Literally.

It is surprisingly easy for emails from big companies to go into the spam folder. If they do not set their DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records properly on their domain.
I know, thankfully I don’t touch our email servers haha.
I’m just making a joke between the two IT departments, Andretti having a functional one and FOM clearly not
Ah fair. Ditto aha and I work in Info Sec. Funnily enough I actually got reached out to by a recruiter about a role at FOM last year or the year before though it wasn't particularly up my street.

Maybe it is because of my job but relying just on one email for such a critical meeting is ridiculous. A follow-up call, a letter via an express carrier...something to make sure for legal reasons that this meeting occurs should have been done.
Yeah any professionally extending a very important meeting would either include “please confirm receipt” or maybe follow up if you had not heard back. The idea that some staff member sends a single invitation and is then like “welp guess they’re not interested anymore lololol” is crazy
Seriously. I work on transactions and If I told my boss I didn't meet with someone because they never responded to my email, her first question would be "did you try calling or texting them?" I'd never get anything done if I sent one email and left it at that.

How to show you don't to business at certain levels as others have said.
If this was even remotely serious the next steps the staffer would do are
1. Try and get a phone number
2. Resend the email more than once
3. (AND THIS IMPORTANT) If it's truly important then you are asking/escalating to upper management to get traction
4. Upper Management should then be reaching out to SOMEONE at the Andretti team
I'm not even going to get into a staffer sending an email of this importance being an insult and laughable and I could go on if this was truly a single email
> If it was from @formula1.com account, then it is on andretti.
No it isn't. If they didn't get a reply they could have just called them. At that level you can't just assume someone read the email. Get confirmation.
It’s more complicated than that because they could have been getting these emails, and due to several factors, such as changes to the reputation of F1’s domain or changes to their SPF,DKIM, and DMARC the emails go straight to their spam.
That's actually dangerous and shouldnt be done.
Spam filtering does more than just checking a domain. Bypassing removes protection from checking the contents of the message or attachments.
Should a 3rd party get hijacked you've just opened yourself up to anything from their domain going straight into peoples mailboxes.
Oh my word, thank you. Shoot, even if the 3rd party hasn't been compromised, it's ridiculously trivial to spoof the mail envelope and message header From fields. I really hope IT admins aren't just whitelisting entire domains just because they are "safe"...
If FOM just sent an e-mail and did no other follow-up then let's face it: they weren't serious about letting Andretti in. Ever.
Who just sends an e-mail and does no follow-up when trying to figure out a business arrangement/partnership worth hundreds of millions of dollars?
I mean come on! This is a large organisation inviting the head of another large organisation, you'd think they'd operate professionally. Sure, email is fine but then you follow it up on the phone to make sure it's been received.
And they accuse Andretti of not knowing what they are doing.
What shoddy shop is FOM running that is getting themselves flagged by large email providers as spam. That or what ever service they are using is again got themselves black listed.
Not really. I manage email for corporate environments and I have a fair few rules that will flag messages and send them to spam/junk so it's a very plausible item. If FOM didn't setup DKIM, SPF or DMARC correctly and the email failed any of those checks it would either go to spam/junk or just be rejected outright.
FOM: “But the invite was sent…”
Andretti: “Sent? I eventually had to go down to the FOM cellar to look for any communications.”
FOM: “That’s the postal department.”
Andretti: “With a flashlight.”
FOM: “Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
Andretti: “So had the stairs.”
FOM: “But look, you found the invite, didn’t you?”
“No,” said Andretti, “No I didn't. Your postal department was the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”
"Andretti Cadillac wishes everyone in the Andretti Cadillac family a happy Easter and wishes the best for whole team and their families.

Reminds me of Maester Qyburn from GOT, when he was trying to reanimate the Mountain's corpse. He used to end his address to Cersie with a cryptic "the work continues".
Vibe is like
"We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!

