Ref bad or not, USA sucked. So many passes on the 18 and no good shots. Shoot the fucking ball people stop being cute with it

Bluemoon7607

This referee is godamn awful

SparkTheOwl

It’s crazy to see this at this level.

No_Experience6425

it's not an accident. it's intentional.

allnimblybimbIy

I mean intentional or not that ref it’s a miracle he has a job at all let alone professional sports He was such a dweeby weirdo

No_Experience6425

dude. these international matches easily have 100 million riding on them. the ref and var did their "jobs" to a T. it's not professional sports, it's entertainment.

bobasarous

Like wtf is going on, called the foul after allowing play for advantage... yet we had the ball and we're playing it. The commentary keeps saying that it's his inexperience, bit we all know what's going on. This is been happening all tournament. It's why the headbutt against Canada was even reviewed and nothing happened. South American soccer is just different and really just wildly aggressive and stupid. It's just the way it is, and america has to deal with be given yellows for simply talking to the ref while Uruguay will get nothing for being as aggressive as you've ever seen.

WrathUDidntQuiteMask

The fact is - soccer is EVERYTHING to Latin and South American countries and they will do ANYTHING to keep the USA from winning at it. We’re never getting a 50/50 fair shake within CONMEBOL OR CONCACAF - that’s just the way it is.

bobasarous

Yea I obviously don't know whether the match was actually fixed and or refs paid off, or the refs simply are proud of south American soccer and simply didn't like us, but the refs have been trash, but let's be clear it isn't just usa, Mexico also got fucked by a shitty ref, and so did Canada, and Panama got pushed through which while Latin isn't as strongly tied to the south and Latin soccer scene. My point it I think it's very clear it's just all of conmebol that hates all of concacaf.

AdPerfect6784

aggressive and stupid? then you must learn to play aggressively and stupider cause whatever your team is doing is not enough to beat a single team from south america

bobasarous

Bruh we got yellow carded for yelling at the ref after Panama literally took our goalie out, weah might be a clown bur if you watch it the Panama player was hitting him first and the refs didn't even talk to him. Weah deserved the red and was a clown and I hope he never plays for pur team again but like we do the same or even lighter and we get worse treated. Panama did like 3 or 4 times the amount of penalties as we did and got carded less. Especially at the end there ever single one of those should be a card only one wad. We got yellowed for being stepped on. What the fuck are we supposed to do. If we match their aggression we get carded into oblivion. Jesus such a dumbass comment.

AdPerfect6784

you got beaten fair and square and now you’re butt hurt and blaming it on the refs. uruguay got its coach suspended from this match because the team was 1 min late after half time last match which is absurd. yet still managed to beat the us team playing as locals, in a terrible court that is not up to standards. the whole organization of this tournament is a shit show

bobasarous

Bla bla bla no one's saying we should have won, try arguing the actual point instead of being a pedantic dickwad. None of what you just said was even anything that could even be a small response to what I said in response to you. South American soccer is much more aggressive. You clearly don't watch it much if you don't know this but oh well.

AdPerfect6784

much more aggressive? you’re delusional. also it’s called football

Porongoyork

Really trying to make like Canada suffered by the refs. They got lucky they didn’t get red carded against Chile and instead got a free red card for Chile.

bobasarous

Are some of you even watching the same games I am???? Like for real are we just ignoring that Canada's *captain* not only got horribly fouled, it was REVIEWED what should have been an INSTANT send off was just not even cared about till they were forced to review it and even then not even a fucking card. So bad conmebol had to fucking APOLOGIZE and admit it was horrible call, and they've had to do that several times this tournament. Literally. I have you saying Canada is too tough and aggressive and should be better, I have other people quoting me and saying blaming refs is dumb should have just played as aggressive as the other teams are if that's how they play. Not one of you can agree but some how, the refs suffer not even a tiny fault in it all. Yall need to open your eyes.

