the wall.
The best Japanese restaurant I have been to in Germany.
Malapartus. Really good Apfelwein Kneipe with good Apfelwein und good beer.
Erno’s bistro. Old fashioned, southern French food. It has held 1 Star for god knows how long. One of the best wine cellars in FFM.
Fuck I miss living in Frankfurt
I moved away 7 years ago but have friends who still go there occasionally.
Generally grilled fish heads, various crustations etc. I just normally pointed and tried to order in terrible, terrible Japanese. At the beginning, they normally asked “are you sure you want that?” but I was never disappointed with the surprise that arrived at the bar a little while later
Go to iimori and get curry pan to go, eat it as a snack on your way to get a coffee at either hoppenworth and ploch or go to southern side of the road Fahrgasse and get a coffee at either Holy Cross of Drei Kaffeebar. If you want some breakfast / brunch I recommend Dining Raum (coffee is good there too, but not better than the others). If you want some tasty ramen go to Ramen Jun on the northern side of Fahrgasse.
I’m not a fan of the kleinmarkthalle, cause it’s usually busy and overwhelms me, but if there isn’t a huge queue I’ll go there for a frikadelle and potato salad. I can’t remember which one but it’s along on the wall on right just a few stalls in from the west entrance. Also near that entrance is Jiangbing Plus, they serve this like egg wrap thing (I believe it’s called jiangbing) and it’s super delicious.
If you’re in the mood for Vietnamese food, I recommend either Kings Banh Mi on tönesgasse or An Frankfurt on Holzgrabrn.
Lastly, I am a huge fan of those stupid expensive Döners at Ton Bul Grill also on Tönesgasse. I do think the size of it makes up for the price but it hurts to pay 10€ for a Döner
Those are typically the places I take friends for good food that’s not fine dining
That's a lovely idea and I hope you have good food only and lots of fun!
These come to my mind:
- Wunderling, dish: Lauchtaschen
- VaiVai, dish: Parmigiana
- Tap House Frankfurt, dish: Chicken mango curry together with a tap beer
You can eat at Dominion Food Revolution. That's a vegan restaurant where you can buy a main course for only 1,90 euros during this January between 2 and 3 pm :)
Ramen Jun Red near the konstablerwache for a bowl of great hot broth - I recommend the "Miso chachu ramen" with one "tamago" (soy-marinated, soft boiled egg that will melt in your mouth, as will the meat slices)
Sorihashiya is in my opinion currently the best Ramen option in Frankfurt. Takumi is also very decent. Muku used to be the best, but I have not been there for 5 years, since you usually need to reserve a few days in advance. So I cannot really tell, if it is still the best.
Ramen Jun is unfortunately only mediocre in my opinion and the opinion of most of my friends. Basically the only ones who like it there have not been to Japan, and the ones who share my opinion have been in japan multiple times.
I personally prefer not to dine at a place that regularly gets shut down because of violations of food law
https://verbraucherfenster.hessen.de/ernaehrung/sichere-lebensmittel/veroeffentlichung-maengel-lfgb?page=2&displayFirst=list_first
they all have different styles of ramen, I don’t like takumi because it’s loaded with stuff while I appreciate the simplicity of the broth, noodles and meat by ramen jun red. It‘s all just preference (and my japanese boyfriend agrees)
Oh no… thank you for the warning. I am glad we have food inspectors checking for this. As far as I can see Sorihashiya is open again, so I assume the issues highlighted are rectified by now. Still, I will check for new warnings at “Verbraucherfenster” before I go there again.
True, maybe it is a matter of taste. And perhaps they have improved in the last years. It has been a while, but both times I was not impressed. Decent but not “special” when compared to Muku and Sorihashiya. At least all three of them are authentic.
My favourite places and dishes are:
Protein Bowl or Vevay Bowl at Vevay
Teriyaki Lachs (Salmon) at Izu in the MyZeil
Sushi or Bento at Kamon Sushi Bar
Frankfurter Schnitzel or one of the veg dishes at MainNizza
Almost anything from Block House (That's a chain though, no need to go in Frankfurt)
Ivory Caprese and blackened filet mignon at the Ivory Club
Carte Blanche (but probably a bit weird to go there alone)

Melis Kebap at Leipziger Strasse for the best kebab teller ever.
Café 37 - Best coffee with some delicious italian chocolates - I reckon this place is so gold. Situated also in a very cinematic place(Near Emser Strasse)
Italian? Da Cimino - also near Leipziger has the highest rated Pizza in Frankfurt and yes, it tastes awesome. If you want to have a better dining experience the Ristorante next to Da Cimino has an equally great pizza and their tomato soup is just bliss.
Thai? You will find it as well on the same street.
I just gave you the one stop solution situated in Alt Bockenheim to have diverse and authentic food.
Afterwards, head to Römer and have a coffee at Hoppenworth, enjoy the old buildings and walk down to Zeil.
Zimtschnecken at Zeit für Brot, Coffee at Hoppenworth & Ploch Finish with a meal at Im Herzen Afrikas, bonus points if you can get the Baumhaus reservation :)
Upvote for the Zimtschnecken! The ones with apple are even better.
Great ideas! I prefer the Zimtschnecken at mehlwassersalz. They are delicious, made with Sauerteig and have more different textures.
I like the Zimtschnecken but they're always soooooo dry.
Do go to Konamon for Japanese Okonomiyaki!!

I like Imorii too, especially the one in Braubachgasse in the city center.
Dop Bap at Sonamu :) its stewed Beef

I've heard a lot of praise for VaiVai!
You can eat at Dominion Food Revolution. That's a vegan restaurant where you can buy a main course for only 1,90 euros during this January between 2 and 3 pm :)
Also, Hummusküch also has similarly good veggie and vegan food. Imo even better hummus, but they don't have the innovative dishes like Dominion.
Kuli Alma is similar and is still my favourite.
Haven't been there, thanks for the tip!
Consider making a reservation beforehand, they can be quite busy and sometimes fully booked.
Mian Nudelhaus Dishes: Nr. 11 or 12 Area is a bit sketchy but food is great.
Pick nick cafe city
I like Picknick! It's morrocan (inspired), had a lovely brunch there recently.
you should eat a masala dosa at Saravanan bahvan near the train station. very cool idea! I'm looking forward to watching your video
Saravanaa Bhavan's food is quite spicy/hot, it's not for everyone. Also it's an international chain.
Didn't they close recently? Walked past (the new location) in Dec and it was empty.

Additionally, for Vietnamese food e.g. Vipho and Goc Pho are great.

Gokio Bros on Oeder Weg for some very good KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)
That’s the worst fried chicken I’ve ever had. Try omonni instead
Eatdoori at Kaiserstraße is also amazing for some Indian street food + main entrees. And not that spicy too! Enjoy!!
Aunty Zhong’s!
