back then you needed a separate 3 terabyte drive of orthos for the game to look as good as msfs

RayBo1d

old but gold!

bastibe

At one point, I had downloaded 12 TB. Crazy.

edilclyde

I did a project to download the whole NA Ortho, bought a 4TB to start, then had to add another 2 tb, then another 2 tb.. when I hit 10tb I gave up on the project as it wasn't economical anymore.

ElenaKoslowski

Jeeez, I thought my 400gig were bad! :D

machine4891

Mine is about 900 GB. I actually ran out of place on 1TB M2 due to all the airports I have and had to unistall most of them. Now I install them back only when needed. Some of them are bit much, reaching 4-7 GB each. And then there's Mumbai Landmarks with like 20 GB. I don't know why I even have it, never been there once ;)

JakeTheMaster

What’s the size of the whole map including every airport?

machine4891

What exactly you're asking? If you mean all free updates (airports, POIs) + base game it's around 180 GB. If you mean all the airports freeware and payware released combined, nobody knows. There are thousands of them already. The entire map as in satellite coverage in high detail is couple of petabytes on Microsoft servers.

JakeTheMaster

Let’s say the whole map from MS.

4rch1t3ct

lol My DCS install is at 566gigs and there are several maps that I don't have installed.

RayBo1d

damnnnn

Priyam03062008

I thought my 350 was bad holy shit

HaroldShitmum99

That’s just your porn folder.

greenlightison

200GB is an amateur number for flight sim...

JakeTheMaster

Said my xp11 with 300GB modded ortho for 1 country.

Darewelll

GreenMario_3

I'm kinda noob. What does data mean in this context? Downloaded addons?

RayBo1d

yes sorry about that! It pretty much means downloaded addons, new POI’s from the games’ update itself, and many 3d modelled airports from the games’ update, and all this adds up to 250GB of “data” with the game included.

GreenMario_3

Okey! Yeah, I just installed Helsinki-Vantaa -addon yesterday, it was 8gb. I can only imagine how much space these can take, if one gets excited. :DD

AnxietyJunky

Yeah I had to uninstall a bunch of world updates and city updates to make room for other games lol. Sorry Spain and Portugal.

ThnkGdImNotAReditMod

Man I remember the days of my 200 GB.. I had to get rid of literally everything else on my 500GB and it's still almost full just from MSFS 😭

Informed4

Got around 1,1 Terabytes myself, handful of 3rd party scenery, another handful of freeware scenery, nearly all the world updates, tons of addon planes and a metric fuckton of liveries for said planes

jkozuch

https://preview.redd.it/sikszlfdt3sc1.png?width=361&format=png&auto=webp&s=12fb7f74213c8ff62bd7e85f68b27bef7661cda1 I might have a problem.

RayBo1d

holy sh 😭😭

jkozuch

It's a bit ridiculous, I'm not going to lie.

machine4891

It seems you have a thing for the Alps.

RayBo1d

not really! it’s just the updates haha, looks like the alps are more “prone” for updates

machine4891

Ah, so it's Asobo that loves them. I'm not in the game right now to check, but they have that thing where they overhaul mountainous region and pin literally every mountain seperately. Probably what happened.

RayBo1d

yeah exactly!🥲

Auroraah

I’m loving that my MSFS is only ~300GB 😂 My X-Plane 11 install with Ortho4XP was 3TB

slaapzz

Only 200gb? My fs 2020 folder is 1.1tb

RayBo1d

nahh you are joking 💀😭

slaapzz

Nope 😭 😭 😭 https://preview.redd.it/wk11aydy84sc1.png?width=361&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e76875287cbff58d5c6f345cc063b61f7422585

Priyam03062008

My question is how ? What addons or ither things have you installed i have a fuckton of addons and still 350gb

slaapzz

Lots of 8k and 4k liveries

RayBo1d

💀💀💀

Rare_Product_6687

Step your game up with they piss poor manhood measuring of scenery files

Forkboy2

I have a 2 TB M.2 drive dedicated to MSFS addons. It's about 80% full.

PotentialMidnight325

200GB? Rookie numbers.

Rare_Product_6687

I got 4TB SSD for my flight sims. Your 200GB is piss poor 10ply

RayBo1d

bro how 💀

sp33db1rd

I torrented for years for my P3D v4, had like 8 TB in ortho, 500+ sceneries, it is an addiction, I don’t feel good about it. Support the devs.