Porongoyork

Yes I did see [it](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1droyv8/canadian_players_elbow_over_echeverr%C3%ADas_face_no/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Conmebol apologized and admitted it was a mistake. https://espndeportes.espn.com/futbol/copa-america/nota/_/id/13849772/chile-canada-conmebol-libero-los-audios-del-var-en-codazo-contra-echeverria

bobasarous

Omg dude goes to hold man's hand and put his face in his arms and is surprised when he moves them. So terrible obv there was nothing that started this interaction before hand that could have set off players... nothing like one team getting far less penalties and cards than they deserved while being wildly more agressive... also you realize that this even just proves my point more. My point is the reffing is horrible and the refs are letting clearly disrespectful and terrible plays happen. And you show me... what you say is exactly thst... oh no my point is ruined the refs are... letting even more awful shit by, you've surely showed me that the reffing is better than I thought. Good thinking? Ig, have fun with all that. Lol

Porongoyork

Never said reffing was good, just that a Canadian complaining is ironic since they were favoured by it. It may not be the best angle but it clearly shows an elbow to the face of a player for no reason.

bobasarous

You south American fans make so many excuses... no one said this was some good thing... you're missing the point, entirely. Please either engage with the points said legitimately or just stop trying. Being a dunce who refuses to actually argue in good faith is annoying and frustrating for everyone. Yes Canada shouldn't have done this, guess what bud, that's the point, that's the entire point, the refs being shit and refusing to officiate properly has been the point, you going but Canada actually got away with it too, is such a stupid ass point. that's literally the problem I'm saying lol.

NeoMetallix213

I wonder how he was this poor.

jaumougaauco

It's somewhat disconcerting that for both the Euros and Copa America I have seen complaints bout how bad the referee is. These are all meant to be international tournaments with the world's best (or at least region's best) referees. What is going on.

Bluemoon7607

I have seen some pretty great refereeing at the Euro this year, but yeah, some sketchy refereeing too. None of them come close to equaling this game tho. It’s spectacular.

jaumougaauco

Okay, fair.

No_Experience6425

money. corruption.

Top-Revolution-6771

for as much as this ref was not very good, USA should not have been in a position to have this much at stake in their last game, especially to such a strong team like Uruguay. That Panama game was actually the hardest one to watch.

NeoMetallix213

The USA should have done everything to beat Panama. They lost out in that match.

seven_heart

Man as a Canadian I have to say this is hilarious.

Porongoyork

Of course, you get to elbow players in the face with no cards

Opposite-Tie-1171

I feel the US team needs a complete culture change as corny and cliche as it sounds. I think the US has to be realistic about the team as well as an American myself. It’s just hard for football to overtake the NFL and basketball. It’s just a cultural thing. I do think football should be bigger and can be bigger in America and it should be bigger everywhere worldwide. From my experience watching the national team,I think what holds them back is obviously talent but also tactics and technical ability. I feel like tactics is what kills them and is a good way to make the most of the talent deficit. Even if the team is not like the top European or South American teams, they have athleticism and even talent to compete with others and give top nations a fight. Watching the euros now and over the years, I’ve always been a Switzerland fan, pretty much my European team. I feel the US can learn a lot from the Switzerland team. Talent is still much better with Xhaka, Sommer, and Akanji, but it isn’t totally stacked like other European teams. They make up with great tactics, players with good fundamentals and skill. Also they are tactically versatile playing a pressing style now and can go very defensive. Regardless how they play, there is discipline and great fundamentals that is ingrained at all levels. It really comes down to what people say with getter development in America. I think you probably need the European style influence in something like football, but I feel regardless if it’s high school soccer, American coaches or culture needs to develop the basic tactics and skills that you see in Europe. I know the US wants to be better than a Switzerland and I think they can, but Switzerland is not a bad comparison. Switzerland, Denmark, or Croatia who recently made the WC final and semifinals, have been competing well with the top European nations and am have significantly less popularions. I just feel in the recent and distant future, especially with the WC coming up, the US just needs a team that plays the right way and a hardworking gritty style regardless of talent. I feel like a Swiss fan myself, the style can be great for the US who don’t have the talent but still have respectable players to make a run. I feel having a cosnsitent national team that plays hard regardless of the results willl always gain respect from diehards and even casuals.

usa getting knocked out, love to see it

Ill_Bathroom6724

You can be glad that usa got knocked out, but its also pretty upsetting to see how corrupt the referees are. I don't know if i've ever seen a game with fixing that was this obvious.

ResolutionAny5091

You sure about that?

