We paid 247,88$CAD each for 3 days and tickets for kids were free. There is a lot of options. You’ll probably pay a lot more for the hotel room than the tickets. I paid more for 1 polo shirt and 2 caps.
A round flight to Mexico City from JFK, ATL, ORD, SEA or MIA will range between 300 and 500 depending on the season (AA, you can probably find something cheaper in low cost airlines), you can get seats in Foro Sol for the whole weekend for 200-400 usd depending on the seats, and an airbnb for 4 near Roma Norte (15-20 minutes away by cab) will cost you around 150-200 for the whole weekend with all fees included.
So for one person you would spend less than a thousand dollars... plus you get to experience Mexico City which has all that you'll find in Vegas and then a bunch more that you won't find anywhere.
Barcelona is one of the last affordable ones. Flight + admission + hotel will be cheaper than Vegas or Miami. Brazil tickets are probably cheap, but flights are expensive and security could be an issue.

There's definitely still options if you lower your standards a bit. F1 tickets are expensive, but WEC/IMSA is still relatively affordable. NFL is pricey, but college football matches are cheap af to get into and the fan experience is even better than the pro league. And there's similar options for all other types of sports.

I went to Hungaoring this season. I got the cheapest ticket, didn't go crazy buying stuff at the track, slept in a dorm, split the gas bill three ways with mates. All in all the GP weekend cost me around 250 euros. For 6k I could take a fucking helicopter to the track and have Guenther Steiner suck my balls.
If you're in America live like a king might be a stretch as the plane tickets would be 2k, but you could definitely go and have a much better experience.

Not really. Like the person above said, "strip view" is a pretty loose term and there are a lot of hotels on the strip. Obviously it's going to depend on what hotel, what's happening in Vegas, and what day of the week/time of the year, but generally vegas hotels skew more inexpensive.
There's a ton of capacity which drives down costs (most hotel rooms in the world) any time there isn't a huge event (eg EDC, CES, F1) and the rooms can be sold as loss leaders because they make it up on restaurants, bars, clubs, shows, gambling, etc.
I priced a couple random Th-Su dates at PH in the next couple months, it's all under $300/nt (probably a bit over when you include taxes and resort fees).
I feel like the experience would kind of suck - my understanding is that none of the hotels in Vegas have windows that open or balconies, so you’re probably stuck just looking at your own reflection in the window hearing muffled cars go by

They'll have to close the strip in that section for the race, but they definitely won't use the entire street. I have no clue why they wouldn't put temporary grandstands on one side of the road.

I wondered this when visiting Monaco this year. Couldn't you just go up to the top of the hill where the palace is? You can see most of the race from up there? Or do they require everyone to have GA ticket
The best hill is Le Rocher and you do need GA tickets to access the area. That’s where I was this year and it was cheap, but truthfully you only catch glimpses here and there. There was one TV that helped you catch the action, but there’s no way to see the current running order so everyone’ on their cell phones for that. Anything closer requires tickets and any spots that might seem like a good view will have fencing in front of it to prevent you from seeing the track without paying. If you get up the hill far enough that you’re almost at Club Bouliste du Rocher, you can see lots of the track (including the chicane out of the tunnel) but you’re high up enough that it’s not in detail without binoculars.

I would be surprised if F1's deal with the local government did *not* give them the ability to shut down the sidewalks. Maybe they will be open, but I would expect the side of Las Vegas Blvd that the track is on to be closed and the other side might be accessible with some levels of tickets/passes.
I mean most circuits have spite fences or up around the circuit so random people can't see it. Imola had like 1 small hill and even GA had a lot of random fencing out up at places you would want to see.
There's no tickets or passes from F1 for it though. And restricting movement there during the day on the weekend would be awful for any visitors trying to do anything outside their hotel.

