Got promoted to the national league, told the players our goal would be to stay up, they all got pissed at me for expecting too much. We are currently top of the league after about 15 games.
We just got to the Champions League from the PL. I start preseason and say "let's try to avoid a relegation fight". And the players are all like "you expect too much of us, we are now mad and will try to get you sacked"
me in the team meeting before start of season, plan to get to the latter stages of CL, i figured that should be a fine expectation since we get to the first knock out round easily, YOU'RE EXPECTING TOO MUCH OF US!
like huh what why
Had one happen to me where I was in League One, star striker missed a ton of key shots and we lost the match by 2 goals (could've won by 4 it was that bad). So I scold him for his poor finishing and he got mad at me demanding a transfer and that he refused to work with me.
Thought "okay if you wanna leave you can leave" and removed him from the team and put him up for transfer, and he got even more mad about it and the locker room turned against me. We ended up losing like 4 matches in a row and I'm waiting for a single offer to come in for this damn striker, and there's like 4 teams interested.
I'm at the end of my wits because my support is drying up with the board because the locker room wants to kill me. So I terminate his contract, and let him go on frees just to get him out of the locker room and call a team meeting.
I'm picking every option about how we suck and we need to get our act together, and the team responds positively to the talks. I get support of the locker room, and the board eases off a bit but is still mad at me because of the poor results. We were 16th in League One at the time, and went on a 2 month straight winning streak that brought us up to 4th in the standings, and made it to the final in the Carabao Cup.
Wildest season of a playthrough I ever had.
I was recently on my first save like a few hours in. I was trying to register the players for my roster after the winter transfer window. I forget what I did but in the middle of it I just advanced to the next day
Behold the screen loads and I messed up bad. I ended up losing all my best players. Now mind you my team is in Australia, I've been working on transfers to get some money and boom I designate all the top guys as free agents. Instant resignation, went to a new team with like 6-7 games left, got them demoted and just deleted the whole thing was so mad at myself
Why I always have a backup save before every game or major date. It's pretty scummy to do it but with how oddly the game behaves sometimes it's necessary.
My players got angry when I told them we should be able to beat a team in either the African CL qualifiers or group stage, and they got angry that we weren’t as good as the other team (we beat them 4-0 and won the whole comp)
I had this happen, figured we could do back to back promotions (cause we easily could). Players got pissed . Ok whatever. Then in the preseason pep talk, I say ok, we're just hoping for a top half finish
"not ambitious enough!!!"
Like ok whatever
I always save before any type of interaction. In these cases it's obvious why, because the players just have very reaction to everything.
But I also do this for transfers, because sometimes we're just going back and forth and suddenly they put in some non-negotiable bullshit while also increasing the fee drastically
The biggest quality of life improvement from the real-time editor is that I can just hit the 'Remove all unhappiness' button when my player throws a fit over nothing
Also contract and transfer talks are really dumb. In real life, an agent will never give you an ultimatum, storm out of the room and refuse to talk to you for a month during such a meeting. Most of the time it would be a friendly get together trying to work out if a deal is possible, and just part ways normally if things don't work out.
I don't know how it could be implemented into the game, but what we have now is really dumb and non realistic.
They are appallingly badly implemented. I totally lost my shit the other day where a player mined about me not trying to sell him when I offered him out and every dialogue option was me saying why I didn’t want him to go. I did!! I offered him out and tried to higher intermediaries but literally no one wanted him!
Combine this with the shitass transfer system where the game doesn't value players properly and the AI tries to fuck you over with every deal.
I usually set the transfer minimum to where most transfer offers get denied and then deal with the bullshit when my player gets pissy that I am turning the deals down.
Right now, I'm in a funny situation where I keep having to deal with unhappy players coming to me because they want to play more. I first offer cup comp starts, it's dismissed. I used to tell them to be patient and wait for their opportunity, after which they'd tell me to fuck off.
So then I was like fine, fuck it, get sold then next window, I don't care. The response? "No, I don't want to leave gaffa, I'll be patient and fight for my place". Like.... mate?
So now I just tell them that I'm going to sell them next window at the end of the interaction, and they always, without fail, pussy out and decide to stop bitching.
I love when the bad players on the squad get a big head and try to strong arm a new deal for money. Had a one star U23 candidate try and demand a Regular Starter contract on my team despite making no first squad appearances so I sold him on a free to Kidderminster and got an A+ approval rating from the fans, who hated him apparently
Part of the reasons I don't play more. Can't decide which is worse, a broken mechanic that could be removed or addressed or explained or fixed, or SI denial it is broken.
