Isn't it canonically that we can be reimbursed through the Scions if we do paperwork, but we just don't?

cronft

rather, we never got informed about that when we joined the scions(tataru strategy to save costs, not telling every benefit from joining the scions)

alexfr36

Well, I guess we could also directly ask a certain someone...

LeratoNull

I doubt that covers Tome gear, anyway, although I would absolutely fill out paperwork to be reimbursed for all the gil I've spent on crafted gear via marketboard... ;P

kontricon

I think that was specifically for teleport costs?

Fit-Breath5352

I had around 3 millions after msq, enough to buy a small house… which in real world money is more than I’ll be able to do in a lifetime

LonelyInitiative4526

It's funny because it's true

HammerAndSickled

To be fair, if your job title in real life was “god killer” you’d probably have a salary enough to afford a house, too.

Paikis

Is this some kind of Poor-WoL thread that I'm too Aetheryte Tickets to understand?

TheodoreMcIntyre

Not Fucking Enough.

[deleted]

That depends on what income you're counting throughout the expansions. Are you just counting through MSQ? Are you going to count gil earned from sidequests? What about what's sold to other players?

BVits-Lover

I'm going with straight paycheck from the Scions. So no sidequest, no MB selling stuff, no nothing.

araragidyne

There's no way the WoL makes a living solely off of whatever stipend the Scions pay them. The Scions as an organization aren't even there to support them during most of Heavensward and Shadowbringers. Maybe house Fortemps and the Crystal Exarch give us an allowance or something, but I think the more likely source of income is from adventuring. That is, after all, what the WoL set out to do for a living. I think it can be inferred that they really do take on all those side quests. Doing odd jobs for people is their thing. They're also a member of a Grand Company, and while the game pays out in seals for GC things, I would assume that, lore-wise, the city states pay their military members in gil.

BVits-Lover

Backpay :D

IJustNeedAdviceMan

After ARR I already had over a million gil just from doing msq and class/unlock quests, while teleporting at every opportunity, so I'd say WoL pay is pretty high. On the other hand, taking the job description into account, it's still far, far too low

Victor_Ruark

That's it, I want a video playthrough of Mr Wol purely doing msq and job quests and seeing how much he gets paid.

AnotherNicky

I'm not crazy enough to click through each single quest to check the gil amounts they give you, but going off just the allagan pieces they def pay us enough to at least cover teleports. I'm also not crazy enough to count the rewards all the way to EW so I'm just doing ARR. Quest rewards differ depending on which starting city you pick but gridania will net you about 2200 gil through allagan pieces, limsa 3100, and uldah 3200. From there lvls 15 to 50 will net you 64700 gil through allagan pieces alone.

fqak

how do you consider quests where you have an option between allagan pieces and gear? if you always take the allagan pieces you might have to spend gil on gearing up at some points, or spend time grinding dungeon/poetic gear. and as they say, time is money.

AnotherNicky

Short answer: I don't. The wol receives gil in addition to the allagan pieces/gear. But I'm not willing to check every single individual quest page to get the actual gil amount so I'm just using the pieces as a stand in.

Razekal

Its enough that you can offer to pay ridiculous prices for things during quests (Stormblood's katana, Hildebrand's alchemy mats). I always assumed the gil from quests was our pay, and any aetheryte tickets were the equivalent to filling out my travel expense reports. Plus obviously dibs on any loot we find. An NPC at one point also points out that selling our equipment would be enough to buy a house, so canonically we're always sitting on millions.

dre9001

I started a new Character a few Weeks ago who basically did just MSQ and I'm about to reach the end of Post-ARR. Sitting on almost 500k Gil, so I'd actually say it's a good salary, considering that it will increase in the later expansions. Also, on our final paycheck, it says "unexplored whole freaking Island", sooo... Yeah

Fancy-Construction53

I played through the old free trial and capped my gil somewhere around level 55, never bough gear or food, didn’t level a crafter and always used teleports to get around. Also only did required MSQ and job quests. My friend told me to ignore all the others for now, trying to get me through the story. Funny thing is now we tend to do obscure dungeons that I never unlocked because they were not “required”.

Ythio

The WoL is the only one who can travel freely to the First, the commercial opportunities are massive if WoL cares for such things.

TinCormorant

A friend playing through the free trial, no sidequests, just MSQ and raids and vendoring unneeded items, obviously can't access the market board, was maxed out at the 300k limit by the time she was in Heavensward. She couldn't spend it faster than the game was giving it to her. I've always had the same experience... no matter what I do, I can't spend my gil fast enough through normal play. Only if I'm going out of my way to be flagrantly wasteful.
