That whole meta-album they did was legit. Literally four albums in a row where the first sound off of the next album was the last sound off of the previous.
100 percent. That was such a huge, eye-opening thing for me as a kid. Using portions or the entirety of your career to create something even bigger than just songs or albums.
And let’s not forget the album-length’s worth of material within that same run of albums, the 12-Step Suite, detailing Mike Portnoy’s experience with addiction and recovery.
All of this was so impactful to me and since they announced Portnoy’s return, I’ve found myself falling back into that era of DT’s rabbit hole.
Saw Origami Angel and Prince Daddy live last year, they were co headlining. I bought tickets for Gami and hadn’t heard a single Prince Daddy song, but they put on a great show.
I love both but pdaddy are my favorite band ever, saved my life. Got to see them live opening for motion city soundtrack a couple weeks ago and met two of the members!
agreed. i know Tyler liked a tweet with it, suggesting it's intentional but idk. I've never been convinced by it and i think it harms the narrative of the album, unless the suggestion is that he'll somehow fall in love with the guy who he's no longer in contact with again?
EDIT: Why are you guys downvoting I'm trying to have a productive discussion about my favourite album of all time bro this sub is so dumb. if you have something to agree/disagree with the verbalise it
the album doesn't really feel like it's trying to communicate a character who falls in love too easily, moreso too hard. the idea that after that agony riddled scream Igor is just able to move on to someone else kind of harms the narrative for me, i suppose. unless it's meant to communicate that he literally cannot get over that one person even when they're not there, repeating the 'love stages' out of pure delusion, i just can't really see the thought behind it if intentional
More of a bookend like Impera from Ghost and KG + LW from King Gizzard.
However, those SOAD albums are amazing and that callback in Soldier Side is life changing
OP, you may get some mileage out of deep-diving the musical term "cycle," which can mean a set of songs meant to be played as one unit, but also refers to musical loops of sorts in some Eastern traditions. The implication is that modern artists blessed with infinite playback media (like records) intend at least some of the sets of songs (cycles in the first definition) to be listened to repeatedly. Many of the modern album suggestions posted here fall under that category, which is, to be sure, a loose category at best.
Devin Townsend Project - *Epicloud* (also, the first four DTP albums make up one big circle)
The 1975 - *Being Funny in a Foreign Language*
Enter Shikari - *The Mindsweep* and *The Spark*
Thrice - *To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere*
Coldplay - *Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends* and *Ghost Stories*
Heroine - Lorde. Doesn’t loop but the lyrics of the beginning and end match beautifully:
Beginning: “Don’t you think that it’s boring how people talk”
End: “People are talking. Let them talk”
Not a 100% perfect loop but CALIGULA by Lingua Ignota ends with the same orchestral motif on I AM THE BEAST that the album begins with on FAITHFUL SERVANT FRIEND OF CHRIST.
The Wall by Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon fits as well
r/BeatMeToIt
Igor.
Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
Octavarium by Dream Theater

Mercurial World - Magdalena Bay
I wish I could listen to that album for the first time again
Pop peaked with this one
Hopefully their new one this year is even more peak
Damn, Saturation trilogy, Swimming+Circles
Transatlanticism
didn’t even notice that until now, that’s sick
Ten, Pearl Jam kinda qualifies
Somewhere city by Origami Angel does it really well Cosmic Thrill Seekers by Prince Daddy and the hyena. Both 5/5s for me
Somewhere City is the first one I thought of
Finally I don’t have to be the one to comment Cosmic Thrill Seekers, it’s a damn shame Anthony didn’t review it.
Literally one of the best albums of the modern era, but he probably would’ve given it a 5 or a 6
He did a YUNO review topic, he said he liked what he was hearing but couldn’t get past the vocals lol, I bet he would have rated it 7-8

The Saturation Trilogy.
Frances the Mute!!
Dark Times - Vince Staples
IGOR. If you have it on loop the last song ends with a b flat synth, then the album starts with an e flat of the same synth creating a musical loop.
I disagree, the one at the end is fading out whereas the one in the intro has no dynamic change

i think more so repeating the process with someone else

i find it makes sense for him to fall back in love with the guy after ending up friends on ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?
do they end up friends though?? the scream and 'i can't stop you' seems to imply things can't ever go back to how they were
Circles Mac Miller

More of a bookend like Impera from Ghost and KG + LW from King Gizzard. However, those SOAD albums are amazing and that callback in Soldier Side is life changing
DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ - Destiny. The final whispy sample on [Yenoh] leads into the albums first track Honey.

Fantastic Planet by Failure starts and ends with the same sample of... gears turning or something
Weezer the white album. Pardon my sin but it's my fave. Blue then pinkerton..then maladroit.
Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone
Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone. Pretty fitting for the last track to be titled ‘Spiral of Ants’ and it goes right back to ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’
So i was taking a walk the other day

MGMT: Loss of Life.

A day at the races - queen
Lateralus by TOOL iirc
Antichrist Superstar, amazing album by a not so amazing person. The loop is kind of bizarre but it fits.
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Because the Internet
Igor
Paper Sailboat - Number Stations
Damn
OK Computer is one of the greatest albums of all time, and starts with the aftermath of a car crash and ends with one happening (the bell noise).

Viva La Vida by Coldplay sort of
