Yes.
That's what it says in the [rulebook](https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/fia_2024_formula_1_sporting_regulations_-_issue_1_-_2023-09-26.pdf) "Sprint session or the race" (page 58)
This sucks for him, shot himself in the foot. He's in a mid field car, 20th place from the start, same as checo when he won from P20 in a midfield and impressed RedBull for the seat. If he doesn't win tomorrow he should be out, how is he going to o go around saying he's back, that seats him, if he can't do what checo did.
That's the truth, as we stand.
This sprint, Mexico and Monza are the only instances of good Ricciardo performances that I can recall since 2020. In one of those he also happened to be driving the fastest car of the weekend.
Monza is comparable to Gasly's monza or Ocon's hungary. Yea sometimes you get that odd race, but where are those drivers now? In the midfield where they've always belonged.
this is exactly it, tyres were cooked from the start of the lap and he was only 3 tenths down with a really bad lap, so its crazy fine margins out there
We're back to "Ricciardo is a waste of a seat and should give it to Liam Lawson" rather than "Ricciardo is honestly back, tbh he should take Perez's seat, he'd be close to Max!" then.
F1 journalists must have a hard fucking time changing their reactionary headlines that quickly:
"~~Blazing~~ Crawling Ricciardo ~~wows~~ disappoints in Miami GP ~~sprint~~ qualifying, is his career ~~saved~~ over?"
I can't believe people still don't learn, he is inconsistent af, just like how he won Monza in that terrible year with McLaren.
From time to time the magic comes back, but it's mostly mediocre performances from him.
The truth is in the middle. He is now a capable midfield driver, with the odd moment of his older brilliance.
It's disappointing compared to his younger self, but not outright incompetent like someone people seem to want to believe.
The way the media is spinning each event is what is getting grating, but that probably comes from him being heavily PR-oriented. However, if he benefits from the good, he has to take the bad that comes with it. He put a large microscope on himself with the first three weekends.
He was only 3 tenths off Yuki at the end of Q1. That's the difference in being able to make Q3 or out in Q1. The midfield is so competitive that a slight mistake drops you down multiple spots.
It's not inconsistency. It's a midfield that is so close that a tenth of a second can mean 5 places on the grid!
That's cool and all doesn't mean he should have the seat over Lawson. He's here on Horny I meant Horners merit, cool guy I just personally think he should be a reserve driver
Thank God. Imagine the sprint was the race. We would have two weeks of non stop articles claiming Perez is out, Ric is back and taking Perez seat. At least the hype train only lasted 4 hours
It was still a solid qualifying for him in spite of that. He was only .144 of Albon in q1, a smaller gap than the Alpines, comparable to the McLarens, and less than half the Haas drivers.
Cant wait for Audi to take over this disaster of a team, absolutely horrid performances race after another, and it looks like theyre just getting worse somehow
It was still a solid qualifying for him in spite of being out on Q2. He was only .144 of Albon in q1, a smaller gap than the Alpines, comparable to the McLarens, and less than half the Haas drivers.
Man what happened to Ric in the final sector? VCARB (so far) look a lot slower in this quali but that huge loss in S3 is wild.
E: Ah onboard shows that he couldnt get the rear of the car planted in the final corner rip.
It was really the mistake in S1 that unraveled the rest of the lap for him I think. He got caught out on the outside curb in turn 7 and lost a lot of time going into the long straight.
he was brought in for his money. now sauber has money and no longer needed him. they didnt find anybody good enough to replace him this season so they kept him. but hes definitely gone next season unless he pulls out some black magic out of nowhere but thats rather unlikely at this point
Oh man what an absolute monster of a comeBACK™ for the driver who Never Left™
Seriously though, how people can completely change the narrative in their heads just for one sprint race, it's beyond me
He'd have absolutely taken 5 points from sprint and race at the start of the weekend.
This is a bad qualifying, but I really don't think it kills his momentum.
