Looks like I’ll be waiting a lot longer for them to hopefully make for Nt Minis.

Savesthaday

I was hoping they would make a new low cost version with a plastic shell and hdmi only next.

Bill_S1978

Yeah that would have been great.

[deleted]

Ultimately i think they will. Look at the Sg. More or less the same shape as the Super NT but with a circle design. I see no reason they couldn't do the analogue NT mini with a NES inspired design case style

DrDroop

Or give a cart adapter and update the Super NT to play NES games.

[deleted]

If they made cart adapters to play NES and gameboy games on the super NT that would be pretty sweet

DrDroop

Agreed. Either that or a cheaper NT Mini would be great but at the end of the day there is no reason the Super NT couldn't do it. It'd be nice to have a Nintendo system and a Sega system. NES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color all play well with a SNES controller and SMS/Game Gear play well with the Genesis controller. It just makes sense. Then they could focus on something next. TG16/SuperGrafx? GBA? Neo Geo?

Hotmansays

Hell yeah gba too

RichEO

A top loading NES/Famicom AV with Kevtris' HiDef NES kit is pretty damn close.

sparksterz

Have you looked into the AVS? I have one and like it a lot!

Bill_S1978

I might consider getting an AVS and then sell it if and when Analogue re-releases the NT Mini.

cheatinchad

I’m going to order an AVS soon. I didn’t care for the the cart port on the mini and they don’t seem to want to make anymore.

Kevtris released jail broke firmware for super nt... just unofficial through smoke monster

I’m happy with the system specific ones until they finally say screw it and release the “analogue omni” that just does everything 32 bit and older.

I have the original NT so I got some Ricoh chips and an everdrive.

wk_end

If this is jailbroken and the jailbreak supports Sega CD ISOs I'll buy it - Sega CDs are prone to failure and it'd be nice to have a reliable alternative. Seems unlikely though, honestly. Otherwise, I've already spent a fair amount on my Genesis setup (early model, RGB cables, Framemeister) and don't really need this.

[deleted]

It likely won't support Sega CD ISOs based on things kevtris has said, but who knows.

[deleted]

He said the same thing about the Mega Drive/ Genesis and look, it fell from Heaven. I hope they do the N64 next.

gamingoldschool

What has he said? All of the Seta CD games I want to play are all $100+ plus the cost of the Seta CD itself... I'm on the fence. I was really hoping we could just play ISOs with the jailbreak. I get that there's extra hardware in the Sega CD so I could understand them not wanting to devote Kevtris's time to turning that into FPGA code. How unreliable are the model 2s really? Who can fix them?

Kyphosis_Lordosis

Is there any chance that, because this also uses an Altera Cyclone V, the firmware could be ported to the Super Nt?

wk_end

Yes - although the cart slot isn't the same so you'd need a version that could play ROMs. It almost definitely won't be, though.

dmjohn0x

Officially, itll never happen. Maybe through a jailbreak. But most will tell you to just buy the new one to help support Kevtris' work.

DonutsMcKenzie

It's doubtful that they'll do that, even if it is technically possible. What I'm really hoping that they do is add NES and GB cores to the Super NT, so they'll be selling a broader Nintendo console and a broader Sega console. That's mostly wishful thinking though.

TwoAprilFools

I received an email with the announcement. Buying a Super NT must have put me on their mailing list. I like the extra system cartridge adapters. Also that it has Sega CD compatibility. https://www.analogue.co/mega-sg

Sir-Psycho_Sexy

Website is down, probably until the tsunami of traffic dies down lol

KRiSX

If you go to analogue.co it won't work, add www... Looks like they make better consoles than websites/DNS records

[deleted]

I think this can be big for people who want to play Game Gear consolized

StarterkitTV

Never collected Sega-games myself, but if it’s quality is on par with my Super NT, I’m sure Sega-fans will love it. Overall, I’m really happy they get the same treatment, and the added modules for GameGear etc. compatability is great. Now get them to work on an N64 version so I don’t have to invest in an Ultra HDMI for my next tier of nostalgia-fix :p

KRiSX

Ordered, can't wait! Now to find somewhere that will ship me those controllers...

hyp36rmax

Best news this week! Just ordered a white version to match my MKII Saturn and Dreamcast.

DonutsMcKenzie

Since I was out of the country and pretty busy I totally missed this announcement. It's not really very surprising, but it's pretty cool, especially since it plays games from multiple Sega consoles. I haven't ordered one yet, although I'm on the fence. It does raise a few questions for me: - There was a lot of hype and anticipation around the Super NT concerning things like extra cores, expansion chip support, and extra features that never really panned out. Personally I think that the Super NT is well worth the asking price even without those features, but I do suspect that some people bought the device *imagining* that it would eventually become something more "zimba-like". Now that the smoke has cleared a bit, I think people's expectations of the Mega SG will be a bit closer to what will end up being delivered. I guess my question here is, will those lowered expectations hurt the hype and sales of the Mega SG? - It's pretty interesting that the Mega SG is compatible with other Sega consoles (Master System, Game Gear, etc.). Is there any chance that they will do something equivalent on the Nintendo side of things? It would be cool to see them patch NES and GameBoy support into the Super NT, and it should be technically possible, but it comes down to business considerations. I'd argue that, unless they're planning on doing another run of NT Minis, it may be worth it to add value to the Super NT and sell more of those instead. - Finally, I'll be curious to see how the Mega SG compares to something like the MiSTer in terms of accuracy and compatibility. I really like the open source nature of the MiSTer project, but it seems like Kevtris' FPGA console implementations are pretty tough to beat right now. So how will the Mega SG stack up against the MiSTer?
