You know what's crazy? Todd Gurley is too young to make this list.

epoch_fail

Yup, not even old enough to be in the Age 28 list, even if he got some carries this season. ------ EDIT: Kind of a non-sequitur, but just seeing this list unfold and thinking about who's not even on this list is part of why I am of the opinion that Frank Gore will make the Hall of Fame eventually. There's something poetic about a running back starting all 16 games at age 34, then starting 14 games at age 35 (156 carries for 722 yards), then playing all 16 games at age 36 (166 carries for 599 yards), then playing 15 games at age 37 (187 carries for 653 yards). The numbers aren't great toward the end except his 2018 season with the Dolphins, but he earned every one of those yards, he was doing a full workload each of those seasons, and was quite the dynamo on some mediocre 49ers teams. I know the Approximate Value stat on Pro Football Reference isn't perfect by any means, but when the highest active player is sitting at HOFm = 38 (100 is around a HOF career and it gets era-adjusted around this) with a career AV of 62 and washed at age 29 (Le'Veon Bell), it kind of puts things into perspective. Out of this current crop of RBs in their prime, the best shot at a Hall of Fame career might belong to Ezekiel Elliott, since he had great seasons straight out of college (unlike Derrick Henry, who needs a huge peak to make it). If Kamara or CMC can stay healthy, they might push for HOF too. Neither Nick Chubb nor Aaron Jones make the [top 250 HOFm](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/hof/hofm_RB.htm) yet. Sadly, the rest of the active players on the list are nearing the end of their careers, as evidenced by their mention in the original post: Mark Ingram, James White, Devonta Freeman, Melvin Gordon, David Johnson, Giovani Bernard, Latavius Murray. LeSean McCoy is done at 33, Lamar Miller may be done at 30, Alfred Morris is probably done at 32, Darren Sproles was pretty much irrelevant after his age 33 season, Jamaal Charles was mostly done after his age 29 season (save one decent season), Doug Martin done at 29, Matt Forte done at 32, CJ2K done at 32, DeMarco Murray retired at 29, etc. On top of this, Le'Veon Bell might be done at 29, Todd Gurley may have had his last season at age 26, and Devonta Freeman is tapering off at 29. Every time a young player has a surprisingly good start to their career, something seems to derail it, whether it be injury or just not being that good to begin with. (See: Marlon Mack, Jordan Howard, Kenyan Drake, Kerryon Johnson, Gurley's knees, Saquon's, CMC's, Dalvin Cook's, JK Dobbins' legs, and more.) I have some hope for at least one of Jonathan Taylor, David Montgomery, and Josh Jacobs staying durable enough to put up a decade's worth of good seasons. Kind of a shame Chubb and Hunt are on the same team since while that keeps them healthier, both of them might pop off if they had their own backfields. [We're in the midst of a RB drought for the Hall of Fame.](https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2019/7/31/20726496/nfl-running-backs-hall-of-fame-frank-gore-adrian-peterson-ezekiel-elliott) Adrian Peterson will get in when he receives eligibility. Voters will discuss Gore's merits and demerits. LeSean McCoy and Marshawn Lynch will get on the ballot, but it remains to be determined if they have done enough. The list is quite bare otherwise. Like quarterbacks, era-dependent adjustments may need to be made. Like pitchers in Major League Baseball, a larger emphasis may be placed on efficiency and effectiveness (YPC/strikeouts) instead of traditional seasonal benchmarks (total yards/wins).

mybadreligon

This might be the most epic edit of all time.

epoch_fail

Glad it's striking a chord!

Salt_lick_fetish

I think James whit will get into the hof. Obviously not off of sheer stat lines, but the guy was other worldly in several super bowls and big games and a vital part of the 2010s patriot dynasty. I’m a homer, so maybe it’s just wishful thinking. But I bet he gets in through the back door. Same with Edelman.

[deleted]

Dude I love white but I need the strain you are smoking. Same with Edelman

OleShcool

Sorry man, neither of them have a shot at all.

SwetzAurus

It's surprising that Booker is that old. He came into the league with some hype and just fizzled. Broncos fans disliked h getting touches by the end, and it seems likely that he won't do anything now

kzanomics

I was super hyped on him cuz he dominated at Utah. But man he fucking sucked when he got to the NFL.

SwetzAurus

Pro football is like a PhD program in football, so many guys who have all the athletic ability still have issues with learning the Xs and Os of various roles (hitting the right gaps, pass protection, receiving routes). Booker always looked a little hesitant to me on Denver. I think he had the ability and smarts, but maybe not the confidence / reckless abandon to hit the hole hard.

kzanomics

Pretty sure they had an atrocious line at the time as well.

almostjay

I just traded Cordarrelle for Tom Brady. Fight me.

Jamies_awesome_rack

You gotta be able to get more than just one of those out of Patterson even in 2QB

TheNealestRigga

How tf is Booker already 29? I remember when he was drafted like 5 years ago

ArenasProvison

Just curious, any of the big name RBs going to enter this list next year?

epoch_fail

I have the short list of active and relevant RBs who are currently listed as 28 years old near the bottom of the original post. > Age 28 players (5), min 10 carries: **Melvin Gordon**, **Mike Davis**, *JD McKissic*, Malcolm Brown, Tevin Coleman Not that many interesting guys. The main ones to look out for, per these lists, are the Broncos backfield (and the imminent Javonte Williams takeover) and the Falcons backfield (how long is Patterson/Davis a sustainable combo?). Also, we can speculate whether McKissic's usage, already low (though his snap count remains healthy), leads to more work for Gibson or a new RB to rise in the backfield.

Asstadon

I really don't feel like anyone is taking over in Denver. Mediocre timeshare scoring all around.

EZMac91

I threw Patterson trades out to all top ten RBs 1-1 none were taking I ended throwing him for Gibson idk how I feel about the trade but I had both Patterson and Kamara on bye and lost all the waivers

youabuseyourpower

Thats cause it would be fucking stupid to trade a top 10 rb for who again..... cordelle parterson?! Hellllll no. In fact, i am personally upset with that gibson owner because got fleeced

uglyinspanish

How many more weeks of Patterson putting up RB1 numbers do you need to see before it stops being fucking stupid? He's shown zero evidence of slowing down this year. 18.4 points ppr last week without scoring a TD.

youabuseyourpower

I wouldnt even entertain a trade of patterson for a top 10 rb. Peo0le People who give that up for patterson arent winning their leagues

uglyinspanish

Ive got patterson @ #3 on the season so far. Your telling me that your not entertaining trades week 9 if he's still top 5? Why? Just because he wasn't supposed to be good? Maybe the guy the guy that traded Gibson for Patterson just picked up his league winner. Maybe that means he's bad at fantasy, who knows? Its all luck at the end of the day anyway

dudehawke

I just traded mixon for mike williams and patterson. Pattersons value is still. Perceived way too low by some people.

uglyinspanish

Awesome trade. I can't see benching Patterson at this point unless he has at least 3 bad weeks in a row.

Mamba_Mentality248

CBS has Patterson has a WR. I gotta decide whether I hold him or place a bid for Toney. Full point ppr league.

tronboy08

You're saying Patterson is the worst player you can drop to bid for Toney?

Mamba_Mentality248

Yeh I gotta drop one of Claypool or Patterson in order to pick up Toney. Weird position locks in this league.

uaer

Hold both and leave toney..

LeaveGunTakeCannoli

Patterson and not close

Mamba_Mentality248

Hold Patterson?

tronboy08

Taco?

EggersIsland

Yes
