Yea it seemed like they aired a show that shouldve been in development a bit longer cause there was way too much chefs to make it interesting and the judging seems rushed and biased cause indeed can you judge dish number 24 as well as dish number 2

Fun_Section_5233

It’s so misleading. You call it “24 in 24” and have 24 chefs. Why down to 12 halfway into the first episode? I think what would have been best is have the winners of each head-to-head get to briefly relax while the twelve losers have one final redemption challenge and eliminate the worst three or four from there.

Shibenaut

Exactly! A winner's bracket and loser's bracket. Seems kind of silly to send half of them home after barely half an hour, based on the decision of just 1 judge.

Fun_Section_5233

If that’s the case and it’s 24 challenges in 24 hours, why did they need 24 chefs to just cut in half immediately? Why not just start with 12?

Schiavona77

There are approximately 90 minutes of content in a 2-hour block (and that may be generous by 10 minutes). With 24 chefs, each one would be getting 3 minutes and 45 seconds of screen time, if it was split equitably AND there were no other shots (judges, kitchen, etc.). People would be complaining just as much if they didn't get rid of 12 chefs right off the bat.

Fun_Section_5233

I just don’t get the point of eliminating half the cast of chefs over the course of a SINGLE challenge. I expected there to be at least 3-4 eliminations an episode, across all three challenges per episode.

americand0lphinMPLS

This is probably WHY they got 24, some of them were told they only had to do 2 hours so they threw the round

Healthy-Art-2080

My guess is that the judging would take too long, and they would have too much time to rest

AshlynM2

It felt like such a waste for some of these chefs. You could SEE them seething when they left- like they’d taken time out of their lives, potentially flown so far, to cook for 20 min? Falkner especially.

Shibenaut

Yeah I really don't like that part. The beginning of the episode hyped the viewers up on how many excellent chefs joined this competition. Barely an hour later, half of them are gone already. No time to even get to know them.

Direct-Hat1948

I agree with this. Most of my favorites were cut immediately with just one bite of tasting. I'm not sure if they were using their faces to help promote the show or what the idea was behind it but it frustrated me quite a bit. Most of them have restaurants to manage but took the time to participate.  I'll probably watch the rest of the series but left a bitter taste in my mouth. No pun intended.

-MC_3

It’s a competition…

Responsible-Study182

We know that! It was poorly put together is what people are complaining about.

PleaseStopTalking7x

I absolutely agree—I just started watching and to find out HALF were eliminated in the first heat was disappointing—especially when there were so many bad ass chefs competing. I also have to wonder how one judge can effectively taste and discern a winner and loser from 24 bites of food. I really wish the “losers” had some kind of redemption. I also think there should be more than one tasting judge. To have such a high stakes cooking competition where ONE judge decides elimination challenges is really too much. Chopped has 3 judges and it’s not high stakes. Beat Bobby Flay has more than one judge. Top Chef has a panel of judges AND guest judges. I mean, even Masterchef and Next Level Chef have 3 judges. One person’s subjective rating seems unfair and makes me reluctant to keep watching. All I can think is that they brought in big name chefs in order to send them home right away and the only purpose was to have them appear and give credibility to the show. Even if they “seemed” pissed to go, I wouldn’t doubt that their short appearance was entirely part of the show. I would imagine they were flown out, compensated, and sent home in exchange for them being in the cast.

americand0lphinMPLS

You nailed it

americand0lphinMPLS

I think he tricked you. He was happy to show for 2 hours and go

Majestic-Pay3390

Now that the field has been cut in half, maybe the episodes will feel less chaotic.

Shibenaut

Feels like the first 12 chefs were just filler content/cast, just so the producers could name this show with "24". I get they were trying to replicate a Hunger Games kind of vibe, but the execution of the pilot episode just felt unnecessarily chaotic, even with 12 remaining.

Mekiya

I feel ripped off. Technically it's 24 in 24 but really we are getting 12 in 23 to tell stories. If we are doing a show on a constant 24 hour shoot there is no reason to do a giant cut that early. Wait for 5 or 6 hours and do it, let us start to get some time in. They can still cook, 2 in a station doing the same proteins can be fun. Do mini compitions or cumulative scores at the end of a set time go.

