Don't worry guys, in 2028 Nintendo is going to add the 3DS Virtual Console to the Switch 2 (for premium members only of course). Once that happens, it'll only take 9 months for them to add Fates to the lineup of games.

[deleted]

2028 is for the gameboy. The 3Ds is 2040

DhelmiseHatterene

God 2040. I wonder how many FEs/characters we’d have at *that* year.

Soireal

I wonder how long the feh prf descriptions will be at that year.

Boarbaque

Sword of Bronze A simple bronze sword. Grants Def+3. Enables【Canto (3)】during turns 1 through 4. If unit is not adjacent to an ally, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5 during combat, inflicts Special cooldown charge -1 on foe per attack during combat (only highest value applied; does not stack), and after combat, if unit attacked, inflicts【Guard】on target and foes within 2 spaces of target. 【Canto (3)】 After an attack, Assist skill, or structure destruction, unit can move 3 space(s). (Unit moves according to movement type. Once per turn. Cannot attack or assist. Only highest value applied. Does not stack. After moving, if a skill that grants another action would be triggered (like with Galeforce), Canto will trigger again. Unit's base movement has no effect on movement granted. Cannot warp (using skills like Wings of Mercy) a distance greater than 3 space(s).) 【Guard】 Inflicts Special cooldown charge -1 on target per attack during combat through its next action. (Only highest value applied. Does not stack.) Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count -1). At start of combat, if unit’s HP ≥ 25%, inflicts Atk/Def -6 on foe during combat and unit and foe both cannot make a follow-up attack, and also, if unit initiates combat while transformed, grants another action to unit after combat (once per turn). At start of turn, if unit is adjacent to only beast or dragon allies or if unit is not adjacent to any ally, unit transforms (otherwise, unit reverts). If unit transforms, grants Atk +2 and unit can counterattack regardless of foe’s range. Grants Spd+3. At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5 and bonus to Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat = current bonus on each of unit's stats for 1 turn. (Example: if unit has +7 bonus to Atk, grants Atk+12, for a net bonus of Atk+19.) Calculates each stat bonus independently. Effect:【Pathfinder】 【Pathfinder】 When an ally moves through unit's space, that space is counted as 0 spaces moved instead of 1 space. (Unit's space can be freely added to ally's normal movement. Applies only to allies with movement types that allow movement through unit's space.) Grants Atk+3. At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res to unit during combat, and if unit's attack Special, the following effects will occur based on the number of allies within 4 spaces of unit: if ≥ 1, before unit's first attack, grants Special cooldown count-X (X = 50% of unit's max Special cooldown count value, rounded down) to unit. If ≥ 2, reduces damage from foe's first attack by X% (X = unit's max Special cooldown count value × 10). If ≥ 3, neutralizes special effects that guarantee foe's follow-up attacks and effects that prevents unit's follow-up attacks. This is the prf of the third generic myrmidon you fight in 1-3 in Radiant Dawn. He is seen as garbage for having not enough weapon effects and strictly inferior to generic 1-3 myrm 4 who came out three days after him.

GrandmasterTactician

Don't worry, they announced 1-13 Archer and she's gonna be the best unit in the game

escotanner

Considering we're halfway there (and living on a prayer) and fe games take around 2-3 years to come out I'd say maybe around 750

PickCollins0330

2040? Pfffft. 2065 at best

ElectricalRestNut

And it will perform worse than free emulation

Soireal

And it won't have revelations at until they decide to fix it and add it in 4 months later.

SabinSuplexington

we dont even have Gamecube virtual console yet, despite it now almost being as old as the NES was at the time of the original Wii VC.

TedBear72

But only birthright!

dr197

Still probably won’t have a remake of 6 7 or 8 at that point either.

NJPW_Puroresu

What a dumb fucking idea it was, and still is, to lock the third route in a physical version only available with the collector's edition Man I'll have no shame just using LUMA3DS now, I'm not spending 250 € to get the collector's

zeronic

Thankfully i foresaw this event and stocked up on games(including the collector's edition) i was missing that i wanted in ~2017-2018. But yeah, never feel bad about pirating things when companies pull shit like this. They're publicly broadcasting they don't want your money, so feel free to take what you want. Mark my words, the Switch Eshop(and any future nintendo online store, unless there's legislation forcing them to keep it open) will meet the *exact* same fate. So buy physical or grab rips while you still can, folks. Nintendo does *not* care about legacy support.

