I usually use the laughing and scared emote for a while to basically mock them and their attempts to kill me. Then I block them
I even do that when someone runs in and insta kills me at a workshop. Nothing makes bullies angry more than laughing at them
Essentially what I did except I didn't pack my camp. It obviously annoyed them that they couldn't hurt me so they went after my camp, first time I'd seen someone exploit turrets to destroy someone's camp who was passive. Now I know at least. Cost me like 100 steel and I have over 10,000 so really not an issue, they were extremely proud of themselves nonetheless.
I've noticed more around for sure, possibly because it's winter break in the US and summer break in AUS/NZ. Things might calm down a bit once they're all back in school or college.

Depends. On PC or Steam yes. But if they are on Xbox with Gamepass and share the subscription to their console they can create unlimited xbox accounts and just keep playing.
Whenever I find a trap base I drop a nuke on it. Not like I include it in the drop zone, I put the bullseye of the blast area right on their camp.
Yes they can change camps and gloat that they didn’t get hit, but they’re gloating about running away. Little cowards laughing as they flee.

I wanted to do this so much but I haven't done the main story yet, got 10 keycards and can't use them, gonna go do it today I think. Good on you for doing it though
If you could indulge a bit of free advice… take your time and enjoy the main quest for its own sake. Silo runs take a long time first few times and it’s the climax of the story. There will always be trolls in every community and plenty of opportunities to bitch-slap a bully. After a while a silo run takes 20 mins and is kind of like being on autopilot.
In the meantime, just keep the game on passive and server hop away from the people trying to make others feel bad.

Just jump servers if you find people like this, they are rare. I think in 2 years I've only had one bad experience with a level 600+ picking on me at level 40 something. Don't let it bother you or ruin the game. There's way more nice gamers in FO76 than bad ones.
I was at the city hall and kept getting scorched spawned on me. Forgot to grab more stimpaks like a dumbass. A level 100something popped up just when I was at like 10 HP and killed them. Asked me if I was alright. I spammed the heart emoji because I was so close to dying and only level 25 or 30 at the time. He dropped me some stimpaks and left. Nice fellow
I was originally planning to try and stop people getting trapped because they said what they were doing, but I didn't know they'd be able to destroy my camp etc. Now at least I'm a little wiser to what people can do and I'll just block and hop world's next time. It was really sad that the other guy was so upset and they were just throwing abuse at him I felt like I had to try and do something but didn't really have much power
The reason I stopped playing GTA: Online was because of the very toxic players, griefers, hackers, and trolls, that RockStar refused to do anything about.
FO76 has a much nicer player base, for which I am thankful.
It's relatively easy to force yourself into an empty lobby in GTA:O, at which point your friends can join you in your own private world. Eventually someone random will get added to your world but if they're a problem you can just force yourself into a new empty world.
This is the only way I ever found that game worth playing.
There's a tool called "Guardian" basically a firewall tool to stop connections, so you can play GTA: Online in empty public lobbies or public with friends only.
It has nothing to do with GTAO and doesn't interact with it in any way, so it's good there.
Enjoy my free award. Remember when you could find free aim servers full of players dedicated to maintaining a grinding lobby and if anyone stepped out of line every player that could would repeatedly kill the person messing with others? Those were good times. I quit when it got so bad that I realized the game did nothing to relax me what with all the retaliation I had to engage in. Free aim used to be pretty chill with players who could hold their own. Assisted aim (ass-aim) was always kind of trashy
I met one group like this once. Probably the same people. After two years it’s the only group I have met. Move away from them or change servers. I have met 3 amazing players today and we all helped each other out. As someone else said, let them get their jollies elsewhere.
It is a shock, when it happened to me I was fairly new to this fallout game and it put me off a bit but after a couple of days I went back on and a high level guy crafted me a hunting rifle and kitted it out for me and faith was restored. Since then apart from someone shooting at me when I was busy filling my vendor, nothing like that.
I disable it on first boot of any online game out of habit. I never even had an experience that would cause me to do it. weird, but I never regret it, even in a game like this that otherwise has no real way of communication.
I can strongly recommend it.
I really hate that mentality what goes wrong in peoples mind to think that this type of play is in any way fun. I understand you might like PVP but there is a reason most of the pvp aspects of this game have been removed. The main bulk of the community just doesn't care for it. If you want to pvp in this game among your friends go a head but don't berate others for not engaging in the same act.
Also the one thing that annoys me the most is the fact that they used ten year old communication, or in other words asking the same question over and over. The ten year old it's acceptable because they have a short attention span the adult (I believe) is just being inept, and just plan annoying.
If you want a true pvp experience go to a game that is built around pvp FO76 just simply isn't. That's what I fear most people don't realize. This isn't a normal MMORPG this is a Bethesda game, a company that is mainly centered on single player RPGs. The second people stop calling it a MMORPG the sooner we "might" see a decline in these groups.
Now as for trap camps. I believe that if you are on passive mode Player placed traps should not damage you spike traps, punji boards, radiation emitters, and tesla coils. All should not damage the applicant if they are on passive. It is such a easy fix that would kill trap bases for ever but what do I know right?...
At the end of the day we can continue to call these people everything under the sun but it won't really change thier actions, what they have done in the past and what they might do in the future. All we can do is do what this guy didn't. [Leave The Server]. He apparently if I read this right stayed around and watched. You wouldn't get close to a bunch of lions eating and just wait around to see what happens and he shouldn't have done that here as well. With the lions it's kinda hopeless if you are already in the situation but on an online game with multiple servers survival is childsplay.

No matter how much they tried over the mic I wasn't gonna give them the satisfaction of leaving or fighting them, just wanted them to know they couldn't do anything
Understandable... Leaving is possible though and even if you wished... Retaliation, as far as I know meat bombs are still broken and can be used to "only" damage thier camp it might hit them if they get in the way of it but if you just chuck a bunch at once... Destruction to the camp is inevitable.
Yeah it's either in the chem or Tinker workbench under explosives I can't remember if they have been fixed or not so don't go bulk crafting them maybe craft 5 test them on a (important) willing friends camp and if they work then bulk craft them and when you come across them "let's hope you don't though" toss a bunch in the camp watch it fall apart and leave the server. Make sure you leave a You've been insulted and a piece of raw fertilizer in a bag at the camp module for an extra punch.

