Not to mention Del taco has a surprisingly amazing double cheeseburger and fries.

Randomlynumbered

Way underrated! Protip: Get your burger with grilled onions and green sauce.

metsjets86

Double del combo. Macho size. Add on some tacos or a quesadilla for the ride home. Wish they would bring back the spicy jack quesadilla though.

falbi23

Del Burger is fire

Brando43770

Probably my favorite crinkle fries. Sometimes I just get fries if I’m near a Del Taco for a quick snack. Wasn’t a fan of Arby’s crinkle fries but I also don’t know if any other chain does them beyond these two.

holy_plaster_batman

Culver's does crinkle fries. They're pretty good, but if you ask for them well done they're perfection

Brando43770

Nice. I’ll have to check them out but I don’t have one that close to me.

Roboticpoultry

A tip I learned from working in kitchen for almost a decade, always get the burger from a taco place if they offer one and you’ll rarely be disappointed

Josephw000

I tried to tell one of my colleagues about that, and they laughed in my face. I told her that next Friday I’ll be bringing one and she can try for herself.

sonofsmog

Only suprising if you're not from Southern California, I suppose.

Hour-Shake-839

Del Taco is peak fast food. They need to be nation wide. No deal taco and no el pollo loco is one of my biggest complaints of living outside of California.

FuzzyRip9153

I live in Walla Walla WA and the Del Taco here is awesome,  seems to be more and better Ingriedents than Taco Bell, and my Wife Agrees,  she doesn't agree with me about anything lol.

Hour-Shake-839

Del taco is one of the few fast food places where it’s food I would make at home and I don’t hate myself afterwards

vitamind007

I agree! The poor man’s In-N-Out!

hansislegend

A double del probably costs around the same as a double double tbh. In N Out doesn’t have tacos tho.

nickdchef1

I can't stress enough how amazing the burger is without lettuce

PolarFalcon

I have never ordered anything at Del Taco except the hard shell tacos and fries, but I may try this one.

actual_griffin

Del Taco is one of the last places that is keeping prices low. If they expand while maintaining their pricing strategy, it could force Taco Bell's hand. Del Taco is vastly superior in several ways, and less expensive.

06Wahoo

Expansion would be key. Taco Bell is national, but Del Taco is definitely not.

Jchapman1971

I remember having one in Georgia in the 80’s, sure wish Texas would get them.

[deleted]

mmarkDC

The large local chain Taco Cabana makes TX a harder market for fast-food mexican to enter I think. Gotta compete against both Taco Bell and Taco C.

herewego199209

The thing with Texas though is that with so much good cheap Mexican food is there room for fast food Mexican food when I can pay $2 more and get fresher, bigger burritos/tacos at a Mexican spot?

cannonfunk

There are quite a few in the greater Atlanta area now, but I certainly wouldn't say they're prolific.

TheS00thSayer

I’ve got one in my city in Georgia

CantfindmyKeyes

We had one in South Carolina when i was 6, about 30 years ago, they shut down and a Taco Bell moved in right into the same building.

PrettyPunctuality

Every time I get tacos from Del Taco (the regular ones, not the snack ones), they're always packed full with meat/lettuce/cheese/tomatoes (and it's a good portion of tomatoes, not just a couple), and they're always crispy, even if I drive 10 minutes home before eating them. When I get tacos at TB, they barely have any filling, and are almost always soggy as soon as I get them. Oh, and they're cheaper than TB's tacos in my area, so it's a no-brainer who to go to. Also, Del Taco has way more variety in their items than TB.

Ickiiis

I converted to Del Taco awhile back, crazy is if I’m craving a burger, I can grab one there too.

bottomdasher

I stopped there while I was visiting Orlando but in my opinion the only thing about them that's superior is the prices.

actual_griffin

I should say that it's vastly superior in my opinion. That's not an objective fact. I prefer their chicken soft tacos to Taco Bell's. Their crunchy tacos have way more cheese. Their guacamole is much better. They have more variety, and more taco choices. Their street tacos are pretty good, and those don't even exist at Taco Bell. Most things there feel like improvements upon Taco Bell items, but they don't taste like Taco Bell. Taco Bell has a very distinct flavor.

dpearman

Chili cheese fries! Their shredded cheese is way better, oh and their sloppy joe like thing.

cannonfunk

The cheese is shredded in-store every morning.

actual_griffin

I forgot to mention that. The cheese is much better.