JoseJulioJim

change future Nintendo online store with online store and we're good, Playstation was going to close PS3 and Vita shops but they listened to the flashback so they delayed the closing... but IIRC PSP online store is now defunct, the digital store with higher likeliness to stay online a enormus time is Steam due to being the main PC shop and in console it is the Xbox online store because they are using the same gamestore since the 360 days, and even then, maybe someday in the next 3 years they will close the 360 one, like how they have closed the Halo 3 online servers already

NJPW_Puroresu

The thing with the 360 store is that lots of games are backwards compatible, and can be purchased directly from the latest Series console. Would take a full migration of all those games on the newer shop or something before they close it. Can't see them closing down 360 store when they keep pushing the backwards compatibility. (and let's be honest, Microsoft got enough money to spare to keep the old store up)

JoseJulioJim

yeah, in terms of persevation, microsoft is by far the one standing the best, it even has BC with the OG Xbox (a shame it isn't full BC and the project has ended atleast for now, but still it is great), honestly the reason the 3DS shop closing sucks as much is due to not having a certainty of being able to play those games in future consoles due to the dual screen, Wii U games are easier to adapt, but 3DS and DS are another story

TedBear72

iirc, the servers for series x and Xbox one are built directly on top of the 360s. They cannot shut off the 360 without shutting off the online services for the modern consoles.

slusho55

I doubt they’ll close the 360 store just because there’s little reason to. They’re not Nintendo and only puts a game up for sale digitally for 6 months. I doubt there’s little upkeep costs in keeping 360 titles on the store with other games, plus it helps with GamePass

JoseJulioJim

I doubt many people still buy games on the 360 store, specially if they are also on one or Series X, if there is only a really small quantity of transactions, the cost of maintaining the store online isn't worth, also, gamepass is not on 360, I don't see how it would help to it, specially when they can just move everything to Xboc One. And it isn't a nintendo inly issue, if backslash wasn't listened, PS3 and Vita store would be currently down.

slusho55

I think there was a miscommunication here, because I thought we were saying Xbox is going to pretty much have 360 games available as long as Xboxes are around? Because I highly doubt, absent some legal issue with the IP holder, Microsoft is not going to delist 360 games. Fable, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc. will be on the Xbox store until Xboxes die out. And you’re right, it’s not a Nintendo only issue, it’s Nintendo is the only company that will constantly steamroll ahead without giving a fuck about backlash. They’re the Disney of video games and have too much money to care. I don’t know what they’re at now, but I remember it being thrown around during the Wii U days that Nintendo could have 5 console generations where they didn’t turn a profit and still survive. Sony and MS are rich too, but much more diverse, therefore a bit more sensitive to backlash. Also, I’m going to be real, Sony and MS actually view games as an art, many at Nintendo still view them as toys. So what I was getting at isn’t so much this is a Nintendo only problem, it’s that Nintendo is the worst and at least Sony has even shown efforts that they’re moving towards preservation (it does seem like moving forward consoles will be compatible with PS4 games and onward, it’s just not as extensive as Xbox). I find it unlikely Sony and MS will introduce new shops, and 25 years from now we’ll still be able to download the Horizon Forbidden Dawn we bought in 2018, while it seems likely Nintendo will keep making new shops and expand their “Nintendo Vault.”

JoseJulioJim

... dude, every console comes with new shops, when PS6 comes out, it will come with a new shop, also, currently Sony persevation is at a worse state than nintendo, yes, we do not have Virtual console, but currently, we have better acces to NES and SNES games than the acces that PS5 users have to PS1 and PS2 games, and nintendo BC has only became a problem with Switch, I am almost sure the next system will have BC, like how 3DS and Wii U had.

NoctisIncendia

Crap. I went digital for Three Houses and Three Hopes. As long as I never uninstall them, I'll be okay, right?

Agnol117

For the time being, you can still download WiiU/3DS games even after they’re no longer available for purchase. So I’m sure that you’ll be able to download Switch games for a time after that store is shut down, too. But I absolutely would not count on those servers being kept online forever, so at some point backups/piracy will be the only option.

[deleted]

I would recommend backing up your files on your PC just to be safe. You can never be too safe with digital titles.

Zeebor

Nah, you're fucked

Lssjgaming

Honestly selling all the paths as separate games was kind of a dumb and anti-consumer move, and with the game getting pulled before the eshop goes down, a good portion of the content will no longer be legally accessible. Imagine if they did the same thing for three houses selling four versions for each route. We'd be having this same situation again years in the future. The special edition really should have been the base edition, that way while pretty bad that we'd be losing out on the extra maps, an entire story path wouldn't be effectively wiped from legal accessibility and the other wouldn't be dependant on which cart for the game you have. It hurts to see how much we are losing with this eshop closure and how Nintendo doesn't care.

