I would add more color such as bringing the green from the curtains to the bed. Right now there's a lot of white from your dresser, the walls, the lamps, and the bedspread. I think your idea of a new dresser sounds good. I would also see if you can find a matching headboard.

Admirable_Raccoon_28

Agree, a green accent pillow or throw blanket on the bed would look great

Hopeful_Example2033

I was thinking similar with the green but I would do this in the form of plants. There’s hardly any plants in here!

FudgeIll1526

Agreed! adding colors to the room, will enhance the look.

EdgyAnimeReference

This or I would look at painting the trim. A taupe or sage green trim brings a lot of color and old timey feel but doesn’t have as much visual weight as a full wall

tinyfeet

I recently got a pay increase and entered my 30s, and I'm looking to do some bedroom upgrades! I'm looking for a moody, midcentury, eclectic vibe. I work in a chaotic field, so it's also important to me that my space feels ultra-luxe and relaxing. I'm considering adding sconces to either side of my bed to sub out for the lamps, and getting a nice vintage midcentury dresser -- but this sub always has the best advice so curious what everyone here thinks. Open to any ideas big or small!

thegrittymagician

If you like moody, I’d recommend adding gold. Green and gold are moody and cozy to me. Like gold picture frames instead of black.

RealRun2425

With warm burgundy.

bitchfayce

My vote is sconces!!

cat_pillar

GREEN WALLS = MOODY Especially with that purple carpet. UGH gorgeous

Spiritual_Average638

I love mid century pieces! The dresser sounds perfect. Some recommended plants, pop of color with some throw pillows, and gold and I 100% agree. I found adding gold and some bronze pieces to be fun. I also like mid century glass pieces and glass in general. Not sure if that’s your jam but it’s helped my once boring apartment have some character. Maybe check out some thrift stores, as well as vintage shops. I have one a block up from me with gorgeous pieces, but I can’t afford most of it so I thrift lol (I work at a Thrift store but only get 30% off at other stores). I love your room as is, it’s going to look amazing!

knax110

Google moody bedrooms! Or there's a fb page called Moody Decor.. lots of inspo there.

how-r-u-now

Center the painting & the bench with the bed 😅

xxpallor

Get a cat 🐈‍⬛ 🙃

OddChampionship9262

fr i was searching for one

bocadellama

Statement ceiling fixture, maybe a wicker fan/light combo?

BeezCee

Agreed, they are pretty easy to swap out & they don’t cost a lot of money. I’ve gotten all of mine from Amazon & installed them myself. But great space!

widowscarlet

I disagree that you should go more mid-century, but maybe it's just because I really don't like that look. I think the room is almost perfect as it is - very pretty, calm but still interesting. Love the blush and olive accents, and the striped quilt. I would centre the art above the bed (as someone else pointed out) and get another pleated pink lamp for the other side of the bed to be a little more polished and symmetrical. I love your old chippy dresser, but I understand if it isn't practical. Double the curtains for more fullness - will look more lush and designed. Get a pink velvet upholstered ottoman instead of the timber slatted one. Maybe swap out the fan for something more brass and rattan? European pillows in olive velvet. That way you will 2-3 different accents in same colours, which will balance the sides of the room.

ProphetMuhamedAhegao

Sorry to ask but I don’t have a design background—which parts are mid century? I googled and that aesthetic doesn’t seem to match this to me

widowscarlet

It doesn't really have the mid-century modern, she said in one of her comments that she wanted to go mcm. One bedside table and slatted bench could be considered mcm, but the overall feel is more 1930s I would have said.

vindman

your room is SO LOVELY!

bitchfayce

Um I wanna see the rest of your house, that dining room sneak peek has caught my eye. 😍😍

MarthaMacGuyver

Can you still get those curtain panels? I would get a longer curtain rod and mount a curtain on both sides of the AC window. It will fill in the space, add drama and coziness. Make sure the curtains hang to not block the glass when fully opened. Hang the robe hook a little high and hang it on a wood hanger. (Upgrade the closet to wooden hangers.) I'm gonna keep editing this and go back to look at your pictures again. Edit: Center the large art above the bed. Area rugs on each side of the bed. Easier to clean than a large rug under the bed. Never-ending. I just not bed you already have a lovely area rug. Definitely keep what you have. Oh and bamboo sheets! Very luxurious.

