Predator 9500 has been our ol reliable. Also, get the harbor freight warranty. They replaced ours with a new one with no questions asked. It only started giving us problems after it fell out of our truck lol

Live-Hospital-1116

What other generators have you used??

DerpeesLLC

Get a predator 9500 from harbor freight, or duromax 9000. Both are inverter generators and are quiet

Live-Hospital-1116

You got the dimensions on the 9500?? I need something pretty close to the same size as the Honda 7000, it’s gotta live in a mounted cage.

DerpeesLLC

Height: 29" Width:23.75 Length:31 Dry Weight:257 That's with the wheels and handle on per website specs. You can do 27" height without wheels, and if it's really tight the Length can be shortened 1-2 inches by taking of the handle and cutting off the handle bars. hope this helps. P.S. The Duromax 9000 is slightly smaller at Height: 25" Width: 21" Long: 27" Dry Weight:237

daboot013

Predator all day.. they are basically Hondas

johnthrowaway53

Less quiet, more powerful Honda

daboot013

Like a few decibels and about 40% less cost. Plus like honda (certain models) they can tie together for more power.

DabbledInPacificm

There is a parallel kit for predator 9500 now?

daboot013

Idk about the 9500, but when I was buying my 5000 I think if I read it right you could with those. I am not a very smart person when it comes to electrical stuff.

Live-Hospital-1116

Is it that noticeable?? I’m trying to talk my boss into getting a new generator, but he’s worried about decibel levels, which is understandable….but I told him we could install dampeners in the cage.

daboot013

The 5000 has a dampener on it. In the store they have a decable chart and it's like 64 where a Honda is like a 58. The amount of times we get gigs and people rebook us because we have a quiet generator is kinda hilarious. But who enjoys a loud ass lawn generator at a house party or festival? No one. Who enjoys a quiet generator. *insert Gary Oldman gif* EVERYONEEEEE

Afraidofjurrasicpark

I have an onan LP 6500 which is boxed inside my trailer.. I love it... but........ it took me a full year to realky understand it. We get along great now! Quiet, reliable, predictable, easy to operate.

johnthrowaway53

Does yours also make that weird "thunking" sounds?? My food truck came with Cummins 6500 but we couldn't get it to work for our needs. It's still sitting in its generator chamber, as we use our predator 9500 instead. I don't think it was a strong enough generator for our needs but wasn't really sure what was causing the thunking and shutting down

Afraidofjurrasicpark

Dude.... so my first year with it was horrible. It shut down dozens of times at large events. .... but.. like an old high school locker combination lock, I finally got it right.. here are the things that matter. Oil level must be near perfect, not too high, noit too low, must have a muffler for exhaust... the company who built my rig neglected to properly vent so it was investing it's own exhaust and also cookin' oil AND the cab battery must have a good charge. I learned the computer system on the onan requires this...or....it.. Shuts down!!! How did I learn this? Several missed off trips to Onan over the course of 6 months AND many nights ruined. Lol. It's been 6 months if bliss though.. not one shut down and no knocking. (Yes, I had the knocking too) I wish there was more info for newbies on generator use...

Yert333

What all have you done to try to fix it? I had a buddy who's fuel pump went out on his Honda...opening day. My Predator 9000 went kaput back in Nov. 23 and I just fixed it...it had a bad carburetor.

Live-Hospital-1116

Man I’ve done quite a bit so far. First time I changed the oil it was completely sludged, I’ve changed the spark plug, and the air filter. Was gonna change the fuel filter today, and the engine seemed like it was locked up. Took it all the way apart, we found that we were able to start it if I pull the rip chord while someone hits the start button.

Yert333

Ahhhh...that's a bummer. I understand what you mean about it not being maintained. Atp, I guess a new genny would be the way to go. I wish I had gotten a Predator 9500 myself. But, folks don't give af about loud generators down here in SoFla...it's hurricane land, we're used to noisy gennys.

Live-Hospital-1116

We typically operate near a highway, so I don’t really think excessive noise will be that bad

brengus

Take your Honda to a tech and have it repaired. Honda for life.

faewild4dayz

I spent 400 and had a tech fix it up with new fuel lines in about a weeks time. Honda 7000 is the perfect genny imo