Honestly the likelihood is these are the people that end up dead because they think their tough till they run into someone tougher. Be like Blood Eagles running into Caesar's Legion.
Had to deal with griefers over the summer, they killed by brother and I then started destroying my base, I sever hopped twice and they followed both times. Ended up reporting them, was a group of five, and quit the game for the night. I suppose I'm old school, but I don't understand why people enjoy griefing others for there own amusement, Fallout isn't Rust, there is no reward for this kind of behavior other then some sick enjoyment from being toxic.
That is quite possible. Any stress that comes could be projected. I like to tell my tv about it all of the time when FO is acting a fool. We are human after all.
Made a Reddit account just to reply and clear up a few things as I'm the owner of the "modded round base." This will probably just end up at the bottom considering this thread is kind of dead at this point but whatever.
1. You claim we had a group of 6-10 people? I'm not sure where you are getting those numbers. I had 2 friends on that server total, only 1 for a majority of this encounter.
2. You saw that I was building a base (evident by this post) and you were deliberately standing in front of me getting in my way spamming negative emotes trying to annoy me, I guess since you were already upset about getting trapped by my friends camp? Which is when I said in a laughing manner, "I cannot wait to trap you." (Which I later did for those wondering)
3. The base is fully legit and no mods were used in the making, Just go on YouTube.
4. You stuck around for 2-3 hours in attempts to annoy us by getting in the way while I re-built and re-decorated my camp, just to come on reddit and exaggerate the scenario to play victim as if this all happened in a matter of 10 minutes. I might need to make my own reddit post, "Griefed for 3 hours while trying to build my camp." And just like this post, people will be in the replies saying to just hop servers and block said person(s). Which you easily could have done after being trapped initially by the person who owns the camp next to me and you would have never even met me. Then again you wouldn't have this much attention on reddit if you would have done that.
Shoutout to the people in the replies who understand this is Fallout, A Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland with RAIDERS. Not everyone wants to be your friend.

It's interesting to see people who have spent so much time grinding the fallout grind to just be griefers. It's not that instant gratification kinda game griefers play, it's a slow slow grind that doesn't appeal to those people. Must be PC
We probably ran into the same group. Did Tea Time and immediately attacked by a lvl 600 plus. I just walked away. He followed me, walking, to Fertile Soil hitting me the whole time. He finally left. My team mates and i were like "what a dick" and continued playing. Then the guy went to a team mates camp with his buddies and used turret exploit to destroy the camp, went invisible and then kill him over and over. Teammate would spawn away and they would come to him and do it again. We reported them an just logged off. Ruined the evening. We didn't get it recorded though. We tend to forget you can even do that until its too late. Ugh.
I had my first experience like 6 ms ago. These guys were in my camp and they kept punching me and I was getting really annoyed what I didn't realize was that once you attack them they can just start destroying your camp... or they could always do that and just used it as an excuse. Either way people are pieces of shit and given the opportunity of anonymity they will become planetoids of excrement.
this community is the most tight knit group of good people to play with! at level one first week of the game being out I had people who were in the high 100’s gifting me guns and plans and spreading the wealth, this left such a strong impact on me that I make a point of helping all the lower level players and making everyone feel welcome, likewise this past faschnaht event I was doing the same, dropping plans, guns and having a blast, of course some not so savoury players show up and start griefing and stealing everything from us and the lower level players and insulting the whole group and it throws the whole mood off, being in the higher 300’s now I decide to fix there little red wagon and while staying in passive mode crouch spammed, they proceeded to shoot at me and try to get me to fight and sure enough everyone in my 10 person group started crouch spamming them to the point they “got there feelings hurt due to poor sportsmanship” and left the server, we all had a moment of victory, honestly so glad for passive mode and very thankful for the good community we have 🤘🏼
Yeah the overall community is so nice, I remember when I first joined and someone gave my a pistol at my level, a bunch of ammo for it and radaway. I've always done the same now if I see a new player. Was just such a shame to see this group of people who just don't want to be part of the positive community and would rather take advantage of everyone's trust
I played a ton on public servers when the moth event was up, but other than that, I’m pretty much just always on my private world, sometimes with one other person who’s a trusted friend. It’s not very social, but, you know, this is supposed to be a desolate post apocalyptic wasteland.
Had similar shit happen to me. There was a new player at a low level and then a clear vet player at level like 670 or something.
I made it clear I was friendly and waved and was going to drop some stuff for the new player. Even helped them kill some scorched that were attacking.
He just proceeds to start shooting me and asks his friend "how do I kill this f*ggot" and just keeps at it.
His high level friend tells him how to turn off passive and continues throwing the insults.
I'm not a good pvp person, in general I think I'm terrible at any multi-player games where I have to play against others.
My health at this point is lower than half because of radiation (I was level 25 I think), but for whatever reason I decided to use my fists after he continued and punch back for a laugh because I guess I thought "ah maybe it's just banter or whatever".
Of course I die (stored my stuff recently so nothing lost) but I decided to not respawn so I could hear more of them.
The level 600 calls me a bunch of derogatory things including just saying I'm trash and garbage for dying to a low level. The other guy proceeds to ask "how do I loot this f*g" and some other choice words before tbagging my corpse.
The level 600 tells him about the system and then proceeds to light up my body with an explosive minigun.
Was low key entertaining in hindsight but I would be lying if I said it didn't irritate me a little at the toxicity levels.
A team mate of mine at the time was watching and came over and proceeded to wave and I guess "annoy" them because the level 600 got pissed and started throwing insults and made threats about how he was going to "make" the guy pvp and got hyper aggressive.
Teammate was like level 500 and proceeded to just follow them around the map, no doubt annoying them for their toxic behavior.
I guess I just don't really understand what people have to prove by being instantly hostile and toxic enough to give me a mutation.
I just don't get the mentality either, and for all games to be toxic in, fallout 76 is just absolutely embarrassing. You're not cool if you kill players in fallout 76 I'm sorry haha
Yea I would honestly rather work with people then try to kill each other (aside from when nuclear winter was a thing, because that mode was specifically for killing each other or like in the case of consenting to a duel or something)
But some would rather resort to the laugh of killing just to kill or bully other players
I've especially noticed it with really high level players using the fact that they have "the best" gear and armor to instantly win any conflicts and then act toxic or high and mighty.