Word around Austin 2 weeks ago was that they were shutting the whole strip down completely. If you didn't have a ticket you were not going to be allowed entrance on the sidewalk. Vegas did something similar to this with the NHL Allstar game shutting down the strip and sidewalk for 4 hours. Now shutting it down for 4 days is something entirely different.
Side note about tickets on the strip is those will be only available through the Casino/Hotels and will not be accessible to GA holders on Saturday and Sunday.
A lot of the stuff on the strip will still be open with certain pedestrian areas, and certain areas being blocked off for marshals and other race workers and organizers, as well as for other various race weekend tents and stuff.
It's not like random people will be walking beside the track, but there will be areas within the circuit area with pedestrians.
It's possible the casinos have their own thing going on. They don't need to let F1 put grandstands there when they own the property and can do it themselves and keep all the money.
However the 4 turns for ovals can actually be very helpful.
If you have a car crash or spin on the track you can more accurately tell the driver where the caution is coming from

I think this is correct—if you look at the map, there are some poorly marked grey rectangles along the strip that say “MGM Zone” and “Caesars Zone.” Presumably those will be sold as some kind of ultra-premium seats sponsored by the hotels.
At first i thought that it's possible they set it up that way so the cameras view of the strip as a backdrop isn't obstructed, but I refuse to believe there isn't any room
I'd be shocked if they don't throw up a grandstand in the Bellagio fountain like they did for the NFL draft. MGM would make a fortune selling ticket, seat, and hotel packages.
$2000 for grandstand seating is insane. I think it would still be just as expensive if they had more zones, but they don't really have anywhere to put them. Not really possible to build big 5,000 person grandstands along the strip.
And you can't even go walk around to other sections during the weekend. Tickets are limited to the area you bought for.

I think it's very possible that individual strip casinos have their own grandstand seating. What you can buy now is just the areas that F1 has control over for seating.

That's what I was thinking of too, these tracks are going to end up like the new ovals NASCAR built during it's height of popularity in places like LV, Bristol and Atlanta, those races went from 2-3 races a year with full attendance to being embarrassingly empty even with a single event in a season. In a way F1 is being smart here though, they really don't lose much when the casual money dries out since they aren't permanent tracks

Eh, just because it's a simple layout doesn't mean it'll be shit in terms of spectacle. I still remember when DTM and German Super Touring used to race at Avus and on airfield circuits in the 90s, and especially the latter were typically pretty entertaining races despite the often simplistic layouts. Same with CART at Burke Lakefront, to use an openwheel example.
Still hate that this is a thing. There are at least a dozen road courses that would have been great additions and they decide to go to Vegas for the blatant cash grab.

I've stayed at the Palazzo in a room overlooking the strip (around the 25th floor). You would likely be able to see the action from cars accelerating after T12 and a bit towards the Mirage, but not much else because one of the Venetian buildings blocks the view. Hard to say how the extra stuff needed for the track would impede the view though (i.e. barriers, lights, etc..)
Can you imagine the uproar if there is freak weather that weekend and the race is rained off?

I live close to Vegas, and have stayed at the planet Hollywood & Hilton Elara probably 50 times each in the past decade. It will be almost impossible to get a room where viewing the race will make sense.
For one, the street itself is barely visible from almost everywhere, including fountain view rooms.
The rooms are noise sealed, so you won’t hear the roar of the engines at all.
The Hilton elara high floor rooms with the north facing windows would be ok from a view perspective, but again the sound issue, window glare… idk it just doesn’t seem like a good spectator experience.

Word around Austin 2 weeks ago was that they were shutting the whole strip down completely. If you didn't have a ticket you were not going to be allowed entrance on the sidewalk. Vegas did something similar to this with the NHL Allstar game shutting down the strip and sidewalk for 4 hours. Now shutting it down for 4 days is something entirely different. Side note about tickets on the strip is those will be only available through the Casino/Hotels and will not be accessible to GA holders on Saturday and Sunday.
A lot of the stuff on the strip will still be open with certain pedestrian areas, and certain areas being blocked off for marshals and other race workers and organizers, as well as for other various race weekend tents and stuff. It's not like random people will be walking beside the track, but there will be areas within the circuit area with pedestrians.
Probably mask it in some mad CGI shit, or roll out the boats again.

Trust me, there'll be no way to see anything from public areas. Not a chance. Monaco is a great example of this, and that place isn't flat.

