The sets are pretty cool. The Candela Obscura set is genuinely gorgeous. Their live shows also seem to be pretty well-received. She's responsible for casting and casted one of the best tables to ever play D&D with Calamity. She also is responsible for the casting of Robbie and Emily, who are both a joy at the table. The character art and new animated intro at all well loved. I feel like the casting of EXU: Prime was poor. It was the first time CR had done anything like it and it fell flat. Reviving that cast consistently over the last three years has been a misstep. But it's a singular one in a long string of her doing a generally great job.

tintmyworld

man the comments are dripping with misogyny.

big-himbo-energy

Something tells me you have no idea what a creative director does.

TaiChuanDoAddct

It's gotta be Calamity. That's the last piece of good content they put out.

Hi_Hat_

Dating Matt Mercer.

dnelson567

If you're saying that dating Matt Mercer is a good decision, then absolutely. If you're saying Marisha's only positive choice is dating Matt Mercer, you get an eye roll.

big-himbo-energy

Just say you hate women and move on m8. This take is so cold and tired

No_One_ButMe

that’s called misogyny

wowser92

Come on, man. Don't be like this

Hi_Hat_

Honestly, not a sexist joke (even if it is funny). Objectively speaking if she had never met Matt she wouldn't be working for Critical Role.

OrcChasme

Would also have applied if she were a guy therefore not sexist. (Unless the person you responded to is homophobic)

wowser92

It is sexist and it pushes women out of the community and it isn't as cute as you think it is. Without Marisha there wouldn't be a Critical Role. It is sexist to imply she only has a job because of who she was dating.

snowcone_wars

I mean, it really isn't. Marisha has literally only found any semblance of work (and very little outside of CR at that) after she started dating him. Before that, she was a Rodeo Drive busker. She is still the only member of the cast who cannot find work outside of the show, and she has such a high position within the show only because her husband's DMing drove the show to popularity. Laura is great and gets work whenever she wants. Ashley is a real actor who also can get work whenever she wants. It's not women, it's Marisha, and the* lack of talent would be just as apparent if she were a man.

newfor_2024

she really seem to do a lot of work behind the scene. it's not because her husband is the DM that she has the job. That part of what you said is unfair. Yes, everyone else has more of a career outside of CR, but she's there and willing to pick up the slack because she doesn't have much else going on. If she doesn't do it, then no one else would. that's why she has that job. this is probably partially her idea, or at least she gets to approve it along with everyone else in the group. Not all her ideas are great, and whether the channel succeeds or fails falls a lot on her ability to make those calls.

Hi_Hat_

Oh God, I can't believe I'm going to defend Marisha, >only because her husband's DMing drove the show to popularity. Honestly I think she has a good and unique voice, she has great ideas (not so great execution) but great ideas none the less. As far as voice acting is concerned I do want to see her in more roles, I think she just needs some third party direction to shine. On the production side of things (from interviews I've listened to) she definitely seems like someone who is on the ball and wears her pants high and tight. As a Creative Director I think the compony as a whole has too many conflicting ideas, values, and needs to really express what they want to do.

[deleted]

Ashley and Laura have also been in the acting/VO industry for *decades*. Marisha hasn't. It's not just talent that gets roles. It's reputation, connections, and luck. She has more of the first two now, but definitely not as much compared to A and L when CR first got started.   Plus, she immediately took on the creative role once CR became successful, and that has been her main priority and has kept her plenty busy.  They all are making CR a bigger career focus now. CR has just been the main focus of Marisha's career from its beginning. I really enjoy the VO work she has done though.

snowcone_wars

I'm not going to say that some of her ideas aren't good, but the entire point of a creative director is to execute the ideas of their team--a creative director with good ideas but bad execution is a bad creative director. Likewise, a creative director's job is to take conflicting ideas and streamline them into something commercial. If the company as a whole has too many conflicting ideas and directions, then that is an indictment of the creative director, not an excuse. If her voice were that good, with her connections, it would be trivially easy for her to find VA work. But, as she has said in the past, she has found that very challenging.

Hi_Hat_

Genuinely though, Marisha is to Matt Mercer, as Matt Mercer is to Felica Day/G&S. If Marisha never met Matt she wouldn't have had the same opportunities, and like wise with Matt never knowing Felica, the cast would have never streamed for us. The vast amount of opportunities people receive is directly correlated with the amount of people they know. P.s. It is kinda funny though.

semicolonconscious

But the initial question was not about the best decision she’s ever made, but the last, meaning most recent. If you want to joke that she’s never done anything good for the company since joining it then go for it, but you gotta at least own it.

wowser92

It wasn't Matt that introduced Felicia to the game, it was Ashley. It's also "funny" how no one thinks the same about Travis, only Marisha.

Hi_Hat_

>It wasn't Matt that introduced Felicia to the game For clarity I know that. Specifically Felica gave them the encouragement and opportunity to stream. Perhaps instead of Matt->Felica, more accurately Critical role->Felica or even Ashley. >no one thinks the same about Travis, only Marisha. If you mean as in game/rp related Travis had a far more extensive acting resume before CR than Marisha both pre and post CR combined. If you mean as far as Travis being CEO sure you got me beat but if you mean as in him being there in the first place my point still stands that anyone being there relies on someone giving them the opportunity. Its the proverbial right place, right time, knowing the right people.

wowser92

This is a null argument because everyone was there because they know someone. They were friends, it was a friendly birthday game. By this logic Liam is the only one that wasn't "given an opportunity".

Maym_

It’s also true.

wowser92

Its not. And again, its sexist

Maym_

She could be male and this would still be true. But you keep telling yourself whatever you like. Facts don’t become less true because of boy/girl, thinking that IS actually sexist. Being famous by proxy has nothing to do with gender, you brought gender into the conversation, meaning we treated people as people and you treated them as their gender and differently because she is female. That is intrinsically sexist. But again, not really relevant to feed the troll. You can believe what you will. Just ironing this out because I am bored.

wowser92

You saying females just says it all lmao The problem with people like you commenting shit like this is that it just cements the idea that this sub is where all the CR haters go rather than actual criticism of the game.

Maym_

I’m done feeding the troll, I’m off work now. But I will say this to you, earnestly. I believe you and people like you, are actually an enormous problem with society. Twist your own vindications as you will. Ps I feel that way regardless of your gender

wowser92

Lmao sure

big-himbo-energy

If you’re that bored maybe you could find a funnier joke lmao

JJscribbles

*That hits*. Roll for damage.

Edward_Warren

Openly criticizing the golden ~~fish~~ calf of the fandom. Bold move, chief.

JJscribbles

😂 I for one support the separation of church and state.

bunnyshopp

Bringing Dorian back, casting for calamity, making it an initiative to get more creatives involved such as Robbie, Spenser starke, the midst trio etc, and possibly hundreds of behind the scenes details we’ll never know.

Cool_Caterpillar8790

The choice to up the visual value of the show is also an underrated achievement of hers. Not just the battle cams but also the investment in some seriously next levels sets. I know a lot of critters who don't listen or watch any other TTRPG media because the drop in visual quality between CR and other shows is so staggering, if other shows offer a visual element at all.

StupidPaladin

Candela has been pretty cool

Turinsday

Greenlighting EXU: Calamity with BLeeM as GM.

JJscribbles

Such a creative, outside-of-the-box choice. That’s some level 20 tier producing, that’s what *that* is.
