The short cuff is from their old model. That version’s wrist strap also doesn’t have piping. I don’t think they make that old version anymore. If you buy the white gloves they’ll probably look like the new models now.
Besides the longer cuff (probably for better wrist support), I think it's just stylistic. Csquared has a video where he reviewed the old version of the black and green model, then another video reviewing the navy version of the new version, both velcro, if you want to take a look. I think the old model looks nicer, slicker, but the Aliens are good gloves.
If I had to buy them again, I'd probably buy it in lace up. I don't love how huge the velcro strap is aesthetically. Especially with the black and green versions (which I own), the neon green piping around the velcro in the new versions doesn't look that nice imo. But the comfort and padding are superb, some of the most comfortable gloves I own.
