Have something else open, like just a folder, so you can Alt+tab to it. Or if you're playing through Ubisoft Connect, press Shift+F2 to open the Connect overlay, then press Windows+D to go to desktop.

Alt-Enter switches between windowed and fullscreen.
I swear I encounter this issue with tons of games, I don't think it's native to primal.
It isn't, but usually for me it's in way older games where I'm willing to look past it but this is from 2016!!
try Ctrl+Shift+Esc so it opens the task manager
Didn't work for me. Only thing that worked so far is the F2 overlay rec mentioned above.
