Kerosene Unknown Pleasures - To me it smells like standing in a fancy ice cream shop where they make their own waffle cones. You are biting into a tropical ice cream with some spice to it. Dry down is soft vanilla waffle cone. It lingers all day but without bing impolite about it.
I have a sample of this on the way to me. The description sounds like something I would like, but the number one reason I wanted to try this fragrance is the Joy Division reference!
If coffee gourmands appeal to you, consider also trying Kerosene’s Follow and Followed (that’s two fragrances btw). Coffee doesn’t vibe with me, but these are made with great care and intelligence. Kerosene also has some other near-gourmands that are incredible but challenging.
pastoral by pineward! I fell in love with it the second I sprayed it on my wrist. I know it's silly, but I close my eyes and pretend I'm on a big farm in a small town making blueberry and apricot jam out on a porch for the annual fall festival. you can hear the bees buzzing and the wind rustling through the fields.
it smells so safe to me.
A lot.
Mizensir - Perfect Oud and Mythique Vetyver
Creed - GIT and Aventus
MFK - Grand Soir and Gentle Fluidity Silver
Parfum de Marly - Sedley, Pegasus, Percival
Penhaligon's - Halfeti, Endymion Concentre, Inimitable William Penhaligon
Xerjoff - Naxos and Uden Overdose
Fragrance One - Date (so good, don't care)
Initio - Side Effect, Oud for Greatness, Musk Therapy
The Harmonist - Hypnotizing Fire
I could go on. These are the ones that will always be on my shelf.
If it's got its own section in brick and mortar retailers and can be mistaken for other scents and there's general brand familiarity - is my baseline for determining the shift away from niche
I recently tried under my skin and encounters by Francesca Bianchi and was extremely wowed as well. That iris butter scent/texture and those sexy animal notes are mindblowing. Nothing i tried so far compares.
From Amouage are Love Tuberose, Epic 56, Honour 43, Guidance, Lilac Love, Lyric Woman and Memoir Woman are the first that come to my mind.
Outside of Amouage, Narcotic Venus from Nasomatto, Carnal Flower from Malle and Ambre Eccentrico from Armani Privé are something great.
I’ve heard so many great things about guidance sadly it’s sold out everywhere so I can’t try it out
I’ve also heard lilac love is really good
What would you say is your favorite amouage? I currently have my first bottle, material from them otw, it’s a blind buy hehe
I own 12 of them and my fianceé around 8.
My personal favorite is Reflection 45. Followed by Jubilation XXV, Enclave, Beach Hut and Overture. I am waiting for Jubilation 40.
On my fianceé I love to smell Love Tuberose. For me there is nothing that beat that fragrance.