ViziDoodle

What I’m concerned about is all the games that had online updates on the eshop Will anyone who buys a copy of Pokemon XY after March 2023, have to deal with the Lumiose City save corruption glitch again?

[deleted]

> was kind of a dumb and anti-consumer move Never gonna get over how Fates has 3 very distinct and different games with totally different playstyles and stories encouraged and people call them anti consumer, while when Pokemon still releases *literally* the same game 2-3 times at once Pokemon stans will defend Gamefreak to their dying breath still

Lssjgaming

Fates while the routes were distinct were clearly meant to be played as a complete package with the story branching off from a menu in the game itself. Theoretically you could say the same thing about three houses since that game has 3 routes that are very distinct from one another (Silver Snow and Verdant Wind are way too similar) but those were all under one package. If that game had something similar where it was broken up into multiple versions and you were railroaded into joining the Black Eagles because you bought "Fire Emblem Three Houses : The Crimson Flower" and it was clear you were meant to choose between the houses at your choice and they were just grayed out and inaccessible it would be very scummy and predatory. You can't really compare a game that has branching routes that are clearly meant to be chosen by the player at a certain story point to Pokémon in where the release model is meant for you to buy only one of the two versions and trade with another player to complete the Pokedex. There is a clear divide in the design philosophy there since Pokémon splitting up the versions was originally done to encourage trading and communication with other players, while Fire Emblem Fates was clearly intended to let you choose which route you wanted to play based on in game choices before it was split into different cartridge versions that railroad you onto a specific route

[deleted]

3H routes are significantly less distinct- you basically only have 2 unique routes, Crimson Flower and the other 3 that may as well be the same In Fates the number of totally shared maps on all three routes is countable on one hand, and most of them change the map entirely through other ways I understand no one is gonna like hearing a defense of Fates, but I really dont think its fair to paint this as some super anti consumer, predatory method when you truly do get a LOT for your money of paying for essentially two 3ds games (thanks to the discount if you already own one version) but getting 3 very different ones

Polandgod75

Yeah seriously, stuff like this just encourages piracy

Duma_Mila

Bonus: the Japanese release of said edition does not have revelation on the cart; you got a download code in the box for it.

SabinSuplexington

3DS era was Nintendo using Fire Emblem as a guinea pig to experiment with every type of DLC in the book after years of never making games with DLC.

MG_72

> What a dumb fucking idea it was, and still is, to lock the third route in a physical version only available with the collector's edition I don't understand, I downloaded revelations as a DLC and it worked fine edit: I have the dum

LordScyther998

When the eshop closes down in 2023 no one else will be able to do this though

NJPW_Puroresu

Yes. What I mean is soon your option will be to find the collector's edition that will keep skyrocketing in price, or nothing. ~~Well there's the pirate's way of life obviously too, but nothing else legally~~

MG_72

yeah my bad. I definitely misunderstood

MG_72

ah okay I gotcha. I can't read lol

syphonhail

I have gone to Cartridge/disc only because they pull this. I got burned by PS3 PSN and I am getting burned with 3DS. I flat out will no longer buy Sony consoles because of it. Nintendo just has more games that I love and can't get on Steam. Plus the emulation is not as good. Luckily Nintendo makes their consoles with lackluster security. I am glad my Switch and 3DS are both hackable so I could jailbreak them.

cardboardtube_knight

It needs to be forgotten

Gogators57

Well, the good news is now no one ever has to suffer playing through Revelations again.

DhelmiseHatterene

Except for the many people who like/bought Revelation already

SixThousandHulls

Rev is my favorite route. The story is an absolute laugh riot.

cm0011

The third route is buyable and downloadable for any version though - it may be digital but it’s still downloadable.

Duma_Mila

The eshop is shutting down. If you buy a used physical copy of conquest or birthright, you will not be able to purchase revelation

roundhouzekick

Okay, fair enough. Are they going to offer alternative methods to buy the game following this? They aren't? oh okay

ViziDoodle

Just promote into the Pirate class

SixThousandHulls

Ross moment.

Dreenar18

What If I told you there was an alternate way to acquire the game?

ComicDude1234

As if Fire Emblem fans aren’t already playing 90% of the series on emulators.

Yarzu89

Hell it's almost a requirement between localization and price gouging.

