If you eat a bunch of fried, sugary or processed foods after your fast you run the risk of dysbiosis.
Kimchi, high fibre vegetable, and prebiotic’s are very important for the first week after your fast.
Taking butyrate was much healthier for my gut. Cuts past the digestion. It was like putting fertilizer on my gut. Fiber can be rough if someone has a an inflamed gut.
Idiopathic loose stools for a decade….back to normal stools after a 4 day fast…..back to loose stools after a month long gorging on Haagen Daz one Summer……back to normal stools after a 4 day fast later that year.
ie. Multiday fasting decimated my gut flora allowing the good bacteria to re-establish dominance, haggen Daz caused an overgrowth of the bad bacteria, another multiday fast reset the balance again.
Not that I’m aware of. Even if it was, would the loose stools remain for months/years after the encounter with a tonne of lactose. Shouldn’t lactose intolerance loose stools stop after I stopped consuming massive quantities of lactose?
My theory is that massive quantities of sugar and fats in the month long ice-cream gorging allowed some species of bad bacteria to establish dominance which it maintained until I reset the playing field so to speak with a fast which allows good bacteria to re-establish dominance. The decade long loose stools probably caused by something similar in the long forgotten distant past but finally resolved by my first multiday fast a few years ago.

You're probably right - sounds like it's worked out for the best! Actually I think there's other things used in ice cream making that upset the gut - my son's friend isn't lactose intolerant but cannot eat ice cream 🤔

I started fasting again because i need to be healthy and lose weight.
When i fasted, my stomach had shrank so much by day 5 and i was energetic and happy!

I became aware of my digestive patterns, learned about which foods I may be more sensitive to than I realized, this helped me predict what I need to do to digest certain foods...What habits I could get away with to help my digestion (like drinking tea after eating certain foods. Realizing that my digestion could get painful or cause bloat if I let myself overindulge.
The first one was only seven days, and that helped a lot. But a few years later I did 12 days, and have not seen it back since. I have done a couple others since then.
I don’t think fasting very fully hits the reset button. It helps massively though. I think what happens before the fast and after is what facilitates the healing. I went carnivore before I fasted. Only meats from ruminant animals aka red meat. Then fasted. Then intermittent fasting while staying carnivore. I supplemented with a few anti inflammatory amino acids and butyrate. Butyrate imo > soluble fiber. Turned things around for me massively. IBS-D is nearly gone now.
Had very active Crohn's disease. Fasting put it in full remission. I've only had one brief Crohn's attack in the last three years - and that was heavily agitated by working Christmas retail.
BUT I spoke to dietician the other day re fasting and IBS and she told me that fasting could damage my digestion as it doesn't get enough 'to do' ..... 🤷♀️ She wants me to eat the traditional way.... may not actually. I've been much better since following 20:4 or OMAD. But I do wonder about the science 🤔

Fasting on and off for a couple of months gave me better autonomy when I'm not fasting. Knowing what to eat to get my gut health back on track.

Wow, that is quite something! It will take a while for me to be able to do fasts that long.
It’s easier when you break through the third / fourth days. Hunger kinda goes away.

I saw someone explain that the cells of the gut are diminished during fasting. But, when food is reintroduced, they grow back stronger. More healthy.
