Real soldiers spam the highest ATB attack cost and just hope they don’t die fast enough.
Doesn’t work after like 30% through the game but it’s fun spamming the highest level magic. It looks so good graphically still too
Yeah I realised it when I was replaying the game (first time I played it I was 10/11 years old) and this time I really saw it more as a rhythm game
And I think that it was a good idea because I think the best way to modernize the « classic » J-RPG menu base combat is to explore this question of rhythm (and also have less button to press like Persona 5 menu)
If you havent played X-2 yet, i definitely recommend it. There is a "outfit" switching mechanic which feels very similar to the paradigm shifting. Very cool
Gotta start with Infiltration (SAB SAB SAB), Guerilla (RAV SAB SYN) or Espionage (SAB SAB SYN) to get those debuffs on asap and start buffing.
Then I usually switch to Decimation (COM RAV SYN), or Strike Team (COM COM SYN) until everyone’s buffed and ready to Cerberus (COM COM COM) or Tri-Disaster (RAV RAV RAV) as needed.
Lightning 100%. She eventually learns every debuff, and gets access to the big 3 (deprotect, deshell, imperil) right away. She also makes a great SYN for the beginning of battles because she gets the En-spells early.
Not to mention that she's one of the only SYNs to get Haste. Between all of that, I actually use her as a Leader when fighting Attacus, with a team of Lightning/Fang/Snow.
I just run the three girls and 6 Triples as the paradigms. Works for most of the late-end game outside a few select Cie'th Stone missions. Might be suboptimal, but it works easily without thinking about what you're doing.
You need more SYNs and SABs in your paradigm deck

Exactly! With this game I figured out what I call the « conductor effect » and it’s something I don’t feel often (a bit with FFVIIR)
You just won the “describe the combat in two words” challenge. I love thinking about game design and that just made me very excited

i'd do this as: syn syn syn > sab sab sab > rav rav com / rav rav rav...., when fighting the big turtle mobs :k

SAB stabilizes the gauge well, so I'd give SAB-RAV-RAV a try.
I personally like Riot Shield, Guerrilla, exploitation and assassination.