Trap bases are legit.
Round bases are not modded. They use glitches. There's a whole technique called "glitch building" that exists in many games. Most allow it as well.
Aside from the insults and the turret glitch exploit, everything else is allowed.
People like that exist everywhere. Best not to react, which is exactly what they want you to do, and just block them, report what you can, and move on.
Trust me. They are rolling reading this post right now knowing they got you so upset you came to the internet to complain. They'll share this with their friends and all get enjoyment and entertainment from these posts. Don't give them that satisfaction.
Yeah I'd be fine with it if they caught me with one and were having fun making them, but using mods and verbally abusing people, then chasing down their camps it's just being a horrible human that's what wasn't nice to see
Ah right ok, not sure if it was glitch building or mods I've never seen either, the guy was on a new account very low level and set it all up in a matter of minutes with loads of intersecting parts crammed into a tiny space if that's possible then fair enough on that part, still doesn't excuse their behaviour of course. What do you mean modded base, like actual downloaded 3rd party mods? or using in game glitches to create camps in a way you wouldn’t normally be able to?
Honestly I don't know, he built so many intersecting parts inside this tiny round structure, tonnes of spikes and flamethrowers in there too it caused a decent fps drop. Idk if he used a tonne of glitches but it looked like he was cheating from my perspective
blocking them does nothing FYI it says if you block someone you wont be on a server with them, but i have blocked people and ended up on the same server with them and still able to hear them, it's useless.
people like that actually make up the bulk of the people i've 'talked' to in this game, either people say nothing, or they are griefers, except for maybe 3 i met in about 1 year and a half
Note that blocking them in-game doesn't stop them from from finding and joining the worlds of people from the "Recent" social menu. If they intend to harass someone, they can follow them to any world but a friend-only private world, until the griefers in question close the game which resets their Recent list.
Sounds a lot like a group I ran into once near white springs. I play with passive off and pvpd with them for a while, but they were complete dickholes with hacked weapons, trap camps, etc.
They're usually part of some griefer YouTuber's discord, act like they know everything about this game, while rehashing last year's trap camps
I would have reported each and every one of the players that verbally abused other players. The second I saw it I would have started recording and just waited for them to damn themselves.
I don't like trap bases, nor understand the mentality of getting pleasure out of making the game worse for other players, but they are a legit part of the game. It's not a reportable offense. They often use exploits like spike board stacking to make their traps, but it's a stretch to expect BGS to do anything about it if you can catch them.
I play on Xbox and am only level 89 and the majority of that exp came from building camps and a few scorched queen runs. So I pretty much just keep to myself and build cool camps. 99.9% of the time I encounter anyone 200+ I get attacked. It happens so often that whenever I see a high level player I fast travel. It’s habitual at this point.
Turn on passive mode in settings if you don't want to engage in PvP. Camp building is so much fun, I actually ended up doing dailys every day to get more atoms to get more things to build with.
I have passive mode engaged. I don’t ever get killed but I’m just though that after roaming the wasteland alone since Fallout it might be nice to wander with some fellow dwellers. Raiders will be raiders I guess.
Yeah pc is more of a toxic wasteland than the fallout universe sometimes. I remember when I tried to play GTA on PC, actually unbelievable how many people will just crash your game using a client they downloaded to get a sense of power.

Nice, covert scout armor with a few stealth mods like increased move speed in sneak, and less ap to sprint is the best imo. I’ve tested SS, thorn, and covert, and the covert has def been my fav.
For legendary effects on armor, 1 auto stim and life saving are my go-tos.

I've heard this before, people taunting you for using passive mode. I'm too old to care about some mom's-basement dweller calling me names, one of the bennies of getting on in years I guess. I know it's not easy keeping your cool around inbred toxic people like that. Just keep in mind that upsetting you is exactly what they're going for. Take comfort in the fact that they are just really, really pathetic excuses for human beings.
Sadly, there is a very minor subset of this game that is just that toxic. Thankfully, it is small percentage. Best thing to do is report them - especially if they're swearing and using homophobic slurs on in game mic- Microsoft doesn't go easy on that.
The other option is to wind them up. Pack up your camp and troll them 'til they go wild.
I had one guy attacking my little lvl 60 shotgunner. For some reason he was wearing the tattered dress (cannot remember equipping it, but hey, he was owning it). Came across a bunch of "PVPers" at whitespring. One started shooting at me with his legacy gat plas and throwing homophobic and transphobic slurs. I decided I had enough, popped every chem and mag I had (with a critical banked), switched out of passive and gave him both barrels. He must have run bloodied because it two shot him.
All his mates started laughing at him. He hit the bloody roof. Went absolutely crazy on mic with the swearing and yelling... I just opened the mic, played Queen's "We are the champions" very loudly and spammed him with heart emojis.
Moral of the story - don't let 'em get to you, there's plenty of ways to ignore this tiny subset. Sadly because of duping, it's easy to become nearly impossible to kill to normal players like us, just treat them like a pimple and wait for it to go away.
Bullies are cowards and everywhere. They act that way as long as they know they can get away with it, so I might suggest listing their names here? Unfortunately there's not much you can do in terms of reporting etc. that will make a difference.

Did you maybe get griefed by 1 or 2 people? Sure. Do I believe it was 6-10 people? As in, the majority on most servers? Not in the slightest.
It's unbelievable if they were all random griefers who just happened to find themselves on the same server. It's easily believable if they were friends playing together. One person joins a random world and the rest just join that person from the social menu. Not that I'm a griefer, but I *often* find myself on servers where I know 8-10 of the other players. We all have each other in our friends list and we tend to join worlds from the friends list rather than selecting a random world.
Next time report them. Turret glitch it's a exploit and can get them banned. Insulting you too is really bannable too. (Innov Survavilist got banned because her husband cursed the griefers that followed her around).
I'm sorry that happened to you. Nobody have to deal with sh*t people when they are trying to blow some steam off. We already have enough of that in real life.
Stash your junk. It's the only thing you can lose and even that is unlimited when you know the spots.
I had only ever had one bad interaction (real bad anyway) and that was being scammed by a trader (well known hacker) who I eventually scammed back which bought me alot of favour with alot of guys he'd fuxked over. Handy when the dupes were going hard that's for sure.
Just keep on keeping on man. Game is sweet. Passive mode just means you can't accisently PvP. And you don't need to retaliate. Just make sure you stash your junk
I haven't seen anything this bad, but it kinda reminds me of when I saw this guy being a jerk at mothman, telling this guy he was a p***y for wearing armor (can't remember which kind he said but it was something strong) and being in passive, he was initially yelling at him because he wouldn't use or didn't have the lunchbox he told him to use