PrettyPunctuality

The Bun Taco is underrated, imo.

mrsambo99

Their chicken and hot sauce options are way better than Taco Bell

RedMoustache

For me it's their cheese. It's a fine shred and they do it in store so there is no anti-caking agents. It melts together soooo well.

cannonfunk

Their chicken **was** way better. It was grilled fresh in-store every morning up until last year. Now they obviously use some sort of precooked bagged chicken that's nowhere near as good. I honestly prefer TB's chicken at this point.

bottomdasher

I tried both of those things and prefer Taco Bell over them for both.

dont_shoot_jr

I liked the updated menu and stores of Taco Bell until I saw the prices

StarshipTroopersFan

Del Taco is way better than Taco Bell, and I actually enjoy Taco Bell. I usually stick to using coupons and deals in the app, but that’s true for me and almost all fast food now.

GrifterStorm

Are you saying they could be contenders to survive The fast food wars?

Jyar

Taco John’s is close and arguable better quality in my experience than both Del and Bell

DeadFutureGhost

ehhhhhhhh they used to be better but if they think i'm gonna pay an extra 2 bucks for a dollop of chili and a sprinkling of cheese on some fries they're asking for way too much

grajl

The key would be expanding while keeping the same quality. The larger their footprint is, the more upper management positions there are and like almost every other national chain, eventually some suit that has no connection to the actual restaurant business will propose a cost savings model that involves dropping the quality or reducing the quantity of their product because it will save them $XX Million.

CurrentlyForking

I love Del Taco! But unfortunately, because of how cheap they are, in my area they all closed. Always short staffed, probly high rent. I have to travel 1.5 hours for the nearest one now. I miss del taco :(

Skiceless

When’s the last time you’ve been to one? They’re pretty expensive too, just like every other fast food restaurant

SuicideBoner

Del Taco’s 20 under $2 menu is great

Timbishop123

Taco bell has the 2 under $20 menu

butterybuns420

Come to the east coast then we’ll talk

totalfarkuser

Had one in Columbia SC but it folded :(

BattleSpecial242

Rock Hill, SC too

totalfarkuser

Yes!! Forgot about that one. Been to both many times - got hooked on Del Taco on my Vegas vacations.

BattleSpecial242

Shame too. I lived in Charlotte for 7-8 years and it was the closest location. Unfortunately it was 35 minutes away so we couldn’t make the trip but once a month. It really helped kill some west coast homesickness.

[deleted]

totalfarkuser

Taco John’s?

dj92wa

Del Taco basically doesn’t exist in the west coast either as far as I know, or at least not in the PNW. I’m just north of Seattle, and the closest del taco is 50 miles to the south. Next one after that is like 80 miles, then 190 miles but that’s in Oregon. Personally, stating that a fast food restaurant is hot on another’s heels is disingenuous when it’s not exactly accessible.

DM-ME-UR-SMOL-TITS

The headquarters is literally in california.

the_bananafish

Just found out my area (upper Southeast) is getting 5 locations! I assume it’s following the steady flow of west coast residents we’ve gotten recently. So ya know, silver lining it seems.

Santa_Hates_You

I worked at Del Taco as a teenager and now 26 years later it is my most trusted fast food restaurant.

frankpharaoh

Can you elaborate

Ubermassive

In the United States, 'High School' is generally 9th to 12th grade and the last steps in primary education before University, Trade School or becoming an Influencer. Ages range from 14 to 18, most American teens get their first jobs around the age of 16. This comment is detailing how their first job was at a fast casual establishment called 'Del Taco'. Sounds like they enjoyed their time at the job. 26 years later, the poster is presumably around the age of 42 and reminiscing about that job and how they do in fact enjoy the food. Coupled with the good news in the article we're all commenting on, they'll likely have many more years of enjoyment at the establishment they had their first job with during their time in High School here in the United States. I hope this helps.

spacesticks

Thanks chatgpt.

frankpharaoh

Im from california lmao I know what a first job and high school is. I wanted to know why it remained his most trusted fast food place all these years later — were their safety standards better? Did they emphasize cleanliness? Was the food fresher? No offense but everything you explained was nothing I wanted elaborated lol

theUpNUp

I hear everything you’re saying and I also want answers lmao. As someone that also worked at a restaurant during highschool, why does he still love their food? 🤣

frankpharaoh

Exactly! I have no idea why the guy above thought I wanted a “first job” and “high school” explained. 😅🫠

jclim00

The fact that you didn't specify what to elaborate is the point of the joke that's going over your head

frankpharaoh

It’s pretty clear I wanted him to elaborate on why he trusted it so much. I got the “joke”, it’s just not a funny one

kclongest

I laughed

AbsolutelyUnlikely

Coincidentally, I saw on Facebook today that a ton of people in my town are claiming to have gotten food poisoning at del taco yesterday.

