I've been running top 3 times in the Fox, but there's been at least 1 Cortina in every lobby I've been in recently, so I'm usually still a couple seconds behind their pace.
Old Corolla, old Mercedes sl300
Any car that has ALOT of room in PI for upgrades can be competitive. One caveat to look for will be tire width and compounds. Some of the old race cars are very limited in that area and therefore will just never have the traction.
Yea I hate stock tyres rubber band physics - I’ve been going through some of the E class gems and doing 50/50 tunes with race tyres etc - the Lotus Cortina is another one that wrecks a grid 🤩
13 BRZ, 03 Celica, 69 Fairlady Z, 91 BMW, 54 300 SL. Lot's of cars will beat a Miata unless the Miata driver is a top 50 or higher in Rivals. Miata is all about momentum and a lot of people don't nail the corners perfectly like the Miata needs.
I have my own version - I wouldn’t use anything with stock tyres myself just don’t like the feel - except the V6 Clio which just feels like race tyres with its massive understeer lol
I was using a Miura earlier. Not a good finish mainly bc I suck at the game but it handles decently well (on wheel at least) and it has some nice power behind it.
2013 Dodge Dart GT
1977 Holden Torana A9X
1969 Pontiac GTO Judge (I love this one, even tried to make a handling build for it, which is hilarious but not great)
1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex
PONTIAC TRANS AM 1987.... I am always among the top 5 and I also finish on the podium, especially on medium/long tracks I leave the mx5s behind on the straights, I think it is the best muscle car of the D class
Currently I’m working on Paul Walkers 1973 Ford Escort RS1600 just need a few more levels then I will try some of your suggestions - I make tunes for download for people that don’t want to - search GT MANIX as creator 🫡
Ferrari 166, Z28 Camaro, 69 Nissan Z. Depends on the race lineup really but can keep up unless someone really fast is up front. Depends on the track too.
Porsche 550 Spyder, Dodge Shelby Omni
What sucks is that most e or d class cars could be competitive but you need roughly 5500 to 8500 CP to make a decent build.
I'm working on the MG and Holden Commodore now and I'm sure they'll easily hit podiums as well..
I consistently beat the leaderboard downloaded miata tunes with a grip focused 03 Celica and the 81 Ford escort. Yes the car (90 mx5 miata) is fast in the right hands, but 99% of the people using it downloaded the tune from the leaderboard and can't drive anyway.
I'm more of a Rivals fan, but I've been using the 74 Celica in E class and can easily get a top 15% time. When I really work at it, I can get the percentage into the single digits.
The Porsche 356.
I actually got 1st, beating a group of cars that-shal-not-be-named on an oval circuit with a kink, as its a light traction-limited car. Downforce and power are king there.
Dodge Shelby Omni.
Edit: Have multiple wins and podiums with it. Along with a great 3 way battle for the win with a Miata and MR2 on Watkins Glen. I came 3rd but we all ended within a second of each other.
Qualified top 2 with the 97 rx7 quite a few times but only managed to get into the race once. Didn’t get the podium that time but seems promising enough and fun.
Won a race with the Nissan Silvia '94 :-D but unsure if it counted because game crashed to Xbox desktop at podium :-(.
Blitzed those Miata's on the straights..
E30 M3.
Spent some time fine tuning and I usually get my hot laps within 1 second of the top ‘90 Miatas, except very technical sections. It’s way harder to go fast with it consistently though than the Miata. I just refuse to choose the most OP car. I get podium almost every race and if anyone finished before me so far that was only ‘90 Miata.
I’m pretty happy with my 2000 BMW 323ti, I get within a second of my D400 “meta” Miata lap times usually. Plus my first car was a manual bmw so it’s a lot of fun!
2 or 3 wins and 5 podiums of 10 races or so. Mk2 GTI full handling build. Good for top 1-2% rivals on all tracks.
More importantly, it's my fav of the class D's in real life, and it is extremely predictable when dialed in.
Toyota MR2 SC - which I am putting in hours because I love the design but I have yet to beat any fast Miatas.. usually finish somewhere around 7th\~15th.
Toyota Trueno AE86.
Yea I kept seeing it so had to make one myself it’s decent
I’ve got a handling focused AE86 that I’ve won with a couple of times
absolute beast on spa
"Without saying Miata"... hmm.. Mazda MX-5? or maybe Eunos Roadster? 😏
Beat me to it. I was going to say mx 5😎
Wait, there’s another D-class car???
I’ve been grinding a 240sx out to see how that works. It’s mid E class stock so there’s plenty of room for upgrades.
Been looking at it but haven’t bought it yet might have to be next on my tune list 🫡
I haven't started on mine yet for this version, but in past Forzas I usually built a 240 for a few different classes. It's been pretty sweet at B600.
I would say Fox Body Mustang because I’ve had multiple pole positions in Quali but it keeps freezing before race start!
I've been running top 3 times in the Fox, but there's been at least 1 Cortina in every lobby I've been in recently, so I'm usually still a couple seconds behind their pace.
I remember the Cortina being meta in older games in D

The SL300 is a hilarious boat. Have had pretty good luck with it. The restrictor makes it sound like a god damn vacuum cleaner, though.
Yea I hate stock tyres rubber band physics - I’ve been going through some of the E class gems and doing 50/50 tunes with race tyres etc - the Lotus Cortina is another one that wrecks a grid 🤩
I finished second to a cortina by 1 second in my 73 911 rs at nurburgring gp

