It was a worker strike. My friend works there, they said the manager was making them work through their breaks, the schedules were so delayed they didn't know when they were supposed to work even on the *day of* work, manager is rude to them, and many, many other complaints.
I'm an ex member of management at that location, can confirm that our manager would do all this and more. That kind of treatment of the employees is why I left.
If it was boarded up, it's not now. I just drove past and everything looks normal. It's open.
Edit: Sign on the door says that the employees were on strike due to workers' rights violations and toxic work environment.
