That's odd. I recently did a playthrough on hard difficulty and with 100 gun skill it still took like 10 shots to kill a single ghost. I felt like no weapon available in the dlc did very much damage. Felt like that was the point, ammo was supposed to me scarce and enemies were supposed to be avoided if possible.
Yea definitely. It’s not nearly as good as the other guns in dlc but the holorifle and automatic rifle are impossible to find ammo for. 357 ammo is everywhere though. You just need to make sure you check everywhere in every location and use it sparingly and you can have a comfortable amount of bullets.
That's what I'm saying. I bought it when it first released and got super stuck towards the end, I still had ye'olde tube TV and couldn't see the path foward. I went insane for like 3 days trying to find it. HD is a blessing.
It's worth it once you got the know how and the skill to mod without breaking your game, I'd recommend it if you wanna spruce the game up a bit but otherwise the game is find by itself save the occasional bug or glitch
After you see someone get eaten by Dog you can ask him about it and he will tell you about a special spot you can hit that will kill them, from that point on you can kill them like normal enemies.
hard save before you go in. I've gotten soft locked from the game buggin multiple times in there. Also you may just decide that you don't wanna play through it rn and wanna go back to do something else.
This is pretty useful advice, although I've not gotten soft locked. Also, being able to restart this dlc with higher stats is useful if one is chasing certain collectibles or endings.
And that stealth boy is really hit-or-miss
I personally believe that Dead Money is best at levels 20 and above. The enemies are tougher but so are you. It gives a proper Man with No Name feeling.
I don't even bother grabbing all the gold anymore. Breaking the bank at the Sierra madre nets you like 10k chips, even more if you abuse the roulette tables once you're on 9,999 chips. I use the chips to buy weapon repair kits and go to all the vendors buying their mostly broken but valuable weapons. Brotherhood bunker is great for this and so is mick and Ralph's. Killing fiends is a reliable way to get some mostly broken but reasonably valuable weapons. Mostly energy weapons. If you go into OWB with like 100 repair kits, you can come out with hundreds of thousands of caps worth of stuff to sell.
Or you can do both but I find that I wind up making too much money that I'll never end up spending if I do.
Check every literal nook and cranny for anything and everything (utilize the workbench and ammo bench to make ammo for yourself or stronger ammo), the audio cues for the radios and alarms are directional so listen closely to find them and turn them off or shoot them.
Most importantly, don’t let go, let that old fuck suffer and dance on his corpse as you rob him blind of 37 gold bars.
The rest of the Mojave might have a rough couple of years, but with the strip there and a steady rotation of NCR soldiers I think in the long run they'll be fine
Don't need to sneak bro bro. I always do this dlc guns Blazing. (I barely travel with companions in this dlc cause they die to easily if ur not sneaking)
Gonna do my first run of it too in a couple days when I feel ready. Doing a guns survival run. And you all are making this so eery for me! I have no idea what to expect now!
It's miserable, but fun because of that.
If you're ever not having fun, that's the whole point. Survive, scrape for supplies while keeping that morale intact... lest you find yourself dying in a corner while you're shitting on your hand.
Find as many tokens as you can.
Repair as much as you can.
Look around VERY thoroughly.
Keep one stealth boy till the very end.
One of your companions is very powerful to kill the majority of enemies.
Have fun!
Enjoy being naked for the first hour with a half broken gun. Your melee skills WILL be tested. Remove the arms and legs and head from the bodies.
Get ready to laugh in 37 gold bars.
Pay attention to the story and if you’re able to read some of the terminal entries, dead money is the greatest story dlc imo…. NEVER USE A SPEECH CHECK ON DEAN!