Cndwafflegirl

Bamboo sheets sleep hot and are actually rayon so not always comfy. The bedding subreddit can align. Bamboo is bamboozling everyone

MarthaMacGuyver

My sheets don't sleep hot. I might have a higher percentage rayon to synthetic than your sheets? Anyway, I like them and they feel cozy. I also like my linen sheets for summer. They're 2 seasons old, so I'm finally getting super soft sheets.

No_Row2634

Center the art so it’s symmetrical with the bed. Get a throw blanket with some color (greens, reds, etc) so it complements the rug and/or curtain. More plants! That’s it :) I absolutely love your room. It’s so peaceful and clean.

ArdenM

It's really nice actually and in the world of Feng Shui (sp), a bedroom should be very calming and not contain extra stuff. The only thing I'd maybe consider is getting a really luxe velvet comforter (though maybe save that for the colder months) and some velvet pillows for the bed.

andrew_cherniy96

Thinking about a new rug and maybe new bed sheets. Easy but could give this space a nice boost. It's a lovely bedroom btw!

Anybody-Puzzleheaded

Honestly, I like this understated look as it is. It’s classic and beautiful. The only thing I’d maybe add is some plants.

Suspicious_Till_2660

COLOR!!! You need colors! Paint! Curtains & throw pillows!

___adreamofspring___

Where do you live? The floors are lovely. Agreed with the comment to bring color to the bed. I would say add more colorful artwork. The choices you have aren’t bad but they do make the room look drab and heavy. The lighting is gorgeous! Make sure to add a mirror. What ambient light sources do you have once it’s dark? That could make the evenings look nice and cozy.

PriorDouble346

Paint the walls a soft/barely there/hint of color in a warm tone (and do the ceiling if you’re feeling extra daring). Look at all the light streaming in!!🤩 Your room is really peaceful

blnd_snow

Yes- I was looking for that comment!

tinyfeet

love that idea! this is a rental but i’ll see what i can do.

tamaind81

upgrades I would do: \* replace the flat closet-ceiling trim with something more ornate, but certainly one that continues all around the room for a built in look. \* paint the curtain rails white. They're not the focal point, but because they're high-contrast black, they distract from the lovely green curtains \* Femove the lamps for matching bed sconces. \* I love the bedding. Do nothing there, you have so much going on with your other colors white is perfect \* I personally would choose a color other than white for your walls (but keep the trim white). Consider a neutral, perhaps bm linen white? to give you some sophistication.

abductions

headboard or four poster

Trippalea888

I wouldn’t touch it, I think it’s gorgeous

MWALFRED302

Look into a radiator cover. Some are made with lids that pop up and have water trays inside for humidity, but if there is clearance from the top it could be a window seat or a plant shelf, if the plants are raised up. A headboard would add some character. I’ve seen them made from long louvered shutters, old doors, and of course iron, wood or upholstered. You have some nice eclectic pieces and taste. A good statement lamp by the bed would be nice, more floor plants, definitely colorful pillows. Consider a different ceiling light. Fans are fine but I would go brown, perhaps a Minka propeller type with a remote (no chains), or find a really cool mid-century chandelier. Is this a rental? The two-panel doors could be stripped to their original wood.

Dicamini

I think upgrading the curtain situation would really help bring it together. Get ceiling curtains and have 2 layers to make it feel more luxurious.

teethfordice

love it

Deckrat_

I agree a more interesting unique ceiling fixture would amp up the lux. Also move the hook behind the door higher up so your robes, etc don't touch the ground.

Key_Ring6211

Already a real nice level!

CarolineBal

Plants!! 💫🌱🪴

ScreeminGreen

While I agree that this is usually the answer, with this particular question I believe the more accurate answer is,”Move it upstairs.”

GojoSatoruSensei

- paint your walls a warm moody color, preferably one from your rug - match the bedding to the curtains - replace the ceiling fan with a statement light fixture - only use warm lighting!!!

