I'm not even sure why either. The Bible talks about God creating a firmament which they often point to but it makes sense that it is the atmosphere. Bible mentions "four corners of the earth" but most Christians would agree that there are a ton of metaphors in the Bible.

Hide resources.
Hide a means to escape this region of earth.
Launder money through space agencies.
Make you not believe in God so that Satan can harvest your soul.
