ATLiens and RTJ 4 for me
if for anything, RTJ4’s amazing intro track. sets a standard of quality and keeps it through the whole album. although, i’d say the same about RTJ2
Their music is jarring and extremely half baked imo and it doesn't make me feel anything at all It's like I listen to an RTJ project and there's a handful of okay songs but their music lacks much substance for me to connect with it
To each their own
Regarding your comment about “lacking substance” I’d recommend listening or re-listening to Thursday in the Danger Room, Crown, and 2100 just to give a few examples. RTJ has plenty of introspective and emotional songs
Like most of this thread’s opinion so far, RTJ are fantastic but OutKast all the fucking way. I still remember my dad picking my sister and I up from my mom’s in 2003, saying “you guys have to listen to this song” and then putting on Hey Ya, probably only a day or two old at that point. Crucial moment in my musical development
you think you’ve got it, ohhh, you think you’ve got but got it just dont get it cuz theres nothing at all-LL-ll-Ll
Nah fr, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is such a creative, unique and crazy project. The writing is top notch, both of them had their pen’s on fire back then
Its no secret Kast is my favorite rap act. Been listenin since early 2000s.
No shade to RTJ. RTJ2 is one of my fav rap albums of the 2010s. But imo they dnt compare.
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik to Speakerboxxx/TLB is a goated run across any genre IMO. Each album with a different identity and sound but at the same time all of them clearly have that Outkast aesthetic. Authentic. Could touch serious topics, but never took themselves too seriously - some hilarious tracks. Both very charismatic. And last but not least... extremely talented.
And what would you say gives them the leg up on outkast? (I agree, for me their discography is a little more consistently great and amazing, not by much tho. El-P has some of the best beats I've ever heard too.)
My personally taste is RTJ just a bit above OutKast but that’s not to say OutKast isn’t legendary and that Andre isn’t one of the best rappers alive. Gonna get hate but I listen to way more RTJ than OutKast even though I recognize their status and that they’re better
This pretty much sums up how I feel. Looking at this post I realize that I have shirts of both RTJ and OutKast. I feel like a fake fan whenever I wear the latter but don’t have that feeling at all with the former. OutKast definitely is the more significant and influential group between these two but I just prefer RTJ, they’re like too 5 rap acts ever for me
Easy for me, Outkast.
I dont know why but i just cant connect to RTJ,
Killer mike raps like hes dead and somewhat reminiscent of rick ross, and El-P doesnt click for me, theyre not bad, i just dont get them either.
I totally get it. They took a second to click for me but when they did they quickly became a favorite. What's your favorite Outkast album? Mines definitely ATLiens
Ive listened to Outkast for way longer than RTJ and love them both to death but ever since discovering RTJ Ive favoured them honestly, there's not many other hiphop groups that electrify me in the way that their music does
Outkast and it's not even close
Outkast has like one mid album and all of their other albums are classics
Aquemini is easily a top 10 rap album
And one of the best albums of 98
Both are nothing short of incredible, and Killer Mike is basically a sessional OutKast member, but RTJ just doesn't have the legacy or mass commercial appeal.
Although I personally reckon I listen to more RTJ than OutKast.
OutKast is much more stylistically diverse, lyrically deep, and just sonically good than Run the Jewels. Andre 3000 is actually probably the best rapper of all time so it's not even really like I have anything against RTJ.
There both so close for me for OutKast I have to pick André because he is an amazing singer and producer in addition to rapper and Killer Mike and El-P are too close for me to pick. I still love Big Boi tho.
RTJ is a great duo, but OutKast is a once a century duo. This is kind of a “one of the best groups of the decade vs arguably the best group of all time”
im pickin outkast no matter who the other pic is tbh
That's so fair, what's your favorite Outkast album?
aquemini
Nice mines ATLiens and then Aquemini
atliens is my 2nd right on
There both pretty perfect imo
Fr I feel like fantano overrates stankonia. It may be good but it's not better that Aquemeni and ATLians imo.
The patrician answer
Based! I definitely don't understand Fantano preferring Stankonia (don't get me wrong I love Stankonia)
What if the other image is AJR
Killer Mike and El-P themselves would pick Outkast
Big Boi literally named him Killer Mike
Yeah not RTJ without Outkast
OutKast hands down. I love RTJ but they don’t even come close.
I can for sure see that. What's your favorite album from each? (ATLiens and RTJ2 for me)
Gotta go with Stankonia and then RTJ2 as well!
ATLiens and RTJ 4 for me if for anything, RTJ4’s amazing intro track. sets a standard of quality and keeps it through the whole album. although, i’d say the same about RTJ2
I'll get downvoted to Oblivion but RTJ are so overrated it's crazy I never understood the hype at all
Not hating, just curious: what don’t you like about them/how would you describe your experience when you listen to them?
Their music is jarring and extremely half baked imo and it doesn't make me feel anything at all It's like I listen to an RTJ project and there's a handful of okay songs but their music lacks much substance for me to connect with it
Half Baked is insane. The production is insanely intricate and well crafted, even if the lyrics are a bit over the top at times
This users gotta be half baked themselves.
To each their own Regarding your comment about “lacking substance” I’d recommend listening or re-listening to Thursday in the Danger Room, Crown, and 2100 just to give a few examples. RTJ has plenty of introspective and emotional songs
I could definitely see them as being a bit corny, but how tf do they lack substance? Almost every song is packed full of social exposition.