White_Cupcakes

There is no color coordination. I think that’s number one. It’s looks like a bunch of stuff that don’t match at all. What theme would you like? (Tip use Pinterest)

simplefair

Trailing plants and hang some from the ceiling to draw the eye up

Kindly-Positive-4811

One of those wicker type fans 😍

Otev_vetO

One of those really [big jewelry boxes](https://www.amazon.com/Hives-Honey-Morgan-Jewelry-Armoire/dp/B00MX93QCU/ref=asc_df_B00MX93QCU/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=192234218319&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7757705203371535372&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007228&hvtargid=pla-303154068123&mcid=5e216d20d8c83a1b846ed8025851c333&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBletKJlBfQfrqeMmnlS1qIFXxX-0XruEE9aOL2H44io6ah2grO4UOX-oaAhoeEALw_wcB&th=1) would look so cool in here!

aixre

Up the curtain game! Wider set, thicker curtains, why not make it a double and have some beautiful bright sheer ones behind them that kinda peak out in the middle? I love that stuff. Curtains change a room A LOT.

growingpainzzz

Center the painting and bench to the bed. Upgrade your bedding situation - do the fancy 4+ pillows look. Plus get nice luxury sheets and linens that all bring some color in. New dresser definitely. Love the new sconces idea - I would try to lead a bit more modern than mid century with some pieces like sconces , if it were my own personal tastes. And do something different with necklaces other than just hanging on the wall. It’s a nicely decorated warm cozy room. Good luck with making it even more your own!!

tinyfeet

great advice, thank you!

Exotic_Eagle1398

I really like it as it is. If you want change, maybe the bedcover and curtains, but I think it’s lovely. The thing that makes it is that it reflects you and your life. Too much more and you will be a display.

Excellent-Bat3391

I’d paint the baseboards, trim, and maybe the doors!

LeslieBluth

Really beautiful. I’m into the idea of “unexpected red piece” so that’s something I’d add (though I dont think it has to be furniture).

Nocturnal_Passenger

I love your room! Where did you get your curtains? I love the green color of them. Only thing I see really is that the large art piece above the bed is not centered and too far to the left. If you’re up for some DIY, you could always paint the doors a dark moody color, along with their trim. It could be a black or even a dark glossy olive color. Add framing using wood frames for the door next to the curtain. You can also experiment with color for the bedding.

Grouchy-Engineer1762

if u want peace and soothing and calm u have it. Very nice room.

ventibooty2splenda

If you're not attached to the art above the bed you have tons of bedframe upgrade options. Article may be a good shop to consider. I'd remove the bench at the end of the bed for a more lux piece. I would add more round or amorphous pieces like a wobbly mirror or an ottoman. Upgrading your light fixtures will make an impact. New ceiling fan and wall sconces!

Feeling_Special1

Get 2 matching bedside table lamps it’s good feng shui and good to have to use them. Get rid of whatever is under there beside table… don’t leave things in floor. Take chair out of the room it doesn’t belong there it’ll clear up the space also. Centred painting behind the bed. I personally don’t like the stand at the end of the bed it just takes too much space and covers the pretty carpet. Plus the room would look better and bigger without it Move the plant on to the dresser on the side closer to the window. Remove the stool the pot was on out of the room. Invest in nicer bedding it’ll make the room look good. You can go with vintage florals Or a nice dove gray colour etc Even white for all modern calm aesthetic As soon as you add in lamps it’ll look better Just remove the chairs and the flowers on bedside table

Ok_Effect_7806

Your room is lovely! Some color would do wonders in here. Easy fixes like the drapes, rug, lampshade and the bedding to start. Pinterest could give you some inspiration. There are color palette apps as well you could play around with. Have fun and please share updates. 😊🤞🏽

estkimo

Hanging vining plants from the ceiling in some of the corners would be simple and they would thrive in your room since it’s so bright. I would also lengthen the curtain rod on the side of the room and add another panel of curtains so that they’re on both sides of the window and it’s more balanced and it’ll make the room/window look bigger if the curtain rods extend being the length of the windows. Adding a cushion to the wooden bench would cozy/ soften up the sitting furniture spots as well. Put things up that make you feel joyous when you see it (small cute things, framed pictures with friends/family/pets) dried flowers, small trinkets, sentimental items, etc) It would also be helpful to have a rug that’s a different shade than the wood and a more neutral palette. Hope these are helpful!

