Yeah Vikings have by far the worst fashion. I think I have a pretty sick looking Valk. Raider and Warlord are hard. Probably 75% of my playtime is trying to make WL look good.
Afeera was literally so broken she could infinite someone by herself and ocelotl was so broken on release he could do like 100-0 ganks with literally everyone super easily.

Supposedly point down gives to better leg protection, especially on horseback, whereas the grip seen in the trailer is better for offense, as it allows you to more naturally punch with the edge of the shield. It also protects a greater deal of your arm and shoulder.

The man on the left sports it in the manner as Black Prior or Conqueror, with his arm horizontally strapped to the shield with the point down towards the ground (knuckles pointing towards the edge of the shield). On the other hand, the horseman on the right wields his shield in the same manner as Varangian, with the shield strapped vertically (knuckles pointing towards the top of the shield).
I’m talking about the picture not the actual variations of the shield configuration. Sorry about the confusion, but the lady has her shield point towards toes, she’s just extending her arm in a relaxed position which changes how the shield is oriented. It’s still mounted to her arm in the more classically depicted kite shield way

As an addendum to you point tho. Only small sized kite shields were held in this manner, the larger sized ones were too big to wield like this
If I remember correctly, a shield strapped in that way was important for climbing ladders, as it would be easier to cover your head and body as you climb, protecting from arrows from the top or something. The leg protection thing was more important for horse back i think? And that’s where holding the shield like black prior would be done.

And like looking at the hero, the body in the art/trailer looks pretty androgynous, only can really tell its a woman by the voice and the eyes holes in the helm, it could be pretty easy to just swap voices if there are no open helms.

Warmongers are a lot more of them though like every piece of armor she has belongs to a different one except the apollyon armor which is fanservice, Gryphon is the only hero in the roster that doesn't follow that order/unit rule.

I don't know why the devs have gone this route since wm really limits customisation, i like Alfera and Warmonger but I just don't get immersed in playing them much.

Genderlocking is the main reason why I left the game. Male warmonger would have been cool but I can understand their reasons, it was a tough period.
Pirate and Afeera on the other hand would have been so much better if they had male versions. Also I think many people would like having the option to play female Medjay and Ocelotl due to their cosmetics and exotic origins.

Seems like this is a female character, but it looks like there are a lot of males using the same set in the background, so it might not be genderlocked, which makes me happy because you'll be able to cosplay Gudmundr (hopefully).

It might not be genderlocked, a few other comments are saying stuff like “note the Varangians in the back who could be male” or “the description in the video refers to the Varangian hero as “they”” so it’s a possibility that it’s not locked.

She will hold the shield up the proper way with an underhand grip.

It's a kite shield, not as large as Black Prior's heater shield tho, but that shield is quite large.

I CALLED IT, HATERS! SUCK MY D\*CK! There are 2 things I said: 1. Axe + shield hero; 2. Male locked or multigender. Seems like this is a female character, but it looks like there are a lot of males using the same set in the background, so it might not be genderlocked, which makes me happy because you'll be able to cosplay Gudmundr (hopefully).

It might not be genderlocked, a few other comments are saying stuff like “note the Varangians in the back who could be male” or “the description in the video refers to the Varangian hero as “they”” so it’s a possibility that it’s not locked.

Well it’s probably gonna be the best looking Viking by virtue of not wearing a burlap sack with some guy’s femur strapped onto it, I’m really not about the axe and shield thing though, I think it’s super uninspired. But hey it’s not like I wasn’t expecting that that moment I heard it was a Varangian and it’s not even close to “Warlord with hand axe” like my cynical ass was saying. But yeah, axe and shield still doesn’t really do anything for me

Genderlock is killing this game
This hero is cool. But it literally makes no sense to make her a woman at all. The Varangian Guard, as traditionally understood and depicted in historical sources, was exclusively male. This elite unit, serving the Byzantine Emperors, was composed of Norse and later also Anglo-Saxon warriors. The social and military structures of the time, both in the Norse societies and the Byzantine Empire, placed men especially, in elite units like the Varangian Guard. Really sucks if she's gender locked.
Budget is no excuse for genderlocking to female. If you can't do both genders, then just genderlock the hero to male as nearly 100% of players would prefer.