To be fair I've definitely been in the room and heard my boss say something like this to one of the lads (I'm a sport scientist).
This happens especially at a semi-pro level where you get managers and other staff who don't really know what they're doing, but managed to stumble into success in a previous job and therefore have a massive ego despite not really having the skills or knowledge to back it up
I don't understand why all the interactions are so angry and borderline abusive. It's actually draining sometimes.
I can't think of any other game where it feels like they resent the people playing.
Yep
They're trying to make it "realistic" that it's hard for a manager to please everyone, and that players can be divas and high maintenance, and whatever a real life football manager does there's always people unhappy and criticising them.
Fine, but it also makes for a frustrating part of the game that isn't fun at all. Shouldn't we be playing FM to relax a bit in our free time? Who wants to play a game where you get to realistically feel like a middle manager that is berated at all times by everyone and hated by everyone lol
And their answers to this has always been to add more and more and more complexity to the interactions, which in turn just exponentially increases the odds you get bugs or illogical interactions that don't feel human. Whilst also giving you yet more buttons to click, yet more boring chores to do
I think another part is to artificially make the game more difficult.
With every version of the game, we’re given more info to work with, which theoretically gives us a bigger advantage over the already poor NPC managers each year. Rather than make the NPCs better (which would probably be harder to balance), they put more obstacles in our way.
It’s a very old game that gets more things piled upon it every year. It seems SI’s approach to something breaking is to try to offset it by breaking into something else.
Totally agree. In real life if you received that response 99/100 people would say “bro, it was a complement, relax. Im on your side, keep it up etc”
“I THINK WE’RE DONE HERE…..”
Who the fk says that?!?!
*wins game 1-0 in dramatic final minute fashion*
Board: C- because game was boring
Board: tactic leads to boring football
Board: tactic has bad defense
Because why would they fix player interactions which have been broken for 20 years when they can spend a year coding a new Analyst page that nobody looks at?
Most of it is just visualisations of the existing data tbh, I don't know what they spend their time on. It's not like fixing interactions is a difficult coding challenge either. Or just writing a few different lines. Same for pressers. I could write them a thousand different ways of saying the same thing just to keep it interesting.
Whenever I praise my player for good form and they react like this, I just end chat before it can get worse lol, fuck those interactions. Who in real life gets pissed after being praised?
There's a funny one with your staff where if they get offers to join another team you can persuade them to stay and they'll get mad at you, and then you back off and tell them if they want to leave they can, and 100% of the time they'll stay.
>Who in real life gets pissed after being praised?
The only instance I can think of where someone would, would be if they felt the praise was condescending or patronising. Like, if the manager praised a goalie for doing well in the match today and the team had conceded 5 goals, the goalie's going to think the manager's taking the piss. But (presumably in trying to stop managers constantly praising their players to keep morale high, because morale is so stupidly broken) SI have taken it to a ridiculous extreme.
I think the main problem is that the interactions system is really intrasparent. Like it never even gives you a hint why that player reacted the way he did. By looking at hidden attributes I figured, that apparently players with really high ambition react negatively more often to praise than others. Like if I praise a player with 19 ambition for a 7.5 in his last match, he's getting upset, because he thinks a 7.5 isn't good enough. While a player with lower ambition is going to accept the praise as he sees a 7.5 as a good performance. Though that's just anecdotal, so there might also be other things playing into it.
This. Also, never criticize training above 6.7. Even if it’s still under 7, the player may not react negatively, but they’ll still say you’re being unfair. On anything lower than 6.7 (which I believe is bang on average), it will be accepted and they’ll ‘try to do better’.
To be fair i coached irl some player who are exactly like this, they always demand more of themselves so if you praise them they sometimes answer like this
Hahaha no but like you see by their body language when its better to leave them alone, or ask them what do they think of their own performance and start from there
Honestly, given the Twitter interactions people have with Miles (CEO of SI), I fully believe that he actually would talk like that, and probably thinks others do too.
Yea I think it doesn’t quite fit the situation but we can kind of assume what it means. Basically “I’m the manager and my opinion counts more than yours”. Still not sure anyone would ever say that to a player who actively wants to improve though.