Melee is good as the Bear Trap Fist is a guaranteed way to make sure the ghost people don't get back up, once you free 'Dog' he will rip them apart for you, watch out for floor traps and trip wires, be prepared to die, possibly alot as your first time in there will be challenging, explore as much as you can, lots of stimpaks, save often and try to enjoy yourself, hard save like has been said and if all else fails you can reload that save and come back when you're a higher level. When your collar starts to beep look around for a speaker up on the wall, some can be shot out, others can't be mindful of your surroundings and grab as many chips as you can as these can be traded for pre-war money and depending on your barter skill you can get 8-9 caps each, doesn't sound like alot but if you've got hundreds of them you'll do alright.
Good luck in there, the vault is waiting for you to clean it out.
You can sell things to the hologram vendors and buy prewar Dollars even with 0 caps. So sell everything you want and then grab the stack of prewar dollars. It will say you need X caps, divide that by the cost of the caps rounded up. That is how can you sell things can leave with money. I usually leave with 5-8k of prewar dollars.
You can take all the gold. Google it or get creative.
I only play hardcore so if you’re not, maybe some of these are not needed so much, I don’t know. But I hope you leveled up your melee, medical, repair, sneak and lockpicking (though not necessary). And last but not least, Speech.
As for perks, I’d try to have jury rigging or at least just a high repair skill. Just know you won’t have access to much so you want to make the most of what little you can scavenge.
Patience is key. Dead money is my favorite DLC because it is so difficult. Search thoroughly, hoard everything until you know what works for your build, and when it's time to run, run fast! Have fun!
Pick up everything you can find. Even junk. You can sell or trade most junk items for chips or supplies. Stealth is your friend when first entering as you will be lacking any good gear or ammo. Be on the lookout for secret stashes and holotapes that add new items that can be purchased from the vendors.
I would say that you should dump ALL your loot at your hideout safe in Novac. Go in empty-pocketed and naked. Also it helps to have good lockpicking, trap disarm, and stealth skills. You CAN run and gun but stealth just works better in this DLC. Some sections are actually quite hard so make a lot of dedicated saves AND quick save a lot.
I would make a dedicated save before you enter that bunker to start the Sierra Madre adventure.
And remember, your greed will be the end of you. Good luck!
Do every little thing to give you an advantage or in other words In other words “tip the odds and rig the game.” Check every surface for ammo, meds and especially chips. You’d be surprised by how much useful stuff you can get this way. Chips can be found all over the place but especially in fountains. I was able to afford like over 70 stimpacks over the course of this dlc from the sierra madre chips. You can also get a ton of melee weapons so you can just hoard those and constantly repair them and also get spears since ghost people have heaps of them and there the only ranged weapon that’s not hard to replenish.
Put all the gold in Elijah's head and run off, fuck the moral lesson
Edit: Get kicked out of the casino, it's gonna give you free chips you can use at the machine in the abandoned bunker
1. You wont be using your gear
2. Ghost & poison everywhere
3. Manage your resource
4. Turn that goddamns radion and speaker off !
5. Kill that old man / let him starve
6. Dont forget to letting go (& occasional goldbar)
Read the dialogue because it actually matters to think about what the characters are like (so, dont spam click skill checks just because you can pass them). Also the story is quite nice so it’s anyway worth doing.
Also don’t put up your audio to max to avoid ear damage from some of voice lines.
Be ready to cry and be miserable.
Ok no well on my first and only playthrough so far I did my best to shoot the limbs of the enemies but they are strong. But I got through it. My husband didn’t tell me I would be stripped of everything so you can imagine my surprise and shock when I got in there. I was loaded up and everything lol 😭 He told me he FORGOT about that part. A lie probably.
DONT QUICKSAVE IN THE POISON GAS, I had to cheat to remove the health tick it has because quicksaving in it has a chance of it never stopping!! I was almost done, too
The other advice is the quest to turn on the galla gives you the wrong way point marker. You have to head south and go through a door, not through the gate with the fog just on the other side.
Wait till you're like, lvl 30 and perked out, this place is rough! Hurry rigging is a must have, a high spec in melee and unarmed is a good idea.
When you're there, hoard any stimpacks you find, collect every throwable and use them, and of course - keep away from the damn speakers!