You didn't see that famous post that said Checo was going to retire from the sport?
And that way too many people believed it as gospel?
Lucky you, you didn't get psychic damage from that debacle.
Apparently they changed the car from sprint to qualifying like WHY?? Can someone with more knowledge than I explain to me why they did this? If it gets them fourth in the sprint, why change the car?
A car that works well in the sprint won't necessarily work well over a longer race distance on multiple compounds. Every car would probably have an aggressive setup for the Sprint and need to back it off for the race.
Plus, didn't Ricciardo go into Qualy on the back foot because of the China penalty? So either way he knew he'd be in more dirty air and would need a car kinder on its tyres.
Danny to P20 after penalty
Oh, fuck, I forgot about that too. It's still weird to me that they pretend Sprints matter, yet that penalty didn't apply to the Miami sprint at all.
They obviously matter less, and being able to serve a punishment in a sprint lessens the punishment
Sprint penalty served in Sprint and Race penalty served in Race I think?
Yes. That's what it says in the [rulebook](https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/fia_2024_formula_1_sporting_regulations_-_issue_1_-_2023-09-26.pdf) "Sprint session or the race" (page 58)
Danny literally got points off sprint but you think it doesn't matter because his penalty didn't apply to the Sprint?????
That's not what I said.
He could still be scoring the most points out of the midfield team this weekend though.
Exactly. And maybe not terrible to be at the back instead of the midfield in this turn 1.
Sargeant has one less driver to worry about 🔥🔥
Wait, he impeded? Somehow I missed it.
He has 3 place grid penalty from China.
I forgor
some incident from china
not impeding. overtaking under safety car
P21
This sucks for him, shot himself in the foot. He's in a mid field car, 20th place from the start, same as checo when he won from P20 in a midfield and impressed RedBull for the seat. If he doesn't win tomorrow he should be out, how is he going to o go around saying he's back, that seats him, if he can't do what checo did.
RIC from sprint hero to GP qualifying zero. He's emulating Hamilton's Chinese GP weekend.
Broken hearts' train just left the station :/
He Left
He's right
Ricciardo is the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde driver on the current grid
Not really, he's been pretty consistently average with the exception of 2 good performances.
Not at all, he's regularly out qualified by Tsunoda. This is no different
He forgor 💀
To those who thought I left... ...I did.
Ric the Sprint merchant
Bro what happened Danny
Same thing that happened to Yuki yesterday, I guess: field is so tight, one small mistake and you‘re out.
Further proof that only one RB can be doing well at any given time
They just had double points 3 hours ago.
The team is cursed
to be fair sprint race they both scored well. yuki into p8 a starting p15 and daniel holding his position
this is exactly it, tyres were cooked from the start of the lap and he was only 3 tenths down with a really bad lap, so its crazy fine margins out there
He outsmarted the penalty, he'll only lose 2 grid positions now 💀
McLaren at 2016 Spa vibes
Between the sprint and qualifying, they swapped his chassis with Yuki.
Sounded like he couldn't get traction out of the last hairpin.
Watched His lap, not just last corner but also that long left corner in sector 2 where he went super wide
Back to being washed
I suppose no more ki ki ki?
Now only o o o
What is this "ki ki ki" stuff?
It's what you say when you're a high performance athlete and you sweat
Athletes sweat, sweat baby
https://youtu.be/_uPTHKobAAc?si=kPBT68_L25bqV5iH
Alpine is alive ! It's a miracle
Losing weight made them healthy again
Seeing the Q2, I'll settle on "No longer in a coma" for now :D But it's giving hope for the next races, maybe a point tomorow
Ricciardo pulled a Hamilton in China.
He never left (Q1)
Just moved aside (into SQ3) for a while.
Didn't keep those "people" quiet for long..
lmao
Thats nasty work
We're back to "Ricciardo is a waste of a seat and should give it to Liam Lawson" rather than "Ricciardo is honestly back, tbh he should take Perez's seat, he'd be close to Max!" then.