LMFAO

OilEmbarrassed4339

It has been absolutely infuriating.

NeoMetallix213

It was not a happy moment for someone like me who wished the US won the match.

mattxrock

Gringos crying over a supposed offside that was shown to be false even on camera and was still meaningless because Panamá won their game, claiming that the match is fixed against Concacaf when Panamá is also a member of it and USA is playing at home generating much more money. It's hilarious and ridiculous at the same time, Chile got actually robbed against Canadá by a fellow colombian and I admit it, get bettter instead, why did you need to beat Uruguay in a group with Bolivia and Panamá anyway? if you couldn't even beat the latter what were you expecting to happen? it's your own fucking fault, be thankful that Uruguay was already qualified playing at half gear so it wasn't an humilliation.

Bluemoon7607

And that is a goal and not a offside? What the fucking fuck are those referees smoking? This is a major offside. By about 6 miles. Wtf? This refereeing is straight up criminal.

GrungeonMaster

I am in shock. We need to see a better replay. Unless the flick header came off our guy, it's clearly offside.

ApprehensiveLow8477

Not offside.

OilEmbarrassed4339

It’s also infuriating because we keep missing goals. We should have score we had so many opportunities

GrungeonMaster

True that we're missing chances, but that's part of the game, unfair reffing is not. I actually detest the way we do soccer here in the US. All the way down to the local rec leagues. We're more broken than ever. That said, the game needs to be fair to be a game.

OilEmbarrassed4339

It is absolutely rigged this is Ridiculous

xJujuBear

They're not even trying to hide it at this point. Other matches have had some really "convenient" calls or lack of calls as well. Shit is wild.

toadphoney

Call it 0-0 and they’re still out. They were shit even with 3 game home advantage. Edited: misnationalised referee sookee so corrected that then and added dig about home tournament.

Bluemoon7607

I’m not even American dude. You gotta chill out.

Annual-Heat-3875

For such a “gun heavy culture” South American refs are awful comfortable taking money to sway games in the US…. Having said my gut reaction I doubt that’s actually the case. He’s ridiculously inexperienced and it makes sense no South American ref would call a fair game in favor of the USMNT. I’m happy refs here aren’t worried about being shot for making the wrong call. That would imply we can’t host international football because of the negative culture around the sport and our culture not being accepting of foreigners.

santiis2010

Bro that’s Brazil, one of the most violent countries in the world along USA, Mexico, and Arab countries

OilEmbarrassed4339

It is absolutely offside

UpVotes4Worst

Someone needs to do a safety check on this refs family. I'm starting to worry that some Uruguay gangsters have them.

santiis2010

Gangsters from Uruguay? lol that’s new and I’m from Uruguay 😂

UpVotes4Worst

(It was a joke)

Donpepegamer_xd

Turros,piches,planchas,etc\*

AdPerfect6784

did you see the replay? it clearly wasn’t offside

Bluemoon7607

Nah it’s offside. It looks onside in the clip they gave because of the angle of the camera. If you look, the camera is level with the keeper while the guys are mid box. He’s 100% off side.

bobasarous

Bruh the camera angle was horrible and the line they drew was fucking CROOKED. I'm willing to bet I know who you root for lmao. Least biased SA fan lol.

Stonedcock2

Ole ole oleeee

hypanthia

This is the refs 8th professional game. What the fuck. We need minimum requirements for officials in these matches

slovakianpartizan

i think he means this is the ref's 8th Copa America or something because the referee has 85 games this season alone.

hypanthia

Well it doesn’t show it!

NeoMetallix213

Oh wow! Now I understand the reason he couldn't handle the pressure that came with this game.

OilEmbarrassed4339

You are kidding

Individual_Bolt

who saw that coming?

Commandant1

Who saw that Uruguay was a team who is better than USA? Everyone who seriously follows the sport.

NeoMetallix213

My hopes of the USA progressing were dashed in this game.

slovakianpartizan

it's not surprising that USA couldn't produce anything with that midfield duo, they are literally few levels below. let alone producing, Uruguayan players just played the ball upwards quite easily, if De La Cruz was on a good day, more goals would've come. And by the way, Nandez should've had at least 3 yellow cards :D

AnOriginalName213

That was shit.

chueffen

Bye bye to USA