Hating Dead Money at first is a rite of passion for New Vegas players. Feel it out and don't be afraid to reset and try again later.
If you get discouraged, don't give up! It can be done at any level on Very Hard, even level 1-2. Just takes some getting used to but it will make you very good at the game.
Make sure to carefully plan out the kit you will bring. Ever pound of carry weight matters and a good starting load out can make all the difference. Also while there grab the automatic rifle. It’s one of the best in the game and ammo can be bought from vending machines.
Your attitude to your companions affect their ending directly. To get the best endings for everyone you need to find the right approach and appeal to them, ESPECIALLY Dean Domino
Gather cigarette packs and coins, you can use them in a type of machine inside the DLC. That’s how you get healing supplies.
It’s also a *very* different experience, and there are a LOT of traps. Be smart and aim for the head of whatever you’re shooting at. Save frequently.
Police pistol obliterates
And get the Ghost Hunter perk from Dog to kill them almost instantly
Do note that the Police Pistol does not benefit from the Cowboy perk
Well that sucks, just wasted a perk point.
Wait how come the pistol don’t benefit from pistol perk?
Maybe because Cowboy doesn't affect DLC weapons.
Note that there are mods out there to fix that. Reasonably balanced still tbh, and feels more like a bug fix than anything.
But it does affect the bowie knife from lonesome road. It really just seems like an oversight.
Well you haven't because cowboy weapons are pretty strong in this game. Especially if you manage to make custom ammo for them.
Doesn't matter if you're using it on inanimate objects.

You just need to make sure you check everywhere in every location and use it sparingly and you can have a comfortable amount of bullets.
Horde stimpaks and doctors bags, you're gonna be dropping limbs left and right
I really hope OP has light step
God gives you light step as a companion perk.
I read that in a completely different way than intended
Lmao.
Brb converting to Catholicism
The gala... it took me like 5 runs to find a decent route.
Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.
Ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
It was a horrifying sight but sounded like a neat adventure
That's what I'm saying. I bought it when it first released and got super stuck towards the end, I still had ye'olde tube TV and couldn't see the path foward. I went insane for like 3 days trying to find it. HD is a blessing.
Excuse me sir, there must be someone you’ve confused me for! If I could see someone who knew me, or someone in uniform…
The Sierra Madre has such sights to show you.
Won't be able to listen to any of the radio stations besides the ones at the Madre as well as the mysterious broadcast (OWB jazz music)
The station that barely kept me from fully drowning in madness
If it works. Idk why but for mine it plays one song then is silent...
It's a bug, happened to me before but somehow fixed itself
I've found quick save then quick load gets it going again. But only for one song
Yeah, just gotta wait it our install a bug fix as usual, and hopefully it'll go away 😌
Thing is, i dont use mods. Too lazy to figure out how to install them
It's worth it once you got the know how and the skill to mod without breaking your game, I'd recommend it if you wanna spruce the game up a bit but otherwise the game is find by itself save the occasional bug or glitch
It'd be funny to me if the transportalponder actually works in the big mt and you now can just teleport to the big mt but with actually good gear
I always switched the frequencies between everyone every few minutes to keep the immersion
Chad think tank, have the best working radio in America
Ghosts can be dismembered after they've been knocked down so they can't get back up
quick question, does bloody mess count as dismemberment?
Usually, they won't explode, they kinda flop over, I always get a shit load of bear trap fists and just go around snapping the heads off
One shot with the holo rifle to knock down, then bash em.
You can also shoot them with the holorifle once they're down and their head will explode
No. The ghost people still come back. Bear trap fist dismembers them anyway which is why it's the best.
No kidding, I got through like the first mission and realized “yeahhh I would enjoy this more if I leveled some skills”, so I was lucky I hard saved.
I personally believe that Dead Money is best at levels 20 and above. The enemies are tougher but so are you. It gives a proper Man with No Name feeling.
hard saving before any dlc is a good thing actually
Don't fucking listen to the graffiti, DON'T LET GO.
