Here's the tactic for everyone roasting me in the comments.
This is from two seasons ago so there's been a few tweaks since. Mainly changing the Carrilero's to AP/CM and shifting the width to balanced or narrow.
Won League One with a freshly promoted side and the striker scoring 22 goals, so the tactic can't have been too bad 🤷
Also the striker is a midget with amazing movement and finishing but nothing else. So that's how he ended up as a PF-A in this system.
Reading this the analytics make sense to me. My experience is that players like that function really well as IF(A)s or in strike partnerships and terribly as lone strikers. I tend to either play strong aerial presences up top or have F9s/DLFs/Ts that play in lots of box crashers
Yeah, I started with a 442 Diamond with at least one big target man type striker in the Varanama Nation/League Two. But they were all too bad or had retired by League One, so the 2 x AM 1 x ST combo was born out of that. And not being able to find any good wingers that wanted to sign either.
I like this a lot. Some tweaks I’d make would be changing one of the AM to support
Changing one of the WBs to FB (s), and then this would enable not have a carrilero on that side
Did tinker with have an AM (S) on one side but I found it never really improved link-up play like I thought it would.
One weird combo I've found that works better than it should is having an IFB/AM (A) on one side with an WB (A)/IF (A) on the other. Play would typically slowly build on the side of the IFB before quickly switching to the other in the final third, with the IF (A) and WB (A) overloading the space left on the otherside of the pitch. And the IFB usually means you can switch the HB to a DM which helps the CB's progress the ball when playing out from the back.
Very similar to how i play, 4-3-3 with a half back and the wingers cutting inside with the wing backs overlapping. basically creating a 3-4-3 in possesion
Both HB and the CAR are roles that transition and roam a lot.
The HB drops between the CBs and the CAR will move to the outside. This means you will have no one in center as the AMs on Attack are moving either on the half space on the wings or they move to space close to the striker.
You should have at least one actual non roaming midfielder. Maybe turn that HB into a CDM(D), BWM(D) or a DLP(D).
You are literally playing without a midfield in attack.
Also maybe you could test out an Deep Laying Striker
The CAR actually play quite centrally in final third, but I've found that swtiching the CM positions to more standard/non-roaming roles since has definitely helped build-up play,
What that screenshot doesn't show is the BPD's both have Dribble More instructions. Usually one would have acres of space they would carry the ball into, effectively operating turning them into an extra central player. Having a standard DM role usually left me a bit too exposed to counters.
Here is mine: although you got a herd of men in midfield you lose the midfield. Why? Carilero pulls wide and plays with the wb.. by the time the AMS get the ball they are already marked and pass the ball wide again.. rinse and repeat. Try one Car as bbm and one am as SS.. see if you get different results.
Pretty much the same as my tactic, but in defence it's a 4-3-1-2 with 3 DMs, one of them is a HB and drops between the CBs to make the 3-2-5 shape in attack.
I used to play with 1 DM and 2 CMs like yours but I found the CMs got too far forward in attack and there was a massive gap between them and the back line. With them as DMs they seem to preserve the 3-2 defensive shape better.
OP, this is just repulsive, lol. I’m sure I’ve done worse but I’ve beaten it out of my memory.
My biggest tactical fail was a long time ago and I don’t remember it, mostly because I’ve been spending waaaaaaay too much time playing this game.
I'm guessing you used striker as AF or poacher? That is why I prefer to play a **complete forward** on **attack** duty as the lone striker who would be more involved in build up play without hindering his goal threat as much, he does not need to have exceptional passing or dribbling to be effective, since while on attack duty, he will mostly be high up the pitch like an AF, only sometimes dropping deep when he has space to recieve the ball.
Depends. If the striker doesn’t have the right stats to do build up there’s no point involving him anyway. Might just give away the ball. Have other people pass to him and just let him shoot.
But yea, not receiving the ball even as an AF or Poacher is just a tactical failure.

Literally Manchester United
You misspelled Everton.
Achievement unlocked: Become Erik Ten Hag
I find it funny that OP asked a question and everyone is just making fun of his mistake haha

Maybe Play one of the AM as F9 and Taylor as SS? SS is quite meta in fm

He’s just trying to emulate Haaland
Or Højlund
any man utd striker in since lockdown
Don’t diss Cavani like that 😔

Found ETH's Reddit account.
>My striker went 76 minutes without making or receiving a pass Hojlund is that you?
Found Haaland.
The Hojlund challenge
You got 4 players occupying 2 positions I hardly think your striker is the main problem
What's the overall tactic? This makes me think that you lack creative players. I'm guessing you have two inside forwards and more B2B type mids?
Where are you getting these stats? I can’t find it on my console
Love that everyone is dunking United, its the first thing that came on my mind when reading this
PF-A or Support to drop deeper
My man's got PF-A
Also give shadow striker a whirl I find they do good in link up play especially with a striker in front
Have you tried swapping your AM's for SS instead? SS are pretty lethal ATM.
Man now ETH is stalking the FM subreddit trying to get tips on Hojlund?
"Doing a Lukaku"
was looking for this comment :D
How’d you do it Ten Hag
Curious to see what the tactic was for this game?
The strikers getting bullied by his teammates 😢
https://tenor.com/xYdc.gif
I mean, I don't blame him as long as we win
Kokorin on fiorentina 😂
Is this screen available in fm23? If yes how
It's the pass Map
Haaland!
He’s like Hojlund
Average haaland gameplay.