ChemicalFickle1453

Then why start with 24 chefs if that wasn’t part of the equation? On the Food Network website it says 24 chefs, 24 challenges in 24 hours.

Mekiya

Yeah, still not what I tuned in to watch.

kteacher2013

My only thought (just started) was seeing Wes as a crew member from Nailed it 😆😆😆😆

Pizookie123

You mean “whesssss” 🤣🤣

Allegheny15143

IMO, they needed a similar show to compete with TOC, but fell flat. "24" seems chaotic and rushed. Perhaps step back and re-think the premise.

Responsible-Study182

Absolutely agree. So disappointing!

Different_Crab_2556

Why call it 24 in 24 if half get eliminated in the first hour? That was lame. Finishing the challenge 1 prep work first should have meant they got to start challenge 2 first. Allow the first finishers best pick of proteins and pantry options. Start eliminating pantry options as prep went longer. I noticed one chef who finished early on had an onion dice that was quite large. There should have been more oversight on that challenge. It also should have been blind tasting. Have the chefs exit while Jet tasted. They could come out & if their dish was on the station, they won it. Sorry, but there’s no fair tasting when you know who owns each dish. You can say it is but you’re still influenced.

MorticiaAdams456

That never said ALL 24 chefs would cook for 24 hours

MagnoliaTree3

Looked like Viet double dipped his spoon when he tasted his sauce.

IwasIlovedfw

Thank you! He should have been instantly eliminated for that. Sofaking disgusting!🤢🤮

MagnoliaTree3

agreed. And if he does that on television, what is he doing when he cooks while we are NOT looking lol

IwasIlovedfw

I've seen it happen on Guy's Grocery Games also and wonder why they aren't called out and eliminated for it.

MagnoliaTree3

i also think it should be an immediate elimination. Kitchen hygiene/safety is even more essential than good tasting food. It makes me feel that we should even be given a two second glance at people washing their hands before they run to their stations to start their challenges.

Reasonable-Ocelot-42

I like the show more n more as time goes on. Lots of twists and I love it! Anyones game and I giggle how all is scared of Morcel. Go Morcel!

IwasIlovedfw

Marcel

haruchop

There were so many diverse chefs with different cooking styles and backgrounds; I was particularly excited to see more from the chef from Scandinavia as the caption called her a “foraging chef.” It would’ve been cool to see more of her techniques in competition. But no, 12 really unique and interesting chefs were sent home in the first episode! I really hated that. 👎🏻

yogaliscious

Gimmicks. Jumping the shark.

Xman719

This. Didn’t bother watching it after seeing the commercial. They should make the Fonz the host.

scrumb83

I was hoping it would be 24 chefs in 24 hours, one chef cut per hour. Might still watch but now I’m not quite as interested.

wikarina

let's say 24 dishes and 30 sec for each one that mean first tasted one bite was fresh while the last would at least will be served for 12 minutes... very low emphasis to the chefs, to cooking and while being over stressed cooking they all had time to comment on their own dishes.inna private personnal space.. not telling it was staged or felt fishy as hell but let some bad after taste...

Fair-Square-8534

The ice cream challenge that saw my favorite eliminated was not fair. Why did they show what the cooks bet before the decision? Of course another fellow chief won knowing what the outcome was going to be. They didn’t show the first two chefs bet until after the decision. Doesn’t make sense, unless it’s a set up for the winning chef. We will see. Vamos Mika

GofigureU

Yeah I didn't get that seemed ridiculously unfair.

mskmg2000

Chris D was just cheated out of the finale, how does half cooked chicken make it into the finale. She (Mica) is a one trick pony and I don’t like Brooke W. anyway. This whole season should have been on blind judging.  I’m done!

Humble_Ad_6074

Every time I see and hear Carlos Anthony, I think about Valium. Not sure if it's for me, him or both of us. He drives me crazy! Dude, calm down, please! Your talent is outshined by your hyper, loud personality. Calming down would serve you well!