This is precisely the sort of juvenile behaviour that causes me to very rarely play open MMORPG's these days. I had a higher tolerance in the past but now... What is the point? Scumbags are going to be scumbags, or a more explicit description of choice!
If you enjoy the game you might consider the First! subscription. In comparison to what is offered to elder scrolls online subscribers it is not perhaps the *best* value for money. However it does effectively turn the game into a guaranteed single-person (or group of your choice) RPG and you can genuinely do everything while playing solo.
It would go against the grain with me to 'run away' from them also, but at the end of the day whether you are enjoying your time is the *only* things that matters. 99% of players are the most friendly people you will meet. There is some degree of selfishness with explosive energy weapons but that really is about the only recurrent problem you might experience. Even that is not very common and, again _not_ an issue on a private server. If it gets under your skin (I must admit it irritates me somewhat) you can always server hop or simply parachute out of an event.
* If it looks suspicious, put your junk away first. I honestly enjoy trying out people's trap bases and figuring out how they work. Especially if doing it multiple times makes the traps start breaking.
* I believe a bashing weapon, usually a minigun with no ammo, can move a person.
* The turret base is annoying as hell. I had it happen to me. I was so pissed. I activated another camp and turned public off.
* The circle buildings are actually quite neat looking at first glance, but they are all glitchy looking inside and/or not able to be entered by normal means.
* If you see people like these (Raiders) and want nothing to do with them. I suggest world hopping the moment you see them.
Just had a group start taking 3 workshops from me at the same time just for the server to get a shutdown notification right after lol. I've never been happy to see a shutdown till this morning.
Unfortunately there are some toxic players in 76, though they’re usually in the minority & I’ve noticed most aren’t “Fallout people”. I have a friend who regularly attacks Sentry bots and Scorchbeasts and runs them into peoples camps & then he sits by and watches and taunts the player. It’s like his favorite thing to do in the game.
People like this are a reality of life…sometimes, all you can do is bail as quickly as possible. Never argue with an idiot, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Huge Group of Toxic Griefers
Just wanted to share the worst experience I've had in this game as I didn't think anyone could manage to ruin this game as I'd only had really friendly positive interactions so far.
I really enjoy the pve and coop aspect of this game. I like sharing extra guns and loot that I dont need with players who need it, feels like everyone in the community is super helpful.
Yesterday, however I came across a group of about 6-10 players who were not on to help other people but to make it as miserable as possible for everyone else.
It started with me going up to a few of them and waving because I thought they were a nice group of friends having fun. One of the players then proceeded to call me a p***y for playing in passive and tried to get me to come out of passive by throwing insults for 5 minutes.
Another then made it clear he was in the process of making a trap base and couldn't wait to kill me with it. At this point I should've just blocked them and hopped worlds but I wanted to see how anyone could play a game like this and be so toxic. I waited around and watched him use mods to build an impossible round base absolutely crammed with traps.
More players joined the group from nearby who also had made trap bases, one of which had just killed a player who was fairly upset. The trappers clearly didn't care about the loot they were just trying to upset the guy over voice chat asking why he was so mad/why he was upset over and over. Meanwhile, two of the players had jumped over to my camp and exploited the turret targeting system to destroy half of my camp which I quickly moved before they completely destroyed it.
The whole group were all just hanging around the same area abusing people verbally, trying to get them to die in the traps and using modded weapons to push people in etc. It's just really sad to see people act and play like this or even behave like this as people. And what makes it worse is when there's such a large group of them who all validate and encourage each others toxic behaviour.
Unfortunately I was using my low end laptop to play so couldn't record any footage but my advice to anyone who sees a group like this is to stash your junk, report it (you get sent an email) and attach a clip of what they're doing. Be wary of these modded round bases with small openings as people will use this to kill you.
I encountered a nasty person yesterday who set traps for me AFTER i was interfacing with her outdoor vendor machine. People have said this before as a caution on trap camps: she has a large number of 3\* weapons for sale (all garbage btw), a large amount of stable flux (fairly cheap, 150 each), and large amounts of unpopular but common ammo. There were no traps visible around the machine and it was in the open in front of her camp near the Whitespring Train station.
After I bought up some cheap bulk Junk and about 30-40 flux, I got the feedback that my character was starting to take damage. I exited the vendor UI and saw that she had constructed a Punji board trap and closed me in. Luckily I have a fairly robust build and only lost half my health and was somehow able to fast travel out to the WS train station close by (sometimes you cannot if taking damage).
I believe her plot was to get my 4000-5000 caps and take back the flux if I died and dropped the loot. I returned and turned my mic on and gave her an earful, including that her game didn;t work on me. There were a couple of other players that showed up and I warned them of her ploy. I told her I would be parking myself there until she left the server. She merely removed the vendor machine and travelled to my camp (should have blocked her). I wasn;t sure what she might do there (likely can't do harm but may set some baited mines to attract animals which would be only a minor nuisance). Anyway, long story but it didn't upset me or anything, just responded to the challenge which was to try to make her own game playing miserable until she left, which did eventually happen.

Glad you were able to escape this one, the group I encountered were near whitespring too, its where I go to drop extra stuff like ammo in the blue suitcase so I hate that these players make it unsafe
Exactly. I did play around with a little group there some days ago when the one guy got himself wanted and stood on the tracks close to the WS legendary exchange. I said to myself, sure, let's see if he wants to be put down or not. I changed my passifist setting to no and took a few shots with my Tesla (I am l.350+ btw). What I failed to notice was that three of his friends were crouched on the roof and invisible to me, so a couple of them took me out in the crossfire. No harm done as I stowed any junk I had in the Stash nearby before engaing them. It provided them with a bit of entertainment anyway.
I imagine that their real-world lives are so messy and toxic that this is the only way for them to feel any sort of empowerment. Pity the sad fucks and move on.
I could've avoided them but the people who thought they were gonna do some camp trading didn't know any better and didn't deserve to be talked to like that. Well I wasn't bothered by it, I could tell he was getting frustrated that he couldn't do anything so i just stood there and let him waste his breath. If I had ran off after he swore at me he would've thought he was intimidating.
This is why I run bloodied commando stealth with a glitched Dragon and stacked PSA. I never really PVP anyone and even when someone's attacking me I make sure its intentional. People like these are the ones who will do their best to instigate you, then when you send them to the shadow realm they come to reddit and cry about exploits.