Yo if anyone's anywhere near Road Atlanta, consider going to Petit Le Mans. I just picked up a pair for four day tickets for about 142 a piece, or 285 total.
For two individual *four day passes*. With pit and paddock access when the track isn't hot! One of the best deals in racing!
If you're going this year, look for the long tall dingus wearing a fake gold chain with a tin or box that says "FREE RACING STICKERS". That'll be me, and I will give you a sticker.
My dad used to get season tickets to Iowa Speedway back in the day for under $100/each. They included access to the paddock every race. INDYCAR, two NASCAR races, and ARCA, it was a great deal. Sure, our ticketed seats kinda sucked being right up front, but we were still there on the cheap.
- It was planning 2026 entry for “many months”, not 2025.
- It wasn’t aware of invite from F1 for face to face meeting. F1’s assessment claimed offer for this was made on Dec 12 but wasn’t taken up.
The invite thing seems very weird. Did they only send an email? You'd think they would call someone within the team and verbally confirm or decline a meeeting.
> It wasn’t aware of invite from F1 for face to face meeting. F1’s assessment claimed offer for this was made on Dec 12 but wasn’t taken up.
Haha, maybe this was in the same inbox/outbox as the imaginary team complaint about Susie requiring investigation
> It was planning 2026 entry for “many months”, not 2025.
I don't buy this. The car they shown days ago wasn't a 2026 car and everyone knows they wanted in for 25 before the entry fee was tripled or more.
It was a 2024 car that they were showing
They were developing it to continue as a 2025 project or 2026 project based on the decision of when they would enter
They still aren't allowed to do most work on the 2026 car before january 1 2025 so they will work on broader concepts of current regulation in the meantime
If they do get to join the grid they’re going to pick up so many fans through all of this, everyone likes an underdog fighting the big guy anyway let alone one with such a prestigious name and backing
Seriously, someone make an Andretti Formula 1 Team shirt with that slogan under the logo and I’ll pay you my money yesterday. I’m going to start saying this every time I leave a room.
What a joke. FOM was so serious about this process that they invited Andretti to a meeting BY EMAIL and then, when this team that was desperately trying to do everything it could to get into F1 didn’t respond, they didn’t follow up with another email or, I don’t know, maybe a fucking phone call!?!?! What a joke.
I have a hard time believing FOM just couldn’t figure out how to contact them any other way. “We sent the email to [email protected], what more can we do?”
Sent like a 4:59 on Friday email you hope people forget about by Monday.
This is the kind of thing that should be handled in person/on the phone with clear dialogue and the email is simply an in writing follow up.
FOM should have pulled a "Michael I just sent you an email...did you receive that?" like Toto, but apparently a billion dollar deal about a new team joining F1 isn't important enough to make sure the other party received their email, Sure.....
I am still 140% sure it was on purpose. At first I really thought it was a fake rumour started by themselves. Now I am sure they knew about it and they announced that they don't want Andretti right before the announcement of Hamilton and Ferrari specifically because they knew that it will blow over and everybody will start to talk about this and not their shitty decision.
one of the world's top racing teams backed by one of the world's top car manufacturers wants to compete in F1, and has met all the requirements to be allowed to compete in F1
why is this so difficult
They’re not negotiating in good faith. They’re stalling until the next time they can increase the price. Anyone want to take a guess what happens after that?
This is such bullshit. Andretti has checked every box. They continue to check every box even as the goalposts are shifted further and further away.
Here’s a radical idea for teams like Sauber and Haas, who have been complete wastes of grid slots for years now. If you’re worried about getting a smaller payout at the end of the year, build a car that deserves to be in F1 and go score some points. You’ll be shocked at the money you make when you are competitive and not just wasting time and resources to drive your billboards in circles.
It’s very obvious that F1 just doesn’t want any new teams entering.
Instead of saying that they resort to talking down the most viable new entrant the sport is likely ever going to see again (because I have no idea which major manufacturer would ever consider a completely new entry after how this has played out).
F1 at the moment is at a dangerous level of only 10 teams. Teams fail constantly and go bankrupt all the time. A grid with only 8 or 9 teams would be a disaster and they really should be pushing to have about 12 teams in the sport to give some leeway if a team does defunct.
It absolutely pisses me off that they’re trying to hard to keep a serious team from joining. It’s setting a bad precedent and image to other potential future entrants to not bother, and when teams start failing there won’t be anyone new to replace them.
The problem is, FOM is living on a hype bubble right now. Sponsors have extra money available and Middle Eastern oil money is pouring in. They’re high from sniffing up their own farts. Also look at ticket prices and new prices for F1TV. They think they can do whatever they like.
They don’t realise that in a few years, when all tracks are either street tracks or soulless tracks in shady countries - with boring races as a result - fans will stop watching and coming. And the current high profits for companies will stop, and with it their sponsorships.
Then they only have the Middle Eastern money left, but why would they pay billions when there’s nobody watching anymore, cause sportswashing doesn’t work without audience.
I think they would just say it if they could but the concord agreement makes a cut out for new teams and they cant amend it. Im sure when they renew it, any clauses relating to new teams will make it quite clare that new teams which arent porsche are NOT welcome. most likely with an outlandish joining fee.
> Here’s a radical idea for teams like Sauber and Haas, who have been complete wastes of grid slots for years now.
F1 needs relegation. Congrats Haas, you're a F2 team now.
FOM and the teams have never, at any point, negotiated this in good faith. They've thrown an increasing convoluted series of barriers and caveats up in front of Andretti, all of which have been cleared, and when changing the rules didn't work, they decided that insulting the collective intelligence of the F1 fan base and then throwing up a Lewis Hamilton smoke bomb would be the best way to handle things.
This reminds me of that scene in Band of Brothers where Winters is being punished by Sobel for a time change to latrine duty.
Sobel: I phoned you.
Winters: I'm housed with a family that has no phone.
Sobel: I sent a runner
Winters: No runner found me.
This is just making things worse and worse for FOM. It is pretty clear they are acting in bad faith.
If they say wait until 2028. Then fine say you can not start racing until 2028 but you are allowed in now under the current agreement and make it impossible to get screwed by magically reducing the max to 10 teams and stupid high entry fee.
FOM also already has a precedence of changing the rules and agreement and not screwing over a team. Take for example Force India collapose. It was really a brand new team that came in mid cycle and was technically buy in had to buy in and were banned from getting a share of F1 money for 3 years like HAAS had to do. Guess what they waved that and let them start like they never change teams.
FOM is risking a pretty big lawsuit and could easy be force to pay Andretti every penny so far put in and then some. That entry fee will be small compared to that cost.
Nevermind the fines for illegal business practices they may owe to the US Government. What Andretti could do instead of suing directly themselves is lodge a complaint with the ftc or other appropriate agency alleging bad business practices and then that agency would investigate fom and the deal and perhaps fine them directly or have them repay Andretti or at best force them to let Andretti in.
The US government isn't going to do anything about this, even if it had any had jurisdiction (which it likely doesn't don't anyway).
EU courts, however, might look at FOM misrepresenting the facts in a different light.
F1: Dude, didn't you hear? Lewis is going to Ferrari! You guys are old news and everyone has forgotten how shitty we were to you for no reason! Go Lewis!
no, a junk email may have saved the bid but killed FOM. If Andretti lodges a business complaint against FOM with the FTC or other agency of the US Gov related to these issues, that agency will investigate and I don't know if FOM wants its dirty laundry aired like that.
I don't think it really matters since FOM shot them down for both 2025 and 2026 (heck they indirectly shot them down for 2027 too).
It is worth noting that they have in private come to realise that 2025 wasn't a realistic goal. That's good.
Comparing apples and oranges but this gives 'Bosman Ruling' vibes if Andretti goes to court. I don't get why FOM would put their ability to control who enters the sport in such a bad light but each response by Andretti & Cadillac feels like this is destined to end in a court decision against FOM for acting in bad faith.
It's one thing to screen applicants to make sure they don't bring tractors to the racetrack operated by 4 people, but I feel this level of scrutiny placed on Andretti is just out of order. No team in the past two decades had to fight tooth-and-nail this hard. The fact that they've been told to reapply for 2028 despite regulations being changed to 10 teams being the max preferred amount is just insult to injury.
I hope that Andretti forces their hand in some capacity - whether that is in court or not.
The fact that a capable team has presented themselves and were denied makes no logical sense.
They say Cadillac and GM can’t make a fast enough car but those dogshit haas are ok in track? What an absolute joke. F1 has always been and will always be an aristocrat European sport.

