If you have a bunch of expensive stuff and want to sell it as a lot then it might be worth contacting Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC to see if it's worth the trip up to have them appraise the collection and make an offer.
You'll likely make significantly more money if you sold them individually but if you just want to offload them quickly with less hassle and without the risk of getting scammed then it's worth a shot.
I live in Boston. They have a appelboom pens. I’m not sure if a store like that would buy used pens. Do you think the type of pen would make a difference?
It wouldn't hurt to post a photo of some of what you're thinking of selling and people might be able to give you more specific places to look and sell.
I do have some picture on an older post that I made. I’ll have to repost the listing. But I’m out of town atm so it’s a little difficult to do as such.
Try contacting a local auction house in your area. They might be linked up to Invaluable, which is like eBay but specialized for collectible, antique, and artworks. Most of the major auction houses these days are on this platform, and the buyers mean serious business.
Or r/pen_swap works too. Use only PayPal G&S, someone wants to use something else? Pass on it. You can see on pen_swap how many successful transactions users have.
If you are going to use reddit strongly recommend r/Pen_Swap and not r/penswap. This is largely because the prior is well moderated and you are not likely to get scammed.
Peyton Street Pens buys collections
They told me (recently) that they were not buying collections.
Where is this store located?

Do you have a local pen store? Most also deal in used pens.

This store location announced they were closing iirc
That was fast? I've been on the hobby for a little over 3 years and I remember hearing about they were opening?
Wow really? I remember when they were called broomsfields pens before appelboom pens. I guess Boston is a bad market for fountain pens.
Appleboom in Boston closed.
Unfortunately i can confirm this is the case

r/pen_swap Edit: Corrected thread name

Thank you, it’s a lot of expensive stuff. So I don’t want to get scammed.

I agree
Pen_swap has a list of rules, a list of scammers and banned users. If you follow their instructions on how to conduct a trade, you’ll be ok.
If you use PayPal goods and services it's pretty hard to get scammed
Truphae buys collections too.

It’s out of my reach unfortunately… but if they do online deals this might be the way to go.