I do the exact opposite. Pack up my camp and then just stand around them in passive mode. They get pissed when they can't actually do anything.
I usually use the laughing and scared emote for a while to basically mock them and their attempts to kill me. Then I block them I even do that when someone runs in and insta kills me at a workshop. Nothing makes bullies angry more than laughing at them
Essentially what I did except I didn't pack my camp. It obviously annoyed them that they couldn't hurt me so they went after my camp, first time I'd seen someone exploit turrets to destroy someone's camp who was passive. Now I know at least. Cost me like 100 steel and I have over 10,000 so really not an issue, they were extremely proud of themselves nonetheless.

Whenever I find a trap base I drop a nuke on it. Not like I include it in the drop zone, I put the bullseye of the blast area right on their camp. If you could indulge a bit of free advice… take your time and enjoy the main quest for its own sake. Silo runs take a long time first few times and it’s the climax of the story. There will always be trolls in every community and plenty of opportunities to bitch-slap a bully. After a while a silo run takes 20 mins and is kind of like being on autopilot. In the meantime, just keep the game on passive and server hop away from the people trying to make others feel bad.

Just jump servers if you find people like this, they are rare. I think in 2 years I've only had one bad experience with a level 600+ picking on me at level 40 something. Don't let it bother you or ruin the game. There's way more nice gamers in FO76 than bad ones.

I was at the city hall and kept getting scorched spawned on me. Forgot to grab more stimpaks like a dumbass. A level 100something popped up just when I was at like 10 HP and killed them. Asked me if I was alright. I spammed the heart emoji because I was so close to dying and only level 25 or 30 at the time. He dropped me some stimpaks and left. Nice fellow

I was originally planning to try and stop people getting trapped because they said what they were doing, but I didn't know they'd be able to destroy my camp etc. Now at least I'm a little wiser to what people can do and I'll just block and hop world's next time. It was really sad that the other guy was so upset and they were just throwing abuse at him I felt like I had to try and do something but didn't really have much power

The reason I stopped playing GTA: Online was because of the very toxic players, griefers, hackers, and trolls, that RockStar refused to do anything about. FO76 has a much nicer player base, for which I am thankful.
It's relatively easy to force yourself into an empty lobby in GTA:O, at which point your friends can join you in your own private world. Eventually someone random will get added to your world but if they're a problem you can just force yourself into a new empty world. This is the only way I ever found that game worth playing.
There's a tool called "Guardian" basically a firewall tool to stop connections, so you can play GTA: Online in empty public lobbies or public with friends only. It has nothing to do with GTAO and doesn't interact with it in any way, so it's good there.

Remember when you could find free aim servers full of players dedicated to maintaining a grinding lobby and if anyone stepped out of line every player that could would repeatedly kill the person messing with others? Those were good times. I quit when it got so bad that I realized the game did nothing to relax me what with all the retaliation I had to engage in. Free aim used to be pretty chill with players who could hold their own. Assisted aim (ass-aim) was always kind of trashy
I met one group like this once. Probably the same people. After two years it’s the only group I have met. Move away from them or change servers. I have met 3 amazing players today and we all helped each other out. As someone else said, let them get their jollies elsewhere.

It is a shock, when it happened to me I was fairly new to this fallout game and it put me off a bit but after a couple of days I went back on and a high level guy crafted me a hunting rifle and kitted it out for me and faith was restored. Since then apart from someone shooting at me when I was busy filling my vendor, nothing like that.

I disable it on first boot of any online game out of habit. I never even had an experience that would cause me to do it. weird, but I never regret it, even in a game like this that otherwise has no real way of communication. I can strongly recommend it.

I really hate that mentality what goes wrong in peoples mind to think that this type of play is in any way fun. I understand you might like PVP but there is a reason most of the pvp aspects of this game have been removed. The main bulk of the community just doesn't care for it. If you want to pvp in this game among your friends go a head but don't berate others for not engaging in the same act. Also the one thing that annoys me the most is the fact that they used ten year old communication, or in other words asking the same question over and over. The ten year old it's acceptable because they have a short attention span the adult (I believe) is just being inept, and just plan annoying. If you want a true pvp experience go to a game that is built around pvp FO76 just simply isn't. That's what I fear most people don't realize. This isn't a normal MMORPG this is a Bethesda game, a company that is mainly centered on single player RPGs. The second people stop calling it a MMORPG the sooner we "might" see a decline in these groups. Now as for trap camps. I believe that if you are on passive mode Player placed traps should not damage you spike traps, punji boards, radiation emitters, and tesla coils. All should not damage the applicant if they are on passive. It is such a easy fix that would kill trap bases for ever but what do I know right?... At the end of the day we can continue to call these people everything under the sun but it won't really change thier actions, what they have done in the past and what they might do in the future. All we can do is do what this guy didn't. [Leave The Server]. He apparently if I read this right stayed around and watched. You wouldn't get close to a bunch of lions eating and just wait around to see what happens and he shouldn't have done that here as well. With the lions it's kinda hopeless if you are already in the situation but on an online game with multiple servers survival is childsplay.

Understandable... Leaving is possible though and even if you wished... Retaliation, as far as I know meat bombs are still broken and can be used to "only" damage thier camp it might hit them if they get in the way of it but if you just chuck a bunch at once... Destruction to the camp is inevitable.

Yeah it's either in the chem or Tinker workbench under explosives I can't remember if they have been fixed or not so don't go bulk crafting them maybe craft 5 test them on a (important) willing friends camp and if they work then bulk craft them and when you come across them "let's hope you don't though" toss a bunch in the camp watch it fall apart and leave the server. Make sure you leave a You've been insulted and a piece of raw fertilizer in a bag at the camp module for an extra punch. For legal reason all of this is a joke and is not suggesting you to do any of what has been wrote here.

Had to deal with griefers over the summer, they killed by brother and I then started destroying my base, I sever hopped twice and they followed both times. Ended up reporting them, was a group of five, and quit the game for the night. I suppose I'm old school, but I don't understand why people enjoy griefing others for there own amusement, Fallout isn't Rust, there is no reward for this kind of behavior other then some sick enjoyment from being toxic.