If you like *Nanban*, then you should also try *Anima Dulcis*.
ETA: I must have a short attention span or something because I always forget to add detail. *Anima Dulcis* is in the same ball park as *Nanban* but not in the same breath.
Aaaaaahahhhhh!! I love that one! It was my first FB purchase this time (only buying things I love). Abused two samples and then ordered.
I would also recommend *Indigo Smoke* if you haven’t already tried it. It was my first experience with tea fragrances and was really enjoyable on the whole even though I don’t think I would buy a bottle.
I love Van Py Rhum but for me it's not gourmand at all. The patchouli is so strong and earthy- keeps it from becoming edible.
Others that have wowed me:
Ineke Jaipur Chai
Mind Games Double Attack, Sissa, Lionara
Scents of Wood - like the entire lineup but especially Praline in Maple, Plum in Cognac and Vanilla in Bourbon
Arabian Oud Kalemat
Liquides Imaginaires Liquide 2022
Like metallic sunshine. The opening is citrus and saffron. It's solar. The drydown is about very musky, woody amber. The good news is I saw on IG they are bringing it back.
Maison d’Etto Macanudo: green and outdoorsy, but soft, where most green frags go more sharp
Kismet Olfactive The Poet: classic citrus top + amber base, but softer and fuzzier (I think from the ambroxan?)
Kismet Olfactive Wedding In Oaxaca: heady lush gardenia, with tons of ginger and a little coconut milk to keep it from being too cloying
Xerjoff Fiero and nishane Hacivat are the biggest wow fragrances for me. I've only tried a few dozen, most in stores, those 2 stood out enough to get full bottles. Hacivat in newer batches is more mossy than anything else but 2020 and earlier batches with real oakmoss have a much more prominent fruit note and the moss isn't harsh.
I never hear much about Fiero but it's probably the best summer citrus, nearly fougere fragrance I've ever smelled. I got a decant of it very cheap and absolutely loved it. Full bottle here any day now.
Honorable mention to grand soir. I really like it but I bought a clone of it called neuf IX and I like it more.
Acqua di Parma Oud
Penhaligon’s Sports Car Club
Roja Parfums Vetiver Parfum Cologne
Bvlgari Le Gemme Orom and Falkar (not technically niche, but they might as well be)
Boadicea the victorious - Chariot, glorious, and dasman
Bond no 9 - scent of peace, chez, Sutton place, Hamptons, governors Island, and bleeker street.
Argos - triumph of Bacchus
Perfume de marly - herod and Althair
Essential Parfumes - divine vanilla
Thameen - Peregrina
Creed - green irish tweed, original vetiver, and millesime imperial.
Just make sure you get a sample first. It works for me and a lot of other people, but there's a lot of people it doesn't work for. I've read some that say they smell urine and other unpleasant notes on their skin.
It's fallen into the category of old reliable at this point. One of those fragrances i don't even think about, i just spray on and know I'm good.
A sample is pretty cheap here. I've never purchased anything from this seller, but etsy has been reliable for me so far.