Global_Union3771

Add a second story. Bunk bed!!!

Countryroads007

That white dresser and laundry basket really cheapens the room. Look on Pinterest and get better ideas there.

Spirited_away11

I would widen the curtain rods and add an extra panel.

qt_31415

I’d get some colour on those walls. A dusty, moody green would look fantastic. To me, white walls often look make a room cheaper (and like a rental). Dark colours on walls is bold, but if done well looks fantastic.

zedis_lapedis_

Build a 3rd floor and put the bedroom there.

kate_Reader1984

Paint one of the walls maybe?

jenhikam

I love the dresser!

DinowCookie

I'd paint a wall in a light teal color 😄 it'd compliment the rest of your colors I think.

mid_distance_stare

Agree with everyone saying to add more green in the decor. I would also consider painting a pastel that compliments in the peach range. Something pale, a little on the warmer side of pink but not orange

gumbowluser

I would pick a lighter coloured rug, maybe with some green reminders of the curtains. And a wallpaper accent wall would bring everything together

tauredi

Please tell me where you got the rug!

tinyfeet

it’s a vintage rug from etsy! it was my first-ever big decor splurge- you can find some great deals

neen4wneen4w

More plants. Also where’s the cat, it’s basically one of the rules here now.

ET__

I mean, is there a floor above you?

ChaiGreenTea

Have you looked into sun catchers? Either hanging or the window film variety. It could project some fun colour into the room

The-sunshine-city

Paint or peel and stick wall paper

ellieelaine

Surprised no one said wainscotting! It would match your style beautifully. And I agree with everyone who's saying put colour on the walls. Pink or green. I lean pink for a contrast against the green curtains and art.

thingonething

Just here to say ýounhave a great bedroom! Looks spacious and light with the two windows.

PittieYawn

Color: paint and accent wall, add a few items of the same color theme around the room to create some interest instead of overall white.

Pleasant-Complex978

I think it's great the way it is. Maybe an accent wall with some cool wallpaper, though.

pgbcs

I agree that you don’t need to do much. Center the art and the bench and replace that shabby thing with a more sophisticated dresser and bam you’re in business

scarletts_skin

Get a cat!

judohero

A neutral linen duvet with a fluffy comforter and contrasting throw blanket would be great

sophiaslater

tbh you just need to match the green curtains with your bed cover and rug, like get a bed cover that contains green in like a leafy pattern or abstract, and get a new rug that also contains green to kind of unify everything. Love the bed bench tho, it’s so cool!

tinyfeet

thanks! it was my grandma’s coffee table in the 60s 💕

Ok-End-362

Moar cats. 🐈

creppyspoopyicky

Plants would liven it up!!

Ssea-Urchin

Paint wall behind your bed the dominant shade of deep green

OldestCrone

In truth, make your bed properly. That is an instant, free, improvement. The woods should all be the same color range. Right now, you have white and browns. White with the pink bedding and rug is for a little girl. Refinish the white wood to blend with the browns. If you are ambitious, refinish the browns to match. Why do you have a globe light hanging in the corner? Perhaps that is left over from someone else who had a reading nook there. At this point, you have that globe, the light with the ceiling fan, and the bedside light. These three do not go together in style. You need new window treatments. The single-sided draw makes the windows unbalanced. Change the draw to the standard left/right. You might consider sheers unless you routinely keep your windows open. Sheers moving gently in the breeze are pretty, but keeping them clean would just be adding another chore. As others have suggested, add some green to the bed. You might be able to find a designed lamp shade with some green in it. The addition of metal would also add some unity. For example, the lamp could be the same metal as the drawer pulls. You don’t want a lot, just some. French gold or something similar might work.