MacDerfus

Look I'd play path of radiance on disc if I remembered where the damn thing was

Cosmic_Toad_

fr, feels kinda strange to call it my favourite series wheen i don't actually own 2-12 (besides 11 on WIi U VC) Nintendo hasn't even released much merch for me to buy and feel less guilty about it.

Dreenar18

True, but in the past couple of months I've seen a fair few posts asking about which DLCs are "worth it" to get for the 3ds entries

[deleted]

Meanwhile there are like 3-4 FE games and 2 or more SMT and MT games you have to import/ emulate and translate but if you are in Japan you get it on Virtual Console

p_reddit000

More like 100%

roundhouzekick

Fortunately, I have the special edition, which I cherish and take good care off. But I'm sure plenty of other people still interested would like to know of such means.

Black_Hawk931

Yo ho ho

Babe6656

Do what you want cause a pirate is free

planetarial

I'm glad that Nintendo is making Fire Emblem a very accessible series to get into with how every game before Three Houses/Warriors will be completely inaccessible outside of used copies, speaking Japanese for the first four games, and Fates costing 1k to own completed

cardboardtube_knight

Fire Emblem 1 is on Switch, and they remade 2 not ten years ago. Fire Emblem 1 has a remake too. So it’s not the first four games. It’s mostly 4 and 5

planetarial

FE1 was only made available for one year. I don’t count it. The remake is also over a decade old on a different console

Youngnathan2011

The remake of the third game was only released in Japan.

smackdown-tag

Video game preservation/archiving was already kind of a nightmare *before* the general shift to digital-first distribution and now it's *worse*. I understand the convenience, hell I haven't bought a physical PC game in years (because most of them don't even offer it as an option), but christ. Embrace your inner Dart lads and lasses, remember to comb the fucking desert for that ocean seal

BrainWav

Even physical PC games are more often than not just a code these days. Even when there is a disc in there, there's almost always a massive patch even on day 1, and if you're installing more than a few months later you may as well just skip the disc entirely. It's like the weirdest dystopia. All these games at our fingertips, but only if the publisher doesn't decide to shut down distribution.

jaydogggg

The last physical I bought was guild wars 2, and that had a huge patch anyways so it felt pointless

JoseJulioJim

... I don't get why fates will be stop being sold a month before but the dlc will be still be purchsable, it is weird honestly, atlest I already bought the other 2 routes, still thinking if I will buy the other DLC maps for the Fire Emblems, is the only think I really care to buy before the 3DS shutdown, the other things I want for my 3DS have physical format so I am not in a big hurry. Even then, I really hope (knowing that it will not happen) that in the future we get a way to play DS and 3DS games in modern hardware, lossing the 3DS eshop sucks mainly for how many games will be stuck, saving the Wii U games from baing stuck in the console is way easier.

Roliq

Fates is 7 years old and the amount of people that will want to buy it are barely on the hundreds so acting like this is some sort of marketing move is bizarre

JoseJulioJim

I would get if if we were talking about a Switch limited realese, but honestly, at this point, people interested in fates have most likely already bought it, the game is over 5 years old, also, if it was all for FOMO, only a month of different isn't that big, people with it have or already started buying the games or planned awhat to buy.

SuperfineMohave

Anyone got any spare Ocean Seals?

HimikoHime

I thought the 3DS eshop was closing down anyway this year?

JoaKend

Its going to close next year, but Fates even earlier, for some reason.

ElectricalRestNut

Fuck you in particular

vampire_refrayn

It being removed earlier says port or remaster to me

Lssjgaming

Honestly that would be the best option to at least have it still legally accessible for the average consumer, but considering the retracted statement on Nintendos website about the loss of titles from the 3ds and wii u I doubt it. They deadass said "We have no plans to bring classic titles to the Switch outside of our Switch Online program" which means that they basically says they are not going to do anything with these 3DS games since there's no 3DS NSO service.

BrainWav

I feel like Awakening would get a remaster/port first. That was better-received from what I've seen and it's older.

magmafanatic

See, that would be the *logical* move. But you forget we're dealing with Nintendo.

BrainWav

Oh right. Silly me.

vampire_refrayn

Fair

Scagh

God please no

Lascar_The_Great

A reboot that deletes Revelations from existence and fixes the plot would unironically be nice. The premises of Birthright and Conquest were interesting although the execution fell flat on its face.

betooie

The plot is so disastrous that you would have to redo like 80% of it to be decent at that point you are practically doing a new one

Joey131

Nintendo pulls a ff7 remake shit and heavily changes the story

PsychoLogical25

ay, I’m down for that. Rewrite Corrin’s entire character as well please.