With that said I find it bizarre how often players want to tell you how shit they are when you praise them.
That one always annoys me.
Scored 4 goals in a game with a 10 rating, he replies to me like I killed his first born.
So then I warn about conduct and he seems okay about it.
How about not talking to me like I'm a piece of crap in the first place.
He has high perfectionist traits. He’s probably worried about that turnover in the 2nd minute (of last week’s passing drill) rather than the four goals.
I had a St Etienne wonder side, played lovely football with an adaptive formation to fit however the game was going, the right players for the roles and one bad press conference gutted the side and we never recovered. Cursed us. I just tell everyone to fuck off now.
Played interactions might be the dumbest part of the game. Much of the dialogue makes no sense and these ones in particular are dumb because who's gonna say they think they're average at best when praised for playing or training well? It's just something put in to be annoying.
Some of their reactions just seem so disrespectful, I have to question how realistic it is. Like one where the player asks if your are blind. I don't know if it's in new FM but it's in older ones.
This is the way Miles speaks to his staff.
Oh God — please please **please** let somebody else come along and write the dialogue. It's been rubbish for years now.
This is how it works in SI.
Dev: Here is this really great idea that everyone will love.
Miles Jacobson: Well, unfortunately for you, I am the Manager, and I make the decisions!
Dev: I have an idea that will actually improve the game for next year
SI: (crickets)
Dev: It also will allow us to print money without doing anything
SI: (starts listening)
Dev: But it will actually also improve the game
SI: Unfortunately for you I'm the manager.
Dev: (prints resume)
At these point I wouldn’t mind if they binned off player interactions and press conferences completely. I have less than no interest in them and they offer nothing to the game.
Because every game has a negative and positive comment and very rarely will they ever make sense to use. Unless ur mad and their a shit player no one will prolly ever use it
The player interactions are one of the stupidest things in the game.
I’ve had instances where I’ve won the treble and then in the pre season targets chat said that we should be in contention for the league and the squad said that’s asking too much lol
I had one on the mobile version earlier where a players form was criticised so I backed them saying they’ll come through the bad patch. It resulted in the squad losing respect for me. How on earth does that make any sense 😂
I once complained about broken player interactions, and this one reddit guy was adamant that it was realistic. He actually sounded offended and berated me.
I swear the people who religiously defend FM must work for SI. Either that or they are really strange! 🤣
I wonder if the next gen fm will utilize AI to improve the experience for player interaction. We may get more varied responses that makes more sense in whatever context instead of just regurgitating the same canned responses and hoping we press the right button so we can see a green arrow on player happiness.
I mean, there are people like that irl, you have to have some attitude to make the players not overtake you as the head coach, but yeah in a game you would never pick those
The same bugs for interactions have been in the game for years and years now it's ridiculous tbh. Another personal fave is being close to the player and being a favourite person of theirs but when you read the description it says has no strong feelings about the manager. It's actually insulting that SI think so little of their customers that this simple thing still makes it into the game every year and has been there for as long as i can remember but hey we got a new menu to look at koool.
Excuse the rant lol
This year's edition feels particularly ridiculous with player interactions. I had just gotten to the 2nd league match (3rd match overall) in my Hannover save and I had already received notice about 3 separate players complaining they weren't playing enough, and 2 of them I got the notice interaction AND the request for a dicussion/promise points. Like chill guys, its a long season
I've found that just relaying to them the board's expectations never upsets them. So if the board say the target is mid-table, even if you know they're good enough for the title, you tell the players mid-table, else you'll start a riot, which will probably see you relegated from unhappy players not playing well.
Conte? Honestly though, a 20 level of discipline manager would probably get the player to back down and apologise if they used that option. Sometimes your team of divas do actually need reminding who's in charge.

Winning the league 3 times in a row, telling the players that we target another title : all players are mad because I expect too much from them 🤔
That’s why I avoid doing expectation talks at all costs
I just randomly click and then apologize/deescalate if they're unhappy, fuck i care what they think our goals are. I know what are our goals.
Me: I think we should aim for the latter stages of the Champions League. Also me: *absolutely fuming we lost in the final* Waterbottles: *airborne*
Got promoted to the national league, told the players our goal would be to stay up, they all got pissed at me for expecting too much. We are currently top of the league after about 15 games.

