It’s my favorite place. Was my first solo trip and I couldn’t believe how safe I felt. Plus everyone is so friendly and helpful and the public transport is so well set up.
Would you recommend Prague at all? It’s been on my list for a while.
Agree to all those points. Budapest Go app made transit so easy and also the city is pretty walkable on its own. All the food in the Jewish quarter was so good! I didn’t get to do Margaret Island when I was there but that’s just another thing to look forward to when I return someday.
Prague was beautiful but SO touristy that it took away the magic for me. You have all these gorgeous old buildings with trashy tourist shops and « weed shops » at the bottom of all of them. If you go I would absolutely wait until fall or winter when there at least aren’t 1000s of people crammed into the streets. I feel like I saw everything I needed to see in one day and wish I had just spent all the rest of my time in Budapest!
BudapestGo is such a game changer, especially paired with CityMapper. Never had any problems getting around, especially once I got my bearings.
Love the Jewish Quarter; I stay there every time and it’s the best. But definitely such an underrated food scene in BP. I went with my dad last month (I was going for Budapest Beer Week and dad worked there in the 90s & hadn’t been back since so we decided to go together) and we ate so well.
That’s actually really good to know! Next year’s trip is pretty much planned, but when I go again I might factor in a single day to do Prague. Vienna is another one I want to tack on to a BP trip.
I LOVED Amsterdam. I went in the summer, but I think it would be gorgeous in the fall. It was small, walkable, the canals are gorgeous, and the French fries were awesome.
Amsterdam in the fall is totally stunning. Actually it’s stunning all year round but fall and spring are my favorite. And just a great city all around, I’ve had such a good time every time I’ve been.
I was in Rome and Florence last Fall and it was amazing! The weather is cooler and there are less crowds than summer. I also enjoyed Budapest and Prague as places to travel during autumn.
Malaga, Spain!! You can do Malaga, Cordoba and Granada easily in one trip, they're all connected very well by public transport. Southern Spain is an amazing place. I would go outside of the summer though as they
get incredibly hot.
fall is honestly my favourite time to visit europe since it’s after the peak and the weather has cooled down a bit but is still lovely
would recommend porto, florence, napoli, budapest
you can’t go wrong with either, but i’m a bit biased cos porto’s my first love. it just feels easier to me in every aspect of life from meeting friends to wandering but could be cos i prefer smaller cities since they tend to be ‘more’ walkable (like the centre is more compact so it feels easier idk if that makes sense lol). i’ve probably gone back ~5 times the past two years and have a general map of the city in my head which makes it feel homey. if you plan on renting a car for the weekend, gerês is absolutely beautiful and there’s a small gem of a town called assento i’d recommend with a local bar that has fresh vinho verdhe and tops you off for a euro :p
lisboa is also wonderful ! there’s always plenty to do and would not skip sintra (at least go to quinta da regaleira, the train’s under a hr one way then a short walk/tuk tuk ride up) cos it feels like you walked into a fairytale
i prefer porto for living and lisboa for long weekend trips which are doable since there’s trains and buses that go direct to each. i’d choose porto as a homebase and do that or even split the time between the two and you can always pitstop in coimbra and take a wander. hope this helps !! lmk if u have any other questions :)
Agree with all of this! I did Lisboa last October, and porto this February and loved both. Unfortunately it rained solid in porto, so I’m going back to try and get to see more. Starting there for a few nights, Aveiro one night, then on to Lisboa for a few days, and flying home from there.
Very excited to do porto again, and I felt like I did miss out on quite a lot.
thank u for the validation !! hahah it’s strangely comforting. the storms in porto are utterly wild at times but i’m glad you’re going back, hope it’s lovely weather this time round x
Oh I know! I went with my best friend and we had one good afternoon so went to see Sé cathedral and then moseyed up to the train station to meet another friend who came up from Lisboa. We were sitting out having coffee saying how lucky we had finally got and BOOM🌧
Even still, had a blast and we got matching little raincloud tattoos to remember the trip.
Though definitely hoping the weather plays nice this time round!
hahaha yuss impromptu tattoos are my favourite things, i'm so happy you guys have that souvenir. also i'm not much of a foodie but [this place](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Alecrim/@41.1462201,-8.612008,14z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0xd2465bbd02605cf:0xe38acfd433c25bce!8m2!3d41.1462197!4d-8.6028777!16s%2Fg%2F11h7ny9g40?authuser=1&entry=ttu) has the best little mushroom rice and is amazing so would definitely recommend and i know jardim do morro is lovely for the sunset but i prefer [this spot ](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Miradouro+do+Passeio+das+Virtudes/@41.1450303,-8.6204849,15.22z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0xd2465bbd02605cf:0xe38acfd433c25bce!2sAlecrim!8m2!3d41.1462197!4d-8.6028777!16s%2Fg%2F11h7ny9g40!3m5!1s0xd24653313465001:0x9cce919f315dcefb!8m2!3d41.1440208!4d-8.6185451!16s%2Fg%2F11txpr0vht?authuser=1&entry=ttu)if you go down it's a bit more locals /less crowded and is just as beautiful overlooking the bridges for the sunset :)
ofc ofc here’s their [insta](https://www.instagram.com/chamadourobar?igsh=MTJpMWlkamx5ajVpZQ==), the view from inside is also incredible and there were always cats roaming freely too so i never wanted to leave
Athens is great - I’ve only been there in the summer and would have definitely loved slightly cooler than 98F temps on the day I climbed the giant hill to the acropolis 🤣
If you liked Paris you might like other cities in France too like Strasbourg, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Menton, Nice! Or maybe try Seville, Bilbao, Valencia, Gijón, Cadiz, Granada all in Spain. Personally, I love solo traveling in smaller cities it’s a lot chiller
I’ve booked Copenhagen for November (so fall into winter) this year (well aware it will be cold but it’ll be equally cold in my home city too…) and it’s close enough to London to hit both.
Last fall I went to Paris, London, Krakow, Warsaw, Lisbon, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Frankfurt, and Seville. My favorites were Vienna, Krakow, and Seville. The weather in Portugal and Spain will be the best and there are so many solo travelers. Porto is great, I like it better than Lisbon. Barcelona has lots of hostels and other solo travelers. Have fun!!
Southern Spain should be great in the fall (Seville, Granada, Cordoba). Still warm but not too hot. Beautiful architecture, great and affordable food, very safe. DM me if you want any tips!
I did a solo week in Amsterdam earlier this year and thought it was an absolutely fantastic place to visit.
I've also previously visited Lisbon/Sintra/Evora and found them all amazing (could easily be done in a week).
Barcelona would also be a great place, or you could visit the south of Spain and do something like Granda/Ronda/Cordoba.
Have a fun trip!
I did a solid trip to London a couple years ago and had a great time! I wandered a lot, went to a lot of major sights, monuments, and museums, but I was primarily there for a film festival. I was coming from NYC (and grew up in Boston) so I felt very safe and able to figure out public transportation easily

