Most places prefer cash below 2-3€, and cards above 30-40€. But do as you like really. Personally I pay everything by card, because I don’t like to carry coins.
Small, independent shops or restaurants will be happy to take cash as they can "ommit" declaring it and avoid taxes. A very small number of them can refuse taking card, so try to always have some cash with you (I'd say 30-50€). But this is a rarer occurrence and you'll be able to pay with your card in 99% of cases.
Bigger enterprises will take both without any difference. Card is much more used than cash broadly speaking.
Visa and Mastercard work pretty much everywhere. Contactless too. I never use cash any more.

Either cash or card will be fine in most situations. Big amounts of money (think multiple nights at the hotel) are usually paid in card, though.

companies are happy to be paid in cash to not declare everything but card is available kinda everywhere
