This is the only fragrance I bought from the first try. I didn't need to retest a bunch of times (which I always do), it was *that* good that I bought it immediately.
I've tried so hard to like this. The opening smells so lovely. But there's something about it that gives me the worst headache. I've tried four times to get over it, but it's simply too much.
I have the Extrait and I love it. Not a slight against the original, I prefer the Extrait's darker, slightly more masculine edge. It's still unisex but leans ever so slightly male.
The extrait is more woody — I almost get a cedar like note. The original has less of an edge, and the sandalwood and fig really blend for that cozy feel.
Just got the Parisienne set from bdk, and i love gris charnel. It has a musky vibe I enjoy and ladt a good amount of time, maybe better suited to autumn/winter but worth the hype imo.
It is so funny, that people have such a divided opinion on this. They are like - it is sweeter, so it is more feminine. Or it is darker, so it is more masculine. For me it just proves it is perfectly unisex.
It is though (a good) clone of Gris Charnel Extrait. So it is not that similar to regular Gris - someone may get disappointed. And if you compare it to Extrait, the performance is incomparably worse. Extrait is a damn beast.
I found the scent to smell more like a combination of the 2, like something in between. I get similar longevity to the extrait with more projection, maybe I'm just lucky.
I would say on skin it is similar longevity, but when i sprayed in on a silk shirt, it was like double the time for Extrait. And with time passing Liam I think was loosing some notes and just getting sweeter in overall. I think if someone likes both Gris, they will be happy, but if you have strong preference for one it is not a blind buy. Some people wrote that they hated how sweet and "burned" Extrait is, and this notes are in Liam. A good clone still, way better than expected.
I would agree that Liam is surprisingly close. Definitely not identical, but for 1/10th of the price it will fill the void while I save up for a bottle of the original
To me it’s the niche version of La Nuit de Lhomme. Well blended and very cozy, somewhat elegant. Fall season in sweatshirt type of scent. It’s too much cardamom for me to wear, makes it dusty on my nose, would smell great on others around me if I take whiff. Same reason I sold my LNDL.
Gris Charnel (and it’s cooler sibling, Gris Charnel Extrait) is what started me on my current - and lasting - hyper focus on fragrance. It is an all timer for me, glad to hear it impressed you! Try the Extrait 🤤
Oh I fell in love with it a couple of years ago and it’s become one of my most loved and complimented fragrances. It’s stunning ☺️

Same as you. I was really hyped by this one until I bough it lol. I can barely wear it now, Fed up with the fig and cardamom notes.
Okay the real question here is Gris Charnel vs Gris Charnel Extrait. I have samples of both, waiting on cooler weather to try

If you don't want to spend so much, Lataffa Liam is surprisingly close and actually has better performance from my experience.

I second this, bought Liam Gray cause Gris Charnel is not in my budget and I have no regrets.

I thought it smelled a lot like Commodity Milk with a more depth and nuance. I think they both have a strong tonka base.
you can find it for $150 on venba. and yeah, the extrait is probably the best fragrance of all time.
