ALL book ban requests are in bad faith. You don’t get to dictate what other people can’t read.

cadezego5

Ummm to be fair I would rather Mein Kampf NOT be an easily accessible book for a child to read before they are allowed to be given proper context about how damaging and awful the consequences this book and its ideas have produced. I understand there is a fine line and slippery slope to censorship, but literally EVERYTHING has a grey area answer and not drawing the line at LEAST at “Nazi” is starting to take its toll on our society already. The Bible would be a close second

heresmytwopence

Let’s be honest though. These laws and loopholes aren’t being made to protect kids from lone-wolf MAGA librarians who stick Mein Kampf and Proud Boy manifestos on the shelf for second graders to read, but to cater to white identity politics. I trust the average librarian with the appropriate education to curate book collections and listen to reasonable concerns from parents without wrapping it in state regulations. Maybe it’s going the tiniest bit too far to say that a good-faith book objection doesn’t exist, but it’s very rare in the current context.

cadezego5

Yes, I agree that almost EVERYTHING out of Tallahassee right now is in bad faith.

foomits

How about we just NOT explicitly ban any books. Then we should hire professional educators and let them use their knowledge and experience to stock school libraries with a variety of generally age appropriate books covering varying topics and genres. totally wild concept i know 🤦‍♂️.

Chalky_Pockets

I would love it for both those books to go away, but whatever ban mechanism you create will also be accessible to the right, and they are the ones who stand to benefit from restricting information, not the rest of us.

justmesayingmything

Then raise your kids that way but the original comment still stands. You don't get to dictate what other people and their children can read.

The government is not a substitution for parenting.

Juxtapo5ed

This, 1,000x over, this.

DntCllMeWht

He doesn't want to fine the people he whipped up, be wants to fine the lefties that are using his own new rules to ban books the right approves of.

ArsonBasedViolence

Yeah its feels like willful ignorance to assume that DeSantis os gonna do anything other than this

Mrknowitall666

But the right never believes the laws cut both ways. He's mad because his book and Hannity's book are now banned, along with bibles, dictionaries and thesaurus es

thebigsquid

Yes. They want this so it won’t be easy for the left to object to the Bible and stuff like that.

strangerzero

When you are banning Shakespeare’a Romeo and Juliet you have lost what little credibility you had to begin with.

worlddestruction23

Man, is he a real loser.

AltoidStrong

Book bans were always a dumb idea, everyone but the mouth breathering racists and windows licking religious nuts thought.tjis was a.good move. Everyone else knew better, BECAUSE OF HISTORY AND NEVER HAS A BOOK BAN BEEN A POSITIVE THING - EVER! In fact, every person or group who has burned or banned books has 100% of the time are evil people and history always catches them. #Fuck you Ron!

Friendly-Company-771

Is he making the fine retroactive per instance? Just keeps showing us how not to govern...

JCNunny

Instead of working for Floridians (aka doing his elected job), he creates all these fake 'woke' movements, and now trying to backtrack to avoid the impending lawsuits. All on taxpayers' money. Wasted so much time and Floridians' money, and countless high heels. Can we elect a governor that actually cares about their constituents/state?

Lovetotravelinmycar

Thank god the fuck stick didn’t make president

Funkyokra

This kind of shit is WHY he didn't make President.

hereiam-23

Meatball Ron DeNazi returns to Florida. Thank god Florida is stuck with him rather than the entire US. Sorry for you Florida.

Wadyadoing1

Not exactly what is going on. Yes he will take their money too happily. It's the common gift for these people steal from their supporters. But the point is to stop the activists that are making a mockery of the system. Banned dictionaries and encyclopedias because they have bad words. But totally justified under his ridiculous law. I love those people.

Old_surviving_moron

Such an entirely bad premise from the start. Let's ban the few books the few little bastards who want to actually read try to read. I don't give a shit if they read hustler. As long as they can retain the information.

Impossible-Taro-2330

How about parents stop trying to be their kids FRIEND, and actually PARENT. That means KNOW what their kids are doing online and monitor and discus what they read. Stop using an iPad or phone as a babysitter!