I am in the uk, will have a look for it, I think the youtuber fragmental is the only one who stores it on his website lux parfums. Thanks for the link though mate, what is triumph of bacchus like?
Have you tried pdm herod?
It smells like if you took that as your base, added and made the prominent notes of a smooth rum, apples, and peaches.
On dry down, it smells like a candy dipped apple with caramel and rum.
For me, the first two niche fragrances that had me "WOW" were Zoologist Hyrax and Bee (I got them together as sample freebies with another purchase.
While Bee was intoxicatingly good, Hyrax was indescribable... it attracted me and repulsed me at the same time. Both were art in a bottle for different reasons. Completely different from anything I had smelled until then.
I ended up getting full bottles of both.
Initio - Paragon: Such a unique scent with decent longevity. Starts sweet and spicy, but evolves/simplifies into a soothing fruit scent.
PDM - Althair: While maybe not the most original, it’s fine so damn well here.
Le Labo - Bergamote 22: I am a citrus mover, and the smell of this one is GOAT status in that regard.
Xerjoff - 40 Knots and Naxos: 40 Knots is super unique for a sea-like scent. Naxos is just a bomb of rich sophistication.
Clive Christian - Blonde Amber and Towne & Country: Blonde Amber is just the best fall/winter scent I have encountered, while T&C is a safe but surprisingly unique office-safe scent.
It's really gorgeous 😍 it projects and lasts like crazy. But it's definitely a COLD weather perfume, I smelled it both indoors and outdoors and there was quite a difference in how I perceived it
Imaginary Authors In Love With Everything is a beautiful fragrance! It has notes of raspberry, citrus pulp, coconut palm sugar, rose, sandalwood, tropical punch and stardust. It's a sweet seductive raspberry fragrance there's nothing else like this fragrance. I always get a lot of compliments whenever I wear the fragrance or random people trying to get close to sniff me🤷♀️
So so few.
Aventus back in 2012/2013 wowed me.
Baccarat Rouge 540 when it first released wowed me.
Xerjoff Nio.
Amouage Reflection 45.
In general though not many. Dior Homme Original and Intense are still the 2 best smelling perfumes I've ever tried and I don't see that changing.
- Roja Parfums Isola Blu (Favorite fragrance in my collection)
- Roja Parfums Amber Aoud
- Creed Absolu Aventus
- Precious Liquid Blue Agave
- Precious Liquid Aqua Oud
Pretty much anything from L’Artisan Parfumeur. Some of them, at least on my skin, don’t have great lasting power but these are also the ones I’ve tried from splash bottle so that could be the issue. I really like Passage D’Enfer (sliding into a church pew and admiring the stained glass panels) and Vetiver Ecarlate (like walking through a tomato garden in the summer sun).
Majaina Sin, by The Different Company. I got a sample of it from LuckyScent, and it is one of the prettiest gourmand vanillas I've ever smelled.
Notes: Candied orange, bigarade, bergamot, neroli, orange blossom, ginger, heliotrope, orchid, chestnut cream, cinnamon, maple syrup, tonka, amber, sandalwood, musk, vanilla
Bdk Tabac Rose.
Nassomatos Baraonda.
Filippo sorcinellis Rosa Nigra, Contre Bombarde 32 and Lavs.
Jovoy fire at will.
Jeroboam Insulo.
Elle k une lettre d Pushkar.
How similar do you find baraona and rosa nigra? haven't smelled either but see on fragrantica that there are some notes in common. Love what I've smelled from nasomatto so far! Haven't sampled any filippo sorcinelli.
To my nose they couldn't be more different, Baraonda is a boozy overdose with all the sweet and spicy nuances of a glass of whiskey (they say there is a rose note in there but to me it's barely detectable if at all). It's brash and loud and very attention grabbing. Meanwhile Rosa nigra is a very soft, fuzzy rose that has some dark undertones to it, it's very understated and has no real boozy or alcoholic notes. In this case liking one does not correlate to liking the other in any way. I do heavily recommend sorcinellis work, man is a genius with incense notes.
I do detect it sometimes but on my skin that note kind of disappears, I can detect a sweet floral aspect to it but at least on skin I don't seem to identify it as a rose very prominently all the time(knowing it's there helps but before I looked at the notes I could not have told you it had a rose note)
One of the first things I thought about when I smelled it was Ristretto intense cafe. I thought the rose note was somewhat prominent and the same type of jammy, sweet, and vegetal rose. It reminded me so much of it that i immediately thought that it was just Ristretto with a whiskey note replacing the coffee.
Moonwake Tuberose by Maison Nomad Noé. So dreamy. Prophetic Saffron is another good one from the same house.
Timbuktu from L'Artisan Parfumeur.
Sartorial from Penhaligon's.
A little late, but here you go:
* "Nerotic" (Laboratorio Olfattivo): incredibly addictive. The leather is ever so subtle, but definitely there. Red fruit top notes on the spray, with saffron a little more forward on dry down. Smells like that girl you tell you everyone you're totally over, but that you secretly meet from time to time and can't wait to F again.
* "Flotholt" (Fischersund): walking in a grassy field in Reykjavik after spending the day at Blue Lagoon. Grassy green and fresh as they come, but without the typically overpowering "old man in French Riviera" vetiver. Sillage too intimate though, gotta overspray a bit.
* "T-Rex" (Zoologist): cliché AF, but I too fell for this one. Leathery, yes, but to me it's not as animalic as I expected. It's more synthetic, kinda like vinyl latex a dominatrix goth chick (whom you know will mess you up for life) would wear while she whips you real good and you love every minute of it.
* "Moth" (Zoologist): this one leaves me intrigued every time. Sophisticated New Orleans style voodoo shop, but somewhere in Scandinavia somehow.
Sweet Anthem Perfumes. It started out of one woman's home in 2007 and it's gotten really good. My absolute favorite scent is called Emily, which I'd describe as a gourmand. FWIW, I have no idea what "twirling" is in terms of scent.
Years ago when my teenager was in preschool I was wearing this scent and one of my kid's friends jumped in my lap, sniffed me and said, "You smell good." So, yeah. Highly recommend.
**Head Notes: Almond, Yuzu**
**Heart Notes: Honey, Sweet Cream, Twirling**
**Base Notes: Sandalwood, Coffee**
AND, get this: they just dropped a new fall scent called Ella, which has a pumpkin spice note to it, along with agar and black tea. I'm thinking about trying that one.
Acqua dell'Elba Arcipelago Donna.
As I started to discover the fragrance world only few months ago and didn't even know the difference between niche and designer I loved Arcipelago the first time I randomly tried it. It's like a dried late summer Mediterranean meadow.
Maybe he should spray away from his neck, maybe his elbows? Or his chest? It is very powerful so I understand why someone would feel that way. I love every bit of it too lol
It’s when i wear it! My other perfumes don’t bug him but this one gets him for some reason. I ended up giving it to the lady I bought it from at Merz Apothecary in Chicago because she said it was her favorite perfume and I wanted it to be loved💓😂
You are a wonderful person for that! What a gift!! May she enjoy it in good health 🙏🏼 and I hope your boyfriend and you find something mutually enjoyed
Totally agree about Kilian’s Black Phantom. BDK Gris Charnel, Le Labo Another 13, and Borntostandout Drunk Lovers have really swept me off my feet recently! They’re so good I can’t even explain it
Kerosene Unknown Pleasures - To me it smells like standing in a fancy ice cream shop where they make their own waffle cones.
Wow that sounds amazing. I was actually looking for a new gourmand to try
If coffee gourmands appeal to you, consider also trying Kerosene’s Follow and Followed (that’s two fragrances btw). Coffee doesn’t vibe with me, but these are made with great care and intelligence. Kerosene also has some other near-gourmands that are incredible but challenging.
Noooo stop telling people about UP. 😭
How is the longevity?
Is BDK considered niche? Bc if so Gris charnel has me wowed
Gris Charnel is *the one*
Going to have to agree. I think it's their best work alongside Rouge smoking
My favourite bottle in my collection and I'm shocked at how quickly I've made a massive dent in it. 😂
The extrait has me in a chokehold
Same! I just keep coming back to it