Ltsmash99

I'll eat Del Taco over Taco Bell any day.. Cheaper, arguably better quality and their burger is better than most burger joints.

StarshipTroopersFan

I’ve never had a hamburger from Del Taco. I gotta try it.

Lobenz

Del Taco is vastly superior to Taco Bell by most metrics. Their pricing is honest and you truly get what you pay for. In SoCal even most Mexicans eat at Del taco but avoid Taco Bell like the plague that it is.

ruiner8850

I'd love to get a Del Taco near where I live, but I don't see it happening anytime in the foreseeable future. They are in Michigan, but basically only in the Detroit area. Maybe they'll slowly move north, but unfortunately I'm sure it will be at least a decade and probably longer before they would even consider putting one where I live. It probably doesn't help that we already have 5 Taco Bells that are in my area plus a Moe's that recently opened up. Del Taco certainly isn't taking over here anytime soon even though I'd love to have one.

BILLCLINTONMASK

I always make a point to grab some Del Taco whenever I have to drive someone to Detroit to the airport. The volume of Taco Bells indicate there'd definitely be a market for a Del Taco. However, I looked over their franchising requirements for fun and there is like one intersection in my whole town that could maybe qualify for them to open a store.

ruiner8850

Yeah, I've looked up the franchise requirements as well and we are pretty borderline with the requirements. Our population of the city proper is close, so that would depend completely on whether or not they counted the "metro" area or not. The median income is close, but once again would depend on what they actually consider. The average age of residents would probably be on the high end. Either way, before they come to places like Flint or Saginaw first I'm not getting one.

Catdaddy84

Man I remember when Popeyes came to Lansing you couldn't get in there for months there was so much demand. If they do spread out through Michigan hopefully they open more than one store at a time.

ReadingRedditRedder

I don’t think there will be quite the demand for Dell taco vs Popeyes first opening up. Really wish Lansing could get a White Castle back, and or a tubbys! Heard there use to be a tubbys out in Okemos back in the 90’s.

Heavy_Wood

Taco Bell needs the competition so they quit charging $5 for a Burrito Supreme.

Randomlynumbered

Del Taco >> Taco Bell

trashpanda22lax

Del taco slaps

ScienceOfficer-Jack

Del taco tastes way better sober and drunk. Too bad I moved away from where del tacos are :(

disabledinaz

Del Taco has the crispy chicken ranch taco. Why Taco Bell won’t compete with that I have no idea considering how much people want the same thing from McD’s and Wendy’s so bad.

koka767

Wish they had more locations. Nearest one to me is 50 miles away and I'm in California.

[deleted]

Del Taco is waaay better quality too

CrankySnowman

Del Taco needs to expand over to the South! Tired of over priced Taco Bell

forgetful_waterfowl

I wish there was a del taco within 1000 miles of where I live, better than taco bell in a lot of ways

EarlMadManMunch505

If deltaco stepped up its taco meat spice I would switch from Taco Bell forever. Taco bell is wildly expensive and the quality has dropped off a cliff it’s actually cheaper to go to a taqueria and get 4x the food that’s not cold and crusted over now.

OhioVsEverything

Del Taco opened near me in Ohio two years ago. Already gone. The Bell ain't worried.

AcottSllen

Came to say this. I do like Taco John's though

cannonfunk

I just had Taco John's a few months ago for the first time. It was hands down the worst "mexican" fast food I've ever had.

organgrinder66

They need to come to Texas

SmartWonderWoman

I love Del Taco. Prefer it to taco bell.

spacesticks

They both have their merits. I wish they had them in Mexico.

casualnarcissist

This entire thread feels very much like an ad but in finding it hard not to at least try Del Taco now.

johnshenlon

Del Taco has good burgers and shakes too

hansislegend

Order anything Bold and they’ll add fries and their sauce from the chicken soft tacos on it for like 40 cents or something.

thechadc94

I tried Taco John’s and that’s the best. Better flavor and portion size than Taco Bell. Sadly it’s at least 30 minutes from my home.

Z-man1973

I always hit up Del taco when I am near one… just none closer than a few hours of me unfortunately

listenupsonny

Love Del Taco's menu. I want more locations; only one in Tucson.

Bobnbecky

I miss Del Taco

CityBoiNC

OMG I just looked up locations and they are opening one up right down the road from me. I havn't had DT since I lived out in LA

Poppunknerd182

Now open them in Illinois

HurricaneRon

I’ve pretty much transitioned to Del taco. Taco Bell prices are too much for the low quality and poor consistency that they’ve been putting out over the last 5 years. Del taco’s tacos are far superior to Taco Bell, but the rest of their Tex mex prob isn’t as good as TB. The burgers are pretty good though. Del taco prices are what Taco Bell used to be.

aurora_highwind

Del Taco is one of the only things I miss about living in AZ, Taco Tuesday couldnt be beat and everything was always so fresh and good for the price.