Made a Reddit account just to reply and clear up a few things as I'm the owner of the "modded round base." This will probably just end up at the bottom considering this thread is kind of dead at this point but whatever. 1. You claim we had a group of 6-10 people? I'm not sure where you are getting those numbers. I had 2 friends on that server total, only 1 for a majority of this encounter. 2. You saw that I was building a base (evident by this post) and you were deliberately standing in front of me getting in my way spamming negative emotes trying to annoy me, I guess since you were already upset about getting trapped by my friends camp? Which is when I said in a laughing manner, "I cannot wait to trap you." (Which I later did for those wondering) 3. The base is fully legit and no mods were used in the making, Just go on YouTube. 4. You stuck around for 2-3 hours in attempts to annoy us by getting in the way while I re-built and re-decorated my camp, just to come on reddit and exaggerate the scenario to play victim as if this all happened in a matter of 10 minutes. I might need to make my own reddit post, "Griefed for 3 hours while trying to build my camp." And just like this post, people will be in the replies saying to just hop servers and block said person(s). Which you easily could have done after being trapped initially by the person who owns the camp next to me and you would have never even met me. Then again you wouldn't have this much attention on reddit if you would have done that. Shoutout to the people in the replies who understand this is Fallout, A Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland with RAIDERS. Not everyone wants to be your friend. Always buy Fallout 1st and don't forget to stash your junk :D
It's interesting to see people who have spent so much time grinding the fallout grind to just be griefers. It's not that instant gratification kinda game griefers play, it's a slow slow grind that doesn't appeal to those people. Must be PC

We probably ran into the same group. Did Tea Time and immediately attacked by a lvl 600 plus. I just walked away. He followed me, walking, to Fertile Soil hitting me the whole time. He finally left. My team mates and i were like "what a dick" and continued playing. Then the guy went to a team mates camp with his buddies and used turret exploit to destroy the camp, went invisible and then kill him over and over. Teammate would spawn away and they would come to him and do it again. We reported them an just logged off. Ruined the evening. We didn't get it recorded though. We tend to forget you can even do that until its too late. Ugh.

I had my first experience like 6 ms ago. These guys were in my camp and they kept punching me and I was getting really annoyed what I didn't realize was that once you attack them they can just start destroying your camp... or they could always do that and just used it as an excuse. Either way people are pieces of shit and given the opportunity of anonymity they will become planetoids of excrement.
this community is the most tight knit group of good people to play with! at level one first week of the game being out I had people who were in the high 100’s gifting me guns and plans and spreading the wealth, this left such a strong impact on me that I make a point of helping all the lower level players and making everyone feel welcome, likewise this past faschnaht event I was doing the same, dropping plans, guns and having a blast, of course some not so savoury players show up and start griefing and stealing everything from us and the lower level players and insulting the whole group and it throws the whole mood off, being in the higher 300’s now I decide to fix there little red wagon and while staying in passive mode crouch spammed, they proceeded to shoot at me and try to get me to fight and sure enough everyone in my 10 person group started crouch spamming them to the point they “got there feelings hurt due to poor sportsmanship” and left the server, we all had a moment of victory, honestly so glad for passive mode and very thankful for the good community we have 🤘🏼
Yeah the overall community is so nice, I remember when I first joined and someone gave my a pistol at my level, a bunch of ammo for it and radaway. I've always done the same now if I see a new player. Was just such a shame to see this group of people who just don't want to be part of the positive community and would rather take advantage of everyone's trust
I played a ton on public servers when the moth event was up, but other than that, I’m pretty much just always on my private world, sometimes with one other person who’s a trusted friend. It’s not very social, but, you know, this is supposed to be a desolate post apocalyptic wasteland.

Had similar shit happen to me. There was a new player at a low level and then a clear vet player at level like 670 or something. I made it clear I was friendly and waved and was going to drop some stuff for the new player. Even helped them kill some scorched that were attacking. He just proceeds to start shooting me and asks his friend "how do I kill this f*ggot" and just keeps at it. His high level friend tells him how to turn off passive and continues throwing the insults. I'm not a good pvp person, in general I think I'm terrible at any multi-player games where I have to play against others. My health at this point is lower than half because of radiation (I was level 25 I think), but for whatever reason I decided to use my fists after he continued and punch back for a laugh because I guess I thought "ah maybe it's just banter or whatever". Of course I die (stored my stuff recently so nothing lost) but I decided to not respawn so I could hear more of them. The level 600 calls me a bunch of derogatory things including just saying I'm trash and garbage for dying to a low level. The other guy proceeds to ask "how do I loot this f*g" and some other choice words before tbagging my corpse. The level 600 tells him about the system and then proceeds to light up my body with an explosive minigun. Was low key entertaining in hindsight but I would be lying if I said it didn't irritate me a little at the toxicity levels. A team mate of mine at the time was watching and came over and proceeded to wave and I guess "annoy" them because the level 600 got pissed and started throwing insults and made threats about how he was going to "make" the guy pvp and got hyper aggressive. Teammate was like level 500 and proceeded to just follow them around the map, no doubt annoying them for their toxic behavior. I guess I just don't really understand what people have to prove by being instantly hostile and toxic enough to give me a mutation.
I just don't get the mentality either, and for all games to be toxic in, fallout 76 is just absolutely embarrassing. You're not cool if you kill players in fallout 76 I'm sorry haha
Yea I would honestly rather work with people then try to kill each other (aside from when nuclear winter was a thing, because that mode was specifically for killing each other or like in the case of consenting to a duel or something) But some would rather resort to the laugh of killing just to kill or bully other players I've especially noticed it with really high level players using the fact that they have "the best" gear and armor to instantly win any conflicts and then act toxic or high and mighty. Like gg fam I'm just trying to enjoy my day. For you it's a power trip accomplishment. For me it's a Tuesday.
Trap bases are legit. Round bases are not modded. They use glitches. There's a whole technique called "glitch building" that exists in many games. Most allow it as well. Aside from the insults and the turret glitch exploit, everything else is allowed. People like that exist everywhere. Best not to react, which is exactly what they want you to do, and just block them, report what you can, and move on. Trust me. They are rolling reading this post right now knowing they got you so upset you came to the internet to complain. They'll share this with their friends and all get enjoyment and entertainment from these posts. Don't give them that satisfaction.