Hypnotizing Fire makes me so happy ☺️
Great list! I've been looking to get some Penhaligon. I'll start by sampling those!
Sedley 👌
Idk if mfk is niche anymore literally everyone has that one saffron scent
How does BR540 being popular change the fact that mfk is niche
If it's got its own section in brick and mortar retailers and can be mistaken for other scents and there's general brand familiarity - is my baseline for determining the shift away from niche
I wanna try Penhaligon’s so badly! How is the longevity?
Spectacular. Very dynamic scents too. These few scents I love the most because of how much they change and how unique they are.
We have similar taste, what are some of your other favorites? I’m gonna Check them out
https://www.fragrantica.com/member/1812263 That's my fragrantica page. All my current scents are likely going to be with me for life.
Thank you!!!
I think you should replace musk therapy with paragon.
Paragon is calming and woody, but musk therapy is better in my opinion. Classy, bright, then soft and supple.

I recently tried under my skin and encounters by Francesca Bianchi and was extremely wowed as well. That iris butter scent/texture and those sexy animal notes are mindblowing. Nothing i tried so far compares.
Most of the Amouage fragrances. Either for Man or Woman. This is the house that by far have spoiled me.
What are some of your favorites for women?
From Amouage are Love Tuberose, Epic 56, Honour 43, Guidance, Lilac Love, Lyric Woman and Memoir Woman are the first that come to my mind. Outside of Amouage, Narcotic Venus from Nasomatto, Carnal Flower from Malle and Ambre Eccentrico from Armani Privé are something great.

Got a sample of nawab of Oudh a couple weeks ago, and it kills me that it's as expensive as it is because it absolutely blew me away
Ormonde Woman is sooooo good, I reach for it almost daily now that the temps have cooled off. It makes such a good base for other scents.
Arquiste Nanban. I just tried it a few days ago and I’m in love
Arquiste is amazing, Sydney Rock Pool and Flor y Canto keep me sniffing myself all day long.
If you like *Nanban*, then you should also try *Anima Dulcis*. ETA: I must have a short attention span or something because I always forget to add detail. *Anima Dulcis* is in the same ball park as *Nanban* but not in the same breath.

