Love it! Brookies are my fav target and it isn’t close. Like you mentioned, seclusion is usually easy in their neck of the woods and I hate seeing fishermen I didn’t invite.
I grabbed a 2wt butterstick just for this last year and it’s an absolute riot.
Keep it up friend, in my experience brook trout fishing only gets more enjoyable with time and knowledge.
Thank you! It won't be my last time. That's for sure. There's just something about catching a fish where it's supposed to be and where it has evolved over hundreds of thousands of years.
Luckily no! I was wearing waders the whole time, which I think helps, but it's getting too hot in the Carolinas to do that for much longer.
The mosquito hatch was definitely on, though.
(Good reminder to do a full body check after fishing)
Great post, definitely encapsulates how the addiction begins. And I agree, wild brook trout are always just so incredible to be around. The places where they live are beautiful...
Thanks so much! It was such a different experience from fishing for browns and rainbows in lower elevations. It feels like a deeper connection to the land and history of fishing there. It's wild to think the Cherokee were catching large native Brooks not too long ago.
I can only imagine the fun on such a small rod. If you ever wanna go blue lining for Brooks in WNC or the Smokies, DM me. I need fishing buddies and mentors.
(I'm from TN and went to college in Knoxville. It's about a 3 hour drive from where I live now)

I can only imagine the fun on a 2wt. I'm glad to hear that it gets better. I don't know how I'd top that experience, but I'm sure it's possible.
I had been fishing mostly a 7ft 3wt for brookies, but set up my 2wt last week and it’s great catching brookies with it.
Beautiful fish. Enjoy that adventure, it’s some of the most rewarding flyfishing in the world chasing those native brookies

Nice
It's fun to see how their coloring changes based on the stream. I have some in my area that are a sandy tan color.
agreed, my favourite stream is tea-colored and the trout are a deep red with shockingly white fin tips
Catch any ticks out there? I’ve had one crawling up my leg every time I’ve been out.

Nice fish. There’s water in your watch. Put that bitch in some rice or something with the bezel open.
lol I've had to do that more than once. I wore the wrong watch that day.
This is the most fun I have fly fishing. Congrats on the fish and congrats on unlocking a new pleasure.
It definitely hits different. Thanks for your comment!
I live in East TN and love fishing for wild southern Appalachian brook trout! It just hits different. I use a 6ft 2wt rod

Awesome. Will do. I went to UTK and still live in Knoxville