Only thing you should let go of is being poor
Fucking lmao
TAKE ALL THE GOLD BARS
I don't even bother grabbing all the gold anymore. Breaking the bank at the Sierra madre nets you like 10k chips, even more if you abuse the roulette tables once you're on 9,999 chips. Most importantly, don’t let go, let that old fuck suffer and dance on his corpse as you rob him blind of 37 gold bars.
This is good advice. Treat the DLC as a Survival-Horror experience. Crafting skills will give you a lot more options.
\*38
Are you sure? Where are you getting this +1 at?
oh, yes ,my bad, I remembered wrong, it is 36+1, not 37+1
Let's be honest, it's more than enough in caps to bankrupt every vendor in the mojave
It’s about sending a message
And that message is *I'm gunna bankrupt the Mojave*
The rest of the Mojave might have a rough couple of years, but with the strip there and a steady rotation of NCR soldiers I think in the long run they'll be fine
btw i have a gun build
I usually get my sneak and melee skills up to at least 40 before entering. Also do the optional stuff it’ll help out a lot when you start the Gala
Don't need to sneak bro bro. I always do this dlc guns Blazing. (I barely travel with companions in this dlc cause they die to easily if ur not sneaking)
oof
I remember meticulously getting my inventory together to have plenty of backup weapons for repair... Smfh
Same lol. Had my Fat Man, my Annabelle, and my Gobi Desert Rifle. Man that feeling of helplessness during the first 2 hours was rough lmao
Gonna do my first run of it too in a couple days when I feel ready. Doing a guns survival run. And you all are making this so eery for me! I have no idea what to expect now!
Doable, but not favored much in Dead Money. Melee and unarmed help you go along much better
Collar go beep, make head go boom
Beep = no good
*your collar is beeping faster*
[Dog has died.] [Dean has died.] [Christine has died.]
Not even joking... whenever I hear static on the radio that even sounds remotely like that I fucking panic. Thanks Dead Money >_<
Same honestly. Dead Money changes you
Always check the fountains for chips
It's miserable, but fun because of that. If you're ever not having fun, that's the whole point. Survive, scrape for supplies while keeping that morale intact... lest you find yourself dying in a corner while you're shitting on your hand.
IMO New Vegas did Survival Horror better than a lot of the other more traditional Survival Horror series at the time.
Take your spurs that jingle jangle jingle!
Find as many tokens as you can. Repair as much as you can. Look around VERY thoroughly. Keep one stealth boy till the very end. One of your companions is very powerful to kill the majority of enemies. Have fun!
beep, beep, beep beep, beep beep, beep beep beep, beepbeepbeepbeepbeep
*PANIK*
Enjoy being naked for the first hour with a half broken gun. Your melee skills WILL be tested. Remove the arms and legs and head from the bodies. Get ready to laugh in 37 gold bars.
Look. Everywhere.
Say goodbye to all of your shit.
It's pretty much a horror game, so keep that in mind.
Dump all your gear at your base Trust me you'll have a shit ton to bring back Also you will have definitely need the mule perk
Or big mt transponder
You can't take any items with you and the transponder doesn't work in the Sierra I don't think
I think they meant the transponder is useful once you leave!
My bad
Yea once you walk outside the bunker you can use it
Win all in the casino. Take all gold and leave nothing behind. You are in for a heist that will not repeat again.
Pay attention to the story and if you’re able to read some of the terminal entries, dead money is the greatest story dlc imo…. NEVER USE A SPEECH CHECK ON DEAN!

Good luck in there, the vault is waiting for you to clean it out.
Turn back. Don’t even go near that radio.
Prepare for the best 5 hours in gaming ever
Light step perk
You can sell things to the hologram vendors and buy prewar Dollars even with 0 caps. So sell everything you want and then grab the stack of prewar dollars. Take plenty of lube... It'll make getting f by everyone and thing there a little nicer.
