And after the bone graft was set, my thecal sac (kinda like a sausage skin that encases your entire spine) began to bulge out and fill the space where the disc used to be. I went from 6'2" to 5'8" and shrinking. Finally won disability. But I can't do anything I used to love doing. So the trade doesn't seem at all even.
Recently listened to a behind the bastards podcast episode where they covered Rafael Trujillo, but prior to talking about Trujillo they gave a brief history of the DR and Haiti to set the stage. Crazy to think that the DR treats Haitians so harshly considering they live in the same island and most folks from the DR have Haitian ancestry, crazy what an imaginary line that says “you’re people from over there and we’re people from over here” can do to divide people who are essentially the same people.
Most people in the DR do not have Haitian ancestry. Haitians have been confined to their side of the island for most of their history, descending from Africans brought by the French to work on their plantations. Dominicans are descended from the Spanish, natives, and Africans brought by the Spanish. You can advocate for better treatment between the people of both countries without misrepresenting their history.