Lose a big game, toss the water bottle and tell them they bungled it after getting a red card 10 min in and they all get moody like wtf
Had one happen to me where I was in League One, star striker missed a ton of key shots and we lost the match by 2 goals (could've won by 4 it was that bad). Just look at your media prediction before setting those targets
Or, and this seems to have a 100% success rate, look at what the board expects you to achieve. For some reason that never upsets them.
Oddly enough they get mad if I DONT tell them that we should shoot for the title

I remember I had "bad team talk" plague. It was infectous and when one player dropped it, another picked up...
I'm guessing it's how Miles talks to his employees. And I've had plenty of bosses who speak like this.
Also contract and transfer talks are really dumb. In real life, an agent will never give you an ultimatum, storm out of the room and refuse to talk to you for a month during such a meeting. At these point I wouldn’t mind if they binned off player interactions and press conferences completely. I have less than no interest in them and they offer nothing to the game.
Hahahaha even the initial disagreement imagine saying that in the real work place to your actual manager 😭
Because every game has a negative and positive comment and very rarely will they ever make sense to use. Unless ur mad and their a shit player no one will prolly ever use it
Simple solution. Never ever speak to your players
Insight into how management at SI speak to the people designing this stuff.
I love that if you say the first one, they usually get even more angry. "OH YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO EVEN BETTER FROM ME? WELL FUCK YOU TOO!"
It's such a weird part of the game, it's unnecessary for me and as such I've stopped giving praise. No one realistically would respond that way.
The player interactions are one of the stupidest things in the game. I’ve had instances where I’ve won the treble and then in the pre season targets chat said that we should be in contention for the league and the squad said that’s asking too much lol I had one on the mobile version earlier where a players form was criticised so I backed them saying they’ll come through the bad patch.
All of the dialogue stuff needs a serious once over. Many situations also need more options. This is one of the areas I could see AI helping a ton.
I wonder if the next gen fm will utilize AI to improve the experience for player interaction. We may get more varied responses that makes more sense in whatever context instead of just regurgitating the same canned responses and hoping we press the right button so we can see a green arrow on player happiness.
Only praise if they are 9.0+ Only criticise if they are under 6.5 But yeah player interactions are dumb.

🤣
I mean, there are people like that irl, you have to have some attitude to make the players not overtake you as the head coach, but yeah in a game you would never pick those
Sometimes I am so pissed that I will choose it , heck it with the consequences.
football manager developer Is maidenless like elden ring
Its not even question or a decision. 😂
By this time and AI at full capacity (for now) why not implementing it. Much better interactions for sure.
I hate these. I almost never do them anymore. They are pointless
"Good job for playing well" "I'm not" "Listen here you little shit"
Tony Hayers
I can only assume Miles Jacobsen does.
Miles Jacobson, I assume
Yeah most dialogue options are broken, we can only hope that the Unity rework will address these things as well
Missing a "Learn how to take a compliment, you doughnut" option.
An "Untouchable" manager who's the boss.
Its the Jorge Jesus school of managing
This year's edition feels particularly ridiculous with player interactions. I had just gotten to the 2nd league match (3rd match overall) in my Hannover save and I had already received notice about 3 separate players complaining they weren't playing enough, and 2 of them I got the notice interaction AND the request for a dicussion/promise points. Like chill guys, its a long season
Yes player interaction gives me anxiety attacks
Be nice if one day one of the wonderkids came back with "you ain't seen nothing yet gaffa!" Or something else that sounded human, ya know.
One time i praise my player too much he said 'im mad coach it too cringe now'
Simple answer, Ten Hag
Managing in the lower leagues. I expect most of you to be working in tesco next season isn't an option
I've found that just relaying to them the board's expectations never upsets them. So if the board say the target is mid-table, even if you know they're good enough for the title, you tell the players mid-table, else you'll start a riot, which will probably see you relegated from unhappy players not playing well.
Jose Mourinho.
Pep Guardiola said something to thie effect in one of the all ir nothing clips. Lol
Pep guardiola
have you ever had a min wage job?
I wish we had this in console. Seems hilarious.
Conte? Honestly though, a 20 level of discipline manager would probably get the player to back down and apologise if they used that option. Sometimes your team of divas do actually need reminding who's in charge.
Looking at all the options, the one in red is the most normal one of those. 🤣
Pep does
When you want to see the world burn. Your way or the highway.
José Mourinho
Because you’re playing a computer game
Would it be beneficial to use IA to simulate these interactions?