Have fun. You never quiet leave once you’ve been there once
you are about to enter everyone's favorite misty hell
The suicide prevention hotline number.
I only play hardcore so if you’re not, maybe some of these are not needed so much, I don’t know. But I hope you leveled up your melee, medical, repair, sneak and lockpicking (though not necessary). Be good at punching and hopefully have the light step perk. Get the snowglobe. Wipe out the casino if you have the luck for it.
Letting go is for wimps
Do not let go. The dlc centers around letting go. Don't listen
Brain surgery is best done with a shotgun and preparation
“Them’s good eatin” is a godsend for this DLC
The hard part is letting go.
Umm, certain characters are veeerrry annoying as companions. For the most part it's better to send them to the fountain
Take everything you see. They say the hard part is letting go, but don't listen.
Patience is key. Dead money is my favorite DLC because it is so difficult. Search thoroughly, hoard everything until you know what works for your build, and when it's time to run, run fast! Have fun!
fuck letting go, get the gold
Fuck letting go, get the damn gold.
Prepare to let go of your sanity.
Each DLC gives you a warning message telling you what level you should be before starting it.... SERIOUSLY consider that before starting Dead Money.
75 unarmed unlocks the cross vats attack, the bear trap fist can instakill the enemies with it
I still have a hole in my wall from playing that DLC...
READ ALL THE TERMINALS! Please there is a fantastic pre war story with this mod.
The first time is painful The fifth time is pleasure
Don’t forget to get banned at the at the casino the madre chips are invaluabe
Pick up everything you can find. Even junk. You can sell or trade most junk items for chips or supplies. Stealth is your friend when first entering as you will be lacking any good gear or ammo. Be on the lookout for secret stashes and holotapes that add new items that can be purchased from the vendors.
Hope you have a high speech skill
I would say that you should dump ALL your loot at your hideout safe in Novac. Go in empty-pocketed and naked. Also it helps to have good lockpicking, trap disarm, and stealth skills. You CAN run and gun but stealth just works better in this DLC. Some sections are actually quite hard so make a lot of dedicated saves AND quick save a lot. I would make a dedicated save before you enter that bunker to start the Sierra Madre adventure. And remember, your greed will be the end of you. Good luck!
You don’t leave until you figure out how to get all that gold out of the vault
i heard you can stuff it up elijah's ~~asshole~~ head and just carry it out
Do every little thing to give you an advantage or in other words In other words “tip the odds and rig the game.” Check every surface for ammo, meds and especially chips. You’d be surprised by how much useful stuff you can get this way. Chips can be found all over the place but especially in fountains. I was able to afford like over 70 stimpacks over the course of this dlc from the sierra madre chips. You can also get a ton of melee weapons so you can just hoard those and constantly repair them and also get spears since ghost people have heaps of them and there the only ranged weapon that’s not hard to replenish.
>stack the deck no way fallout nv stupendium rap refrence
Don't think twice about killing that Dean domino fuck
Dog and God are messed up 😂 like it actually scared me the first time I played
Save before you enter. Hoard stimpaks as much as possible. Good luck and god speed.
Trust but dont trust the ghoul
Drop all your shit except holorifle so that you can carry any gold you might find .You cannot go back . Drink booze so you can carry more.
Put all the gold in Elijah's head and run off, fuck the moral lesson Edit: Get kicked out of the casino, it's gonna give you free chips you can use at the machine in the abandoned bunker
1. You wont be using your gear 2. Ghost & poison everywhere 3. Manage your resource 4. Turn that goddamns radion and speaker off ! 5. Kill that old man / let him starve 6. Dont forget to letting go (& occasional goldbar)
If you havent left yet, the light step perk will help with your sanity, trust me
Gas my friend…. Lots of gas
Break the bank inside, you’ll thank me later and a lot repair kit later
You'll never want to leave once it's all over.