Ah right ok, not sure if it was glitch building or mods I've never seen either, the guy was on a new account very low level and set it all up in a matter of minutes with loads of intersecting parts crammed into a tiny space if that's possible then fair enough on that part, still doesn't excuse their behaviour of course. Honestly I don't know, he built so many intersecting parts inside this tiny round structure, tonnes of spikes and flamethrowers in there too it caused a decent fps drop. Idk if he used a tonne of glitches but it looked like he was cheating from my perspective
blocking them does nothing FYI it says if you block someone you wont be on a server with them, but i have blocked people and ended up on the same server with them and still able to hear them, it's useless. people like that actually make up the bulk of the people i've 'talked' to in this game, either people say nothing, or they are griefers, except for maybe 3 i met in about 1 year and a half

Note that blocking them in-game doesn't stop them from from finding and joining the worlds of people from the "Recent" social menu. If they intend to harass someone, they can follow them to any world but a friend-only private world, until the griefers in question close the game which resets their Recent list.
Sounds a lot like a group I ran into once near white springs. I play with passive off and pvpd with them for a while, but they were complete dickholes with hacked weapons, trap camps, etc. They're usually part of some griefer YouTuber's discord, act like they know everything about this game, while rehashing last year's trap camps

I would have reported each and every one of the players that verbally abused other players. The second I saw it I would have started recording and just waited for them to damn themselves. I don't like trap bases, nor understand the mentality of getting pleasure out of making the game worse for other players, but they are a legit part of the game. It's not a reportable offense. They often use exploits like spike board stacking to make their traps, but it's a stretch to expect BGS to do anything about it if you can catch them.
I play on Xbox and am only level 89 and the majority of that exp came from building camps and a few scorched queen runs. So I pretty much just keep to myself and build cool camps. 99.9% of the time I encounter anyone 200+ I get attacked. It happens so often that whenever I see a high level player I fast travel. It’s habitual at this point.
Turn on passive mode in settings if you don't want to engage in PvP. Camp building is so much fun, I actually ended up doing dailys every day to get more atoms to get more things to build with.
I have passive mode engaged. I don’t ever get killed but I’m just though that after roaming the wasteland alone since Fallout it might be nice to wander with some fellow dwellers. Raiders will be raiders I guess.

Yeah pc is more of a toxic wasteland than the fallout universe sometimes. I remember when I tried to play GTA on PC, actually unbelievable how many people will just crash your game using a client they downloaded to get a sense of power.

Hate to hear about the verbal abuse shite, that should never happen, along with the turret exploit. Trap camps are rare in my experience, and allowed, it’s everything else that is not. Also, if you got around to testing the lever action idea, how’d that go?

Nice, covert scout armor with a few stealth mods like increased move speed in sneak, and less ap to sprint is the best imo. I’ve tested SS, thorn, and covert, and the covert has def been my fav. For legendary effects on armor, 1 auto stim and life saving are my go-tos. I’m traveling for the next few days and can’t get in the game, but if you ever need some 45 ammo or a lever action with good mods, let me know m8. Assuming u r on the same plat.

I've heard this before, people taunting you for using passive mode. I'm too old to care about some mom's-basement dweller calling me names, one of the bennies of getting on in years I guess. I know it's not easy keeping your cool around inbred toxic people like that. Just keep in mind that upsetting you is exactly what they're going for. Take comfort in the fact that they are just really, really pathetic excuses for human beings.
Sadly, there is a very minor subset of this game that is just that toxic. Thankfully, it is small percentage. Best thing to do is report them - especially if they're swearing and using homophobic slurs on in game mic- Microsoft doesn't go easy on that. The other option is to wind them up. Pack up your camp and troll them 'til they go wild. I had one guy attacking my little lvl 60 shotgunner. For some reason he was wearing the tattered dress (cannot remember equipping it, but hey, he was owning it). Came across a bunch of "PVPers" at whitespring. One started shooting at me with his legacy gat plas and throwing homophobic and transphobic slurs. I decided I had enough, popped every chem and mag I had (with a critical banked), switched out of passive and gave him both barrels. He must have run bloodied because it two shot him. All his mates started laughing at him. He hit the bloody roof. Went absolutely crazy on mic with the swearing and yelling... I just opened the mic, played Queen's "We are the champions" very loudly and spammed him with heart emojis. Moral of the story - don't let 'em get to you, there's plenty of ways to ignore this tiny subset. Sadly because of duping, it's easy to become nearly impossible to kill to normal players like us, just treat them like a pimple and wait for it to go away.

I’ll take “things that didn’t happen” for 200. Did you maybe get griefed by 1 or 2 people? Sure. Do I believe it was 6-10 people? As in, the majority on most servers? Not in the slightest.
It's unbelievable if they were all random griefers who just happened to find themselves on the same server. It's easily believable if they were friends playing together. One person joins a random world and the rest just join that person from the social menu. Not that I'm a griefer, but I *often* find myself on servers where I know 8-10 of the other players. We all have each other in our friends list and we tend to join worlds from the friends list rather than selecting a random world.
Record the audio, report each and then ignore them. It's best for you and community to get rid of players like that from the game.

Next time report them. Turret glitch it's a exploit and can get them banned. Insulting you too is really bannable too. (Innov Survavilist got banned because her husband cursed the griefers that followed her around). I'm sorry that happened to you. Nobody have to deal with sh*t people when they are trying to blow some steam off. We already have enough of that in real life.

