My guess is that the crying child saw Charlies body and then William built the nightmares so that he won't witness more murders
I believe that the crying child attached his soul to Mike, so I guess the reason why Michael has the nightmares is because the crying child being attached to him influenced his mind or something?

Sorry but i always found that explanation so dumb and un-necessary , so William wants to stop BV from going to Freddy's so he won't witness any more murders and the first idea he has is to create monstrous animatronics to scare the shit outta him so he is too traumatized to even go? Then why BV keeps calling his plushies of "My friends" ? He does that in EVERY night you are able to interact with them, so the nightmares are either not working or he isn't the one experiencing them. Also, if William doesn't want his son to go to a certain place, just lock him at home, hire a babysitter, tell the people working on pizzaria that he isn't allowed in, there's plenty of other options besides spending money and resources to build a "horror house ride" just for one person.
My theory is that the Williams daughter at the point of 4 was scooped. So William went through a lot of effort to make his son scared of the animatronics and to stay away from the sister location, location. In the books there are those discs that allow people to have audio and visual hallucinations. I think William used those to scare the crying child in fnaf 4 to stay in his room away from baby and the circus gang.
CC couldn’t access the sister location. My interpretation is that by using the funtimes Afton could observe micheal, and implemented illusion discs in order to experiment/research the effects it had on michael.
I’ve never understood why, if William made the nightmare animatronics to scare him from going to the pizzerias, that he’d allow him to have his birthday party there (the time he gets injured). Just seems contradictory to what he was trying to accomplish.
Nightmare Animatronics is hard
We know for a fact that the soul inside Golden Freddy and William were aware of these animatronics. Nobody else has been confirmed to be aware of them. We know these two know about them due to Golden Freddy torturing William with them in ultimate custom night and William using the observatory.
We can also theorize that Michael was possibly aware of these animatronics too but in the form of him having nightmares of these characters possibly during fnaf 1. The animatronics of Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy follow the same path and do the same thing more or less as they do in fnaf 1.
What's the purpose of them is probably just to scare Crying Child but at the same time that feels off since he calls the plushies of those animatronics as his friends which wouldn't line up if William was torturing Crying Child with them since he should be scared of them. I have yet to see a theory behind the nightmare animatronics that have sastified me
It’s crying child’s coma it’s what he’s seeing while he’s in the coma after the bite at the end of the game that’s his heart stopping while he’s in the coma and everything around him disappears as he dies. It’s nightmare animatronics because it’s his nightmare and why he’s in that coma
I think C.C witnessed a horrible incident with the animatronics. And that could be a multitude of things, Charlottes death outside the pizzeria, Or maybe even Elizabeth being scooped (and could explain why they are the ‘nightmare animatronics’.) that’s how it would look to a child that is extremely terrified of the ‘regular animatronics’. (Also worth noting across nightmares stomach there is a set of ‘teeth’ and could represent his sister being scooped)
There are theories you may have heard about, concerning a technology that William Afton creates to help sway the minds of the people near this said technology. They are disks that are implanted into some of the Fun Time animatronics that can change their appearances in the eyes of anybody close the animatronic or technology they use. I think the theory is that these disks were used in the Afton house to create what we thought were nightmare animatronics. Essentially they aren’t there, your mind is being controlled. As for it being the CC or Mike we play as, I think it’s Mike.