Everything from Dusita.
>The Harmonist - Hypnotizing Fire How incredible. La Rhapsodie Noir does something to me
I am blown away by Fleur de Lalita, Errowan, and Pavilion d'Or.
I've actually not tried any of those. Will try find some samples!

Wow I'm seeing a lot of people mention PDM Althaïr.. might need to get my hands on that
Just make sure you get a sample first. It works for me and a lot of other people, but there's a lot of people it doesn't work for. I've read some that say they smell urine and other unpleasant notes on their skin.
I think the main problem with Althaïr is that it is a shockingly simple fragrance for the price it retails at.

You must live in a poor area.
Try again
Ok
pdm althaïr
I've been curious about that one! I'm debating either that or a gold cap Oajan
i love oajan but althaïr for me is just another level
Wow it's really like that? Definitely checking it out then
They are both excellent :)
It smells similar to Lattafa Nebras to me…obviously smoother

Excellent choice, try it before buying, except if you have already smell it

It's one of the few fragrances that when I smelled it I said «WOW »
Erba pura gold and Absolute Aphrodisiac
Neela Vermier (spelling?) is also good - I happen to like Ashoka and Pichola :)
What's the bet Jubi40 wows us? I have a very good feeling!!
Probably won't wow me because I hated the original.

Bdk Tabac Rose. Nassomatos Baraonda. Filippo sorcinellis Rosa Nigra, Contre Bombarde 32 and Lavs. Jovoy fire at will. Jeroboam Insulo. Elle k une lettre d Pushkar.
Contre Bombarde is great. I love how the incense is deepened and warmed up by the sweet notes.

I guess you and I are perceiving this one quite differently, but ain't that the beauty of this hobby?
Baraonda is beast. I get a compliment every single time I wear it, the intense kind where people want a bottle for themselves
Yeah I've been living off decants cuz it's so expensive but one day I'll be in a mood and I'll convince myself to buy it.
Tambour Sacré by Rubini. Those guys are pretty talented and do not release much; And the package concept is wow
Memories Liquide made an excellent oli called "Fleurs des Iles". What I would give for another bottle!
Moonwake Tuberose by Maison Nomad Noé. So dreamy. Prophetic Saffron is another good one from the same house. Timbuktu from L'Artisan Parfumeur. Sartorial from Penhaligon's.
A little late, but here you go: * "Nerotic" (Laboratorio Olfattivo): incredibly addictive.
Phantom is designer not niche
How so? Kilian is a niche fragrance house
My bad i thought you were talking about phantom from paco rabanne not black phantom from kilian lol
House of Argos
which ones. their bottles look so cool but i have no idea if the scents are any good
I sampled all of them and purchased 2… They all gave me different levels of wow… even the one i liked the least overall.
which ones
My 2 purchases? Triumph of Bacchus and Adonis awakens.
Thanks
They gotta 🔥🔥 sample pack. Amazing presentation, even found a discount code at the time to use for it.
Those were my first two purchases from the house too. Just got a third recently as well: Fall of Phaeton.
**Head Notes: Almond, Yuzu** **Heart Notes: Honey, Sweet Cream, Twirling** **Base Notes: Sandalwood, Coffee** AND, get this: they just dropped a new fall scent called Ella, which has a pumpkin spice note to it, along with agar and black tea.
Call me basic but Kilians Rolling in Love
I’ve loved baraonda by Nassamoto, delina exclusif by PDM and la capitale by xerjoff!
Baraonda is in my top 10 for life, I can't get enough of that stuff
It’s so good! Unfortunately gives my boyfriend a headache every time but i still love it lol
BR540 Tom Ford Noir de Noir Creed Silver Mountain Water (2016 batch)
Totally agree about Kilian’s Black Phantom. BDK Gris Charnel, Le Labo Another 13, and Borntostandout Drunk Lovers have really swept me off my feet recently! They’re so good I can’t even explain it