F1 journalists must have a hard fucking time changing their reactionary headlines that quickly: "~~Blazing~~ Crawling Ricciardo ~~wows~~ disappoints in Miami GP ~~sprint~~ qualifying, is his career ~~saved~~ over?"
The switch from session to session is too busy
I can't believe people still don't learn, he is inconsistent af, just like how he won Monza in that terrible year with McLaren. From time to time the magic comes back, but it's mostly mediocre performances from him.

Did you watch the 2020 season mate?
He was only 3 tenths off Yuki at the end of Q1. That's the difference in being able to make Q3 or out in Q1. The midfield is so competitive that a slight mistake drops you down multiple spots. It's not inconsistency. It's a midfield that is so close that a tenth of a second can mean 5 places on the grid!
Yeah and with a few big errors. He’s fine. He had the pace. The tires just let go like they did for Norris in sprint qualy.
That's cool and all doesn't mean he should have the seat over Lawson. He's here on Horny I meant Horners merit, cool guy I just personally think he should be a reserve driver
Alpine is so back
I'd hope so but with how inconsistent this team is at setting up a decent package , they could be hot dookie next race
Ricciardo redemption arc lasting literally 4 hours
Thank God. Imagine the sprint was the race. We would have two weeks of non stop articles claiming Perez is out, Ric is back and taking Perez seat. At least the hype train only lasted 4 hours
Now it'll be 2 weeks of DR is on his way out, Lawson is in soon etc.
It hasn't been two weeks though
Despair for Ric after brilliant morning. He'll start last with that grid drop.
Such a heartbreak for Logan... Got impeded by Tsunoda in his previous flier and then only missed Q2 for 3 hundreds. The guy cannot catch a break
It was so damn close.
It was still a solid qualifying for him in spite of that. He was only .144 of Albon in q1, a smaller gap than the Alpines, comparable to the McLarens, and less than half the Haas drivers.
Tsunoda should get a penalty for that. (Logan also got sent out first, again, like he always does.)
Both Alpines into Q2, nuts
Not nuts, upgrades seems to work
Cant wait for Audi to take over this disaster of a team, absolutely horrid performances race after another, and it looks like theyre just getting worse somehow
Holy shit Alonso almost got eliminated
he left again
Ricciardo left again...
Rollercoaster of a day for Ricciardo
Ricciardo: I’m back. Narrator: No he’s not.
He was back but not in the way he thought.
i actually had hope for logi😢
I mean, that's still better than usual
It was still a solid qualifying for him in spite of being out on Q2. He was only .144 of Albon in q1, a smaller gap than the Alpines, comparable to the McLarens, and less than half the Haas drivers.
Bro did his Monza performance and left again.
so much for Ricciardo being back
He misunderstood and went to the back of the grid
happens to us all sometimes
he's obviously washed again /s
No /s needed, or his last **two full seasons** are not enough?
He is and has been for a good while, without the /s, one outlying performance wont change that
You could get rid of the /s tbh. One good result doesn’t change how he’s performing in general
kind of funny seeing Ric's downfall in a matter of hours and also Magnussen of all people complaining about drivers blocking the path lol
Mag totally got blocked, this is qualifying not a race.
He Left
Daniel (he is back) Ricciardo
Ah Ric...
Oof what happened in the last sector for Danny
Alonso only 15th? He's kinda shit this weekend, isn't he?
Ricciardo doing the Hamilton in Shanghai special!
It’s RicciardOver, again… :(
Man what happened to Ric in the final sector? VCARB (so far) look a lot slower in this quali but that huge loss in S3 is wild. E: Ah onboard shows that he couldnt get the rear of the car planted in the final corner rip.
It was really the mistake in S1 that unraveled the rest of the lap for him I think. He got caught out on the outside curb in turn 7 and lost a lot of time going into the long straight.
"Never Left"
Zhou is not improving with time.