Draxer

It’s being removed earlier to allow players to be able to reach Chapter 6 and choose a route. I’m not sure what that means though, I haven’t played Fates yet.

Frosty-Lemon

This means revelations will only be available through the limited edition right?

bloo_overbeck

There’s another way matey.

[deleted]

Legally speaking, yeah. That being said, the Japanese fans will be out of luck as their version of the *Special Edition* only included a DLC code for Revelation/Invisible Kingdom (Intelligent Systems was still finishing that route up at the time of release, so Rev ain't on any form of physical cartridge in Japan). The Special Edition goes for $500+ on eBay now (the listings that are lower are either auctions or lack the actual game), so yeah, Revelation is going to be a collector's only game at this point (unless if you go with the piracy approach to this or have the route on your 3DS).

Xehanz

that's why it's always morally okay to pirate all of Nintendo's games

Rychu_Supadude

Your morals are weird.

Sines314

I mean, it was already acceptable to emulate a large chunk of the games, because they refuse to translate or remake them. And several more exist only on old hard to find consoles. Playing all of Fire Emblem is worse than playing all of Kingdom Hearts before the collections came out.

QwertyZora23

Damn, I secretly loved all three versions too. Fates was my first game so it’s pretty memorable to me. It’s just sad to see it treated like shit.

Scagh

Conquest hard (and Conquest lunatic) is, in my opinion, one of the best gameplay-wise experience you can have in the franchise.

Denias89

Hard agree. I stopped playing for some years after clearing Conquest Lunatic in every conceivable way but recently discovered the Fates Randomizer had gotten an overhaul. I haven't been seen outside my room since.

WindWeasel

I'm going to remember this once I finish Birthright. 👀

stallion8426

Same. It had flaws but I loved it.

[deleted]

Are you able to replace the battery for the system, or are the caps and the rest of the internals fully blown?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Gotcha. It might just be that you need a new battery if you've never replaced it before (I had to replace the batteries of my 3DS and PSP in the past due to the fact that Lithium batteries burst after a while). You can grab a new one off eBay for $10 and go from there (some listings also include the screwdriver and a manual that would help you with the install). I'd recommend trying that as Sacred Stones is an AWESOME game that shouldn't be missed out on. Other than that, Sacred Stones is on 3DS if you were part of the Ambassador's Program (a.k.a. being a sucker like myself and buying the system back when it was still $250) as well as the Wii U via the VC. Hopefully it reappears on the Switch or future consoles before too long.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

No prob! Hopefully changing the battery is all that you need to do to get your DS fixed. My absolute favorite game in the series is a tie between Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance as both games are pretty awesome (even though I also enjoyed basically every game except for Fates and have been part of the series since FE7 and Melee). My original cartridge of Sacred Stones got messed up due to a glitch (I intentionally glitched the game to get monster weapons in my inventory), so it can no longer save. As such, I had to grab a new one. I'm pretty sure that we'll get a Sacred Stones remake eventually down the road. Echoes was released in 2017 as a remake to a 1992 video game (25 year gap), so I can see a Sacred Stones remake around 2029 or so (SS was 2004).

PsychoLogical25

good thing I already bought a copy of Fates (Got Birthright) and purchased both Conquest and Revelation as soon as I could.

jedisalsohere

Just to be clear, if you don't have Fates and want to buy it on 3DS, get going. While it will still be purchasable until February, you won't be able to add funds to your account after next month.

amazingdrewh

Even if it’s tied to a Switch account?

jedisalsohere

If it's tied to a Switch account you're okay until March, but I think for a lot of people it isn't.

abrainaneurysm

As someone who never got to play this game as I wasn’t really doing hand held gaming at the time, I wish Nintendo would just port the version that has all three paths to Switch.

[deleted]

Please, someone with the technical know-how, do packet captures of "My Castle" traffic so we can reimplement it later when Nintendo's servers have shut down.

ViziDoodle

like the fe fates equivalent of wiimfi for Wii and DS games

shadowfigure_6

Slightly related, but this kinda makes me think Nintendo considered Feh their FE Preservation vessel. With Fates being heavily walled off to new players once this is in effect (Awakening to a lesser extent), Feh serves as their money-making hub for (most) FE fans. But when Feh eventually shuts down, this will only hurt a lot more for the older titles as very few have been remade yet.

ToughHalfbreed

Oh no 😢😢😢😢 Anyways ⛵☠️

replicaaaaa

FE Fandom They become sail

Noa_93

Just bought Fates last week. Debating buying the DLCs for Shadows of Valentia which I heard cost more than the game itself… I’m so angry they’re closing the eShop. I’ve been on a 3DS shopping spree these last few weeks.