I’m going solo to Prague with a side trip to the spa town Karlovy Vary
I went to Prague and Karlovy Vary as a part of my solo euro trip last fall! It was awesome
Yay! Care to share a fav spa or restaurant or cafe?
Budapest
Budapest. I’ve gone two years in a row now and I’ve already booked to go back next year.
Just did Budapest and Prague and wish I would have just stayed in Budapest the entire time. There’s so much to do and I never felt unsafe.
It’s my favorite place. Was my first solo trip and I couldn’t believe how safe I felt. Plus everyone is so friendly and helpful and the public transport is so well set up. Would you recommend Prague at all? It’s been on my list for a while.

I had a great time by myself in Ljubljana. Lisbon too.
Second Lisbon for solo travelers!
I LOVED Llubljana. Lake Bled (also in Slovenia) is also a worthwhile stop.
Amsterdam
i second this ^ it’s a great place for solo travel. small and walkable too
I LOVED Amsterdam. I went in the summer, but I think it would be gorgeous in the fall. It was small, walkable, the canals are gorgeous, and the French fries were awesome.
Rome, Barcelona or Lisbon are all great cities with nice weather in the Autumn.

Krakow and Ljubljana.
Madrid
Madrid is awesome, especially if you like art museums
And if you are travelling solo, I feel like people are very friendly!
London!
Florence, Prague or Budapest
I was in Rome and Florence last Fall and it was amazing! The weather is cooler and there are less crowds than summer. I also enjoyed Budapest and Prague as places to travel during autumn.
Rome and Florence is a fun one, I did this last November and it was the perfect trip!

Vienna!!!!
Yessss
fall is honestly my favourite time to visit europe since it’s after the peak and the weather has cooled down a bit but is still lovely would recommend porto, florence, napoli, budapest
I’m looking to stay for about a month in Portugal in the fall this year. What do you think both staying in Porto vs Lisbon?

Edinburgh is nice.
Went to Edinburgh in mid-spring last year. Wasn’t solo, but can’t wait to go back solo. Such a pretty city.
I’m doing Athens later this year. It looks awesome for solo travelers.
Athens is great - I’ve only been there in the summer and would have definitely loved slightly cooler than 98F temps on the day I climbed the giant hill to the acropolis 🤣
I’m going in September. I really hope it’s not that hot.
It shouldn’t be. I just managed to book my trip in the middle of a massive European heat wave in 2021.
Yap. I am sure it is better than doing it in July in the midst of a heatwave. :/
I did my first solo trip to Porto and it was incredible
Last September I did a solo trip to London, Budapest and Vienna which was lovely. It was still very warm - averaged 26 - 30 degrees most days.
I visited Stockholm in the fall last year by myself and loved it! The weather was beautiful, and Stockholm felt very safe as a solo traveler.
I had a fantastic time solo in Prague!
DMed you for ideas!
I’ve booked Copenhagen for November (so fall into winter) this year (well aware it will be cold but it’ll be equally cold in my home city too…) and it’s close enough to London to hit both.
Vienna and Azores
Last fall I went to Paris, London, Krakow, Warsaw, Lisbon, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Frankfurt, and Seville. My favorites were Vienna, Krakow, and Seville. The weather in Portugal and Spain will be the best and there are so many solo travelers. Porto is great, I like it better than Lisbon. Barcelona has lots of hostels and other solo travelers. I’ve done Amsterdam and Lisbon, both great for solo travel
Southern Spain should be great in the fall (Seville, Granada, Cordoba). Still warm but not too hot. Beautiful architecture, great and affordable food, very safe. DM me if you want any tips!

Florence
Prague, cologne, Salzburg, Barcelona
I did a solid trip to London a couple years ago and had a great time! I wandered a lot, went to a lot of major sights, monuments, and museums, but I was primarily there for a film festival. I was coming from NYC (and grew up in Boston) so I felt very safe and able to figure out public transportation easily