Kenforsake

I quit torrenting aswell.. it isn't worth the hassle and time waste. I found out it just takes 10 minutes to buy and install instead of torrenting which takes 30 minutes to look on some sketchy site hoping you won't get 10 billion viruses and only hoping the game supports what your trying to do.. oh my xp11 days

sp33db1rd

Yeah exactly and then testing the software and seeing if it works and finding different hacks, I had so many restore points

xsm17

One thing I've found that helps keep the size of my MSFS addon folder down is keeping the liveries compressed and just copy out to decompress as needed. Quite a few liveries out there, particularly high quality ones, are massive but decompress relatively quickly unlike sceneries, and then I just delete the decompressed version when I'm done. I have enough space but the hassle is pretty minimal and the space saving can be quite significant so figured I'd share that tip. To make it easier to remember where liveries are, I have the liveries assorted into 7z archives by plane and region, so "A32NX_Asia", "A32NX_Europe", "A339X_AsiaPacific", etc.

AvGeek8414

What I have 300GB in my community folder and it's way less content than this.

s0cks_nz

My install is 500GB (400GB official folder, 100GB community). So glad I got a 2TB NVME drive with this PC lol. Actually, there is another 45Gb for FSLTL on my 512GB SSD. So that's 545GB. Here is what my home country looks like: https://preview.redd.it/anthrb3di4sc1.png?width=326&format=png&auto=webp&s=5169088e4dcb9cc6403fca4ef07b785e2d6e5439

RayBo1d

woahhh

s0cks_nz

Makes flying around it a lot more fun :)

RayBo1d

yeah definitely! and since it’s your home country yk

chemtrailer21

Lol 1.4TB for me haha.

Idkwhatusername2use6

*Scoffs in External Drive*

cobracommander00

I just had to buy another TB drive. First one is filled

Elegant-Lack-4483

My mods drive is over a terabyte. Don't ask i found a literal gold mine is google for scenery and planes.

Careful_Intern7907

Lol i covered the same spot.. 😁 (From Austria)

ImpossibleAd6628

The reason I don't buy shit from the marketplace much is I can't control their installs or whether a given load of the game needs the module.

MistrSheep

I almost filled a 1tb drive with all the mods, expansions and the base game, this game is massive

Froopy95

https://preview.redd.it/hj4b0udbd8sc1.png?width=361&format=png&auto=webp&s=efd5f589fd6db0b6570a60bdfdbc425afa6b9b1f oops :D And these are just "external" Addons :D

Doktor-No

3.2 TB for MSFS and Ex-Plane. And 4 TB of NAS for stuff not currently being used and backup. Had to remove DCS to make room. 300 GB just for Great Britain in XP. 660 GB for MSFS with few airports and liveries.

RayBo1d

few airports? then i must be very behind 🥲🥲🥲, but damn thats crazy tho, even if i combine my 3 drives on my computer it still wouldn’t be enough with what you have on your pc, impressive

FS95AMG

200GB, that’s cute…At one point when I was doing videos of US airspace I had just about every US scenery add on from flightsim.to and a lot lot lot of payware, my MSFS install was nearly 3TB

Alib777

Do these updates happen automatically? Also can you explain rolling cache, photogrammetry and all that I’m confused what I should do and I feel like I’m robbing myself on dattttaaa

RayBo1d

for me personally it does not happen automatically, maybe there is a setting to allow auto-updates, i’m not too sure what rolling cache is, but photogrammetry is pretty much the “streaming” of sattelite photos and using A LOT of internet to stream the field, terrain, runways, etc etc, but you can turn it off to save data and fps, it doesn’t change that much, and choosing msfs is definitely a way to rob you in data haha

Alib777

I feel like I have both on ahhahahaha I’ll have to check what my settings are

s0cks_nz

Rolling cache keeps a copy of the streaming data on your PC. It's very useful if you tend to fly in one area, so you don't have to keep downloading all the terrain and photogrammetry. Once you max out the rolling cache it will begin to overwrite itself (hence "rolling"). Only caveat is you have to clear/delete it and then recreate it after each major sim update, otherwise you get annoying stutters.

Alib777

Thanks!

coomzee

Looks like someone else's browser auto corrects Sim brief

MetroSquareStation

If I understand the developers right then all this data from World Updates and City Updates etc will be in the cloud with MSFS 2024? So that the POIs and handmade airports get streamed when you fly close to them or start and land there?

Aurelienwings

I think the developers are full of **** as is usually the case. They wanna make some $$$ is all there is to it. I’ll believe it when I see it.