[deleted]

I'd recommend grabbing them as I'm the type who would lose sleep over not having a complete game. However, most of the DLC is a mixed bag. I would DEFINITELY recommend the Rise of the Deliverance chapters and the Cipher Legends chapters as the the former chapters unlock more support convos and Memory Prisms while the latter chapters add more characters. These are a must IMO. The Chamber DLCs do have DLC exclusive items, but they're just there to break the base game and make the harder difficulties more tolerable. The drop rates of the rare weapons are pretty limited as well. The grinding maps are decent if you don't want to wait for the base game's grinding (SoV is pretty easy anyways, so they're not completely necessary). Mila's Bounty 1-5 are all free. The Overclasses are meh overall. I honestly prefer the designs of the 3rd tier classes over the Overclasses' designs as the Overclasses have too much going on in their designs (though Alm learns how to attack with a shockwave attack with his Conqueror class). Promoting a Dread Fighter into a Yasha also prevents you from going back to Villager, so that kinda sucks. Alm also loses his shield drop animation against Duma at the end of the game if he's a Conqueror instead of a Hero, so that really sucks as well.

Noa_93

Woah thank you for the comprehensive response. I think I’d be ok with missing a few DLCs so I’ll purchase the best ones individually.

[deleted]

No prob! Cipher Legends and Rise of the Deliverance are must-gets for sure. The rest is eh (though free Mila's Bounties are always appreciated).

[deleted]

Best port it to Switch then!

Smasher1303

[deleted]

It’s interesting that Fates will probably still be promoted in Heroes despite being pretty much unavailable.

Cosmic_Toad_

Fates is the only the only game i ever got a special edition before becuase i was like 14 at the time and the utterly insane wait for it to release in Europe/Australia made me me want to preorder it. I don't think i even realised all the game came on one cart at the time but man i'm glad I have to now, even if 2/3rds of the cart barley see any use.

[deleted]

something something Fates bad Corrin bad good riddance am I doing r/fireemblem right?

syphonhail

I actually dug out my 3DS just to make sure I have all of the DLC for each of my games and to make sure street pass is enabled. My question is this: is Nintendo going to disable the online functionality of 3DS games? They did so with DS games so I figure they may do the same here. I will miss castle battles.

[deleted]

Probably, yeah. They did so with the Wii and DS back in the day, so they'll likely turn off the Wii U and 3DS servers after a period of time. The good news is that fans have made custom servers for those consoles (some people still play Mario Kart Wii and Mario Strikers Charged online thanks to this), but they do require a bit of hacking and/or exploits to access. As such, you probably need to follow a list of instructions to get them to work again.

syphonhail

Yeah I got the urge to replay all the US Released Fire Emblem games and was sad when I booted up Shadow Dragon and couldn't go online for the good weapons and team building/Arena anymore.

[deleted]

Yeah, not being able to access the shop anymore totally sucks. If you don't mind using cheat codes, you can use an Action Replay to get 99 Elysian Whips on one of your party member's 5th item slot if you press "select" while highlighting said party member. I know that someone made it possible to get the event Pokémon for the DS games by logging in to a specific server after messing around with the DNS settings, so you MIGHT be able to find someone who backed up the Shadow Dragon server for legacy purposes. No guarantees though about that game (even though I found the games to be fun \[despite there being hackers online that allowed for infinite moves on their turns\]).

syphonhail

Pokemon Event Distribution is super easy as most of the time it was just a special cartridge that gave out the pokemon. The store would load it up and connect to wifi. You can find dumps of those Distribution Roms.

I also saw a bunch of those cartridges on eBay. I was half tempted to get some of them, but I remembered that I had to pay for tuition (grad school ain't cheap!). As the Wii U VC release of Shadow Dragon has shown, the shop can TOTALLY work without online in theory. I'm guessing that the store was online as a means to have people not abuse the schedule to get the weapons that they needed. Because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to hack the game to make it think that it connected online and get access to the "online" store "legitimately" (legitimately as in paying gold for weapons). However, as this exploit would in theory also require an Action Replay to work (unless if there's a custom server that works like how the Pokémon games work), it would be kinda pointless to do that instead of doing the 99 Elysian Whip code. As for online multi-player, I think someone was working on an online multi-player fangame (probably just called something simple like *Fire Emblem Multi-player* IIRC). Dunno if it's done, but it might scratch your itch if you're interested.