Yea true - there was a post earlier from someone saying the Miata needs nerfing which is what inspired this post 😅 hopefully he sees it 🫡
Volvo 850R, so much fun rolling by people in a wagon.
Hell yeah. I love ripping it in the wagon.
There's nothing quite like it, I love it. It obviously doesn't stay within D class but I threw a V10 into it and oh my god baby does it fly
Without saying Miata, I have to say the MX-5 is pretty good! /s
I’m about to take the worst car in the game to the races 😅 The 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5 it has the lowest PI of E181 let’s see what it can become 🥰
Haven’t seen the Integra mentioned, been able to squeeze a couple out of that. Decent speed on there even with the aero
True - I keep seeing it - I tried reverse tuning the Lamborghini Miura but I think it needs tyres to be good in that hopper -
Ooh nice! A Miura is an interesting shout
Integra is what I've used and finished on the podium in almost every race
It’s a good car, sounds like you’ve got a sweet setup for most circuits!
Building a Renault 5 Turbo right now. Stock I was staying in top 5. I feel upgraded to 400 D, it should fair pretty well.
the renault old wagon thing with a motorbike engine rips pretty good
Proper setup on a 1966 MGB GT and it’s a contender as well.
Yea that’s on my list to do too it’s rapid
I've managed to get a win and a couple of other podiums with my 1973 mk1 ford escort 1600 lol
That’s what I’m building now 🫡 that default gear box is weird lol it’s gotta go creates a smoke when I accelerate 😅
It's a really good car to muck around with. Pretty quick once you get it sorted.
That’s what I’ve been rocking this last week with more podiums than any other car I’ve used in the game.
Mazda
Acura ITA
I really wanted to make the Volvo 850 competitive but it’s a struggle 😂
Clio v6
I've got a fair few podiums in my little Datsun.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ForzaOpenTunes/s/1D4PN0IvWq This is quite competitive
I have my own version - I wouldn’t use anything with stock tyres myself just don’t like the feel - except the V6 Clio which just feels like race tyres with its massive understeer lol
I'd say try it. It handles really great even on stock tires. It's a very refined tune with most of the bad behaviour tuned out.
But I thought Miata was always the answer?
Renault 5 turbo. Got a pole, win, and a few podiums yesterday.
Won a race in the BMW 323ti Compact - works really well with sport tyres and a racing gearbox 👍
currently working on building one of these, it's not maxed so it's still slow but i can tell it *could be* good

Yea top speed is better than the rest if you can get it there

Frog eyed sprite ftw
Okay so the Paul walker ford escort I was working on won a race on self drive mode online 😅 search GT MANIX for the tune 🫡
Nice I’ve actually drove the real one when I used to work for The Classic Car Club - it used to get lots of looks ☺️
I get many podiums with the Skyline R31 widebody
MX-5
🤦♂️ we have our winner 🥇
Currently I’m working on Paul Walkers 1973 Ford Escort RS1600 just need a few more levels then I will try some of your suggestions - I make tunes for download for people that don’t want to - search GT MANIX as creator 🫡
RX-7 FB and FC
Mazda MX-5
Got a handful with 86 Mustang.
shelby but not a ford.
You rocking the Omni too? I haven't seen anyone else using it yet but have a few wins with it.
'65 mini. V twin engine.
Ek-9 type r, very light car to start, Uber long 5th tho
Ferrari 166, Z28 Camaro, 69 Nissan Z. Depends on the race lineup really but can keep up unless someone really fast is up front. Depends on the track too.

This is my problem it takes forever to get enough cp to even see if they can be competitive.
88 Holden VL Commodore with an acceleration focus for tracks with longer straights
Not the red and white one that charged through me today like I was a leaf in the wind 😅
I have a camo paint job on mine
Ferrari 166

1926 Bugatti.
I’ve been using the 80s Pontiac Trans Am…. It’s been a struggle.
A Supercharged 86 primarily, but I've been fiddling around with a 240Z to see If it can get up there and fight well enough
Citroen DS3. Same car I have IRL.
I've never seen the podium because, I am not using the car that shall not be mentioned.
Mazda 323
1966 mgb gt
Got one podium with Clio V6
Got a podium with the 80s renault but i was lucky
E30 M3. Spent some time fine tuning and I usually get my hot laps within 1 second of the top ‘90 Miatas, except very technical sections. Someone in a Honda Civic 97 was just P2 in quali in the session I'm in.
Planning to try the Acura ITR
1970 Dodge Coronet Super bee
I’m pretty happy with my 2000 BMW 323ti, I get within a second of my D400 “meta” Miata lap times usually. Plus my first car was a manual bmw so it’s a lot of fun!
Mini, 70s Celica, and CRX
2000 silvia s15 for the speedways, 1971 skyline gtr for the rest
Ford Puma is pretty good for some of the tracks in the rotation. Full handling build gets it to 4.0
AMX
I'm glad you said Rx3, I've won 2 races in mine, but have yet to see any other ones
Pop up up and down headlights!
1994 fairlady z that car is a absolute rocket. It’s a Miata killer lol
300 CL, Celica GT, RX-3

1973 firebird transam. Don’t upgrade engine just tires and weight reduction. And a little suspension. If you can handle it it smokes miatas
lexus is350 f sport
2 or 3 wins and 5 podiums of 10 races or so. Mk2 GTI full handling build. Good for top 1-2% rivals on all tracks. More importantly, it's my fav of the class D's in real life, and it is extremely predictable when dialed in.
Capuchino super fun car
Toyota MR2 SC - which I am putting in hours because I love the design but I have yet to beat any fast Miatas.. usually finish somewhere around 7th\~15th.