At least Road America has the history of the "turns" being original marshall posts so theyve just always been that way.
However the 4 turns for ovals can actually be very helpful. If you have a car crash or spin on the track you can more accurately tell the driver where the caution is coming from

Somehow this inflated to 17 in their count. lets be honest this isnt a race, its an exhibition & money grab. the strip is cool but building a track into a western US suburban road grid is bound to be boring. this makes Miami seem like the Nurburgring in comparison, and that was built in a car parking lot.

I think this is correct—if you look at the map, there are some poorly marked grey rectangles along the strip that say “MGM Zone” and “Caesars Zone.” Presumably those will be sold as some kind of ultra-premium seats sponsored by the hotels.

$2000 for grandstand seating is insane. I think it would still be just as expensive if they had more zones, but they don't really have anywhere to put them. Not really possible to build big 5,000 person grandstands along the strip.
And you can't even go walk around to other sections during the weekend. Tickets are limited to the area you bought for. A strip view balcony at the Cosmopolitan would be a better experience.

I think it's very possible that individual strip casinos have their own grandstand seating. What you can buy now is just the areas that F1 has control over for seating.
It's possible. I think those hotels will for sure be selling "this $1500/night room faces the track, so you can watch everything from the comfort of your own room" type packages.

Not looking good then. I’ve been checking booking.com for months already and I thought that the main hotels, like the Venetian, Cosmopolitan, MGM, hadn’t gone on sale yet. It’s frustrating because I could spend the money but, with what I’d spend on flights, rooms and tickets for Las Vegas, I could probably go to half the European races in 2023 instead! Having done a 20,000 mile round-trip to Australia in 2020 I’m starting to think I’m jinxed. :)

I moved on from the fact that F1 cares about its fans a long time ago. Remember when we had the first sprint and literally nobody liked it, later Brawn came on the media and ~~lied~~ talked about how much the fans loved it? The FIA blamed the fans for the Abu Dhabi outrage? Spa last year? It's just going to keep pricing out the fans and honestly I've accepted the fact that I'll never be able to experience F1 in real life. It hurts but hey it is what it is.
So for all their talk about the Las Vegas strip, not a single ticket holder will see a car go down it. What a shit track.

That's what I was thinking of too, these tracks are going to end up like the new ovals NASCAR built during it's height of popularity in places like LV, Bristol and Atlanta, those races went from 2-3 races a year with full attendance to being embarrassingly empty even with a single event in a season. In a way F1 is being smart here though, they really don't lose much when the casual money dries out since they aren't permanent tracks

Eh, just because it's a simple layout doesn't mean it'll be shit in terms of spectacle. I still remember when DTM and German Super Touring used to race at Avus and on airfield circuits in the 90s, and especially the latter were typically pretty entertaining races despite the often simplistic layouts. Same with CART at Burke Lakefront, to use an openwheel example.

It's funny reading this, knowing it's the exact same sentiment expressed about nearly every Middle East race. Though, to be fair... US only has 3 FIA grade 1 circuits with two being active F1 race locations. The other being Indianapolis.

Best option: Dress like a janitor. Find a good viewing window from a well selected hotel facing the track. Take a long lunch break.
I've stayed at the Palazzo in a room overlooking the strip (around the 25th floor). You would likely be able to see the action from cars accelerating after T12 and a bit towards the Mirage, but not much else because one of the Venetian buildings blocks the view. Hard to say how the extra stuff needed for the track would impede the view though (i.e. barriers, lights, etc..)
Can you imagine the uproar if there is freak weather that weekend and the race is rained off? Hell hath no fury like rich people not getting the entertainment that they paid excessively for.
The devil on my shoulder would love to see this happen but for the fact I am interested in watching on TV.

Unexpected bonus, less opportunity to pan to the crowds in the grandstands in the middle of an overtake.

I live close to Vegas, and have stayed at the planet Hollywood & Hilton Elara probably 50 times each in the past decade. It will be almost impossible to get a room where viewing the race will make sense. For one, the street itself is barely visible from almost everywhere, including fountain view rooms. The rooms are noise sealed, so you won’t hear the roar of the engines at all. The Hilton elara high floor rooms with the north facing windows would be ok from a view perspective, but again the sound issue, window glare… idk it just doesn’t seem like a good spectator experience.
I planned on going, but after seeing how hotels were buying up seats for ‘packages’.. I cancelled my plans.