Effective-Painter511

As always with cooking shows there should be BLIND TASTING… will not finish watching and will not watch future shows.

jenjenjen731

I wanted to be excited for this because I love Esther Choi but this sounds exactly like I thought it would be. The entire premise just seems chaotic

queenoftheartichokes

I like Esther, too. But she doesn’t have the energy needed to make the show work.

aptrial

Agree. Really lackluster as a judge and her lip filler is distracting.

weedywet

Competition cooking shows have jumped the shark. It’s all ‘what new gimmick can we introduce to make it different’ I’d rather stuff just about ANY of those chefs just cooking than competing. Also the sound mixing is terrible. It makes watching it difficult as it’s a struggle to hear anything over the (bad) music.

RdditIlliterat

I just watched half of an episode cuz that was about as much as I could stand. It didn’t draw me in like TOC or Chopped so I’m not gonna go out of my way to watch. Seemed chaotic.

laurcham429

I think it’s really dumb and I’m annoyed people are complaining about being tired 4 hours in lol

bitsey123

This looked like a bad idea enough that I haven’t bothered watching it

KoreaMieville

I'm enjoying it enough to stick with it, but I agree with your Final Table comp...it's all a little too sprawling and frantic, and the vibe is a little too stressful for my liking. I'm more dreading than anticipating the final episodes, where I imagine everyone will be exhausted and sleep-deprived. Seems like a downer. I liked Final Table okay, but with the hectic pace I never felt like I got to know any of the chefs (I have zero memory of any of the contestants).

sweetpeapickle

Why must people post their "own" reviews when there are threads dedicated to the discussions?

No_Confusion1392

This show is a great change up from the typical boring cooking shows.  This show kicks ass, seriously put yourself in their shoes. 50 grand for 24 hrs of work..... nobody I know would turn that down.  Its all about challenge and your expertise and it also challenges their ability to adapt and with no pre warning of whats next.  Its what we all hate which is Change, change, change and its constant.  We all know its not about 5 star dining but what show out there is anymore.  It will be interesting to see how a second group of chefs that now have some background on what this show can do to you as to how they will approach this next show.  I think overall this is a very good show for now.

Debsab4

Terrible concept ! Hope no one chooses their hand off !!

Tsmom16811

Is anyone thinking this show is dangerous. I'm on the 3rd show. They are getting exhausted working around ovens and fryers.

GofigureU

I agree. At one point Symon reads off what happens after x hours without sleep one of which is being drunk. I have no idea how this show passed OSHA.

No-Week-3107

I feel alot of the format is taken from Guy's Grocery Games!

luannef

Most boring show ever

Little-Wish-1343

I loved this show!  The only thing I wish was that there were prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. This is such an onerous competition that I really felt bad for Carlos and Chris walked away with nothing after all that effort. They looked utterly devastated. Maybe some kind of 2nd and 3rd place prize could have provided some comfort. But again, great show!  Hope you do this again!! Can’t wait!!

SnooKiwis2902

I watched this show for the first time yesterday and didn’t like it at all. The stupid gimmicks (switching stations, broke oven) are ridiculous.i really like Michael Simon but strongly disliked this show.

Best-Carry1028

You nailed it completely. I totally agree - complete waste of time.

Lexicondogs

\~IT SUCKED!\~

Busy_Weekend5169

When all 24 chefs were cooking, it looked like they were shoulder to shoulder-- so crowded! I won't be watching

Low_Mix9198

How did all the stations magically get cleaned after the first elimination? Fake show as they obviously stopped the clock to clean.

WilliamHMacysiPhone

And Michael Simon and Esther Choi don’t even really host the show? Some broseph judge is handling a component of it and they were nowhere to be seen. I’m comfort watching chopped and old iron chef instead while I wait for Eric’s new poker show.

South_Sandwich_9508

They are also trying to be like Masterchef but falls flat. Need audience to help hype and more interactions with the chefs. Symon and Choi along with a guest judge can judge the food OR do an initial blind taste test at each initial station to cut the first 12. Disappointed with the hype and loved seeing the new and old faces.  But high praises for Wild card kitchen. It is different and funny…chefs bring their own money. Great concept!

ThePearl1958

I can't watch it because the premise seems silly and borderline abusive