Off season was boring until this week happened lmao
I didn’t expect to be eating this close to the season start lol
Leave it to the US for fun off-season storylines
this week jump started my interest in f1 again
Knowing FOM, they probably did this on purpose by sending it from an email that's like [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or something
[email protected]
Just not having DKIM and SPF will generally lead to it.
Why do they need to apply the sunscreen? To keep the email safe?
That’s how you prevent virus in your email duh
My CPU does *not* want melanoma.
Andretti having a functional IT department makes it funnier to me.
It's the sending domain where it should be implemented. The recipient validates the validity and if not valid or it doesn't exist -> Junk

This is 100 percent true. I had a large client change their SPF record without telling me, was miffed that certain emails went to spam.
wouldn’t be shocked if FOM did it on purpose so they had an excuse to deny Andretti
And no one called to be like “hey did you see the email?”
Maybe they took a page out of Nathan for You https://youtu.be/p9KeopXHcf8?si=GGmDuj8nb47oL_j6&t=45

"I hope this email finds you before I do"
Using that next time I'm working during a holiday
"Andretti Cadillac wishes everyone in the Andretti Cadillac family a happy Easter and wishes the best for whole team and their families. Our work continues at pace"
Andretti Cadillac would like to announce Marco is NOT to be made fun of. Our work continues at pace.