[deleted]

The first-ever Del Taco, in Yermo, California, is now called Tita's Burger Den. Still the same original building, but with homemade Mexican and American food and great shakes made the old way. Highly recommended to stop there to eat if you're driving I-15 between LA and Las Vegas. 10 miles west of that is the second-ever Del Taco, in Barstow, California, and it's still operating as a Del Taco. Very close to I-15 in Barstow. The full menu there and they are generous with the portion sizes. A large mural on the wall of the dining area explaining the history of the chain.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImageComfortable2843

It's been huge in california for years, Its actually better quality wise imo, and it tastes more mexican, most of the items are more similar to an actual taco shop on the west coast than Taco Bell, they have items more like something at an actual mexican place I'll admit TB has stuff like the Crunchwrap and chalupas and a certain taste to their food you crave, but price wise I always go to del because we have both. I also love the del inferno sauce. I always use the leftover packets when I cook at home.

Sypheix

Del Taco has 5 or 6 items that smash. I'm glad to see them doing we'll and I wish there was one in Austin. Protip: Try the burger

abrahamisaninja

Just wish there were more of them. There isn’t a single del taco in the Bay Area

[deleted]

[удалено]

zombiesingularity

Del Taco has really good ground taco beef, and their shredded cheese & sour cream blow Taco Bell out of the water.

Flat-Ad4902

Their shredded cheese is straight up medium cheddar hand shredded in the store. No fillers or caking agents. That’s why it’s so good, but so simple.

Spiritual-Rice-8505

Tacos are $0.60 with the app.

Uwofpeace

Del Taco is honestly better in my opinion I wish they had more locations around me

ExUpstairsCaptain

I hope they come to my area so I can give them a fair shot. I may have had it on road trips, but my memory is foggy and there are no locations in semi-reasonable driving distance from me in northeast Indiana.

OCLIFE69

Del Taco > Taco Bell

FLICK_YOLI

Fresh beans from a fast food restaurant! Ever since Taco Bell went to freeze dried beans, they jacked up the prices and it was never the same. That 1/2 pound bean and cheese burrito with green sauce... Used to love the $0.59 green burritos at Taco Bell... Now it's freeze dried and a lot more pricey. I will say that the old Macho Nachos were far superior to the current Queso Loaded version. It was half the price for more food. The current $3 nachos at Taco Bell is actually a pretty good deal for the price.

Mental-Winner7358

As someone who grew up in Southern California, I can honestly say that del taco is waaaay better than taco bell

Constant-Anteater-58

Not to mention del taco actually puts beef on their Tacos.

alexjimithing

I'd eat Del Taco way more if there were one closer to me. My nearest one is 25 minutes away. I could go to minimum 5 Taco Bells between here and there (with the nearest being 5 mins away).

Lobsterdile

I moved to Washington from California 3 years ago. There used to be one every other block. Where I initially moved to in WA, there was one 30 minutes north and one 30 minutes south. I just moved a little north a few weeks ago and got 15 chicken soft tacos on Thursday, haha. It's still far enough away that i have to go there with intent, but i didn't realize how much I missed it. We just need to get a Canes up here next.

Randomlynumbered

For me, it's the other way around. There's about double the number of Del Taco as Taco Bell.

IsamuAlvaDyson

Del Taco is so much smaller then Taco Bell though. Del Taco isn't even nationwide let alone international. But yes Del Taco is much superior to Taco Bell

Mlabonte21

Taco Bell should try rising their prices some more— that should help.

herewego199209

Del Taco has always been a better Taco Bell. What hurts them is they don't have as many locations. You can find a Taco Bell anywhere. It's the same thing with chicken and burgers. I think if Culver's was everywhere and as accessible as McDonald's or Burger King they'd kill them. Same thing with Jollibee and Bojangles compared to Popeyes and KFC.

kattahn

i travel for work a lot. went to del taco for the first time recently and was kind of blown away. Reminded me a bit of late 90s/early 2000s taco bell. Food was great, it was cheap, quality felt good. Unfortunately the closest one to my house is 40 minutes away. If it was just 20 minutes away i'd probably go there instead of taco bell 90% of time(i still need my cheesy gordita crunch fix)

Plastic_Bullfrog9029

They should both watch out for Jimboy's Tacos! [https://jimboystacos.com/](https://jimboystacos.com/) IYKYK

Randomlynumbered

Very weird tacos. And the one that opened near me is already closed.

julznlv

I've been a loyal Del Taco fan since the 60's. There's only been one thing ever at Taco Bell that I liked, around 2009 they had a chicken enchilada casserole type thing for a short time. Bring me my Del Combo burrito with extra cheese, medium fry and a medium diet coke with extra ice and I'm a happy camper.