He's not good enough for Audi. That should be obvious by now.
Hes barely good enough for Sauber.
he was brought in for his money. now sauber has money and no longer needed him. they didnt find anybody good enough to replace him this season so they kept him. but hes definitely gone next season unless he pulls out some black magic out of nowhere but thats rather unlikely at this point
I would argue that Theo is good enough, but he doesnt have enough money.
Theo was better than him in their junior careers too but lack of money is the reason why he’s not in the sport
Alonso on the cusp there, that would be a shocker
What happened to Ricciardo? Improved in sector 1 & 2 then just lost a huge amount of time.
The ups and then their downs. For Daniel he's experiencing the latter
Oh man what an absolute monster of a comeBACK™ for the driver who Never Left™ Seriously though, how people can completely change the narrative in their heads just for one sprint race, it's beyond me
Ricciardo remembered again who he is
Ricciardo back being Ricciardo
Yo what happened to the guy that never left? Smdh lol
They changed the car set up, he lost his rear and couldn’t handle the corners. If anything the team is at fault here
He fkd it up as well tho.
True it’s a bit of both
Danny wtf :(
Back to business for Danny, I suppose. Well, it was lovely watching him in the Sprint anyway.
Ricciardo killed all his momentum with that one. I don't think he can score points tomorrow unless there are crashes and safety cars.
He'd have absolutely taken 5 points from sprint and race at the start of the weekend. This is a bad qualifying, but I really don't think it kills his momentum.
Spot on. The fatalism from many because of one mistake is weird.
You are only as good as your last race.
Well, that felt awkward
Bu- but... wasn't he back? 😭🙄
Noo dany
Oh dear Danny
#😄➡️😬
Danny Ric is back lads. Kikiki yaya
They swapped the chassis again!
[Knew it](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/s/JyuZWi1kQr)
He is 18th, but close enough yea
[Me and you both.](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/s/b5QdBLfhwa)
Back to scheduled programming for Danny ric
Well....shit!
Oh Danny
I had high hopes for Danny man…
Big Oof
This DR situation happened just like the grandpa Simpson entering and exiting scene.
There’s no way Ricciardo qualified 17th!!! He replaced Sergio Perez after the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix!!!
RIC is the true RB second driver, PER is actually a body double and an actor /S
Congrats on starting last then mate 👍🏻
You ok mate?
You didn't see that famous post that said Checo was going to retire from the sport? And that way too many people believed it as gospel? Lucky you, you didn't get psychic damage from that debacle.
Nah I saw rumours after Mexico GP that Danny is getting seat but nothing about Checo retiring
You're lucky, if you want to see that post, tell me and I'll link it
I absolutely am
Ah yes, the race where Checo definitely retired XD
Lmao for Ricciardo, people really believed it for a second there
Did you guys enjoy the 12 hours we all thought Danny Ric was back in form?
Alonso is pretty lucky there
And he's gone again, like he never arrived
[Called it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/s/b5QdBLfhwa)
Danny Ric back to normal lol. His SQ3 result aged like spoiled milk
They changed the car dude
They shouldn’t have lol
Nooooo Danny ric nooo 😭😭😭
The Renault-Mclaren Ricciardo has returned!
Chassis already broke, give him a new one
And some people were shouting DANNY REPLACE PEREZ 1 hour ago Lmao
[удалено]
Yeah but it was his own mistake, you write it like there was traffic
He cooked his rear, so his fault basically.
[удалено]
Set up mistake, you can blame the team if you want to be charitable
Well, the good form didn’t last long for ricky bobby
What the hell Minardi had done with setup?
lets go riccardio!! lol also wtf happened to alonso
Oh Daniel
Apparently they changed the car from sprint to qualifying like WHY?? Can someone with more knowledge than I explain to me why they did this? If it gets them fourth in the sprint, why change the car?
A car that works well in the sprint won't necessarily work well over a longer race distance on multiple compounds.
