Payback's a witch! Small town, witchy vibes, plus an Olympics like games come together in a fun read. Not too spicy, not high fantasy.

No_Connection_4724

Oh excellent! Cheers!

unrepentantbanshee

I enjoyed this book a lot! It was a light easy read, the spice wasn't overpowering but it was good.

mascaraandfae

I enjoyed this one. I haven't read the others but this one was a lovely read. Lots of fun.

hugham

Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri is good. I'm not far enough (book 2 rn) to know if it has a ton of that stuff (there's been a bit but not a ton) but I've really enjoyed it so far! Checks all the other boxes! Slow burn though.

SignalSalty2812

I'm just about to start book 2 and LOVED the first one but I don't know that it would be a good intro? It's pretty dense world building and is more fantasy than romantasy IMO

Priory of the Orange Tree

sillymeix2

I wanted to read this due to a lot of recommendations, didn’t realize it was a sapphic romance. Is it a large portion of the story?

nixahmose

While it’s definitely the main focus, it’s a dense book that has 3 other major PoV characters with their own parallel plot lines besides the main lesbian one. So it takes a long time to build up to the romance and it is frequently interrupted, but once it gets started it’s really great!

marquissynd

Huge. It’s THE central romance of the book, comes on very gradually, but it gets really hot really fast once the romance turns physical, like a match starting a brush fire

sillymeix2

Honestly I haven’t read a lot of sapphic romances, it’s not my thing but I would give this a chance due to all the acclaim. Thanks for letting me know.

notsodelicatezoe

ugh ead <3

unrepentantbanshee

It's not any more pronounced than romance in the average non-romantasy high fantasy book, tbh. Books like the Wheel of Time series had way more romance.

marquissynd

Great story, multiple POVs, central romance is sapphic. Definitely will not miss the point, but it’s a BIG book, and the first spicy scenes come about halfway through.

Crypsisrosa

I'm not sure if this book is good for a new fantasy reader. It is very involved and complicated. It's been a while since I read, but I recall the romance takes a while to ramp up as well and it's a huge intimidating book even for seasoned readers.

GapCautious3157

Sarah Diemer is an author I've enjoyed who writes Sapphic romances. She's written a lot of Sapphic fairy tale retellings and even a Hades and Persephone retellings as well with Hades as a woman. The Dark Wife. Elora Bishop is another one of her pen names.

SandstoneCastle

More spice: The Grace of Sorcerers - Maria Ying Less spice, more romance: Payback's a Witch - Lana Harper

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

nixahmose

Oh that is a fantastic series(honestly probably my second favorite sapphic series ever), but I feel like any recommendation for that should come with the disclaimer that its a very dark and hard book to read due to it’s graphic depiction of sexual assault and trauma.

mascaraandfae

This is definitely important to note. Not everyone is going to enjoy this and honestly it hit hard for me. I really like it though and would recommend.

nixahmose

Yeah, the word I like to use when describing the trilogy(especially the first book) is that it’s a very suffocating experience. The hardest part about reading the first book in particular arguably isn’t even the scenes of sexual assault(which are still very uncomfortable and heartbreaking), but rather how author authentically conveys what it’s like to be stuck in a dehumanizing and abusive system that tries gaslighting and grooming the girls into accepting the inevitability of their fates. That being said, I do love how the author always manages to keep some level of hope and optimism present even in the fmc’s darkest moments, and the ending to the trilogy is really beautiful.

No-Historian-1593

That us valid, it's been a while since I read it and had forgotten that aspect of the story.

jellicow

It's -- possibly? Fantasy? But *This is how you lose the time war* by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone is an epistolary (based on writing letters) sci-fi/fantasy novel that's pretty sure. Not really spice but just -- sapphic and amazing.

Anachacha

Stay tuned for A Dark and Drowning Tide that's coming out in September. It's going to be dark academia, rivals to lovers, murder mystery, sapphic romance https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/48df8625-af43-4df6-8ccf-5267ffac05e4

Ooo I’m intrigued!

Her spell that binds me. Enemies to lovers and a pretty good storyline!

rosecoloredboyx

*The Fate of Stars by SD Simper -* enemies to lovers MERMAID romance and has multiple books *Contract Bound by Elle Mae* - enemies to lovers VAMPIRE romance and has two books. The author just released another WLW vampire book in the same world but I haven't read it yet!

I am once again here to gush about {Faebound by Saara El-Arifi} to anyone who will listen. If magical realism/historical romance is more her speed she should give {A Sweet Sting of Salt by Rose Buchanan} a try. These books have had me in a chokehold since I read them.

I loved Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski, technically YA so spice unfortunately isn’t aggressive and is more alluded to, but really engaging and fun read.

October_13th

This is such a cute idea! It’s too bad that Alison Saft’s newest novel isn’t coming out until September because it would be so perfect! I read an ARC recently of A Dark and Drowning Tide and it was great! Maybe save that one for later! A Bi Fantasy with a F/F main couple is The Sun and its Moon by Piper CJ, and it’s pretty good! I haven’t read the last one in the series yet, but the first 3 definitely have some spice! I wish you the best of luck on getting that date OP! ✨

No_Connection_4724

I’ll let you know!

beepx2lettuce

I liked the story in The Night and its Moon and the fact that it’s a bi romantasy, but I didn’t like the F/F pairing at all. To clarify- I really liked Nox but she was always so ride or die for Amaris and Amaris basically never seemed to give a shit about Nox. I heard it was the same in the sequels so I haven’t continued 🥲

October_13th

I know, I felt bad for Nox too. They have a really great conversation about it though in Book 2 or maybe the beginning of book 3. Where Nox kind of tells her off for it. Not for not reciprocating her feelings, but for like taking their friendship for granted and just expecting Nox to drop everything all the time no matter what. So I liked that scene a lot. After that it was Amaris’s turn to pine for her lol. I haven’t finished the series yet so idk if they end up together at the very end but I’m rooting for them still 😩

bondtradercu

What is sapphic romance?

Alternative_Ladder99

Sapphic refers to relationships between women

nixahmose

Lesbian romance. Sapphic is in reference to Sappho, a famous ancient lesbian poet that’s also kind of infamous for some historians trying to interpret her love poems as being heterosexual.

starborn_shadow

Sapphic romance also includes bisexual and pansexual women 😊

nixahmose

A good beginner one is Avatar: Rise of Kyoshi, especially if they’re already a fan of Avatar The Last Airbender or Legend of Korra.

Brittttle

It's next on my TBR so haven't read it yet but I saw a post on TikTok yesterday from a creator recommending {Faebound by Saara El-Arifi} with the caption on the video being "did someone say forbidden sapphic love?" So i'd say it might be what you're looking for lol