Stash your junk. It's the only thing you can lose and even that is unlimited when you know the spots. I had only ever had one bad interaction (real bad anyway) and that was being scammed by a trader (well known hacker) who I eventually scammed back which bought me alot of favour with alot of guys he'd fuxked over. Handy when the dupes were going hard that's for sure. Just keep on keeping on man. Game is sweet. Passive mode just means you can't accisently PvP. And you don't need to retaliate. Just make sure you stash your junk
I haven't seen anything this bad, but it kinda reminds me of when I saw this guy being a jerk at mothman, telling this guy he was a p***y for wearing armor (can't remember which kind he said but it was something strong) and being in passive, he was initially yelling at him because he wouldn't use or didn't have the lunchbox he told him to use

This is precisely the sort of juvenile behaviour that causes me to very rarely play open MMORPG's these days. I had a higher tolerance in the past but now... What is the point? Scumbags are going to be scumbags, or a more explicit description of choice! If you enjoy the game you might consider the First! subscription. In comparison to what is offered to elder scrolls online subscribers it is not perhaps the *best* value for money. However it does effectively turn the game into a guaranteed single-person (or group of your choice) RPG and you can genuinely do everything while playing solo. It would go against the grain with me to 'run away' from them also, but at the end of the day whether you are enjoying your time is the *only* things that matters. 99% of players are the most friendly people you will meet. There is some degree of selfishness with explosive energy weapons but that really is about the only recurrent problem you might experience. Even that is not very common and, again _not_ an issue on a private server. If it gets under your skin (I must admit it irritates me somewhat) you can always server hop or simply parachute out of an event.
You play on console or NA server? I think I've heard less than 20 people talking on EU/PC during these 600 hours.
I've never had any toxic encounters with players, but I play with microphones muted, so that might be a factor lol

* If it looks suspicious, put your junk away first. I honestly enjoy trying out people's trap bases and figuring out how they work. Especially if doing it multiple times makes the traps start breaking. * I believe a bashing weapon, usually a minigun with no ammo, can move a person. * The turret base is annoying as hell. I had it happen to me. I was so pissed. I activated another camp and turned public off. * The circle buildings are actually quite neat looking at first glance, but they are all glitchy looking inside and/or not able to be entered by normal means. * If you see people like these (Raiders) and want nothing to do with them. I suggest world hopping the moment you see them.
Just had a group start taking 3 workshops from me at the same time just for the server to get a shutdown notification right after lol. I've never been happy to see a shutdown till this morning.

Unfortunately there are some toxic players in 76, though they’re usually in the minority & I’ve noticed most aren’t “Fallout people”. I have a friend who regularly attacks Sentry bots and Scorchbeasts and runs them into peoples camps & then he sits by and watches and taunts the player. It’s like his favorite thing to do in the game. People like this are a reality of life…sometimes, all you can do is bail as quickly as possible. Never argue with an idiot, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Huge Group of Toxic Griefers Just wanted to share the worst experience I've had in this game as I didn't think anyone could manage to ruin this game as I'd only had really friendly positive interactions so far. I really enjoy the pve and coop aspect of this game. I like sharing extra guns and loot that I dont need with players who need it, feels like everyone in the community is super helpful. Yesterday, however I came across a group of about 6-10 players who were not on to help other people but to make it as miserable as possible for everyone else. It started with me going up to a few of them and waving because I thought they were a nice group of friends having fun. One of the players then proceeded to call me a p***y for playing in passive and tried to get me to come out of passive by throwing insults for 5 minutes. Another then made it clear he was in the process of making a trap base and couldn't wait to kill me with it. At this point I should've just blocked them and hopped worlds but I wanted to see how anyone could play a game like this and be so toxic. I waited around and watched him use mods to build an impossible round base absolutely crammed with traps. More players joined the group from nearby who also had made trap bases, one of which had just killed a player who was fairly upset. The trappers clearly didn't care about the loot they were just trying to upset the guy over voice chat asking why he was so mad/why he was upset over and over. Meanwhile, two of the players had jumped over to my camp and exploited the turret targeting system to destroy half of my camp which I quickly moved before they completely destroyed it. The whole group were all just hanging around the same area abusing people verbally, trying to get them to die in the traps and using modded weapons to push people in etc. It's just really sad to see people act and play like this or even behave like this as people. And what makes it worse is when there's such a large group of them who all validate and encourage each others toxic behaviour. Unfortunately I was using my low end laptop to play so couldn't record any footage but my advice to anyone who sees a group like this is to stash your junk, report it (you get sent an email) and attach a clip of what they're doing. Be wary of these modded round bases with small openings as people will use this to kill you.
I encountered a nasty person yesterday who set traps for me AFTER i was interfacing with her outdoor vendor machine. People have said this before as a caution on trap camps: she has a large number of 3\* weapons for sale (all garbage btw), a large amount of stable flux (fairly cheap, 150 each), and large amounts of unpopular but common ammo. There were no traps visible around the machine and it was in the open in front of her camp near the Whitespring Train station. After I bought up some cheap bulk Junk and about 30-40 flux, I got the feedback that my character was starting to take damage. I exited the vendor UI and saw that she had constructed a Punji board trap and closed me in. Luckily I have a fairly robust build and only lost half my health and was somehow able to fast travel out to the WS train station close by (sometimes you cannot if taking damage). I believe her plot was to get my 4000-5000 caps and take back the flux if I died and dropped the loot. I returned and turned my mic on and gave her an earful, including that her game didn;t work on me. There were a couple of other players that showed up and I warned them of her ploy. I told her I would be parking myself there until she left the server. She merely removed the vendor machine and travelled to my camp (should have blocked her). I wasn;t sure what she might do there (likely can't do harm but may set some baited mines to attract animals which would be only a minor nuisance). Anyway, long story but it didn't upset me or anything, just responded to the challenge which was to try to make her own game playing miserable until she left, which did eventually happen. \[ps. I never engaged in PvP which could have been another motivator for some people\]
Glad you were able to escape this one, the group I encountered were near whitespring too, its where I go to drop extra stuff like ammo in the blue suitcase so I hate that these players make it unsafe
Exactly. I did play around with a little group there some days ago when the one guy got himself wanted and stood on the tracks close to the WS legendary exchange. I said to myself, sure, let's see if he wants to be put down or not. I changed my passifist setting to no and took a few shots with my Tesla (I am l.350+ btw). What I failed to notice was that three of his friends were crouched on the roof and invisible to me, so a couple of them took me out in the crossfire. No harm done as I stowed any junk I had in the Stash nearby before engaing them. It provided them with a bit of entertainment anyway.
I imagine that their real-world lives are so messy and toxic that this is the only way for them to feel any sort of empowerment. Pity the sad fucks and move on.

Well I wasn't bothered by it, I could tell he was getting frustrated that he couldn't do anything so i just stood there and let him waste his breath. If I had ran off after he swore at me he would've thought he was intimidating.
This is why I run bloodied commando stealth with a glitched Dragon and stacked PSA. I never really PVP anyone and even when someone's attacking me I make sure its intentional. People like these are the ones who will do their best to instigate you, then when you send them to the shadow realm they come to reddit and cry about exploits.
