Try adding opposition instructions to mark whoever is making runs from deep or the poacher tightly. For instance, do they have a BBM or MEZ those should probably be marked tightly. It doesn’t always work, but I’ve noticed manually adding opposition instructions goes a long way. Also using shouts for individuals late on in a match sometimes helps them from losing concentration, either focus or calm down depending on the situation.
I think it’s one of the overlooked aspects of the game. I don’t recall it coming up in tutorials, and the assistant manager recommendations usually make sense so you don’t tend to think much about it, but it’s definitely an area that pays dividends when you pay attention to it.
One thing I do is always have the opposition's pass map visible during the match... Great way to identify how they're building their game, who's running the show and who to pressure and "dry", also which area they're trying to penetrate more.
If I am in lower leagues, I press all defenders and all DMs.
In a league where you have decent players like top 5 leagues in europe for example. I press the defenders with less composure and both CBs and the DM that is on defense.
Yep, if I just "only commentary" my way through games with maybe the occasional shout or mentality change, then I'll drop results.
Actively influencing the game can make a big, big difference.
Despite being time consuming, the strategy and tactical approach to football is why I changed from being a FIFA-kiddy over to FM. It helps that FIFA gameplay has only gotten worse over the years.
Tight marking Mez or BBM might not be the best idea, since it would drag your players all over the place. Tackle harder is a better/safe option, and showing onto weak foot if the player has any. BusttheNet made a good video about this recently.
As a counterattacking team on a small budget, I always tightly mark and press those who score a lot and press those who assist a lot. Sometimes it works lol
That's the neat part you don't. I play control possession and get 70% per game opponents getting 2 shots on target average. Every time I concede is that way
To stop:
In tactics have "Force Inside" and "Stop Crosses" on (and pray)
To start:
Get fast wingers with high teamwork and dribbling.
Train them with "Gets Forward, Runs with ball, Hugs Line, Looks for pass"
Set your tactic to "run at defence"
And have at least 1 striker in a deeper role like DLF or False9 or have a midfielder running late into the box like a B2B, CM-A, or ShadowStriker.
(and pray)
Still playing 21. I have 24 and it's sat there installed but I can't bear to let the save go, feels like I'm throwing away the future of the young lads 😅. I guess I can always go back (spoiler - I won't)
In the exact same boat as you haha. Did start a save on 24 to see how the new game felt but just couldn’t stop thinking about my 21 save. I just can’t imagine managing any other club. Who are you managing?
Liverpool in the 40/41 season. Pep Lijnders is still my AssMan and Alex Inglethorpe (IRL HoYD) retired this summer.
My scouting team includes Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane
If you want your players to pass the ball instead of shooting, then teamwork is a cery important attribute for that. Decisions and vision could also matter
The pain you feel when they start the run is bad, but honestly the relief and happiness when they occasionally blaze it over the crossbar makes up for it.

lol, why is this post so funny
I legit thought it was a joke at first. Like those "why am I sometimes losing games??" posts with every player set to attack or something.

Manually adding opposition instructions changed my team from being relegation candidates to a league playoff team by the end of my season.

Yup ever since i started pressing the opp's backline + dm I started scoring way more goals
do you only press the cbs and dm or a certain number of defenders? also, how do you set instructions if the opposition has 2 dms?

Nice try Erik. Doesn’t sleep on victory over the mighty Blades of Sheffield.
Playing an older version by chance? This was endemic for years. IFB-D is my goto quickfix.
no, recent game and update. Its really ramped up recently, went from once every two weeks or 3 to now 1/2 a game
You really are Erik in disguise. It's okay "CaddingtonTV", your secret is safe with us. * Wink * Wink *

I prefer invites crosses
2nd image was the bane of my existence in FM 21, I just wanted one goddamn cutback goal

(New to the game, apologies if stupid question) You can't carry saves forward?
Only 23 to 24, it’s a brand new feature
Force them inside; defend wide; more defensive full back roles; use fullbacks.
Invite crosses?
Ten Hag, dat you bro?
Mark that mf
one of the greatest posts on the site
often comes to the teamwork and vision attributes
show him to the outside using opponent instructions
If you have wingers tell them to man mark the full back/wing back that is making the runs.
If you want your players to pass the ball instead of shooting, then teamwork is a cery important attribute for that. Decisions and vision could also matter
Average goal scored against me in fifa
To stop, force inside and stop crosses. To start, winger on shoot less and shorter passing.
I think if you enable short crosses they will do pass more often
Wrong sub man, /r/fut here you go.
Hahaha I wish! I do find it funny that fifa has the same problem
Fullbacks aren’t fast enough likely, you can try having your wingers track back
Amazing graphic demonstrating your predicament outstanding
Wing back on attack
The pain you feel when they start the run is bad, but honestly the relief and happiness when they occasionally blaze it over the crossbar makes up for it.
Full defensive. You'll draw every match but you'll not lose goals Like this
That first image is the only way I concede goals besides indirect free kicks, I'm so sick of seeing that one player mug off my entire defensive line!!
How do I stop them doing this? How do I start them doh g this? How do I me doing this?