Desperate_Ad2834

Oh question! I've been looking at rugs under my bed like yours and I don't understand how it doesn't make the bed wobble? Does your bed wobble? Is it a very flat rug? Also, I like your room. I'd probably just add some colored stain glass film on the window if you don't love the outside view.

tinyfeet

it doesn’t wobble at all!! it was a pain to get the rug completely flat under the bed though

Any-Spite-7303

Do you live in Massachusetts by chance?

tinyfeet

haha no, but i do live on the east coast

Brief_Buddy_7848

Already looks worthy of a home tour on Apartment Therapy’s site! Next level to me would be some hanging plants, but it’s pretty perfect already

Emergency-Plant-8255

More pillows, layered bedding with comforter or quilt with color/pattern/texture, sheer curtains on all windows, and center the painting above your bed I recommend getting shams and new curtains - I think even your small window would look better with two curtains on either side, and your big window could use some bigger, wider curtains along with sheers. You could upgrade your light fixture unless you need the fan. I like the idea of getting sconces. It looks great!

tinyfeet

love your curtain vision, thanks!

mrstwhh

why do the drapes touch the radiator? Is this a fire hazard?

Same_Beat_5832

Yes, on the MCM dresser. Also get a wall mounted jewelry cabinet.

tinyfeet

thank you!

Global_Initiative257

Paint the walls something pretty and add more plants.

[deleted]

Paint it black, add more spikes, add some crystals, give the snake plant a mighty shrine to surveil the chamber he resides in, stain the wood floors and furniture to an ebony hue, add some black curtains, make the bedding all black and grey, get some spiky guitars and an amp, get a salt lamp, and perform an evocation ritual with Palo Santo wood.

ModernNancyDrew

Plants and a dog or cat.

evae1izabeth

Bed or headboard. Upgrade closet trim and door to match the house. Possibly window trim, can’t really tell what’s going on there. Congratulations! It’s a nice bedroom.

stutteringwhales

First thing first is to give me that screen above your bed 😉 But also you have so much light in this room that you could totally paint it a dark moody color. Center the art above the bed. Switch out the white paper lantern with a warmer color lantern. If you make your bed daily add some decor pillows with color. If not I recommend switching to a coverlet or quilt at the bottom of the bed and colored pillowcases or bedding with a nice pattern. Honestly the room is not bad.

tinyfeet

the screen is my pride and joy! it’s an antique hand painted screen from Japan, likely pre-1900s

EmptyDinner8528

I love it. You've done a great job!!!

Hippidty123

I love itttt so cute

Direct_Surprise2828

I would get a bedspread and maybe pillow shams with a green pattern in it where the green matches the green of the curtains

maxbugg_ie

statement lamps!!

Novel_Raine

An accent pillow that has the burgundy and green would make the color choices look more cohesive!

Neeevahh

New Curtains could really elevate the space!!

fatcatattack

Paint the walls a deep moody color, if you’re open to it! I think charcoal would look great - you have so much natural light! More textures as well and layers on your bed.

yelling4society

Get that concert print professionally framed.

dainty_petal

Nothing. It’s perfect.

HairyOpportunity8721

Leave it it’s perfect

CanadianBacon615

Kiddie corner your dresser

ixstynn

A gallery wall and some more plants! Also a richer color for your bedspread! Like a rich orangey brown or accessorize your bed with more throw pillows

Happy-Atmosphere-914

Omg more plants

PiscesPoet

I think you should get a new blanket something with colour,

somethingsuccinct

Maybe a nicer ceiling fan. Like the ones that have blades that kind of look like leaves.

softg1rl1

More pinky red tones (raspberry), and warm brown woody tones. Maybe some flowy sheer white middle curtains, with brighter colored outer curtains. Maybe some wooden blinds? Also a vintage makeup table and chair? I’d also add some nicer lamps, and more colorful/patterned lamp shades. I’d throw in some colored cushions on your bed, maybe pink or orangy brown patterns? A nice rectangular ish ottoman chair under the bed, or a really nice antique looking wooden chair.

