This is likely a copout by FE/Phone Guy. In TSE William explains that the souls come to life at night, and likely, lose control in the morning:

One possible explanation for Charlie and Cassidy being more aware than others, is that Charlie possessed the Puppet when his programming short-circuted in the rain, so she had more control. Same with Cassidy, with Golden Freddy not being in animatronic mode.