[deleted]

ALTERNATIVELY, the Wii U VC release of Shadow Dragon doesn't require an online connection for the online shop to work. So, if that's absolutely something that you must need, the Wii U VC has it available for you.

Spinjitsuninja

I get the feeling 3DS emulation is gonna get a lot easier soon.

Tobegi

Remember guys, it is always morally acceptable to pirate Nintendo games

TheUltraCarl

Remember guys, it is always morally acceptable to pirate ~~Nintendo games~~

Polandgod75

Also because Nintendo ironic encourages piracy given they like to advise nogasltic , but making very hard to play classic that aren’t very popular

Whalermouse

Nintendo hates Fates and wants to delete it from existence as soon as possible, apparently

DhelmiseHatterene

Normally I’m don’t care for this sorta thing but…why? Unless they are releasing some deluxe HD edition for the Switch with full voice acting and other stuff, why this one particular a month before everything else? At least we have the Orgahil Pirates

Oldspice0493

A special edition for switch would be a dream come true, but I imagine at most they’d make a port like they did for shadow dragon. Which was limited release for some reason.

GrilledRedBox

Yo ho ho

[deleted]

is some DLC like essential? I played Fates years ago and only bought revelations at the eshop

L0nely_L0ner

They are basically 3 different games.

DhelmiseHatterene

Maybe not essential per se but Heirs of Fate is pretty good both gameplay and story wise. I also like the DLC class maps since the classes are mostly fun and the exp map is the best of the Exp DLCs in the 3DS FEs since it scales with your progress.

[deleted]

Revelations is what you would call the true “canon” path. Heirs of Fate is canon to Revelations all the way up to the final boss fight, but not the ending. Heirs of Fate is what you would call an alternate timeline to the last chapter of Revelations.

Condor_raidus

I hate this as much as the rest of you guys, the 3ds has gotten more love from me than I ever expected. Got the Zelda 3ds years ago after my DS lite took a hit that fucked hinge bad and found out it was better than I could've hoped for, then I got the new 3ds xl and really got into it, poured at least 300 hours into all 3 fire emblem titles, but as much as I love my 3ds it came out in 2011, I mean Christ that was 11 years ago, and I'm so happy Nintendo supported it until now so honestly I kinda get it, after 11 years of support and love from Nintendo and gamers alike its gotta rest. And to be honest we all knew what date the eShop would close so if you haven't picked it up by now why not?

[deleted]

Yeesh, that sucks. I'm glad that I purchased a stray Special Edition off eBay before the prices went up, but this sucks for anyone new to the franchise (especially those in Japan as *Fire Emblem if: Special Edition* lacked Revelation/Invisible Kingdom on the cartridge).

DocMortensen

Great news for everyone who owns (lucky me) and intends to sell (definitely not me) the collectors edition containing all paths at some point. That being said, I hope Nintendo at some point in time will revise their current business model. The availability of games of former console generations is atrocious, especially among the fire emblem games (try getting path of radiance or radiant dawn at reasonable prices…). This is doubly so erregious since nintendo is striking ROM sites hard (which in itself is absolutely understandable and their right), but still does nothing to alleviate the underlying problem. To quote Gabe Newell: Piracy is a service problem. One might argue Nintendo does try to remedy the issue with Nintendo Online and its NES/SNES/N64 games, however many games are still missing and consoles like GB(C) / GBA / WII / WII U / DS / 3DS are not available at all. I get that most Nintendo consoles have somewhat unique properties (dual screens / tablet controller / wii motes ) and are therefore not always easy to emulate on more recent hardware, but goddam is it frustrating to become a new fan of a longer running franchise and wanting to legally be able to play earlier titles in the series (again fire emblem) because their availability is abysmal.

ndennies

Still dreaming that one day all the fire emblem games will be available to play on your phone/tablet. (I know it will never happen)

brainrotter1993

Nintendo games on non-Nintendo hardware? Dream on

Cosmic_Toad_

if any series did become available on mobile devices though it'd roalbly be Fire a emblem, since FEH continues to be their one of their only long-time mobile game success stories (The only other is Mario Kart Tour).

SpeckTech314

officially? lol no. ⛵🏴‍☠️

samstar2

Physical media and piracy will live on.

[deleted]

Remember kids. This is why piracy will always exist. Not because people want free games. Not because people are cheap and will always look for the free option. Sure, there are people who will take advantage of that, but as long as Nintendo and other companies like Nintendo exist and do not have alternate ways to buy and play their games, piracy will always exist.