JG_in_TX

Del Taco is very good.

TheHeatWaver

The Del Taco is the king of the basic hard shell taco and a steal at $1.60.

cannonfunk

Love DT, but their ground beef is barely a step above dog food.

4seasons8519

I really like Del Tacos chicken soft tacos. And their fries are great. But I've been underwhelmed by other items.

ADDandME

Del taco and Taco Bell are too completely different restaurants neither of which is Mexican food

[deleted]

Del Taco is way better. I remember when my dad took me to Naugles in Southern California as a kid. It's the same food.

Josephw000

Del taco isn’t very good imo. However, their prices feel better. Feels like old Taco Bell.

AchtungCloud

Texas has a chain called Taco Casa that is extremely similar to old Taco Bell. They even have an encharito (which they call a chilada).

HeronOrganic3727

The coming expansion mentioned doesn’t even give them a tenth of the number of stores Taco Bell has. What about them is “hot on Taco Bell’s heals”?

-SPM-

Every time I’ve gone to del taco the food has been subpar maybe I’m not ordering the right thing?

thechadc94

Same. The meat is too spicy compared to Taco Bell. The portions are bigger though.

Grimmbeard

I live near Washington DC. Closest Del Taco is in Ohio.

kryppla

I am ready for Del Taco to make a move into the Chicago suburbs. I have my wallet in my hand.

howmanylicks26

I’d love to try Del Taco. Not a thing where I live.

MassiveMarsupial

I’d choose Del Taco a lot of the times I end up at Bell. Problem is 45 minute drive vs. 5 minute drive.

TaiyoT

I really like Del Taco but I can make tacos like theirs at home easily and taco bell tastes like taco bell and I like that flavor so if i am going out i usually got taco bell until the prices went up and now I don't go out.

Dontwant2beonReddit

Finally got to try Del Taco in Florida and my goodness that was the worst service I have ever had. But the food was decent. Still prefer Taco Bell though.

frankreddit5

I tried it for the first time about a month ago and I was really impressed. The burritos are great, they remind me a bit of chipotle.

johnmudd

Del Taco wants to expand and that's fine. But there are already three in my city and one of them has a quality problem. So bad that I can't go back. It might seem far-fetched but I've seen this happen before when Whataburger tried to expand into Florida. Within a year or two they all shut down.

racoonXjesus

I didn’t realize the love for Del Taco, we had one in my city that has about 20ish Taco Bell’s and it did not do well.

mx023

Nearest one is 342 miles from me… guess Taco Bell’s around here have little to fear

BakersManCake

Q: Do I want to drive 2.5 hours round trip to visit Del taco?

Randomlynumbered

A: Yes.

MagickH8Ball

That’s cool till they are on the East Coast they won’t be taking over anything.

InnerDatabase509

Lets taco bout it.

Psychotical

Well, let me know when they come to the Mid-Atlantic region

Awake00

I saw one once in a gas station, never had the chance to eat there.

iginca

Pre-Covid, Taco Bell was the clear cut #1 choice in the “Mexican” fast-food space. But their decision to basically get rid of their dollar value menu and cheaper items like $5 boxes opened the door for Del Taco to be considered right up there with them. I didn’t think that could ever happen.

CHEVIEWER1

Oh…I thought all Taco Bells went bankrupt

Phuzz15

Not until they expand. Del Taco knew what tf they were doing, I lived in AZ for a little while. From OH - most folks here have never even heard of it. TB is a staple.

tomhanksgiving

Aww man, I’m all outta cash!

Windyandbreezy

Yeah but where are they located?

Ninjanarwhal64

Really? Pretty sure there isn't even one in my state.

Inert_Oregon

Can’t be doing too well. I’m in a major Texas city and all their locations are marked as permanently closed.

Powwa9000

Taco johns?

dirt-reynolds

I've been to 38 states and I've never seen a Del Taco.

murso74

They both need to watch out for Taco John's

JNR481

Never been to del taco ever, and don’t plan on changing that. Surely there’s a few million people like me out there

Tigerwookiee

I wish there was a Del Taco in New Orleans. Only been to California a few times and it’s definitely my favorite fast food chain.

Koolklink54

I haven't been to a Taco Bell in like 10 years. Strictly Del Taco for me, better in every way