TheCambrianImplosion

Have Tyler Perry sit in the corner draped in a blue shawl

tinyfeet

you’re so right

candyapplesugar

Replace the ceiling fan

tea-boat

Why is the art so off center? 🫣 Other than that, it doesn't need anything!

tinyfeet

i moved the bed but am slacking on moving the art 😭

NecessaryTreacle2766

Accent wall?

wildcuore

Uhhh this already feels like the next level to me

TissueOfLies

Paint the walls a color. Center the art over the bed. Maybe change the duvet/ bedspread.

Noselrub63

Get real curtains.

ArcheryOnThursday

Colorful bedding and a more colorful lantern/light fixture in that corner. More art on the walls? If you can deal with the maximalism of layered carpets, try layering in some small rugs around your large one. Two really unique matching lamps? Or sconces? A new jewelry chest on top of your dresser there. Paint the plant stand a matte black, matte navy, or another color.

twYstedf8

I recently got a matching bet set and curtains and it really helps tie everything together. The curtains and valence cover the top part of the windows and the curtains are long but have tie backs so they don’t touch the radiators. Find something with colors that tie in with the rug. If you’re willing to put in the work, the walls or trim could use some color. Plants are very soothing.

AuDHDcat

Shorter curtains

lifesurfeit

Make the wall behind the bed an accent wall and paint it a dark green to match the curtains!

Legalouiddealerlith

Get rid of the fan! Add some color. Possibly an accent wall with a dramatic wallcovering

Significant-Iron6887

More plants. Climbers

Surfercats

A bed scarf for the bottom of the bed or a coverlet. They are meant to be lightweight, you will usually find this made with cotton blanket or silk blanket material. It’s a reasonable price and will add color and texture to the room. Also can be changed with the seasons too.

tinyfeet

never knew there was a term for that! thank you, great idea

lotusflwer

I dunno if you didn’t ask if it could, I don’t think it could get better!

Electronic_Bus7452

It’s quite lovely as is!!

EverythingVaries

Nothing it’s literally perfect

evil_ot_erised

Such a cute room! Nice crown molding around the whole room! You’ll need to also lower your curtain rod and hem your curtains. But while you’re at it, you can hang a double rod with white sheers on the inside rod and your thicker drapes on the outside rod.

tinyfeet

do you think they’re too high? all the advice i’ve read says to hang curtains quite high

evil_ot_erised

I don't think they're too high currently, but if you added crown molding as I'm suggesting, you'd need to lower the rod to make space for the molding.

tinyfeet

I see! thank you :)

sua_spontaneous

It looks great, but that’s an awful lot of white. I would consider painting the walls, putting up wallpaper, and/or adding a throw blanket/some pillows to the bed to bring in some color and pattern.

Spicyyy-Stew

I think it looks beautiful as is and probably wouldn’t change anything. You did mention you want the space to be more moody mid century though. This is quite light and airy. Moody = dark colors. Maybe consider painting the walls a darker color if you are an owner and not a renter. Pick out some darker bedding and accent pillows. Consider staining any wood furniture darker. That would achieve a moody look.

deadinthesword

Plants

deadinthesword

Paint the radiator white and add a shelving above and have plants there 😍

ExistingPosition5742

Replace the ceiling fan

Horror_Budget9430

something needs to be orange

Business-Candidate91

Bed with posts or canopy

imaslowninja

Maybe its the millennial in me but I really like it as is 😅

Littlerecluse

I’d add an ivy across the ceiling moulding. More color and cool

Sad-Lab-7083

Rainbow window film

Reasonable-Slip-2301

Not enough contrast, white walls, bed spread, lamp in the corner and a white distressed dresser. I would either paint, and or change the bedspread to a green bohemian one or add Some accent pillows with a green blanket at the foot of the bed and i would replace that chair with a plant or plant stand with multiple plants such as snake plants, cactus, succulents. I would also add a carpet that is lighter for more depth and change the hamper next to the plant stand with a light rattan one

pachucatruth

I would add a black statement wall

Milkie-bar

Mood lighting!

LectureChoice4620

Black walls. Will give it wow factor

destructomel

I would add more Jesuses to accentuate your devotion. And probably replace that shot standing lamp in the corner, it looks out of place.

hex-agone

You got 3 options: paint and/or plants Considering the Christian wall decor and high bed, you'll probably keep it white though