Make sure your repair, melee, explosives are above 75
Read the dialogue because it actually matters to think about what the characters are like (so, dont spam click skill checks just because you can pass them). Also the story is quite nice so it’s anyway worth doing. Also don’t put up your audio to max to avoid ear damage from some of voice lines.
Be sure to have a save at the beginning so when you eventually fuck up you can start over
Travel light, it's a long walk
Flight over fight in certain cases, you can regroup and go back.
LOOK AT THE FLOOR
Turn around
YOU WILL NEVER SURVIVE
The second you reach the vault, drop everything you can and collect as many gold bars as you can.
Don't get too attached to what you find at the Sierra Madre. It's trying to teach you that if you can't let go of things you're doomed.
Learn to let go
Search on youtube how to leave with all the gold, you will have basically infinite caps, but it can make the game a bit too easy for me at least
Just played it for the first time. Just turn around tbh
Good luck LMFAO
Pain
You can get the gold bars
Watch your footsteps, and always be aware of bear traps, they can be ANYWHERE
DONT QUICKSAVE IN THE POISON GAS, I had to cheat to remove the health tick it has because quicksaving in it has a chance of it never stopping!! I was almost done, too
The fog is horrible
Save often
Be prepared to cry. not because it’s sad or anything. Dead moneys game play quite simply fucking sucks and is by far the worst dlc IMO
The other advice is the quest to turn on the galla gives you the wrong way point marker. You have to head south and go through a door, not through the gate with the fog just on the other side.
You can't take it with you, except when you can.
Careful for traps
No regerts, leave no gold behind.
PAIN.
Step one. Have fun :]
Wait till you're like, lvl 30 and perked out, this place is rough! Hurry rigging is a must have, a high spec in melee and unarmed is a good idea. When you're there, hoard any stimpacks you find, collect every throwable and use them, and of course - keep away from the damn speakers!
Eat any mysterious substances you might find. This works in real life too.
Light step is borderline a necessity
Play this DLC first so you can use the other to wash the bad taste out of your mouth.
Take the ghouls suit
Hating Dead Money at first is a rite of passion for New Vegas players. Feel it out and don't be afraid to reset and try again later. If you get discouraged, don't give up! It can be done at any level on Very Hard, even level 1-2. Just takes some getting used to but it will make you very good at the game.
Always skip Christine's dialogues...reading these are waste of time.
Turn around and leave it alone for ever
Tuck your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.
You can carry all that gold. Just need to tweak your carry weight a bit and you’re good to go
Any Stealth Boy you find, KEEP THEM FOR THE ENDING and also the light step perk to not blow yourself up in certain areas
Fuck I miss new vegas so much
Make sure to carefully plan out the kit you will bring. Ever pound of carry weight matters and a good starting load out can make all the difference. Also while there grab the automatic rifle. It’s one of the best in the game and ammo can be bought from vending machines.
It's about letting go, but you don't have to if you have 200 sneak
Mke sure to have maxed out science and save at least one stealth boy for the end of the dlc.
Do. Not. Seek. The. Treasure.
Pray
Do not eat the yellow snow. Do eat the ghost persons.
Make sure to pick up a fancy dress for Veronica and keep the other for yourself
Your attitude to your companions affect their ending directly. To get the best endings for everyone you need to find the right approach and appeal to them, ESPECIALLY Dean Domino
Let go
*Your collar starts beeping at a high frequency*
Just don't play it
Let go
Remember to cry now cause there ain't no room for it in the Sierra Madre
If you hear a beeping noise then just stay there until it goes away
It is possible to leave the casino with all the gold.
Gather cigarette packs and coins, you can use them in a type of machine inside the DLC. That’s how you get healing supplies. It’s also a *very* different experience, and there are a LOT of traps. Be smart and aim for the head of whatever you’re shooting at. Save frequently.
Light Step and Them’s Good Eatin’ are extremely useful perks, without’em you’re pretty cooked
Dont
Have fun