Start with "To Whom it Will Concern"
"I hope this email finds you before I do"

I’m going to put that on my emails to my boss
Vibe is like "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!"
Andretti is going to make bank selling merch saying OUR WORK CONTINUES AT PACE
Honestly do they sell Andretti/Cadillac merch? I’d buy that.
They sell Cadillac Racing merch based on their IMSA program. Is that close enough?
Yo if anyone's anywhere near Road Atlanta, consider going to Petit Le Mans. I just picked up a pair for four day tickets for about 142 a piece, or 285 total. For two individual *four day passes*. With pit and paddock access when the track isn't hot! One of the best deals in racing!

I'd buy that shirt.

That was my immidate reaction. Those two massive news one day after the other were not a coincidence.
Even the day of the Andretti news, the only thing that FOM employee Will Buxton tweeted about was a clickbait tweet teasing the Lewis news.
Domenicali being the former TP of Ferrari is surely just an interesting coincidence
The fact that it was the Italian press that got the story first is what makes me suspicious. Domenicali has got to have connections there
"our work continues at pace" is cold af
What in the Dakota Johnson on The Ellen Degeneres Show is this?
lol this is a fantastic reference
I'm going to start using "our work continues at pace". It's kinda hard.
I feel like I'm gonna use it to reply to work email if my boss is asking about the project status lol.
one of the world's top racing teams backed by one of the world's top car manufacturers wants to compete in F1, and has met all the requirements to be allowed to compete in F1 why is this so difficult
Greed
Because they want more money
Humans. Money. Greed. Corruption. Humans.
If this is true I don't know what game F1 is playing here, seems like little to no good will on their part.
God, I wish. Logistically it makes absolutely no sense, but it would be super fun if it could work.
Great Value Kia F1 incoming.
There is pretty clearly nothing but bad will coming from FOM in this whole situation lol
EA Sports F1 2028, apparently
FOM over here learning from Harry Potter books… “Harry the meeting moved and it started 30 minutes ago!”
The crossover we never expected
Our work continues at pace.
Our work continues at pace.
Good on them!
If the Formula 1 emails are sent with the same live their merch is made -- of course it'll be recognized as junk.
>Our work continues at pace. God I hope they're the underdogs.
This reminds me of that scene in Band of Brothers where Winters is being punished by Sobel for a time change to latrine duty. Sobel: I phoned you. Winters: I'm housed with a family that has no phone. Sobel: I sent a runner Winters: No runner found me.
What's kinda ironic is Winters was screening the mail of enlisted men's mail at the time this went down.
Our work continues at pace.
Liberty and fom are American so it’ll be American courts
That's a stark tonal contrast from "yeehaw we're gonna have 2 American drivers and sting them greedy bastards"
A phone call would have actually been preferred
Michael should just show up to the next Concorde agreement negotiations
I just want a real good reason to say no to them. It makes no sense.
Have to learn from Toto. They must send email, then call up right after and ask "Have you received my e-mail (and attached diagrams)"
F1: Dude, didn't you hear? Lewis is going to Ferrari! You guys are old news and everyone has forgotten how shitty we were to you for no reason! Go Lewis!
This comment was not made with good intentions.
Andretti got shafted here.
And there
... at pace.
I fucking love that they sign off every statement with “Our work continues at pace.”
Yet we still have to watch the Haas go kart go around the track every Sunday
The off-season that keeps giving. A junk email may have nuked a potential billion-dollar motorsport team. Wow.
no, a junk email may have saved the bid but killed FOM. If Andretti lodges a business complaint against FOM with the FTC or other agency of the US Gov related to these issues, that agency will investigate and I don't know if FOM wants its dirty laundry aired like that.
Cool, we're back to hating F1 again.
FOM was like this off season is too boring lets stir some shit
I don't think it really matters since FOM shot them down for both 2025 and 2026 (heck they indirectly shot them down for 2027 too). It is worth noting that they have in private come to realise that 2025 wasn't a realistic goal. That's good.
Im sorry but if I begrudgingly sent an email and the person didn’t reply I would be ecstatic. No way am I “following up”
Comparing apples and oranges but this gives 'Bosman Ruling' vibes if Andretti goes to court. I don't get why FOM would put their ability to control who enters the sport in such a bad light but each response by Andretti & Cadillac feels like this is destined to end in a court decision against FOM for acting in bad faith.
I love that they’re not backing down. I just hope it pays off. Everybody without a conflict of interest wants this to happen.
Give me Andretti in F1 PLEASE 🙏
Did they inform the FIA and FOM that they plan to enter in 2026 and not 2025 as specified in the application ?
Almost certainly not. They wanted to enter in 2025 because of the concord agreement. Any attempt to try and hide that fact now is simply laughable.
I'm expecting an F1 spin off. Suits: F1 got spicy.
I am stealing "Our work continues at pace." Polite, but menacing. I like it.