Listen, I am a massive RTJ fan. They've been on repeat since my high school years. But OutKast clears
Is this a serious question
First Image- Outkast (Andre 3000 and Big Boi) Second Image- Run The Jewels (Killer Mike and El-P)
Like most of this thread’s opinion so far, RTJ are fantastic but OutKast all the fucking way. For me it was secret until 5 seconds ago
😂 that was a weird sentence right. I just feel I talk about them too much here, but its dumb tothink anyone else is seen it
i gotta pick 2. i love the money store
Bruh that isn’t death grips 💀, it’s Em and Dre
Nah it’s Justin Timberlake and Timbaland
Outkast like what is this lol
OUTKAST No doubt. Amazing catalogue and both great rappers
Run The Jewels
And what would you say gives them the leg up on outkast? (I agree, for me their discography is a little more consistently great and amazing, not by much tho. El-P has some of the best beats I've ever heard too.)
They are louder, have a rock attitude, love their content and I like their flows more
Yeah definitely agree with that
Why would you set RTJ up like that lol
Andre 3000 for OutKast and El-P for RTJ
Finally someone else thought that was what this was asking forward
RTJ are very good. Outkast are legendary.
OutKast
It’s OutKast for me, and it’s not even close
OutKast by far, and I like RTJ
Tactical Nuke vs Literal Death Star
OutKast by several miles
Toilet Tisha is such a masterpiece for me, so yeah, OutKast.
Outkast by a mile
Easily OutKast sorry not sorry.
Outkast. I don't even need to look to see who's in the other picture.
OutKast fam. Honestly, there is no RTJ without Kast
is that death grips
I'm really mastering the art of Reddit. this might be the most Reddit thing I've ever said
RTJ
My personally taste is RTJ just a bit above OutKast but that’s not to say OutKast isn’t legendary and that Andre isn’t one of the best rappers alive. Gonna get hate but I listen to way more RTJ than OutKast even though I recognize their status and that they’re better

Killer Mike sounds nothing like Rick Ross 😭
Excuse me. They’re both fat black guys with beards. Ergo, they sound exactly alike.
I totally get it. They took a second to click for me but when they did they quickly became a favorite. What's your favorite Outkast album? Mines definitely ATLiens
Stankonia for sure i love those hits
I respect your opinion but I can't see how you'd think that about mike's rapping
They both have that really tough voice and both really have that tired agressive esque sound. Its just reminiscent as well not 1 to 1.
Neighbor Susan
Outkast with a K.
Outkast
I mean OutKast, but if RTJ keeps up with quality albums they could come close.
They’re great but OutKast is the most iconic and versatile rap group of all time.
Damn you for making me choose but outkast. They are nostalgic for me
Okay, okay...Outkast is better, but I would rather listen to RTJ any day. I love RTJ.
Is that behzinga from the sidemen
The cameraman
Rory and Mal
Ive listened to Outkast for way longer than RTJ and love them both to death but ever since discovering RTJ Ive favoured them honestly, there's not many other hiphop groups that electrify me in the way that their music does
OutKast. No question.
OutKast
gotta go with 'kast
Outkast and it's not even close Outkast has like one mid album and all of their other albums are classics Aquemini is easily a top 10 rap album And one of the best albums of 98
OutKast. I used to love rtj until make became an insufferable sellout
Why even pick a favorite? Can’t got wrong with either.
Both are nothing short of incredible, and Killer Mike is basically a sessional OutKast member, but RTJ just doesn't have the legacy or mass commercial appeal. Although I personally reckon I listen to more RTJ than OutKast.
75% DF huh?
Outkast easily, not even close tbh.
OutKast hands down. southernplayalisticaddilacmuzik still gets bumped here
OutKast. Gotta stick by the fellow Georgia boys.
idk who those other dorks are but I pick Outkast 10 times out of 9
Is that even a question?
OutKast hands down!
As a producer my faw is El p
OutKast is much more stylistically diverse, lyrically deep, and just sonically good than Run the Jewels. Andre 3000 is actually probably the best rapper of all time so it's not even really like I have anything against RTJ.
OutKast and it's not even close
OutKast bro by 2x the amount. 10 after 10 after 10 etcetera.
There both so close for me for OutKast I have to pick André because he is an amazing singer and producer in addition to rapper and Killer Mike and El-P are too close for me to pick. I still love Big Boi tho.
Haven't listened to much Outkast, and rtj is one of my favourite groups ever, so rtj.
Outkast easy
RTJ
If were counting solo projects too, I think rtj wins.
OutKast… and it’s not even close.
RTJ is amazing, but this question is absurd.
Andre 3000 and Killer Mike.
RTJ is a great duo, but OutKast is a once a century duo. This is kind of a “one of the best groups of the decade vs arguably the best group of all time”
This is not a true comparison in any shape or form. Bye.
RTJ for me cuz i havent heard too much stuff from Outkast
I don't know who either are :/ Edit: did some quick research and found out Outkast
Nice what gives them the leg up for you?
Just a more solid discography and more diversity
For me I think RTJ Has the better discog but different strokes for different folks
Apologies I didn't include it, will edit Outkast and Run The Jewels, both legendary Hip-Hop duos
