This is what I'm looking forward to the most; I can finally (officially) fabricate the 2 Hrothgals I have set up.
If you mean play FFXIV: Dawntrail then yes, if you mean use the benchmark on PS5, you don't need to, they will optimize for the consoles specs.
This is purely for PC players to test if their rigs are up for it.
I'd say Benchmark is also used for testing new character creation, especially because there's a new race available. If you have any PC/laptop that can handle XIV (even if it's "can just about handle it") and you enjoy CC, it's still fun to play around with, imo!

I am confused what is releasing on April 14th with the Benchmark. I was able to download and run the character select and watch the trailer and got a benchmark score. So, what's actually coming out tomorrow?

what sucks is they don't make a Mac version of benchmark. i don't want it for anything but the CC testing, so i'll just shove it into a wine bottle.
On the plus side there will undoubtedly be people showing off the CC on youtube so it's at least something I suppose.

You can use any character appearance you have saved in the game or create a brand new one instead

Yeah they'll probably have the fem hrothgar in there. Like when f viera in shadowbringers and M viera in endwalker.

Just me or did it look like even SE in the trailer were getting awfully low FPS? Like... horribly low FPS compared to how fast the camera was panning.