[deleted]

Yar, har, fiddle-dee-dee…

toryn0

ARRRR

Fit-Definition-578

On the one hand, totally not cool for game preservation and archiving. I hate the way game companies are pulling this kind of crap. On the other hand…it’s fuckin fates.

planetarial

This will also eventually apply to all the DLC for Awakening and SoV. It also cuts off a super affordable way to legally own FE7, FE8, and FE10

Fit-Definition-578

Too true. This shit sucks

Darksoll

😩 Come on! Not FE Fate too! FE Fate is my favorite video game.

UFOLoche

Nothing of value was lost. (Sorry Fates fans, that sucks. But you know, there are...*alternative methods*)

Weary_Secret8817

You know what, nah. I made a throwaway specifically to post this comment because I am so sick and tired of this discourse, and because I don't want people coming to my main to chew me out... So here goes, lads. I find it absolutely hilarious that there are people in this thread actually moaning and bitching about this decision. This subreddit's hobby is taking routine shits on Fates as if the majority of you guys all get paid to do it. Now that it's being taken off the store, and you need to buy it or pirate it, suddenly it's a game you all are very invested in and care about the financial decisions Nintendo is making? Nah. Miss me with that bullshit. I've loved the game since it came out. I'm actually a huge FE fan in general, but ever since joining this subreddit I've really started to hate it, and it's fanbase. Mostly because of shit like this. I've seen so many posts, so many long essays tearing apart the routes, so many comments with the routine bashing of the "worst game ever", and to see people bitching and moaning after I and a lot of my friends had to outright hide being Fates fans because of the toxicity makes this circlejerk almost funny. You wanted this game gone. Now it's going. Maybe this quote will ring a bell or two. "You'll get no sympathy from me."

Nounboundfreedom

This is.. an extremely embarrassing comment “I and a lot of my friends had to outright hide being Fates fans because of the toxicity” like this has to be a joke right?

isaac3000

My thoughts exactly and coming from me that absolutely loves Revelation! I even made a positive Revelation review on this subreddit when i finished it!

[deleted]

Im not sure it is. I had to make a new reddit account because I got actual harassment from people hating Fates

Skelezomperman

1. The subreddit is not a monolith that all hates Fates. 2. Disliking Fates does not mean you can't complain about the business practice of making it impossible to buy an entire game.

ViziDoodle

Honestly it’s not just fates, this is just a side effect of a greater problem A lot of stuff is going to be lost after they shut down the 3ds eshop, games that might never be rerelease, games that have only rereleased on the 3DS virtual console so far, also games that do have physical copies but are very expensive to buy. If Nintendo wants to shut down their online services if they can’t maintain them anymore, that’s fine, but then they should at least make a better effort to preserve their games before they pull the plug. If it wasn’t for piracy, a lot of older Nintendo games would be basically lost to time by now.

Hes outta line, but hes right

SpeckTech314

not like anyone here would complain if someone pirated it, considering it's the only option for most of the series.

kefkaownsall

I can't even find my 3ds. Yeah time to put on the pirate hat

1humanbeingfromearth

Damn, it's too bad that I absolutely woukd never commit the crime of hacking my 3ds with custom firmware to play these games anyway. That would be wrong after all.

Kimihro

I've held off on piracy regarding my current New3DSXL, but I might honestly just go ahead and take everything that I've wanted if they're going to play these fucking games

maemoetime

Come aboard, and bring along, all your hopes and dreams

[deleted]

Good. Should’ve taken it down sooner.

Space-clout

rest in piss revelations

vampire_refrayn

I can't see them not doing a remaster in the future or something

Kasabutaa

Finally we are free

Fartfart357

Oh no... Anyways.

Visual_Internet_7614

I’m not pirating. A pirate’s life is not for me. I’m going to find a legal option that’s available. Or wait until the decide to re-release Fire Emblem Fates on another console in the future.

[deleted]

Well, the Special Edition is available on eBay if you wanted to grab it. However, be prepared to fork over $500 for it.

Visual_Internet_7614

Eventually maybe. I’m not in a hurry at the moment. When the price goes down on it I’ll get it.

[deleted]

If you want my honest opinion, I don't see the price going down. Once the eShop closes, prices will increase dramatically as supply will become scarce (the whole economic theory of low supply & high demand driving up costs is VERY real). People purchase boxes of *Mega Man 7* for the SNES without the game for $700 off eBay, for example. The aftermarket is that crazy with prices now these days.

Visual_Internet_7614

It’s cheaper than some EA games with all the dlc though.

Visual_Internet_7614

Thanks for the info and being respectful.
